When Hermione had outlined the detailed study she had made of the best way to achieve the release of the House-Elves from servitude, I had to chuckle.  But when I read Lucius' response – “Good lord, woman, you are perfect for Severus... I cannot fathom how I have managed to surround myself with such swots.”  – I laughed out loud.

And they are perfect for each other.

And then Harry and Ginny, and Ron and the "skank-ho" walked into the ball!  OMG, what could Ron have been thinking?  Does his mama know?  Oh Lord!  I can't wait to see how all of this plays out.  Fun chapter!

I think Lucius has met his match.  Hermione will not just willy-nilly forgive him his past actions, but she is willing to allow him to make appropriate amends. 

I think the fact that he voiced his gratitude for what she and her friends did to save Draco's life, and how he valued Severus' friendship may have tipped the balance toward her considering just what his penance should be.

I'm looking forward to seeing how this bit of give and take between them works out.  Good job!

Poor Hermione. This is a rather tragic beginning to evening (and a dress) that showed so much promise. Hopefully, Severus will sweep her off her feet shortly (or at the very least, massage them).

It was nice to read how Hermione wrapped Lucius Malfoy around her little finger. And Ron's date is taller than he is? With broad shoulders and and athletic figure? *grins*

Ron and a "skank-ho" ... I can just imagine what Ginny's thinking about her brother's new girlfriend. Not to mention Molly, if she hasn't seen her yet, regardless of how she may still feel about Hermione. Heaven help Ron if he dares mouth off to Hermione with that bimbo on his arm, Severus will just hex him into oblivion!

I was wondering how that was going to turn out.  I like the idea of Ron's skanky ho, by the way. 

That was some tricky negotiation, although it was for selfless reasons.  This is one strange ball.  Where will you take it?

A slack jawed Malfoy.Lol.She really is perfect for Sev and I am so glad you agree. I love this story and can't see how Ron reacts to Hermione being with Sev.

I don't think forgiveness is bought here, but rather earned. What she asks of him has no finantial equal. It's a non selfish action towards inferior (at least considered as such) creatures and he will get nothing montary back in return.

This wasn't quite the 'Cinderella at the ball with Prince Charming' type of evening I had envisaged for Hermione and Severus but, never the less, it's been a very profitable one for Hermione who, it seems, remains a thoroughly decent human being!  Glad she has never forgotten those poor house elves!

However, I do hope she can catch up with Severus for a nice slow dance now ... ! :-)

I hope Hermione wearing that dress is not going to be wasted on the likes of Mr. Malfoy; please let Severus get a look in!

What does she have in mind?  Now I see why you wanted to write a ballroom scene.  You needed a way for Hermione to manipulate Lucius all while wearing a fancy dress.

Lucius is so exceptionnal a character. He really thinks she can forgive him just because he aks. *shakes head* I wish everything would be that simple.
