I am a classically trained singer with three children. I love Star Trek and have watched probably every episode of every series. Favorite HP charaters are Snape and McGonagall. (not as a couple.)

I enjoyed Red's reaction to Severus' voiced thoughts that she must be someone's familiar sent to play a joke on him. All that wing flapping and turning her back to him ultimately gave him a much needed laugh! I hope with time that he will come to understand that he is cared about by his colleagues and most certainly by Miss Granger. And I hope he realizes that before he finds out that Red and Miss Granger are one and the same.
Very nice chapter, Deb! Thanks.Beth

He will eventually see the light, but not before much wailing and gnashing of teeth. He really makes his life harder than it needs to be with all his suspicions. Alas, he's a product of his environment, and his environment has been pretty awful for most of his life. (Maybe all...)Thanks so much, Beth!
For an intelligent man, Snape is remarkably obtuse in not realising Red is an animagus bird....He's guessed everything else, so why not that? LOL.More please.
Response from debjunk (Author of Recovery)
*Snerk* Yes, he's thought of every other possibility, hasn't he? But really, Animagi aren't that common, despite them popping up everywhere in JKR's world. And all are registered and publicised. (Yes, I know... not ALL)I'm not so sure he'd pop right to that assumption, but when he does find out it will be a *head/desk* moment, I think.
Poor Severus, I wish he believed that he has friends.
Response from debjunk (Author of Recovery)
That would make his life so much easier, wouldn't it? Well, given his background, it's easy to see why he feels as he does. Has he ever really had a true friend? Lily for a while, but even she deserted him when things got tough. It's hard for him to believe anyone could care for him given what he's done.
I've been away and haven't kept up. delighted to have a few chapters to read at once! Thanks for such an interesting tale.-Wahoo
Response from debjunk (Author of Recovery)
Glad you're back! Also glad you're liking this.
Poor Severus. This is really a very moving story.-Wahoo
Response from debjunk (Author of Recovery)
Thank you. He's in a terrible way. It's slowly getting better, but Hermione and the rest of us would much rather see him not so down on himself. In time, he'll recover.
Nice touching chapter. I am enjoying your tale very much.
Response from debjunk (Author of Recovery)
Thank you. Severus is really having a hard time of it. Little does he know he has Hermione.
Very nicely done chapter, Deb! Severus has discovered that the "know-it-all" he remembers from his classroom has grown into adulthood with a nimble mind and the ability to reason her way to logical conclusions. Gone is the young student who parroted back what she had read, and in her place is a bright and entertaining person with whom he could enjoy an evening of conversation and good food. And I loved how the lady on the street came up to them to thank them for all they did to win the war with Voldemort and to apologize to Severus in particular for having harbored such bad thoughts about his character.
All things considered, I'd say Hermione's plan to get Severus out his dungeons for a bit was a smashing success! Severus is still so down on himself that he can't see any reason, other than pity, for Hermione having asked him to come to Hogsmeade with her. "Just a project, then. Unfortunate... she was actually quite good company. Now that she’s seen how I really am, though, she'll not have a desire to burden herself with my presence. He sighed heavily. Too bad. It was nice to not think of how awful I am for a couple of hours."
But I think the seed has been planted, and Hermione is far from ready to abandon Severus Snape to his dungeons and his thoughts. It may not be a smooth road that they will travel, but I think they will come to some life changing and life affirming agreements that will be mutually beneficial.
Well done!Beth

Thanks, Beth! You're right, it won't be easy, but nothing worthwhile ever is. Severus really doesn't realize how stubborn Hermione can be when she's set her mind to something. She won't just leave him to himself now that the door's been opened. And she's definitely matured. She's learned to mix book-knowlege with instinct. Definitely a good combination!
She's made a start. Wonder what she will do next? :)
Response from debjunk (Author of Recovery)
A definite start. She's got a ways to go, though.
I think that perhaps the public should be made aware of the terms of Severus's release.
Response from debjunk (Author of Recovery)
Hmm, that's not a bad idea. I wonder if there would be enough outrage to change anything, or would most people just shrug it off.
Response from sinbad (Reviewer)
I think if it's broached correctly there would be outrage. It would be a tricky situation to handle that's for sure.
OMG. I loved this chapter. What really struck me was their dialouge while walking to Hogsmede. I loved how Hermione knew that his love of Lily wasn't and couldn't be the only reason that he switched sides. I hope that he doesn't close down on her when she tries to make plans with him again. This was such a great start for them I hope it wasn't one step forward and three steps back. I can't wait to see what happens next.Much Love ~ Brena
Response from debjunk (Author of Recovery)
Well, I do like that song... Oh wait, that's one step forward and TWO steps back. But nonetheless, the song rang through my head when I read this.
It is a good start. Severus is complicated, however. But good ground work can often times overcome a lot.
Awww!! I think what Hermione did for Severus was just what he needed. I be he'd be surprised the next time she decides to pop up. He thinks it was a one time thing, but I think she's going to go to him every night. Or at least a few nights a week.
Response from debjunk (Author of Recovery)
He definitely thinks it's a one time thing, and you're right, he'll be pretty shocked when she keeps giving him attention.
She's slowly pulling him out of his self-created shell. But if I didn't know any better, I'd say the woman they met in Hogsmeade was a set up. Naw, Hermione is too honest for that, but it was just what Severus need to hear. LOLAnother great chappie, dj.
Response from debjunk (Author of Recovery)
It seemed almost too good to be true, huh? But you know, next time they'll probably run into evil-wench person who hates him. Luck of the draw, I think. Thanks, C!
In Muggle terms, Snape seems to be in a deep depression. Perhaps there's a potion for it? I really hope so. It's one thing to feel deeply guilty but it's another to constantly reject help while wallowing in it. IMHO, he needs to start dealing with real facts - and soon.
Response from debjunk (Author of Recovery)
Huh. I wouldn't doubt that there is a potion for that. I wonder if he'll think to brew it, or whether he even recognizes how bad off he is. But little by little, the facts will start to become reality for him.
Man, he sure can throw some major pity parties!
Response from debjunk (Author of Recovery)
LOL. Woe as me, he can.
I'm so glad they both enjoyed their lunch together, and Severus you couldn't be more wrong I think Hermione will be seeking you out again very soon (well I hope). Great chapter.
Response from debjunk (Author of Recovery)
Hmm, knowing Hermione, you're absolutely right. :)
A good chapter, and I look forward to more...
Response from debjunk (Author of Recovery)
Thank you!
I love the thought of Hermione in a dual role here. Imagine Severus telling the falcon of his 'growing feelings for the witch'... when she IS the witch!Brilliant stuff, I am loving this!
Response from debjunk (Author of Recovery)
Ah,
Response from debjunk (Author of Recovery)
, that would be too funny. Of course, he'd need to realize he had growing feelings and not be pushing them down along with everything else that's been bugging him. Odds of that happening... ???
Oh, I hope Hermione doesn't have cause to regret her decision later on (although she probably will)! Severus needs another younger person to "hang out" with in the castle, and perhaps shared experiences and troubles as the new teacher will give them something to forge a friendship over. However, if Severus convinces himself that he's just another "project" of hers on a par with house elves, he'll dig in his heels... Slytherins are so difficult. It's a wonder any of them manage to reproduce. Glad Minerva made him her deputy--maybe, just maybe, he'll accept her show of trust in him as an olive branch, especially if she gets in the Board of Governors' faces about it later.Looking forward to the dreaded First Day of School!
Response from debjunk (Author of Recovery)
Ah, the dreaded First Day. We're a little ways off from that, but it does loom ahead in the distance. Hermione is totally stuck here. If she'd told him, he'd have been furious. When he finds out, he'll be furious. There's no positive outcome really. She just decided maybe there can be some healing before the explosion.
Nice to see he has his snark back.
Response from debjunk (Author of Recovery)
Yep, it's there all right. Just simmering under the surface...He's a little better. It will take some time.
Well that didn't go to bad did it? Nice update.
Response from debjunk (Author of Recovery)
It could have defnitely been worse, that's for sure.
It's great that Severus had taken the Deputy Headmaster position. Perhaps his duties as deputy will prevent him from totally ignoring Hermione once he finds out that she is the falcon to whom he has been pouring his heart out.The plot thickens!Beth
Response from debjunk (Author of Recovery)
Maybe. Of course, talking to her doesn't mean being nice to her...
So happy to see this update! I am certain that keeping her animagus form a secret will come back to bite her in the butt ---have unpleasant repercussions later.
Response from debjunk (Author of Recovery)
Yes to both of those comments! Our beloved Severus will not be pleased when the truth comes out. Hopefully, that bridge will be hurdled and overcome.

A very serene Hermione and a rather grumpy Severus, somewhat out of his depths... delicious! :o)
Author's Response: Oh, isn't though? He's in for it, and he doesn't even realize it.
That meeting went relatively well. LOLHermione on a mission? Look out, world! Another good chappie, DJ.
Response from debjunk (Author of Recovery)
Ah, you're so right! She's a do-gooder to the extreme.
Oooooh. That went well. I was very happy to see that their conversation had some great banter. I wish she didn't open her mouth at the end! At least she didn't have such an urge to gain his approval by spilling the beans on her falcon form! I'm looking forward to more interaction there! Much Love ~ Brena
Response from debjunk (Author of Recovery)
She'll keep the falcon a secret for a bit. She's not dumb. Well, maybe it's not the best idea, but it will at least give Severus an outlet for his depression.
