Reviews for At the Beach
Uh-oh! How will they deal with this new wrinkle?I do think her mum is right about telling George. This is truly lovely and quite beautifuly written. I can see these two characters so clearly, who were once Hermione and Severus but who have become Tessa and Carlos and who have earned their right to happiness. If she's right about losing custody of Rose and Hugo, though, I worry for them even after the children start at Hogwarts. And now I worry about this new child, created from deep love from threatened by convention.Looking forward to the next chapter, even though you've got me worried!
Response from chivalric (Author of At the Beach)
Currently, she thinks about aborting the child, precisely because of the points you mentioned. She can't see how to see it through, as a pregnancy would prove she cheated, and then she would lose custody. Luckily, Carlos has a cool and calculating brain in his head even ten years after the war.Don't worry.I'll update soon. And thanks for reviewing!
Oh. (I wanted to say something else) At least we know there is no chance it is Ron's. Please tell me Ron has met someone and wants a divorce yesterday.
Response from chivalric (Author of At the Beach)
*lol* Ron meets someone on a daily basis, and he uses every opportunity to take what is offered. No way he'll ever want a divorce - it would ruin the picture of him being the good guy.I'll update soon. And thanks for reviewing!
Shit! That's too soon, and Ron isn't so stupid as to fall for it being his!
Response from chivalric (Author of At the Beach)
My dear, it shouldn't have happened at all!I'll update soon. And thanks for reviewing!
Now that's a problem. Hermione's pregnancy will definitely throw a monkey wrench into the plans. I'm looking forward to seeing how you will deal with this. The muse can be such a cruel, vindictive thing...
Response from chivalric (Author of At the Beach)
My muse is currently quite reliable, luckily, so I'll finish this story quickly and post the next chapter as soon as I can. I'll update soon. And thanks for reviewing!
I was sooo excited to see this update! I absolutely love your story! Please update soon:)
Response from chivalric (Author of At the Beach)
I'm just reworking the last few remaining chapters (adding a bit of background) and promise to post the next chapter asap. Thanks for reviewing!
OH! Oh, I was sooo hoping for that, and wishing, and of course, I couldn't ask, that wouldn't be polite, but oh! What a monkey wrench!! Now what is going to happen? I am glad it happened, though, so very glad. While they may have been content with their arrangement, I was getting dissatisfied, lol. I want more :DBut the way of love is never easy, and I see rocky paths ahead......Thanks for a great chapter!!!
Response from chivalric (Author of At the Beach)
Hi, there! Thanks for reading and reviewing, dear. There is only so much you can write about happy times before they become boring, so I totally understand about your dissatisfaction. You'll get (a bit) more, rocky paths included.
Response from nastygrl (Reviewer)
ROTF! I wasn't unhappy because they were happy, I just want them to be MORE happy! And the only way that can happen is if they are together ALL the time. And that only way for THAT to happen is for something to move them along :)Yeah for rocky roads leading to true love!
Oh Dear, the baby is going look like Severus YAY!
I really wished he'd let Hermione call him Severus, and Severus call Tessa 'Hermione'.I wonder what Severus is going to say, when she tells him! Look forward to more.

Response from chivalric (Author of At the Beach)
Now how do you know she'll keep it?More soon. And I can tell you that he won't say much ;-)
I'm glad it didn't take too long for them to get together again, albeit for such a short time. And a bonus that shecan be of practical help to Carlos and George at the same time. I hope you're going to let us have a pleasantinterlude before taking Hermione back to reality.
Response from chivalric (Author of At the Beach)
Pleasant interlude is in queue ;-)Thanks for reading and reviewing!
The more you write, the more I want to read. I loved all of this chapter. I liked how it really went into his head. And how much he was distracted was funny.
Response from chivalric (Author of At the Beach)
Now that is definitely something I love to hear *beams*More to come in around two weeks. My beta has to give her ok for the next chapter, and currently, she is enjoying her well-deserved holiday. Thanks for reviewing, and I hope you have a great new year.
ahhhhhh amore'. . . . . . you gotta love it! IF Ron can be toilet paper so can she!!
Response from chivalric (Author of At the Beach)
*LOL* That's certainly the first time someone called Hermione toilet paper, at least for one of my stories. Love it - but she isn't of course. Cheating is part of the human nature (so thinks Ron, and enjoyse the occasional one-night stand). True love, though, is too big to be ignored. It would be a crime to keep Tessa and Carlos separated!Hugs, thanks for the review, and a happy new year!
~sob!~ This is soooo romantic!
Response from chivalric (Author of At the Beach)
I daresay it will stay quite romantic, after the trouble coming along in the next chapter :-)Thanks for reviewing!
Excellent! I love that they are going to have some time, and it's kind of funny that no one is the wiser! Also, him as the ninety-year-old Muggle is too funny!
Response from chivalric (Author of At the Beach)
Had she told Molly she's bargaining with a man at the height of his years, she would have tied Hermione to the house, I guess ;-)Thanks for reviewing!
Excellent! I can't wait for the next chapter!
Response from chivalric (Author of At the Beach)
Ah, well, that might take a while - let's say around two weeks, I guess. My beta is on vacation, and I won't post anything she didn't have a look at. Thanks for reviewing!
*deep happy sigh* Sometimes at night, he sat on his veranda, looking at the stars and imagining she would do the same. Pathetic, really, but he couldn't help it. *sigh again* what a beautiful line. You know, I ached for him all along the chapter but I also hoped that it will end happily. I just fear for their sake. Hermione's clever enough to have found a way to be with him. What will happen at the end of the week? They'll have to go their separate ways again until next time. Would that not be more heart breaking. I pity poor Maria and Pedro who will have to live and suffer Severus after she'd left.
Response from chivalric (Author of At the Beach)
Maria and Pedro know him well and they know how to handle him - don't fear for them. The next chapter will contain some talking and planning, and yes, after that week, they will separate again. Only this time, they both know it is only for a short amount of time, until she manages to come back. No broken hearts in this story. But nevertheless, trouble is on the way. Big, unexpected trouble. Hope that makes waiting a bit easier...*g*Thanks for reviewing, dear!
I have to admit that I was really looking forward to reading this chapter after her conversation with George. It's like "what could I do? My brother-in-law was under a lot of pressure to come up with this wine and if I can be of any help, you know I will." Such a devoted sister-in-law to go out of her way to increase the family fortune and influence. I don't think the "90 year old" is going to last long once the children tell Daddy all about their friend Carlos. You know, one thing I like about this story is your use of the word "winegrower." I think that grapes are grown and wine is made, but when you think about growing the wine, it almost makes it sound more magically special. Almost as if Carlos is able to bring from the earth something no one else can. Thanks for choosing that word and the imagery it evokes.
Response from chivalric (Author of At the Beach)
The next chapter will contain some talking ans some planning, and I vaguely remember that I dropped a sentence or two concerning the children talking about Carlos...The word winegrower I found in Leo, and as none of the admins nor my wonderful betas objected, I kept it. I disliked winemaker, but didn't give it a second thought. I like your description very much. His wine is magical, and no, no one else can create it. Thank you so much for pointing it out to me!
I'm glad they are getting to see each other again, and I know Hermione has issues with being able to keep the children and all, but it is hard to see such a blatant display of an affair. I don't mean this as an insult to your story. I acutally am really enjoying it. It's jsut hard to read an 'affair' as opposed to a couple singles getting together, if that makes sense. I do hope they sort it all out and it doesn't have to remain... er... tawdry. LOL
Response from chivalric (Author of At the Beach)
Had to look up a word or two - you know I am not a native speaker? But I know what bothers you - that she is married and in love with another man at the same time. Continuous adultery is indeed something I haven't written about before, but I wanted this story canon compliant as much as possible. So you say the situation is tawdry, meaning she behaves like a hussy? Hmm, I assume the next chapters won't be to your liking, then. If you decide to continue reading, I do hope I won't offend you. I would be glad for feedback, especially after the next chapter, as then you'll know more or less how the story will end.Have a lovely new year, and thanks for reviewing!
Response from Mazzy (Reviewer)
"tawdry" was just a random word I chose. I meant no offense by it. As I said, I am enjoying the fic but 'affairs' are hard to read about. They just are - a touchy subject matter and all that. Any non-mainstream subject has some harder parts to get through I think (even the beginnings of teacher/student stuff because it's hard to get past that at times).Of course I will keep reading. I like the fic. Adultry is just something that has always really bothered me. I am fortunate to have not been cheated on (that I know of anyway) and I've never cheated, but I know a few who have and no matter how justified it may be, I always remember something I heard a male comedian say once regarding women finding a new man: "Woman are like monkeys. They can't let go of one branch until they have a firm grasp on the next." That phrase has always wrankled, and yet, when I've seen women have affairs, it always holds true - they don't like their situation but they won't leave until they already have another man in toe. It's a... distrubing thing to notice and find holding true of my gender. But as for the fic, I'll keep reading and reviewing and I hope I do not offend you if I speak my mind because it is not my intention and I do enjoy your work.
Response from chivalric (Author of At the Beach)
*snigger* Out of all the reviews I received in a bit more than a year since I joined the fandom, only one nagged me, because it commented quite nastily on my writing style. Yours definitely didn't offend me, but it made me think, which is always a very good thing.Your explanation concerning cheating women, though, made my jaws sagg open, because in my experience, it is the other way round. A woman who has enough of a partner leaves her man and is glad to be alone for a while, sorting out her life, her thoughts, her past. She tries to get over things and then, if she's up to it, she finds herself a new love. When I was dating via internet, I had not one man (in dozens and dozens) who wasn't in a partnership ("I'm about to leave her, promise, but...")! And that although I had clearly said I was not looking for an affair, but a stable relationship. So the men are the monkeys, IMO :-) Women dare to let go and jump into an uncertain future, as they are braver than men. Sometimes *g*As for Hermione, she would leave if she could. If I weren't so fixed on keeping this canon compliant, she would. But here, she can't, and she decides that the love she feels for Carlos is too big to be burried without giving it at least a try. I know adultery is a bigger issue in America than it is in Europe (on German sites, you don't even have a waring for adultery). I will stop babbling now, though. Looking forward to hear from you after the next chapter is up, which will be in roughly two or three weeks.
* the swelling music of a thousand strings fills the air*
*fade to deep midnight blue*
I have voted this fic "The Fanfic I Would Most Like to See on the Silver Screen, 2008."
(and I don't even LIKE romance stories!)
HAPPY NEW YEAR CARLOS AND TESSA.
Response from chivalric (Author of At the Beach)
I promise, they will have a lovely new year, despite the problems coming along their way. Now what sort of stories do you like? *is curious*Hugs, happy new year, and thanks for reviewing!
awww...that was so sweet! loved the way you depicted his inner turmoil. great stuff! thanks so much
Response from chivalric (Author of At the Beach)
More to come in about two weeks, after my beta is back from holiday. Thanks for reviewing and have a lovely new year!
All that white sand and blue sky. And Sev. Sounds divine. :)
Response from chivalric (Author of At the Beach)
Hmmmm...*stares out of the window, dreaming*Thanks for reviewing, and have a happy new year!
My heart was in my throat! Oh, please figure out a way to get these two people together! Please!!!!! oh like KILLING off Ron, just for fun
Response from chivalric (Author of At the Beach)
*snigger* He could fall off his broom, or something like that. But no, Ron won't die. I like him, at least when he's not married to Hermione, and besides, this is canon compliant (as much as possible, the timeline doesn't fit completely)Thanks for reviewing, and I promise, I will come up with something. And if it's just trouble *grins evilly*Happy New Year!
hot chapter
Response from chivalric (Author of At the Beach)
:-)The next one will be a little bit hotter. Thanks for reviewing!
I wonder what kind of contract Hermione has in mind? That was a fairly formal letter. Are there other motivations hidden?
Response from chivalric (Author of At the Beach)
Just what she said: a regular delivery of wine for her partner George. The wine will grant her a few days of freedom every now and then. The letter was formal because in case someone would have seen it. No more motivations beside of the obvious ;-)Thanks for reviewing!
Wonderful and bittersweet -- and not a bad clinch for a ninety-year-old, LOL. I loved the way you kept amassing all the little details and memories that haunt Severus so much. You have a very intense and unusual way of presenting these two characters.
Response from chivalric (Author of At the Beach)
Re-reading the chapter made it clear that maybe, this was maybe a little too Carlos-centric... But then, I wanted to reveal his hopes and wishes, ten years after the war. Thanks for reading and reviewing!
I love this story; the end of this chapter felt heart-rending, after all his built-up anxieties, then a sort of release of emotion.
Response from chivalric (Author of At the Beach)
Thank you so much - I really try my best to stir up emotions ;-)
Carlos has lived a week of exquisite torture knowing that his Tessa was coming. One the one hand his heart is filled with joy, and on the other it is filled with fear. You wrote his reaction to her when he first saw her on the beach perfectly... a man determined to protect his heart. But when she allow all the trappings of a business woman to be carried away by the winds, he realized that the woman he loves with all his heart has come back to him."Carlos," she said when he was only a foot away, and he caught her in his arms, pressed her body against his, felt her hair, her heartbeat and her smooth cheek pressed against his. "I will need a bottle of your wine, like I said in my letter. I have one week to finish the bargain. Ron is looking after the children, and he laughed his head off when he saw me in those clothes, but it had to look real. Everyone thinks you are a ninety-year old Spanish Muggle. Sorry for that." She took a breath. "I missed you!" she added, and he felt her lips at the corner of his mouth"I missed you, too," he murmured in her hair and wasn't too surprised that his throat was tight with emotion. "Gods, you have no idea how much I missed you."This was such a beautiful, heart warming chapter!!! Thank you so much for making me so happy.Beth
Response from chivalric (Author of At the Beach)
Hmmm, I usually try not to scare away the ones who bother to read my stories ;-) Thanks so much for your friendly words, dear. I am currently reworking the last few chapters, but promise to post as soon as possible. Hugs and a happy new year!
