Reviews for At the Beach
I am glad that Hermione figured out a way to be with Severus. However, I hope she won't stay married to Ron forever. She'll eventually feel the need to separate herself from Ron and be closer to Severus. I wonder why George wants Hermione to be his partner instead of just an employee. Perhaps because she's a family member and he thinks the wine is so grand. Hopefully Severus will allow himself to show happiness when Hermione lets him know she plans to visit. I would not want him to feel like he should keep the relationship severed.
Response from chivalric (Author of At the Beach)
She's just writing a letter - she doesn't know yet how he'll react. George, I think, wants her as his partner because a) he likes her a lot, b) because it will drive Ronnykins crazy, and c) because a partner would do more for the blooming of the business than an employee. Thank you so much for your review!
Good girl, that Hermione! I'm glad she has a plan, at least for the short term. But how is Carlos going to respond to her demand for more wine? I'm still not sure I understand about divorce and child custody, though; even though Hermione is a witch, she couldn't retain custody? Too bad Ron couldn't just decide to skip out!
Response from chivalric (Author of At the Beach)
She's a witch, but her parents are Muggles, whereas the Weasleys are magical since centuries. Easy law - the one with the magical background gets the kids. And even if Ron would decide to skip out - Molly wouldn't let him. I know Molly is a bit OOC here - less nice, more on the nasty mother-in-law side, but I truly believe she never liked Hermione that much. Not enough to give her custody over her grandchildren, anyway. More wine won't be a problem, believe me. There will be other trouble to solve, though ;-)Thank you so much for your review!
I'm so glad to see that Hermione is intent on making changes in her life rather than succumbing to the quick fix of absconding with Carlos.I particularly liked this bit:"A different haircut and colour shouldn't have changed her that much. And it wasn't because she had children, either. It was because she wasn't herself anymore."Beautiful.
Response from chivalric (Author of At the Beach)
Thank you so much! I think Hermione couldn't do this, just run away from her real life. That would have been far too much OOC. She needs to find another solution. Maybe not a perfect one, maybe an immoral one, but one that fits for her needs. Hope you can live with the decision she made!PajamaPants's response: BTW, I'm very, very curious to see how you write Ron and Molly's characters....
I am so glad she is taking the proverbial bull by the horns. It just didn't fit that Hermione would stay in this situation for very long. I can, however, understand her getting into it in the first place. Having small children does tend to isolate a young mother and worse still when her family is so far away and his family is her only source of familial input.Oh and YAY George! I always liked him!
Response from chivalric (Author of At the Beach)
You summoned the problem, dear: it's understandable how she got into this mess, but it was more than time to get out of it. I like George, too. Having offered Hermione partnership will be good for the business :-)Thank you so much for your review!
The way you wrote of Hermione's heartache was all too real. I could feel her sadness and sense of loss. What to do? Does she just throw caution to the winds, does she give up the love of her life? She wisely takes another fortnight to visit her parents and makes a few decisions that will allow her to take back control of some parts of her life she had given up on.She is wise to take her time so that she won't have to battle Molly... and she has come up with a great plan to be able to keep in touch with Severus. Being George's partner in Weasleys' Wizarding Wheezes can't give Molly too much reason to grumble... and if she does grumble, George can help diffuse her wrath.I thought this chapter was one of the best yet! It showed that Hermione still has a fire in her belly, and that she can make up her mind to do what is best for her and still "handle" Molly very nicely.Bravo!Beth
Response from chivalric (Author of At the Beach)
Hi, Beth,I sent her to her parents because I needed a bit of time to think ;-) Thanks so much for liking this chapter although there is not a single black hair in sight. It is one out of two chapters not told from Carlos's POV, and I wondered if it would fit into the story. But I wanted to show what happened to her after she'd left the island, I wanted to show the change in her and that she finally becomes herself again. Thanks so much for your review!
Good for her! I love how you have her breaking out of the shell she put herself in.
Response from chivalric (Author of At the Beach)
It was about time she woke up ;-) I can promise that she won't go back into her shell, too. Thanks so much for your review!
Decisions indeed. What a change. And travelling can offer time with Carlos maybe... !and then she maybe can fight her husband and get custody of the children.
Response from chivalric (Author of At the Beach)
It was more than time she woke up. I painted her OOC, sad and weak, in a way. But a clever, strong Hermione is the Hermione I like and know best. Time with Carlos would be nice, I agree. Next chapter will at least let you know what sort of letter she writes ;-) Thanks so much for your review, and thanks for pointing out the missing 'h'. I corrected it immediately, of course!
OH! They WILL find a way to be together, won't they?! I love this story, it is so well written, I can feel it all. Just wonderful!
Response from chivalric (Author of At the Beach)
Well, I can't tell you, can I?
OH! They WILL find a way to be together, won't they?! I love this story, it is so well written, I can feel it all. Just wonderful!
Response from chivalric (Author of At the Beach)
And thanks so much for your review, of course!
Ah now I see a light in the tunnel. While I was prepared for them to be separated for the next several years waiting for the kids to go off to Hogwarts, I knew I would not be happy about it. This is so much better. Thanks for sharing and I look forward to their next get together. Won't Carlos be surprised to get her letter -- of course I am guessing that's who she is writing to.
Response from chivalric (Author of At the Beach)
I think this wouldn't work, them being separated for years. Hugo is three, that means another eight years until he goes to Hogwarts. Eight years is far too long to love someone you never see. During such a long time, she would live another live, would maybe even fall into love with someone else whilst he found himself another tourist to quench his pain and his need for company. The letter is for him. Of course it is :-)
Oooh, clever!!! This way she can see Carlos / Severus at regular intervals until the kids go to Hogwarts!! Then she can dump Ron permanently....!!! Brilliant read!
Response from chivalric (Author of At the Beach)
You are clever, my dear. And I won't say another word apart from "Thanks so much for your review!"
Excellent! I can hardly wait to see what she writes - and to whom!
Response from chivalric (Author of At the Beach)
I promise to post the next chapter before Christmas. Both questions will be answered there. Thanks so much for your review!
I love that Hermione has gotten a bit of her old spark back. I will love it even more if she gets her ass back to Carlos as soon as possible. Lovely chapter, great job.
Response from chivalric (Author of At the Beach)
I feel a slight pressure concerning the next chapter :-) I promise to post it before Christmas so your questions/hopes might be answered. Thanks so much for your review!
hehehe. i'm so happy that she listened to her wake up call and is finding a solution to her problem. i also really enjoyed the scene where she was discussing "carlos" with her mom who declared him not marriage material. (shades of my rl carlos reared up in that discussion.) i did miss him in this chapter, but who knows? maybe in the next he'll get an interesting letter. :D
Response from chivalric (Author of At the Beach)
Belive me, I was slightly uneasy about this chapter, with Carlos missing in it completely. But I wanted to show what happens to her once she'd left the island. Sending her to her mum gave me time to think what to do about the dilemma, btw ;-) Thanks so much for your review!
Response from kittylefish (Reviewer)
it's a good chapter, though, even without him. that's smart - you gave her time to think, which gave you time to think. :)
Really great plot!! I love it! Can't wait to see what's coming up next!gab
Response from chivalric (Author of At the Beach)
Thanks, dear. Took me a while to find a solution, and I am glad George gave me a hand *lol*Next chapter will be in queue before Christmas, promise!
Touching scenes of grief. I'm a homemaker and love it---but I have things in my life that keep me, me--even without working outside the home. Nice to see her make steps to be more of herself. Love the inclusion of Fred. Looking forward to where this is going.
Response from chivalric (Author of At the Beach)
The story might take an unexpected turn - at least, so my beta told me ;-)I do work outside home, and I know it doesn't help keeping you sane or yourself. It's that you do sth you like to do. In Hermione's case, it is using her brain and making her own decisions. Thanks so much for your review!
Crafty young lady. At least she's come up with a decent plan. I can't wait to see the reactions of Ron and Molly.
Response from chivalric (Author of At the Beach)
Hmmm, I might have to add a sentence or two to the next chapter ;-) Thanks so much for your review!
Talking about a revolution, eh? I am so looking forward to the next chapters!
Response from chivalric (Author of At the Beach)
Hi there! Next chapter will go into queue before Christmas, and I can guarantee a few unexpected turns *g* Thanks so much for your review!
George rocks my world! Good bits of her missing 'Carlos', really gut wrenching. I also like the point that money can't buy happiness. Not that her other option isn't fabulously wealthy also, but still. Nice illustration.
Response from chivalric (Author of At the Beach)
I like George, and he helped me out with an idea to keep Hermione busy. In my stories, she often works as a bookbinder or a teacher. This was sth new, and I was happy George turned up. Thanks so much for your review!
Whoa! A very good decision. Thanks for updating this wonderful story.
Response from chivalric (Author of At the Beach)
Always my peasure. The stories nag me until I am done with them. And until I am done, my beta nags me to finish it ;-) Thanks so much for your review!
I'm loving this story, especially now that a happy ending is a possibility.
Response from chivalric (Author of At the Beach)
Oh, dear, and that without even knowing that they will ever see each other again! After all, she could write to Ron, couldn't she?*grins evilly* Thanks so much for your review!
Oh, I knew I liked George for a reason. I don't suppose Molly will die anytime soon? Great chapter.
Response from chivalric (Author of At the Beach)
I'm affraid not. Although... she could fall off a ladder... Thanks so much for your review!
Hermione is back.I can't wait to see her bloom again, and I love your use of George. And hopefully, we'll be seeing Severus soon!
Response from chivalric (Author of At the Beach)
This is one out of two chapters not told from Carlos's POV. The other one is the epilogue, which is, obviously, another few chapters away. So maybe some black hair in the next chapter. Thanks for liking George as much as I do. And many thanks for reading and reviewing!
