Variety Challenge first runner up. Hermione Granger is given a Time-Turner and instructions to use it. Only, using a Time-Turner can be a little tricky if not used correctly: a mistake made in counting or a slip of fingers can make the user jump irregularly and thus she could accidentally alter her time line. And when such an accident happens, Severus Snape uses Hermione’s Time-Turner in order to fix a horrific wrong. However, it’s his younger self that becomes the one who must ensure that history is not altered.

I love to write. A dreamer, a creator and filled with wonder, imagination and life. Sometimes I get lost in the other worlds I've read and in some I create. It's all good, I’m in good company.

Welcome back! This was well worth the wait. I liked the little peak into summer before school starts again. Sirius is such a jerk. And the worst part of it is that while he intentionally baits Snape, his interactions with Hermione I don't suppose are meant to be unfriendly. But he just has this creep factor about him. *shudders* I was glad that Hermione stuck up for Snape in the library. Hopefully Dumbledore will find more tasks to assign to both Snape and Hermione. I wonder if she noticed when he slipped and almost called her Hermione? While she gets tired of everyone telling her things will be alright, I really hope they are correct and nothing will happen to her family or friends. So I have to ask because I don't get out of my little corner of the world much- Is 75*F really considered hot in Hermione's neck of the woods? I'm not asking because I think you are wrong, I'm just getting my daily geography/culture lesson. At 100*F+ everyday, I'm dreaming of a balmy 75*F *Off to pack bags for a trip across the pond*
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
YOu are very welcome. Thank you very much for the review. Yeah, Sirius is a jerk, and his interactions are immature as if he's still Hogwarts age himself. He baits Snape and tries his 'charm' on her, but it doesn't work. Oh, as for her family - they are fine. for now. I read once that 75*F was hot for English people and that anything above that wasstifling. in the books, Harry is complaining bout the heat and at the time I think it was 80*F maybe... so it would be cooler by the coast, right? (if not - my mistake Besides, here in Calif where I am, 80*F is a lovely, normal summer day - we can get up to the 100*F too.)
Snape folds arms and looks down long, crooked nose at BeaWeasley2. "And just where have you been the last several months, Miss Weasley?" Bends in closely to bare his teeth within inches of subject author's face. "Serving detention with Loo-in? Helping Filch catalog his collection of torture instruments? Campaigning with Miss Granger for elf rights?" Straightens, and left corner of lip curls in disdain. "If it weren't for the Headmaster's intervention, I'd give the ...essay you've just handed in a Troll. Be assured that your offering will be given my fullest attention. Yes, indeed, you should quaver. Now, be gone!" Folds arms and thinks as subject flees dungeon. "Brilliant girl!"
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Cringes... tries to kiss nose. damn, he stood you too fast.... high tails it... ... Thing is, I was really hurt by some comments made by one of the mods - and I kinda became a bit depressed about whether I should continue to even write. I mean if I'm this bad - I should hang up my hat and find another hobby. (her comments at the end) But then three ladies, who's opinions matter for more to me than this not-so-nice mod, helped me get back on track and start writing. However, it still took another clean up with my betas, and was scrutinized by two more mods before it was deemed presentable. I'm still recovering from that. So please, bear with me and send thanks to Arabella, Merrin and Sinbad for the loving support. He's the thing that nearly made me stop writing all together: {"I started to go through your chapter last night, but stopped about a quarter way down when I hit 30 errors. Since our queue is growing in volume, we’re always looking for ways to reduce the workload for admins while at the same time maintain a high standard for everyone’s reading pleasure. And we try our best to help authors improve and always strive to be fair to everyone. Spending so much time on one submission unfortunately results in being unfair to other authors who have chapters in the queue, since our time is limited. So I ask you to help me get to the bottom of the problem with your chapters so we can sort it out for once and all. You’ve been posting with TPP since November 2006, that’s three and a half years, and yet, you still make the same, sometimes very basic, mistakes you made when you posted your first chapter. And it’s not because you don’t write much; you’re one of our most prolific authors. Some authors become validated authors within a short span of time; others take a year or two. We really want to see you, and every author on TPP, grow and develop your writing skills, so it's frustrating to see that some of the same mistakes still crop up. And I'm sure it's frustrating for you to get letter after letter from us asking you to make corrections! If nothing else, it means you have to wait a lot longer for your chapters to post, which seems to drive most authors bonkers. My question to you is how can we work so that you’ll get to the stage of steady improvement with regard to the error count. The normal queue process with explanations why something is needed hasn’t helped, nor have rejections or restricted status. If you have any suggestions on how we can help you clean your chapters before submitting them, I’d be most grateful. I am going to delete this chapter from the queue and look forward to hearing from you before you upload any other chapters.
I was so happy to see another installment of this - one of my favorites. You have kept us waiting. I hope all is right in your world and your lack of postings has only been because you were busy.Interesting to see the adult Severus and Sirius interact. I love how Hermione was concerned about him brewing that dangerous potion. And Sirius' attempts at charm bounce right off her.I hope our next wait is not so long :)

I actually had some very hurtful comments by ___ and nearly gave up writing altogether. I even considered finding another hobby... I mean if I'm this bad I have no business ... Well, thanks to three ladies who's opinions matter to me more than this one not-so-nice... I am at least typing again. So hang in there - I haven't gone away. Yes, it was fun doing some Severus and Sirius interaction and the reactions of the girls. lol Thanks for the support and the review.

Bea! I have been posting here for a couple of years, and I, too, have received a letter similar to the one you quoted to one of the other reviewers. Please, PLEASE, don't take offense. If you are like me, you just get very enthusiastic about your story and you don't pay as much attention as you should to those pesky commas. None of us find them all. I have a friend read through all my posts before I submit them, and she doesn't find many of them either. Neither of us are English majors. But I do find that typing everything in Word helps with many mistakes. I don't know if you have access to that program, but it is usually available in a home or office package. Also, I believe that the admins use a type of software that's much more sophisticated than Word to find mistakes. So they are bound to find more things wrong that you or I might. The key is to not just make the changes they ask for, but read and understand their reasons for the changes. I have learned a lot from that, and I don't make as many mistakes as I used to. But I am still not a validated author even after over two years. So take heart. You are a very talented writer. I love your stories. I think I have read almost all of the ones you have here a TPP. Please don't stop. P.S. I looked this review over and found several misplaced commas in just this short bit. There are probably one or two that I didn't catch. Oh well...
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Yes, I use 2007 MS Word. I have an alpha reader and 2 betas. Still stuff gets through. I read through every chapter before submitting it to my alpha - again after making suggested corrections before each time I send it to a beta, and again beore posting, and stuff still gets by. THis is not the first time I've been slammed by this same person. I read stuff on other sites and think - "why am I still on this one" But I will finish my three WIP's and... who knows.
Response from ClayPotter (Reviewer)
If you give it up here but continue somewhere else, please let me know where. I love your writing and hope, grammar problems and all, that you'll keep up the wonderful work. Your writing really is amazing.
Yeah! A new chapter. So very glad to see it. And well worth the wait.Loved reading your take on events of the summer between fourth and fifth years. I enjoy reading other views of what might have been happening while Harry is stuck at the Dursley's. Also like the interaction between Severus and Hermione while they're cleaning. Does Hermione recognize Severus' near slip when he starts to call her "Hermione" but changes it to Miss Granger? And I realize Ginny is starting to see Sirius in a different light. Does this also apply to how she may be seeing Professor Snape? Does she pick up on the tenor of conversation/instruction that Hermione receives from Severus?Well, a lot to think about. And the school year hasn't even started yet.Thank you so much for giving us a mid-summer treat with this update. Here's hoping the next chapter will be sooner in coming *sends creative charm to your muse*
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Hermione's view of Sirius was changed irrevocably in her last jump back to Severus' school years. She saw it all first hand. Ginny is now seeing it all and she's not liking it either. Dunno if she caught the slip - she might have. lol Oh, she sees him as she did because of the jumps, but things are still developing there. Not romantically, sorry, but they get along better. lol My muse thanks you for the charm.
Telling how although Snape isn't nice to her, he is at least not unpleasant. :)
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Yes, well, he isn't exactly used to being nice to her, but in all, he's not really a horrible guy, only extremely, I mean extremely, rough around the edges. But he's trying to figure out this all works. lol Thank you for the review, sunny
Sigh. I really want to smack Sirius.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
LOL I know, huh. Thank you for the review.
Ah, yes - Sirius Black is a nasty piece of work and being stuck in his ancestral home is doing absolutely nothing for his scintillating personality. It is very good to see that Ginny is picking up on his unnecessary baiting attempts.I see that Hermione is smart enough to avoid being alone with him if possible. He's very unstable.Oh! Yay for the update!!!!
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Yes, Sirius is a prat, a berk, a childish snot... and hasn't grown up any. Both girls are picking up on his baiting attempts. Thank you for the review.
I adore a masterful Severus. Sirius is really being a pain. I liked how Ginny sided with Hermione on the question of the books.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Thank you very much, so do I! Yep, Sirius is a real prat in this. lol I can see Ginny siding with Hermione on a number of things. Thank you for the review.
Thank you for this great chapter and all story. I hoped, that you mention Severus return to Voldemort. His view on developing situations was perfekt. I had little problem with translation the names of the magical creatures and Viktor's sentences, but also i enjoy it. Splendid was scene in the Yulle Ball, when Severus compared himself and Krum.I read mostly in Ashwinder, here i registred recently. I saw this story was in queue, but now here isn't the notice. Will the next chapter soon? Thank you very much for answer, i love this.I hope, that me has been understand in english. I still use dictonary.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
I"m glad that you enjoyed the chapter. I do skip some things that are in the book and elude to others. While some things may change, the basic stuff in the books will not. Some will, of course. Some of the creatures I use are made up and some are canon. Just go to HP Lexicon and check there. I do tend to post my three WIP's first on this site, but update others quickly after they post. Yes, I understood you fine. Thank you for the review.
wonderful update! thanks and mucho smoochies
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
You are very welcome, kimjo. Hugs and smoochies back
Loved how he assisted Hermione while she helped Harry.Looking forward to seeing if there's any interaction between years 4 & 5 and whatever comes next!
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Thank you very much. Some, but that's all I'll admit to. Thank you for the review and the pretty stars.
Err... but he's working for Dumbledore, isn't he? He shouldn't think of what he did as traitorous. He had no choice. How else would Voldie believe him?
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
If you look at the fact that he might have joined Voldemort the first time thinking he could protect Lily, even though she'd accused him of being on that path already, and here he is again, going to bow before the wizard who hates all Muggle-borns - it is like a act of betrayal. Yes, he's doing it to help Dumbledore, but he went back to the snake pit and told Voldemort things about Harry that would secure his place in Voldemort's favor agian. Guilt can make one feel like a traitor. And he had a choice, although not a option he wanted to take - running. Severus knew it to be futile. So he submitted to his fate. So now he has his role as spy all over again. After 14 years of a relatively respectful life under Dumbledore's protection, teaching dunderheads Potions - he's back to relaying informations and risking his neck. And he's still teaching Potions to dunderheads too boot. I though he deserved a moment of solitude before going back. Thank you for the review. Sorrry for the ranting reply. Hugs~
that is where it ends?
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Nope, chapter 21 is in queue. and I'm writing year 5, the OoTP chapters... but I have to make sure it's what I want and keeping it all straight. It's coming along, only a few hiccups - a snag, and a broken fingernail, my alpha reader is helping me with. *Shrug*So bear with me?
Very nice chapter. Really enjoyed reading this one. Severus' concern for Hermione is very touching. I would say sweet, but how can the word 'sweet' be used in reference to Severus? Anyway, liked being able to read his thoughts and concerns. The pressures of his position are wearing on him - part of me wants you to break from canon and write a story for Severus that allows him to have what he desires at this point, even though I doubt he would cross the teacher/student line even at this point with Hermione being of age. At least he acknowledged to himself that he's attracted to Hermione and it's NOT because of her Bloom. Nicely done, Bea. And I'm very excited to see that the next chapter is in queue. You're spoiling us - please keep it up! Thanks for sharing your story with us.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
I'm so glad that you enjoyed the chapter. You know, as much as I do often think he's being sweet, and I do type in moments were he is being sweet, it's not a word one thinks in regards to him at all, is it? You're so right there. lol Yes, the pressures are weighing in on him.In regards to the breaking of canon and beginning a relationship here, I'm really - in this story I'm not doing the teacher/student. Sorry. Not to say that things aren't going to heat up significently at some point soon. Yes, he's attracted to her and it's not because of her Bloom, although that did make him realize that she was desirable in the first place. But then Severus would want more than physical attraction to a potential lover, wouldnt he?Yep, next one is in queue andshhh I have sent two more two more to my beta for clean up! So when I get them back - I'll send them into the queue as soon as I can. Thank you for readign and for the review. I appreciate them very much. Hugs
Response from Sharn (Reviewer)
Oh, you are much too good to us, your devoted readers! And I'm glad you're not crossing the teacher/student line in this story. But I am very much looking forward to see how things develop between our two favorite characters. BTW, I see your name listed in other writer's author notes and can see how involved you are in this fandom writing. It's a wonder you have time for your own stories. But I'm very, very glad you do.

, you are, in a big way, one of the reasons I'm still typing away happily, and try so had to make the story readable. Even if you were the only one, I'd still finish the story, just for you. I feel that way with everyone I'm sharing this with. I decided, that with all the other storie sout there, and mine included, that have the teacher/student thing going on, I'd try one where he and she resisted. for kicks. Not that I don't intend to have it happen between them, it's all about timing. Yes, I open myself up as a second eye to anyone who woudl like me to. I offer suggestions, catch what I can and offer support and an ear. It's fun. Just as I appreciate the ladies (and a few guys) who support me in my writing. Besides, I find it helps me as a writer as well, and I'm thrilled to be asked. Supporting each other is what's so awesome about the fandom. Well, off to type. Hope your week is going well. Hugs~
beautifully done! does she get to go back again, tho? thanks and mucho smoochies
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Ah the suspense... Sorry for now, I'm typing year 5. But you will see the ripples of her time travel, Is that okay?Thank you very much for the review. I love smoochies!
The thing I find interesting about your story is that when Hermione and Severus are back in time, I wonder how they'll react to each other when they're in 'present time.' Then, like with this chapter, when they are in 'present time,' I wonder how and when the time travel will occur and what will happen between them then. I think I want them both in each chapter ;-)Nice take on a different perspective of the second task. I'm trying to imagine how you're going to complete this task and move on to the third. It lends itself to some good Hermione/Severus moments. Looking forward to your next chapter. Enjoy your writing.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
I am so amused that you want it both ways - like I did with The Enchanted Tower Room, eh? lol Nope, sorry. There will be time travel coming, but not now. Year 4 is written, on my beta's desk, and will soon be ready to post. However, it was written as one long chapter - then divided. The hard part is that for now, what Severus can show in private(when she's asleep) he can't otherwise. Year 5 is in progress on my laptop, and you'll see the ripple affect of her time travel grow. That's all I can say for now. As for the lake - I didn't want to rehash the events of the book, but couldn't avoid them - so I looked for the 'other perspective' as much as possible. It also intrugued me that the victims were underwater for so long... and I wondered how they could? I mean we humans have to breathe! The champions were given an hour - was that a forced time restriction? why? and my little mind mulled it over. You know the results. I'm so glad you liked my theory!Thank you so much for your ocmpliments, they really are inspirational. I hope you like the rest of my story. Hugs~
Response from Sharn (Reviewer)
Oh, I didn't think there would really be any time travel between the second and third task, but you can't blame me for wishing for it. Their 'similar age' relationship is quite intriguing. And, of course, it has to have an effect on adult Severus *rubs hands together in anticipation*Oh, don't worry about whether or not I'll like the rest of your story. 'Lovin it' is a given.
I love this story. I keep swearing I am going to wait until it's done and read it all at once, and then I cave in. The image of Snape preparing Hermione for the water is hauntingly tense, even though we know what comes next. Excellent.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Thank you so very much. I'm flatted that you are sticking wiht me. I really flattered by your comments about my lake scene. I wanted to show what it was like for the 'victims' and was really please with what I came up with. I'm so glad it worked. My beta has the next chapter, only RL has slowed things down for now. Please have patience with me. On the up side, year5 is fully outlinned and in progress. Thank you very much for the review and the shiny stars.
Thought He'd be a bit jealous of her and Krim. Can't blame him, but maybe he'll put two and two together with Krum's resemblance to him. Kind of fun to see him sit and worry without anyone knowing it.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Oh maybe, but yes, the ripples of her time travel are showing... he is jealous of that which he can't have.very sly of him - but then again, he has to put her under the lake. Of course he's worried, they were untested potions for crying out loud. teehehe Thank you very much for the review.
I love that Severus is jealous of Viktor.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
He would call it concern, or at the very least, his obligation to see to her best interests... but you're right. Thank you for the review.
It is so nice to finally see what happened to the victims of the second task. I love that Severus was worried about Hermione. Oh, and lest I forget, I love the jealousy brought about by seeing Krum bestowing his affections on Hermione. I'm not exactly sure where I want this to go (I say as if I have any choice in the matter). I loved the dynamic between young Severus and Hermione. Now that they are back in real time, they obviously can't be a couple, but I had hoped that they could be friends. Which I admit would still be odd, unless they could find a guise under which to operate, like her helping him with potions for the infirmary or something. No one would doubt she had the talent, even as a fourth year. They have had a few moments, but I'm really craving more. Can't wait to see how this plays out.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
I thought it would be intriguig to show that aspect of the task. Yes, he's quite concerned about her - er, best interests at heart. That's it. lolhmmmm, *strokes chin* then you'll like what comes down the line... that's all I can say for now. Thank you very much for the review and the pretty stars.
It was interesting reading your take on how Hermione and the others would regard being stuck down in the lake for a few hours! :)
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Thank you. I just was amazed that, considering Harry had such a time dealing with one hour, Ron, Hermione, Gabriel and Cho were already down there - before everyone came down to the lake, found seats to watch the water. What, easily an hour or more before the task even began! Hermione being Muggle-born looks at it from our perspective - impossible! lol Thank you for the review.
"Severus turned back to the Hall. Well if he’s her choice, I see no reason to be bothered with her, he thought with a dark scowl, giving her up as a lost cause."
Bless his heart, when I read Severus' reaction to Krum's kiss on Hermione's cheek, I thought he'd go into another prolonged funk of ignoring her. But then I thought that he's so very besotted with Hermione, and I hope he will soon be brought to his senses. And he was!!! He could not, and would not, abandon her to be treated by anyone other than himself in preparation her for her part in the second task. It's true that he had ignored her everywhere but in class, and even then he had been snarky and denied her attempts to remain after class, but he would not allow anyone but himself to administer her potions before she would be taken to the depths of the lake.
He was so gentle and caring with her when it was time for her to drink the potions that would protect her when she was under water. I loved that the first one brought her dreams of being in Severus' arms when they had fallen to sleep on her bed in his lab the last time she went back. Not matter what happens, Severus cannot forget what she has come to mean to him, and when he called her "my little Gryffindor," I wanted to cheer.
I'm glad that he saw that his plan to get the gillyweed into Harry's hands succeeded, but I expect he will be on needles and pins until he sees Hermione and she takes her first breath.
Splendid chapter, bea! Thank you. Beth
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Brayer! Hi, nope, he started to show his softer side, the one she’d seen when he was a teen. His protectiveness toward her came out again. Although he’s not admitting it to himself yet, he cares for her. The Freudian slip of his pet name is proof.
Thank you for the review and the pretty stars.
Too funny to see your reasnoning for Severus' behaviour and in a way explain why he read Rita's article aloud during class Yes, I know you never mentioned it in chapter, but still... I like the way you're subtly building up to (hopefully furterhing) a present relationship between Severus and Hermione.Looking forward to seeing what happens next!
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Well, I’m starting to show the ripples of her jumps and their effect on Severus. So yes in a indirect way it does explain the reason he read Rita’s article aloud to embarrass Hermione. Since I don’t want to rehash the books too much. I hope to give you the next chapter soon, my beta has it already. Thank you for the review and the pretty stars.
Good thing Krum's goodnight was so innocent, I don't imagine Dumbledore would have appreciated him cursing Krum. Although the explanation would have been fun to hear. As always, it was was a joy to read.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
LOL that is really funny – I didn’t think about how Severus would have reacted to a real kiss! That’s funny! Thank you for the review and the pretty stars.
Yea another chapter. This is really getting good. I soooo love a jelous Severus. Can't wait for the next update.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
Yep, I do have more to come! Thank you very much. Isn’t he fun when he’s not realizing that he’s jealous? I’ll update as soon as I can,
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of Consequences of Meddling with Time)
. Thank you for the review and the pretty stars.
