Hermione Granger returns to Hogwarts for a year of postwar schooling. When, supposedly, all is well for the Know-It-All, events from the past emerge and drama ensues. And where is Severus Snape in all of this? Right smack in the middle, of course! Amidst the turmoil of early adulthood and unrequited feelings, will Severus and Hermione learn to "seize the day"?
AU after HBP, some facts from DH. Mild student-teacher romance. Rated M for later dream sequences, etc. Features some non-explicit HG/DM.

Reviews for Carpe Diem, Part One
those were very satisfying lemons! i am highly curious to see what ol' sevvie will do next. thanks so much
Response from ConstantComment (Author of Carpe Diem, Part One)
Why, thank you! I, too, wonder what's up next in detention. *spooky music comes on* Heh. Thanks for your glowing reviews!! I really appreciate it.-CC
Lovely bit of lemons. Who doesn't have dreams like that about this dark man? Now Severus what are you going to do about our Hermione? Look forward to more.
Response from ConstantComment (Author of Carpe Diem, Part One)
Whew. I'm glad I'm getting a 'pass' on this first submitted lemonade, because, wow, it takes some effort not to sound unbelievably cheesy. :D Thanks for reviewing!-CC
Good to see he is looking beyond the superficial with regard to her behaviour. He cares enough to find out why. :)
I think the chapter was interesting. I'm glad Severus noticed that Hermione isn't up to par and is looking for advice.
Response from ConstantComment (Author of Carpe Diem, Part One)
Thanks so much! I was nervous about this chapter because of the M rating. I've never written a sex scene before. :/ It's good that I managed to get the point across, anyway. She needs help!!! Ack! :) Thanks for your review,CC
a great job - glad to see more SS - your fleshing out your story really well - can't wait to see more!
Great chapter. I'm glad that Snape accepts the gift for what it is and is happy about it (eventually) instead of being moody and decide not to use it.
Looking forward to the next chapter.
that was a delightful and delicious update. it's nice to see a happy sev but i did enjoy his discriptions of his clothes as he removed them! thanks so much
Awwww. It makes me feel all warm inside to see a happy Snape (especially with all the Filch-kissing he's had to do - he deserves some happiness to balance that). Here's hoping that he'll figure out the mystery gifter soon enough.
I do wonder if Minerva is going to have some suspicions regarding those two...
Isn't Calamari Italian for squid? Quite a choice, I suspect the dumplings were a safer bet.
Response from ConstantComment (Author of Carpe Diem, Part One)
Yep, but a lot of the Thai restaurants serve fried squid as an appetiser, using "calamari" probably to provide us Americans with something that sounds familiar. I don't know the word for squid in Thai, unfortunately. ;) Thanks for reviewing and for the star rating.-CC
Thank you for being the first fanfic writer I've come across who realizes that McGonagall speaks with a burr, not a brogue. Now, if only fanfic writers in general would stop having breath "hitching" (I have never seen that usage except in fan fiction), and people "fisting" instead of gripping or grasping ("fist" as a verb has only one meaning I know of, and it's X-rated), and clothes "pooling" (a vivid description the first time it's used, but not the three-hundredth). Ah well, I have my verbal quirks, too (such as over-use of parentheses). I'm enjoying the story, and you have a good writing style. I also love Constant Comment tea, Jane Austin novels (Snape really is Mr Darcy, isn't he?), and inside jokes based on extremely obscure research. If anyone anything lacks...
Response from ConstantComment (Author of Carpe Diem, Part One)
Well, Heavens to Betsy, I hope I never used "fisting" in my story! If I did, please, let me know! LoL. I'm glad you like the story. And my penname. :D Thanks for reviewing!-CC
I think Severus could be even more happier in chapters to come (hopefully). *GRINS*
I am so glad that at the end of the day, Hermione's presence had lifted Severus' spirits. When he is sad, I'm sad... Being able to spend the day with Hermione and Minerva was a wonderful thing for him, and he was able to relive happier times from his childhood with his "paternal grandmother, at her cottage in Provence."
I'm looking forward to the next chapter with glee!
Beth
LOL LOved the banter nad the inrospective dialogue. He fancies her!
and Severus and Hermione in a book shop - that was fun.
Kissing Filch on the cheek? OMG that is funny!
That really was a perfect gift. Glad he's feeling lighter than air again.
YOU SAID THERE WAS SMUT AND YOU LIED.On the other hand, d'aww. he smiled and he LIKED IT. hah. we fools who love.
Response from ConstantComment (Author of Carpe Diem, Part One)
Patience, young grasshopper. Next chapter. Neeeeext chapter.Oh, and thanks for giving away top secret information to the rest of my readers. You're a doll! ;)Thanks for reviewing! Heh.Love,CC
Awww... a happy Snape is such a sweet and rare occurence. I'm glad that you managed, quite nicely I might add, to make it a plausible occurence, too. I think Sev will figure things out later on, even though Mione seems to be good at holding her own. ^_^ Yay! Out of curiosity, what does the chapter title mean?
Response from ConstantComment (Author of Carpe Diem, Part One)
Thank you! I seem to have pulled it off. ;D Sev's not a very happy person in canon, so.... difficulty level = a lot. The chapter title means "a perfect present" in Portuguese. :) -CC
Wonder how long it will take him to work out who gave him the book. He saw Hermione with it after all! :)
Response from ConstantComment (Author of Carpe Diem, Part One)
Well, actually SHE saw HIM with it, which gave her the idea... But, I think he might figure it out eventually. ;) He's smart, right? Thanks for reading AND reviewing! -CC
Did Hermione think he would feel bad if he knew the gift was from her, or did she want him to figure it out?
Response from ConstantComment (Author of Carpe Diem, Part One)
Definitely the former. Hermione wanted it to be anonymous so he wouldnt feel obligated to give her something in return.... aaaand she might've been a little embarrassed to show her affections. ;-) Thanks for reviewing,CC
-Raises hand-I know why she did it! It's cause she wants to marry you. She likes ur flavr, Severus Snape.I sort of do too. I'll be the Shudder to your Twitch any day.
Response from ConstantComment (Author of Carpe Diem, Part One)
As always, your reviews are priceless, DWS. I like ur flavr, too. ;D Though, I had hoped all these reviews might be from more than ONE person! LoL. You're great. I'm glad you like the story--even if you were very reluctant in the first place. Haha, maybe I can get you to read stories better than mine?-CCPS - Beware of incoming smutfest in chapter latest (still in Queue!)--just a dream sequence, Hermione's POV. Lots o' fun.
Mawwiage! D'aww, Harry and Ginny.
Ahhh hahaha my favorite two people in the world are Luna and Snape when they're together. They are on SUCH different wave lengths. I really wish we'd gotten to see more of them in the books--which is to say, any of them at all. Because Snape would be all I Am Tortured, Bitter, and Towering Over Your in A Menacing Manner and Luna would be like Haha, Nargles.
I LOVE THIS CHAPTER BECAUSE THEY LIKE THE SAME TEA.
And also for other reasons, but mostly that. They're cute. Painfully cute. Severus's ShudderTwitchSneer-o-meter would be off the scale kind of cute.
But he'll just have to deal.
hahahahaha "apparently I need to work on those..."
Umm... yeah. You do.
This chapter hurt me. Both because I didn't like Ron being mean and because ouch, Hermione, no babies. This would make the he-who-doth-MAKEMEWANNAHAVEHISBABIES factor get a little complicated.
Great work, dahlin.
Okay, this is my last one tonight... I liked this chapter too, although I'd say the last one was my favorite so far.Mostly 'cause I love Molly Weasley and you can't change my mind. :)I liked the little Harry-Hermione friendship that you have here. They've got a nice little balance that's... comfortable? I guess that's the word I'm looking for.Oh, also...AHH BALLZ AND DANCING.
Response from ConstantComment (Author of Carpe Diem, Part One)
HAHA! I'm sure you know how happy this makes me. ;P Now, I dunno if I'm going to respond to ALL of your reviews you crazy girl, but know that I'm giggling uncontrollably for no good reason... maybe because I can imagine you saying them. XD You're awesome. Can't wait to see your next few reviews!-CCPS-Yes, it's very much AHBALLZANDDANCING!!!Basically an excuse for them to comingle. LoL.
"You jest."
Hermione? Jest? About school?
Uh, nope.
I love this. It's the perfect start to their... friendship. I love that neither of them is "yayy let's be besties!", but they both recognize that there is something to respect in the other-- Hermione of his skill at Potions, he of her good looks and charm intellect.
A+!
