Hermione, Ginny and Luna, sharing a girl moment, decide to cast a Pairing-Plight Troth Charm on themselves for fun. Each placed in the cauldron one yesterday-today-and-tomorrow flower with sugar and spice and everything nice, and a snip, a snail and puppy-dog tail as they each said the rhyme. For Ginny, the results are exactly what she expected, and for Luna, she was only mildly surprised. However, for Hermione, the results were disastrous! She thought she’d be paired to Ron and live happily ever after. So what happened and why is she seeing Professor Snape in her dreams? He’s dead – isn’t he?

I love to write. A dreamer, a creator and filled with wonder, imagination and life. Sometimes I get lost in the other worlds I've read and in some I create. It's all good, I’m in good company.

Oh, things are looking up...

Yes, things are going better.
It's like a dance, two stepos forward, one step back, then a sideways shuffle! :)

Oh I love this analogy! But yes, that is so true! Thank you for the laugh! oh, and the review!
I hope Hermione understands that she can help Severus make NEW happy memories. perhaps the two of them can go looking for plants for a new garden, new paint and wallpaper to make the house feel homey. I'm guessing that Severus is a typical bachelor -- no notion of redecorating. at least they had a decent date without Hermione or Severus storming off. thanks for the new chapter!!
Response from June W (Reviewer)
ps -- I was SO glad when she finally told Ron to get off her! the other matched couples don't have anyone clinging to them and poisoning the relationship. good growth, Hermione!
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of The Plight-Trothed Bride)
Thank you. Oh, Ron's not out of the picture yet. He has to come to grips with it too... but yes, Hermione made a good move.
Delicious meal! :)
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of The Plight-Trothed Bride)
Thank you. Yep, Lucius went all out for his 'guest'. (I think he didn't want her to have him arrested.)
I can see Hermione's attitude has changed. When she returned from her lunch with Lucius Malfoy and Ron was all over her I think she could finally see how inappropriate his actions are and her acceptance of his attentions. He is not behaving like a brother, everyone knows that. The date between the bonded pair was a considerable improvement from previous encounters. Severus's plea at the end of each date: "stay," tears at my heartstrings. I feel that although he is sexually attracted to Hermione, this request is asking for more than that. I believe he now wants his wife and he wants her in his home to begin their life together.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of The Plight-Trothed Bride)
Yes, there would be a change now, wouldn't it, and no, Ron is not acting like a brother. He doesn't want to be a brother to her. Yes, she is seeing it now.I'm glad that you liked the date - well, more of spending a day together than a date. Expect another one coming up soon. Yes, the plea was maybe more than a sexual thing, but she is too young to know that. She still has trust issues to deal with and he has a bit to atone ofr, as does she. But at least they are starting to make a foundation.Thank you for the review. I liked your comments.
Are you sure you don't mean anecdote rather than antidote?
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of The Plight-Trothed Bride)
Ah, er, ok. Some things do get by me and my betas, only human here. I hope you liked the chapter, otherwise?
Response from mikimoto (Reviewer)
Of course. It is good to see Hermione becoming wiser due to listening to more counselors. But it seems as if they are both waiting for a sign from the other, so we could be in for a long wait before things improve.
Well that was definitely blunt and to the point, in regards to Severus' childhood, but who could blame him.I have to give both of them points in this chapter. They both appear to be making some sort of effort. I hope now that Hermione has the information she is seeking she will work more toward making her marriage work rather than fighting her wizard ever step of the way.Of course his home seems depressing. Every home she compared it to had a loving family living in it. Spinner's End has had a dysfunctional family and a sarcastic bastard as occupants. It needs to be nutured by positive emotion to feel happy and welcoming. Hermione's influence in the home will make the difference and I am sure it probably already has started for Severus. Thanks for the wonderful update.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of The Plight-Trothed Bride)
Yes, I know but when you really don't want to talk about the 'bad times' in your life and with Hermione digging, he just let it out. I suppose it's good to get it off your chest, so to speak, but I think he wanted to shut up about his past. LOLThanks, yes, they are, well, trying a bit here. They still have a way to go though.Yes, and it will take time to make the changes necessary. At least they have a bit of a start thanks to Narcissa.I'm glad you like the chapter. Thank you for the review.
So happy to see an update, I really love this story. After hearing Severus describe his childhood, it's no wonder that his home has an air of sadness about it. It sounds like there were no happy memories created there. It seems like they are moving closer to a more solid relationship, and Hermione is starting to realize that the spell is not something that can be undone.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of The Plight-Trothed Bride)
I'm very happy to oblige. Yes, he sort of just dumped it on her, got it off his chest, probably more to shut her up about his past. But yes, compared to other homes Hermione knows, his is depressing. No wonder though. There are precious few happy memories in the house. Severus isn't actually thinking on the positive here.Yes, she is starting to realize that it is immutable. Thank you for the review.
Well, that was one of the sweetest Augustas I've ever read. Hermione's date with Severus was one of the best in this story, and I thought the kiss at the end was lovely. They're learning!
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of The Plight-Trothed Bride)
Thank you very much. I love Augusta Longbottom and I know she's not always a bear, I somehow wanted her to have a romantic side.Thank you for the compliment, yes, this was as close to a 'normal' day for these two. They are both making a bit more effort now. hopefully, if I keep them cooperating with me!Thank you so much for the review. It means a lot.
That was a much more reasonable day, I believe. They may actually find a way to connect.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of The Plight-Trothed Bride)
Yes, this was a more relaxed, normal day. Given time they might yet, yes.Thank you for the review.
Ooooooh That Severus! He wants my foot up his bum doesn't he!?!?! I hate it when he pulls Legillemancy on someone without their concent! Seriously I'm with Hermione on the whole mind-rape thing! Just because you have the ability to do something doesn't mean you can do it all the time! Dumb ass. Anyways I hope he has to answer for that in a more serious way than Hermione just mentioning it to him! He needs to know he can't get away with that kind of crap! Sorry for the rant. But you can't build trust if you go rooting around for answers like that. Anyways, Thanks for the Update! And getting me fired up about something is always a bonus! I love the fact that this story really brings out this kind of emotion! Great job and great writing and well amazing story!!! Much Love ~ Karen Lyn

Yes, well, he wanted answers and didn't want to mess - who am I kidding. He goofed. He was deplorable and yes, I'm going to call him on it. BUt in doing so, Hermione is going to gain ground here. Thank you for the review.

Severus and Hermione may be having ahard time at this realtionship - but they can tango! I will get them sorted. Have faith.

These two are as prickly as porcupines (I think there is a story titled somewhat the same somewhere.)Perhaps Narcissia needs to tell Severus she has redone Spinners End, at least Hermione will go there. I like this story so much as well as The Self-Writing Parchment can't wait for updates on both.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of The Plight-Trothed Bride)
Yes, well, for now. They don't really know one another, she's fed up and he's finally trying and, well, I'm trying to sort them out! I just sent in the next chpater of Enchanted Tower Room. Finished a 3 chap. But I have a huge project due really soon so I have to get that done before I can go back to playing. So it may be a little while. sorry.

It's interesting to read the other reviews. Some people expect Severus and Hermione to act like mature adults. Right now I expect NO ONE to act like a mature adult. I have spend much of the past week on the phone with a friend who has done everything in her power lately to make the worst decisions possible. Had she sat down and made a list, how can I screw things up badly? the only thing she might have added to her actions was throwing herself in front of a train.I guess what I am trying to say is that when it comes to people, you simply never know what idiotic thing they may decide to do! SO Severus violating Hermione's mind is hardly surprising to me, after dealing with a self-destructive pal who is seen by others as a brilliant scholar and professional woman.Sorry about the personal rant. Glad my pal doesn't read fan fiction.By the way, I am enjoying this story very much and hope Hermione 'rips him a new one," as my DH so elegantly puts it.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of The Plight-Trothed Bride)
I've been having the same reaction to the varied responces to this chapter. That Severus' reactions - or Hermine's would be rational and mature. Not yet I'm afarid. I'm really sorry about your friend. I could give her a few less painful ways to screw up then you won't loose a friend to a train wreck. (ps. tell her the train will win) I'm glad you pointed out that people will do some idiotic things, and no, Severus was not thinking about consequences when he did Legilimency or trying to sway her to come to the Manor. and yes, Hermione should have told Severus of her plans. Although, he still wouldn't have liked it!Thank you so much for this review. I really appreciated reading your thoughts and am grateful for the support.(Pssst. Hermione will confront him about both issues and they will have a very, er, well they will argue again. shhhh!)

I guess I am a little confused ..Hermione wants to be loved and respected. Severus wants to control. I don't see much common ground there.I don't think that Severus realizes that a happy Hermione equals a happy Severus ... and if he ever does, I fear he will only use that knowledge to manipulate her.I think the problem arises from Severus not wanting to love and be loved. He just wants the sex. If he doesn't come around to wanting love, I can't see how there will be any common ground on which to build a marriage.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of The Plight-Trothed Bride)
You are not the only one. Severus is cunning, manipulative, dysfunctional, and getting over the fact that Hermione trapped him in this magical Bonding (married) and is at least now trying to court her. But I have to get Severus to realize he's a jerk and change, get him to see Hermione for herself and him to fall for her – not an easy task, considering he’s so dysfunctional with relationships. Look how he is with Narcissa and Lucius and they are his best friends! Hermione has been hurt, is angry, confused, is told she can have an annulment by Kingsley, Marvin Maretbell of the MoM, while Severus says they can't - it's a magical Bonding and the MoM is just trying to appease her Muggle sensibilities. Hermione is tired of being a doormat. Ron is still hanging around waiting for her to get the annulment so he can be with her, Rita is still spreading gossip and lies about them, Maggie is feeding Rita any tidbit she hears, and Ginny, Luna and George keep telling her it will work out in the end. Besides, Hermione has to grow up, and stand up for herself or Severus will never respect her. and in the next chapter Hermione confronts Severus about the mental rape, the lack of respect and that he doesn't love her. Keep in mind the time frame. This all started the first full moon after the final battle. Final Battle is May 1st – 3rd and the full moon was May 11th. This chapter is the first Monday after Harry’s weekend Birthday Adventure August 2nd. I think Severus is coming to terms with this well, and having quite a few psychological breakthroughs. Hermione is starting to stand up for herself and setting boundaries. Neither is really committed to this yet and yet both are still trying to work things out, in small steps. Severus will make mistakes, Hermione will be stubborn and occasionally get hurt as this relationship develops. It will not happen overnight. Oh, gads, sorry for the rant! But I hope I clarified a few things of what I’m aiming for and what I’m doing. And thank you very much for the review. I really do appreciate your comments and concerns.

Excellent chapter. Some progress was made by Severus. The description of their kiss virtually makes breathing difficult.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of The Plight-Trothed Bride)
Hmmm You didn't mind the mental rape? Yes, he is trying, but still making mistakes. But there is progress. Thank you for the review.
Response from Maddie (Reviewer)
I didn't say that. Severus was ruthless. However, he is right that it is improper for Hermione to go away with and sleep in a room with her ex-boyfriend now that she is effectively married. The bathing suit is scandalous for the Wizarding World, she should have known that. In fact, after being following around by the press, where was her head? As for progress by Severus, they did agree to spend each night together they day before she left on her trip. She did admit she made that agreement. And Hermione does respond to him physically. They do seem to enjoy spending time together studying intellectual pursuits, even in nature.

For a moment there I thought they were going to apparate to a secluded location and have at each other after that kiss they shared. lol I feel Severus' frustration with their attempts to come together being so difficult. Could it be that they really aren't meant to be together? Nah... :)I'm enjoying this story a lot and I'm looking forward to continued reading. I like the way you seem to have captured Severus' character - at least the way I see him - and still made it believable that he'd be trying to work things out romantically. It's nice to see Severus unchanged from his normal snarky/gitty self while still tackling the art of romance. Too many times he becomes a bit sappy but in this story, I feel like I can count on seeing the Severus Snape that I know from the books while still seeing him in a more adult story and setting. Great work!!
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of The Plight-Trothed Bride)
They might have if Severus hadn't tried to coax her into going to the manor with him again. I"m glad you sense the frustration and the change in him, from furious/trapped to trying to romance her. It 's not something he's ever done before (in this story) and yes, he's inept at it. He plans the right things, but his actions - well... Likewise Hermione is getting stronger... the next few will be intersting. I thank you for the review. I am trying to keep the canon Snape in my Severus. I hope to avoid sappy, but I will have to soften his edges a bit.

i still really love this story. but - i'm irked with severus this chapter, for two reasons. one - he should not have performed legilimency on her. he needs to learn to trust her or they will never work. and two - he really ought to be able to understand why she does not want to go malfoy manor. the fact that he is so insensitive to her feelings on the subject has me really irritated. i know he's trying to sort things out, but for somebody so brilliant, he's got no emotional intelligence whatsoever and he's being a big, dumb clod.
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of The Plight-Trothed Bride)
Yes, you are right. He is trying, but he doesn't trust easily. No, he shouldn't have used Legilimency on her, and it will be an issue in the next chapter, as well as the issues of the manor. He is Dysfunctional when it comes to relationships in this one, and has to learn. Believe me he gets called on this. By more than one person. Thank you for the review.

I really like all your other stories. You are an excellent writer. However, as a woman who was in a relationship with a domineering manipulative man who lied.....I'm out. This Hermione belongs with Ron, and I've never liked Ron other than in the books. What Snape did isn't practically rape, it is rape, just in a different form. Maybe your Severus loves her in his own way, but many men who beat there wives would say they love them too. Just the fact that he would even ASK her to go to the Malfoys shows that he has no respect for her or really loves her. He doesn't deserve her, you don't try to manipulate people you love. You are an excellent writer, but if this story had a happy ending for Severus and Hermione it wouldn't really be a happy ending and it wouldn't be form of Hermione I would ever want to know. Sorry.

OH GADS! It's as if you read my next chapter!! I have Hermione telling him the exact same things, sort of, when he comes to pick her up! It's a date that doesn't happen, a fight and... oh, well. Actually, Severus is somewhat dysfuntional in this, and Hermione isn't a woman about town - she's a 18 year-old girl. I know she's taken a lot, but she is putting her foot down. This is why the story is longer than my usual. But if it's too much, then I understand. This relastionship is evolving, but will take some healing to get there.

something is very wrong here. I hope severus eventually learns that legilimens like that IS practically rape. I don't want hermione to stay in a relationship like that! how is it possible that the spell placed her in an abusive relationship?
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of The Plight-Trothed Bride)
Yes it is. and Hermione did call him on it. He WILL learn that he can't jsut do that if he's going to have a marriage with Hermione. It's Who is in the relationship. He was angry, took it out on her. She stood by him because she felt guilty and then wouldn't kick him when was down/arrested. Now she's starting to think of a way out and he's trying to court her, make it better. It's not working - yet. But considering she is getting conflicting information - she is bidding her time to get to a magical library. She will soon. very soon. And Severus will try again to have a 'date' with her. I know, I'm being slow on the development of the relationship, but it is a romance, but not one of red roses, there are thorns. I'll get there. I promise and not too far off.

Ron is still being a prat. Don't think Severus would be too happy if he found out she was using his broom either... I'm glad they had their date, even if it was a bit delayed. It was good of him to stay near her while they were in flight after finding out she was afraid of flying. Too bad he was so insistant on going back to the Manor. If he had been willing to 'make due' with the set-up he thought he had at Spinner's End, since she would probably have been willing to go there even if she didn't particularly like the idea, they would have finally found out about Narcissa's 'little gift'. Really like this fic! Looking forward to the next.

Thank you. I'm so flattered that you like this story. Yep, Ron is still a bit of a prat, but he's at least starting to accept that Hermione will have to decide, and he's willing to give her space, for now.I don't think Severus cared who's broom she had, just that she had one. Yes, he is at least showing some 'caring' in regards to her safety. His judgement about the manor was off, but it is where he is brewing his potions. Don't worry they will see Spinner's end... soon enough.Thank you for the lovely review.

wait a minute, didn't he track her to Godric's Hollow (after she'd left) and stun two Death Eaters, then summon the Aurors for them? that would explain much of why he was panicky when he couldn't find Hermione. why doesn't he tell her about that??the date was very nice and it seemed that she enjoyed it. I hope he fixes up Spinner's End - or fixes up his new quarters at Hogwarts - so that she won't mind going with him there. I think it's encouraging that they didn't discuss annulment, but I do wonder if Severus will give her the books that Lucius gave him.THANK YOU for the nice long chapter - much appreciated!!
Response from beaweasley2 (Author of The Plight-Trothed Bride)
Severus had gone to Godric's Hollow the day after Harry, Hermione and friends went, and yes, saw the Death Eaters and learned that Hermione had fought and escaped. He was panicky, annoyed, furrious and angry at being stood up, but not panicky. Yes, the date was nice, well planned and thought out. Spinner's End was cleaned - Narcissa told her house-elf to clean it as if she were going to be staying there. They did.The annulment was one of the decisions made at the end of their first date, along with getting together every night, no sex, and Hermione may live at Potter's. (temp)Oh, Hermione will get the books, and a talking to... won't say more now.Thank you very much for the review.

He was panicky, annoyed, furrious and angry at being stood up, but not panicky. Yes, the date was nice, well planned and thought out. Spinner's End was cleaned - Narcissa told her house-elf to clean it as if she were going to be staying there.
