Interesting how much she telegraphs without meaning to. I wonder if all of us do this unknowingly, saved only by the fact that so few people are interested enough to look.

I didn't think about it like that, but you are right, of course. She radiates unhappyness simply because she is unhappy, but he sees it because he wants her. I guess, body language gives away a lot for those who care to look. Thanks for reviewing!

You weave such a lovely atmosphere. Peaceful, calming, expectant. Carlos is obviously a man who has healed in body and (nearly) healed in mind from...something very bad that happened to him in the past. I like that he is a predator by nature or design but he is a friendly gentle predator if that isn't too much of an oxymoron. Gives me the shivers. What was the name of that island again?
Response from chivalric (Author of At the Beach)
This story was outlined whilst I was sunbathing, and the relaxed atmosphere made it into the story. I am glad you like my Carlos - he is OOC in a way - and I truly like the words "friendly, gentle predator". I don't think it's an oxymoron - he likes to hunt, but he doesn't like to hurt (anymore). He had been hurt himself, and he learned his lessons. And he isn't healed completely, as I will show in one of the next chapters ;-)AND I didn't tell the name of the island simply because I couldn't. It would have meant to do some research (e.g. are there winegrowers on, lets say, Jamaika, or Teneriffa?) I didn't want that, so this island remains unnamed. Besides, if I knew the name I would travel there and try to find him *g*Oh - and thanks for reviewing!

Really enjoying this story so far; personally, I also quite like the characterizations. I look forward to the progression of both plot and characters!
Response from chivalric (Author of At the Beach)
Thank you so much - that was my main concern, that people wouldn't like the way I changed their appearances. And of course, they are both OOC in a way. But then, ten years can change a man, and a woman, too. Thanks for reviewing. The next chapter will go into queue this weekend.

If this is Hermione indeed I wonder what hapend to her that she change so much . I never imagine her to behave and look like that no matter how porly life could theat her . Does she use glamur or charm , but if she does , how her children see her? Interesting story .
Response from chivalric (Author of At the Beach)
As her name shows up under "Characters", I don't give anything away by saying yes, this is Hermione. And life happened to her, nothing more, nothing less. Not a particulary poor life, but a life different from the one she imagined to live. Ten years can easily change a young, brave girl into an unhappy, slightly insecure woman. It's a glamour, btw, where it comes to her haircut and colour. Her children see her as everyone else does - blond ;-)I will update soon. Let me know if the way this story will proceed satisfies you, as well as the explanations I will give. And thanks for reviewing!

My oh my, I wonder what has happened to poor Hermione (did you think you got me fooled?)
Response from chivalric (Author of At the Beach)
Got you fooled about what, dear? That this is Hermione?? Well, her name is shown under Characters, because I couldn't bring myself to say "Surprise Character". So yes, it's her. And actually, nothing but life happened to her. I will explain in the next chapters ;-) And thanks for reviewing!

I've read this several times over the years, so I don't know how I've failed to ever review. My list of favorite stories is extensive, and I like each one for a different reason. This one is just so stunningly beautiful. Both the story and the way it is told. It is sad, and yet so happy and hopeful too. Gosh, I should have reviewed chapter by chapter by chapter, because I can't possibly say what all I love (especially typing on my phone). I love what Severus has become on this island. And how intuitive and gentle he is with Tessa. And how careful and protective she is around him, but her kids are sold on Carlos from day one. Things move both so slowly between them, but in reality so quickly. I love Tessa's relationship with George, and that it allows her this impossible relationship. I love that Hermione sees that Ron is not a bad person, just still a boy trying to have the fun he missed out on in his youth. I love how excited Carlos is to be a dad, even his commitment to being a single father. I can't possibly do any justice to how I feel about this story. It is so simplistic while dealing with so much complication. But mostly, it is just a stunning story of love at it's finest.

Hi, there, and thank you so much for your lovely review! I am glad you like this story, and really, really happy that you read it even more than once. I wrote this story for nss and had a lot of fun doing so, but still am thrilled when I get a review *hugs*
Hm, why am I not at that beach??Promising start, looking forward to more. /M

On my last holiday, I looked out for a tall, tanned, black-haired man, I must admit. Couldn't see, him, though. But then, I'm not blond ;-)Thanks for reviewing, the next chapter is in queue.

Nice beginning. Obviously Severus, he now owns a vineyard? Hmmm and Hermione, she's rail thin and unhappy - ok. But why didn't she recognize him?
Response from chivalric (Author of At the Beach)
*chuckle* Of course I give too much away here, but consider this: ten years ago, you knew a paler than pale, long-haired, unhappy, greasy man who was old simply because he was your teacher. He dies, he's burried, and you forget about him. Then, then years later, you meet someone who might resemble him in some ways - the nose, for example - but who is tanned, short-haired, happy, and a winegrower on a foreign island. On top of it, Snape is dead - so actually, she can't recognise him.And there is a reason for her being thin and unhappy ;-)And who said we are talking about Hermione and Snape here?*looks innocently to the ceiling*Thanks a lot for reviewing, btw!

Oh, I certainly hope she takes the bait! I can't wait to see how he reacts when he finds out who she is.
Response from chivalric (Author of At the Beach)
Who who is? Her name is Tessa, dear!*g*Who am I fooling? Their names are given at the beginning of each chapter, and yes, she will take the bait. And I won't tell you if they ever recognise each other or not. Sorry, but you will have to continue reading! Thanks for reviewing!

It's very refreshing to see a Snape that has come to terms with his past and with what he's had to do. I'm looking forward to more of this.
Response from chivalric (Author of At the Beach)
Thank you so much! My wonderful beta warned me that maybe I might get unpleasant reviwes because I changed both their appearances so much, and because I made Snape happy, for a change. It seems this is not the case *sighs with reliev*Next chapter is in queue. Thanks for reviewing!

As devoted and obsessed as I am with HGSS fanfiction, sometime is can get a bit...repetitive. Dungeons and detention and crushes. It's fun, but I always want variety. I absolutely love and eat up the stories that put them elsewhere, that change that typical plot, and this story is a prime example. It's just amazing. So much better, so well written, so creative and unique; it is a breath of fresh air. Awesome, awesome job.

*beams* Thank you so much! I thought it up whilst sitting at the lake ;-) I am very glad you enjoyed it.
This is a singularly lovely romance! I have enjoyed Hermione`s growth and the return of her take charge attitude with regard to her own happiness the most. Thank you very much.

I was truely spellbound! It is a wonder story and a wonderful romance! Thank you so much for giving it a happy ending and no horrible trauma in the middle. The fear of being found out gave just the right amount of tension without making the story unpleasantly stressfull. Real life is bad enough. I read SS/HG fanfiction exclusively and no other fan fiction. I read it to get away from the real world where magic can't seem to fix squat and something bad is always real. You cheered up a sad night for me. Thank you. Breastlady
Response from chivalric (Author of At the Beach)
Glad you liked the story, and don't worry; although I tend to write cruel stories every now and ten, I always put the proper warnings up. That goes for stories which are not HG/SS, too (I prefer writing slash nowadays). Thanks for making the effort to review!
I really loved this romantic story. I am looking foreward to read the rest of your stuff.
Response from chivalric (Author of At the Beach)
lol! I hope you don't have anything else to do for the next week - I used to be quite prolific ;-)Thanks for reading and reviewing!
Beautiful story. Tons of angst and hard decisions... and best of all a happy ending! -Clare
Response from chivalric (Author of At the Beach)
I like happy endings. If I don't manage them at first try, I usually write a sequel :-)Thanks so much for reading and reviewing!
Somehow, I seem to have skipped the last couple of chapters of this story when they were first posted - what a very pleasant surprise to find this wonderful tale again, and complete! There were times I could have cried in frustration for these two, so well did you tug on my emotions, but you got them there in the end
Response from chivalric (Author of At the Beach)
Thanks for finding this fic again and reading and reviewing it, too! I'm glad you liked it; I'm glad I managed to make this believeable despite the changes in their appearance and my effort to keep this as much as canon compliant as possible.
