Hermione Granger returns to Hogwarts for a year of postwar schooling. When, supposedly, all is well for the Know-It-All, events from the past emerge and drama ensues. And where is Severus Snape in all of this? Right smack in the middle, of course! Amidst the turmoil of early adulthood and unrequited feelings, will Severus and Hermione learn to "seize the day"?
AU after HBP, some facts from DH. Mild student-teacher romance. Rated M for later dream sequences, etc. Features some non-explicit HG/DM.

Reviews for Carpe Diem, Part One
I loved it. It had me melting when he asked her to sing for him. I look forward to the real thing though (ok I no, I no not yet lol) But one can look forward.
Look forward to the next chappie.
Response from ConstantComment (Author of Carpe Diem, Part One)
Indeed. Wasn't it cute? After a while I was sort of desensitized to my writing, so I'm glad it got the desired effect. Several reviewers have mentioned 'melting' already, so I seem to be on the right track. ;P Thanks for reviewing! -CC
This was such a lovely dream! There was passion, yes, but the lovemaking was tender and gentle and filled with total devotion. I wish Severus didn't feel any guilt for having such a dream about Hermione, but then he would not be the Potions Master we all adore. The song that she sang for him gives me hope and a little small window on their future:When my love and I parted, we shed no tearsFor we knew that between us lay weary years.A bird was singing on a treeAnd a gleam of sunlight lay on the sea.Parting is bitter and weeping, vain. But all true lovers will meet againFor no fate can sever my love from meFor his heart is a river and mine, the sea…”As much as this was potion induced fantasy, I can't help but think that it was more than that... a vision, if you will, a glimpse into his future, a talisman to hold onto through the long, lonely years ahead.I know that it will be years before Severus and Hermione are able to declare their love for each other, but I also believe that they share a love and a commitment to each other that is so deep they will not be able to deny it forever.Splendid writing, CC! A Thousand Points to Your House for writing such a beautiful dream for Severus.Beth

As always, your lovely review is muchly appreciated! And man, Ravenclaw is SO going to win the House cup. ONE THOU! Yeesh. ;D
mmmmmmyummy.lemons were lovely, but the "sing for me" request at the end was what really got me melting like butter on a panthat song's traditional? can hear it somewhere?on the other hand, Snape's nervousness at the beginning was hi-lar-ious! Only good ol Sevvie would get "performance anxiety" over flying solo---------------seriously - amazing, beautiful, sweet love scenebegs for fan-artthank you!!!M.
Response from ConstantComment (Author of Carpe Diem, Part One)
Oh, thanks so much!!!! I don't know where you could find the song online anywhere, but it's for sale on iTunes. Solas sings it best, I think, although it's rather plain (not how I imagine Hermione singing mostly because I imagine her singing like me) :)And I am totally tempted to do fan art... me and anatomy tend not to mix. I avoid doing realistic as much as possible. XPI'm glad you liked it! Thanks for the first review.-CC
Severus's mind is more romantic than just lustful.
Response from ConstantComment (Author of Carpe Diem, Part One)
Hee! I think so, too. Thanks for reviewing! -CC
Well, well. Draco it is... I'm not thrilled, but I'm bear it :)
I'll just be a bit more impatient for updates to get quickly to the HGSS part again :D
Besides, I'm curious how this Draco-thing (whatever it will be) will impact Hemione (how she will develop thanks to this and so on).
oh ho! i see where we're going! great update. thanks so much
Just caught back up with this again....soo worth it! You have both of them teetering on an edge , and I can't wait to start reading part deux! This story has really developed and all the characters have grown along the storypath.Brilliant, have just sent all the kids back to school after Easter hols....(a whole month off!!Arrgh!) so normality is slowly returning as sanity seeps back, ( and my waistline begins to shrink back after a month of kiddy food and chocolate) and this was just what the doc/weightwatchers ordered!Fantastic.....I'll shut up now.
Response from ConstantComment (Author of Carpe Diem, Part One)
Yayyy for rambling! :D I'm glad you liked it so much! Heehee. Thanks for reviewing!
If you're going to pair her with someone other than Severus, than I'm all for Draco. I had this eerie feeling that it might be Won-Won. *Gags a little* Of course, you might still go there, but I'm all for Draco... If you HAVE to pair her off with someone else for a while. We'd all be happy if you'd just stick her with Severus right now, you know...
Response from ConstantComment (Author of Carpe Diem, Part One)
EWWWW! *GAG* No more Ron! LoL. Nope, it's most definitely going to be DM/HG for a little bit, but you'll see Severus around all the time, for sure. XD Sorry for torturing you. *evil laugh*
Truce spells trouble for Snape. I'm glad that Draco and Hermione won't be fighting though, makes things even more interesting.
Looking forward to the next chapter. =)
Nice chapter. That was rather a lovely side to Severus.
Look forward to more.
I don't think the chapter was boring and uneventful... Draco and Hermione "buried the hatchet," and Severus came to the understanding that he loves Hermione, and Hermione had already felt a twinge in her stomach when the professor looked away when their eyes met.
We found out a bit about Severus' grandmother and that she wants Severus to have "the estate" when she is gone. Could "the estate" be Château d'Ansouis? That would be so cool!
We also found out that Severus wanted to leave teaching and open his own business and take on an apprentice. Since he as agreed (with little or no fuss) to remain at Hogwarts for another three or four years, I wonder if Minerva will allow him to take on an apprentice while still teaching? After all, he vowed to himself to do everything in his power to help Hermione. "He would apprentice her. He would mentor her. He would do whatever she asked of him from now on."
Having Hermione as his Potions apprentice would be a lovely way for him to stay in her life, and she in his, until... well, until. I think that would be fabulous.
In fact, I think this chapter was fabulous! Will we be learning more about Snape's family and his grandmother's gravy boat? I liked this chapter very much!
Beth
"Please, Severus. You’re my Deputy. And you’re sane—most of the time." ROFL! :)
Still, a nice chapter. I wonder if Minerva knows more than what she lets on? Does Albus (even as a painting) know? If so will he share that information?
Yeah more Severus!!! Can not get enough - hope you get enough time and energy to continue writing and posting - so enjoy your work!
Hopefully Hermione won't have lasting issues as a result of that potion. With time I think she will agree with Severus.
Poor Severus, will the man forever cut his nose off to spite his face?
Poor Snape! His pig-headedness causes him to realize that he may have caused more harm than good simply because he doesn't like the fact that Hermione and Harry are friends. Doesn't he remember talking with her last month about the fact that Harry and Ginny are going to get married? -shakes head- For such a smart man, he sure acts like an idiot sometimes.
Looking forward to see how you develop this storyline. =)
I wouldn't expect anything else but a rough road for Hermione and Severus, they're too stubborn for their own good. I hope that the feelings were not just a side affect of the potion making though.
Going on to read the next chapter. =)
"Miss Granger, you have yet to wave your arm incessantly in the air and dole out quotes from Potions Quarterly for an entire three months, now. There is something definitely wrong with you.”<-- I love the line. If I wasn't in class I'd laugh out loud.Looking forward to reading the next chapter right now. =)
Response from ConstantComment (Author of Carpe Diem, Part One)
Haha it would be a lot funnier if he wasn't being completely serious. LoL.
the big boo-boo! i'm not wild about a dm detour but hey, it's your story and i'm along for the whole ride. loved sev's inner argument. thanks so much
Loved it!! But you have to put Snape out of his misery soon - it is tearing me up!!! Really like your Draco though - nice foil for Snape's angst right now. Keep up the great work and can't wait to see the next post - I know where I hope it will go - but you've done a grand job of being inventive and unpredictable so far.
My heart is breaking for the Potions master. I know he is feeling that he has made terrible mistakes in the last month or so... losing his temper and summarily destroying the potion Hermione had been working on and then pairing her with Draco in class... but I don't know what he could have done differently about the dangerous potion she had been working on. As for partnering her with Draco, maybe it won't be so bad as the professor thinks.
At least Severus has fought his way through his personal disappointment (for the moment anyway) and resolved to work to help Hermione achieve her dream of becoming a potions master.
Could Hermione still be harboring feelings for her professor? Could the funny twinge she felt in her stomach be coming from her heart and not the after effects of the Pepper-Up? I'm counting on you to keep you word, and I remember this is only Part One of a two part story, and my fangurl heart will not give up on the Potions Master and the Know-It-All. Hope springs eternal...
Great chapter, CC!
Beth
mmmmm
yummy
will they be giving Hermione's potion idea another go at some point? i love it when there's research to fuel the romance. the whole ''meeting of the minds'' thing, you know.
your story is very sweet. not the ''saccharine cotton candy fluff covered'' sweet, mind you. it's realistic (as much as a fanfic in a magical universe can be) funny and smart
and Severus in love is just the way he should be - royally pissed off! after DH and the public outing of our potion master as a closet romantic, people started writing these gushy-mushy Snapes that just don't sit well with me at all. yours is brilliant!
thank you for updating regularly. this story is such a treat!
Loved it, as always! But, I do hope that our beloved couple will stop thinking so much (since they obviously let their minds work a bit to much on its own:-)), and rather open their mouths to clear away some of the misunderstandings and ideas on what they think the other fell and/or think.
I look forward to read more!
Poor Severus.
And, well. I suppose I was right in my guess then. Please don't take this as a "threat" if people say they might not be able to read on - it's your story and only you know what is right for this, so it's not like anyone (at least not I) is trying to tell you to change anything. But some of us are very firm in their OTP liking, and just cannot read other pairings. I make exceptions sometimes, but my problems with canon!Draco are such that Draco/Hermione is simply very hard for me to take, even more so than Ron/Hermione, no matter how wonderfully written, and I'm sure this will be very well written!
It's such a good story that I'll give it my best shot, especially knowing there will be SS/HG ahead again in the future, but I thought I should explain why this particular reader might just disappear at one point.
