Reviews for Charming the Scottish Garden
Hmm, methinks that Malcolm is a wee bit jealous of the time Johannes is spending with his Grandmother Siofre. awww. I found this chapter very fun, indeedy! I do so hope he'll fall in line when Siofre and Johannes finally admit they're falling in love. I'd hate to think her favorite grandchild would cause them any little bumps in the road!!!Thanks for the update!!
Response from MMADfan (Author of Charming the Scottish Garden)
Malcolm is a bit attached to her, and still likes to think he has a special place in her life -- which he does, of course. I think he is wondering if Siofre feels the need to fill a void, and he also wasn't feeling really good when he thought about the fact that he'd only been admitted to the family wards a couple years before and Johannes, whom Siofre's known such a short time, already has access -- even though he understands it rationally, he is a wee bit uncomfy with it. I'm glad you enjoyed it. I thought it was sorta fun -- a squiffy Honnie was fun to write. hee! Thanks very much!
yay! an update!! and so soon!! I'm in heaven lol. I LOVE Malcolm, have I said that? lol, he's just great, great, wonderful! I think the conversation between Siofre and Lydia was very sweet, I like their relationship, it's fun! lol. I knew from last chapter that Malcolm saw something off in Johannes, he's that clever! it seems like he doesn't have a problem with a future relationship between Johannes and Siofre, which is good, since, in my opinion, he's the favorite grandson lol. I can't wait to read more!! thanks for updating!Sam
Response from MMADfan (Author of Charming the Scottish Garden)
Malcolm's very bright, and he is very alert and notices a lot, but he's quite clueless about what sort of relationship is budding between Siofre and Johannes -- Siofre's his grandmother and Johannes is his contemporary, remember. I'm glad you loved the chapter -- and Malcolm! He is a hoot to write, though he almost seems to write himself.Siofre and Lydia may be very different sorts in some ways, but they are close. I'm glad you enjoyed their conversation. Thanks for the review! (And I have been NaNoWriMo'ing, but yesterday when I hit my word count goal, I switched over and spent some time working a bit on CSG, as well, so that's been fun, and I'll likely have another chapter ready to post in a week or so.)
I thought that the artifact was going to be special. One of a kind is even better. They so belong together. I'm guessing Malcolm spotted the artifact. I wonder if his initial reaction to Johannes and Siofre as a couple is going to be like his reaction to finding out about Albus and Minerva in RaM. No matter what I imagine he'll have something to say. Loved the way you continued the Terwilliger's story from the husband's side. Malcolm's tale was hilarious. I hope no one gives him away. Another great chapter.

Thanks,
Response from MMADfan (Author of Charming the Scottish Garden)
! Glad you enjoyed it. I think Malcolm will be safe from discovery! Especially if he's lucky enough that Terwilliger actually approaches Gertrude for advice. ;-)I have the next chapter drafted, so when I have time to polish it up, I'll post it. (NaNoWriMo'ing -- and hoping to stick with it this year!)Thank you for the review!
I do so adore Siofre and getting to follow along with her as she conducts her business is fascinating. I love how she successfully avoided MacCrain's questions and curiosity without being rude. tee hee. However, she could have been a little ruder to the silly girl at the desk at the Daily Prophet. Sheesh, she was annoying. I'm glad Siofre buzzed past her on her way to her important business. Awesome!!!Hope Gerald comes to the picnic and maybe finds a little romance with Lydia. It's great that both witches are trying to help the other one find someone. awww
Response from MMADfan (Author of Charming the Scottish Garden)
I'm glad you enjoyed tagging along with her on her rounds!Yeah, the snippy girl would have irked me, too. Siofre didn't even want to waste any of her time on her, not even enough to be ruder! lol! A little politeness and a little less idiocy and attitude from the girl, and Siofre may have at least told her she had a confidential appointment or something of the sort.It would be nice if Gerald and Lydia did get together with someone-or-other -- even each other! :-) She does admire him, as you clearly remember from the teasing Malcolm gave her when she spoke of him. ;-)Thanks! Very glad you enjoyed it!
YAY!! you have no idea how happy it makes me to see the email updates in my inbox! :D. Loved this chapter, Siofre is so wonderful and caring. I hope she won't be in trouble for this little scheme she's cooking up lol. I'm not too worried because she knows how to take care of herself. It seems she wants to matchmake everyone! lol, she needs to focus on her own lovelife ;). I loved that last bit with her thinking of Johannes, too sweet! I can't wait to see how this whole Prince thing develops and of course more on her relationship with Johannes. thanks for the update!Sam
Response from MMADfan (Author of Charming the Scottish Garden)
Thanks, Sam! She does like the people she cares about to be happy, even if she can be a bit brusque sometimes. And she is an independent one. We'll see more of what happens with the entire Prince business, don't worry! Thanks for the review! Glad you enjoyed it!
Poor Honnie, slogging his way through Gaelic! I'm enjoying meeting the fam-damily as much as he is, I think.
Response from MMADfan (Author of Charming the Scottish Garden)
I'm glad you're enjoying it! Yeah, poor Honnie, though! Thanks for the review!
Thanks for the update, it was terrific! It seems that Johannes has everything figured out. Now if only Siofre would do the same they (we) would be all set. Her marriage to Herbert sounds kind of sad. Very interested to meet Sorley. Enjoy the scenery at your sister's place. I'm originally from upstate NY and its beautiful this time of year.
Response from MMADfan (Author of Charming the Scottish Garden)
It is really, really beautiful today -- October is my favorite month. I'm really enjoying the gorgeous blue sky, sunshine, moderate temperatures, turning leaves, everything. :-)I'm glad you enjoyed the update! Johannes is very clear about things, that's true! Siofre is, too, in her own way. Thanks!
Words cannot begin to describe how happy I was to see this update in my inbox. Woooo hooo!! This was a very interesting chapter to me. I love getting inside the minds of others to see what they're thinking and how they're reacting to those around them. Johannes thoughts did not disappoint me and I'm very happy to see he wants to learn more about Sorley and work extra hard to let Siofre know he's not going anywhere. Wheeee!!!Thanks for giving me a bright spot in my week.
Response from MMADfan (Author of Charming the Scottish Garden)
I'm glad it perked up your week and you enjoyed it! It's nice ot be back with Johannes and Siofre again! :-) Thanks!
OMG! I couldn't believe when I saw my inbox, an update! YAY! I'm sooo happy! Thank you so much for updating!I loved this chapter, it's so nice that the Tyrees are accepting Johannes so well, at least the ones he's met lol. I loved it that he figured out what Siofre is trying to do and he wants nothing with other women, just Siofre, too cute! I can't wait to see how their relationship evolves. I'm also anxious about this Sorley, poor Johannes he's so worried but I love his resolution to fight for Siofre, it's so sweet! I can't wait to read more, thanks again for updating!
Response from MMADfan (Author of Charming the Scottish Garden)
Well, other than Malcolm, who found it all puzzling -- and who knows better than the others how long they've known each other, and thinks it was strange in its celerity -- the Tyrees who are just being introduced to him are very accepting. It's partly because of Siofre -- she invited people who were likely to be warm and accepting of him from the first, and she told Jacob and Zoe, Jacob's wife, already that they would be meeting Johannes and that she had joined him to the clan. You'll see Sorley soon! And Johannes is quite resolved, you're right! Thanks very much for reviewing!
I really enjoyed the beginning with Johannes alone with Multry. Your house elves are such great characters! They bring so much to the stories (and I like them so much more than the annoying ones we met with JKR ;) ) Soifre working with him in the garden was wonderful and of course I loved their lunch.
Response from MMADfan (Author of Charming the Scottish Garden)
Yeah, the canon house-elves were all extremes, weren't they? Kinda annoying! Thanks for the review! :-)
Wonderful details about his home and a perfect way to give more background. You weave it in so well. Soifre discovering the picture. Soifre's thoughts, Johannes telling her about his family. His emotions and hers. So well done. You are really a master at the slow burn ;) in the best possible way. I love how with these two being a bit of an unlikely couple - the way you move their relationship forward makes them seem perfectly matched and it's so much fun seeing them come slowly to that point. I can see why Soifre thinks he should be with a younger witch that can give him a family, but it makes me kind of sad. I love how Lydia leads the conversation.
Response from MMADfan (Author of Charming the Scottish Garden)
I'm glad you liked all the little descriptions and the build up in this chapter. It was a particularly enjoyable one to write for me, for some reason.Just a bit of trivia, which there's no reason for anyone to recognize but me (LOL!), but this is the same Bog End flat that Helena rents in LVS.
Response from OldFashionedGrl (Reviewer)
Thanks for the tidbit. (I enjoy those).
Love all the details about the history of wizzarding communities, wards, developments of areas. I adore the Mayfield Charmed Glassworks (If I'm remembering correctly they're the ones with the gizmo Filius was using at the duel). I love that everything you've created weaves together so often. The witches they bump into are very entertaining, and show more layers of Soifre's personality. Lovely. Very nice chapter. Love how they're slowly getting closer and closer.... and she's going to see his flat. :)
Response from MMADfan (Author of Charming the Scottish Garden)
Yep, you remember correctly! :-) And Caroline Egidius Mayfield is the witch whom Filius was dating in "Now is Perfect," which story overlaps time-wise with this one.Glad you like the chappie! Thanks for the review. :-)
"She would catch him and she would keep him". Sigh, what a great line. I hope siofre isn't noble for too long and grabs Johannes for her own.
When you first mentioned writing about these two I couldn't imagine them as a romantic couple. I was wrong and have fallen in love with them and Lydia. Thank you for sharing their very sweet story.
Response from MMADfan (Author of Charming the Scottish Garden)
I'm glad you gave the fic a chance, then, and are enjoying it now! I'm glad that you liked that line. And it's no secret that that's what will happen! I hope you enjoy how it plays out. Thanks! :-)
Please update. I love this story. They haven't even kissed yet. I need to see them kiss please!

Hi,
Response from MMADfan (Author of Charming the Scottish Garden)
! I'm sorry it's taken a while for me to respond to your comment. I had some personal stuff going on, and I've been away from fanfic for about a year, but I do hope to update CSG and my other works-in-progress soon! Thanks!~ MMADfan
I'd like to visit the Primrose tearoom, it sounds lovely. I'm still not clear on exactly what Siofre does but it sounds interesting! I love that Lydia is a Slytherin and is using those skills to push Johannes and Siofre together. I'm looking forward to more but am hoping for some LVS as well:).
Response from MMADfan (Author of Charming the Scottish Garden)
Thanks,
Response from MMADfan (Author of Charming the Scottish Garden)
! Glad you liked it.People call on Siofre to help them with a variety of different kinds of problems, often ones that the Ministry either can't or won't deal with, or where the people don't want to involve the Ministry. She sometimes does advocacy in front of the Wizengamot, though rarely, and she also is called upon to be an arbiter of disputes, like we saw with the Smethwycks at the beginning of the story. She uses her various talents to help people out and see that the right thing is done. She describes herself as a counselor on many matters, when she has to do so. I'm hoping to have a chapter of LVS up sometime this week -- I'm thinking it will be the next thing I post, in any case. Thanks again!
Response from esmelle (Reviewer)
Thanks for the additional information about Siofre's career. It sound somewhat like what Albus is called on to do occasionally. If I had a problem I'd like Siofre on my side. Keep cool.
I loved this chapter!, I knew I liked Lydia for a reason! lol she's so much fun, it's very nice that she gave Johannes advice, they are going to have such a lovely time on their date... I mean tea! lol. Thanks for updating! I can't wait for next chapter!
Response from MMADfan (Author of Charming the Scottish Garden)
Thanks! I'm really glad you enjoyed it and like Lydia -- she is a kind of catalyst here, isn't she? Thank you for reviewing! (I'm hoping to work on LVS this week, since it's been a while since I updated that fic. I've just been having fun with this and with "It's not the heat," so haven't found the time to work on LVS.)
Response from doralupin87 (Reviewer)
I do think she is, lol. I don't think Siofre gives her enough credit!Well you are forgiven for not updating LVS, this chapter was a delight and I really enjoyed It's not the heat, I like the pair, they are very cute together! I found you some snow! lol she's so sweet. But I do hope you will go back to LVS soon, I'm very curious about Severus and Poppy's date.
Oh what a lovely chapter! Adore the touching and the tingles! Lydia is playing quite the matchmaker. The Primrose Room the romantic music. I'm very curious what Johannes has planned for the primrose cutting. Love the background of Soifre's work or assistance with the Terwilliger's and you've definitely piqued my curiosity on the case of Simon Hapsby-Fuller.
Response from MMADfan (Author of Charming the Scottish Garden)
Lydia is certainly trying to loosen Siofre up -- and help out Johannes! Thanks for the review. I'm glad you enjoyed it!BTW, since you like the trivia, Gwyneth Terwilliger, you may have noticed, is the sister-in-law of Violet Bowen (Poppy's sister, who's married to Candace's brother, Dylan), and the baby she's carrying is Candace Terwilliger, who becomes a solicitor and pops up in LVS as Draco's solicitor and Severus's former classmate.
Response from OldFashionedGrl (Reviewer)
I wrote a response to you the other day but I don't see it now. Not sure what happened. I remember that I definitely wanted to thank you for the additional trivia. I do especially enjoy all the connections and threads that connect back in your stories! I also remember that the name Violet Bowen sounded familiar. Thanks for confirming that's Poppy's sister.
Can't say it loud enough: I LOOOVE THIS PAIRING!!!!Siofre and Johannes are just too darn cute together and they're not even together yet. haha. They seem to be dancing around their mutual attraction, maybe a liittle hesitant to say something or cross some invisible boundary. And Lydia's nto making it any easier for them. She seems to be a little matchmaker, of sorts.I can see where MInerva gets her deep sense of injuitices in the world and wanting to help others. I'm sure if her charms don't do the job completely, Siofre's reputation and the Tyree name will go a long way towards helping Gwyneth, too. Awesome update!!!
Response from MMADfan (Author of Charming the Scottish Garden)
I'm glad you like this pairing!I'm sure that Minerva does take after Siofre in many respects. Malcolm takes after Siofre, too -- particularly in his chosen line of work and his readiness to use whatever force he deems necessary. He's probably a bit more like Siofre in that respect than Minerva, although Minerva takes after Siofre temperamentally, certainly. None of Siofre's grandchildren are mental slouches, either, though Morgan is the quiet, retiring type, and he can sit behind a desk all day and be perfectly content! He also hates conflict and confrontation and avoids it at all costs. Which is one reason why we've only heard about Morgan and not seen him yet in any of the fics -- he's sitting behind his desk! LOL!Lydia likes flirting, both on her own behalf and on behalf of others! LOL! She does want her sister-in-law to relax and enjoy herself -- and enjoy the company of the "bonny gardener"!Thanks for the review! I'm very glad you're enjoying the fic & the pairing!
Great chapter! I'm really enjoying this story. Its lightness is a good contrast to the ups and downs of LVS. Thanks for the refresher on some of the family members names and relationships. I needed it. Loved the baby elves. Looking forward to more.
Response from MMADfan (Author of Charming the Scottish Garden)
You're welcome! I know that when time has passed between readings, of the various fics, it can be hard to keep the "who's who" straight. :-) I'm glad you're enjoying it. Thanks for the review!
The little elfs are cute. Even at that age, they will have more fun if they are allowed to work than if they are allowed to just play. Although I know some little human children that are very disappointed if they aren't allowed to "help" the grownups with their work. ;)It's also cute how Johannes is working so hard to impress his witch. He's very deliberate about his words and actions, and Siofre seems to realize it. I wonder if she's as impressed as he wants her to be, or if she's just amused by it?
Response from MMADfan (Author of Charming the Scottish Garden)
Yes, the little ones are excited about "helping"! Johannes is pretty deliberate in his speech, in any case, and he is trying to make a good impression on Siofre. What she's thinking at this point might be a bit of a mystery, but I think she enjoyed watching him working in the garden that morning. Thanks for the review!
really interesting premise - i look forward to continued reading. thanks for all your time and effort!

SWEEEEEET!!!!!!I love Johannes and the fact that the two elf children are going to help him in the gardens. Aww. That should be a fun afternoon.Even better is the fact that I think he's quite smitten with Siofre. tee hee. I love how this story and their relationship are developing. I am anxiously awaiting the next chapter so please update soon!
Response from MMADfan (Author of Charming the Scottish Garden)
Thanks! Glad you liked it!I'm glad you liked the addition of the house-elf children helping out. :-)Yes, I think Johannes is definitely getting there, well on his way to being smitten!I'll try to get more written soon! Thank you for your review!
that was wonderful!! thank you so much for updating. I really like Johannes, he's very cute, too bad Trudie never liked him that but they are both better off I'm sure :). I can't wait to see how this relationship develops!. Great chapter!
Response from MMADfan (Author of Charming the Scottish Garden)
Thanks! And you're welcome!Johannes and Gertrude were better off as good friends, and I think you're right that they're both better off now than they would have been if Gertrude had tried to respond to Johannes's feelings. She and Malcolm are really good together, and she loves him in a way that she never could have loved Johannes, though she does care for Johannes a lot.I'm glad to know that you enjoyed the chapter! There will likely be another update in about a week and a half or so. I'm hoping to have an update to LVS ready sooner. :-)
Response from doralupin87 (Reviewer)
that's true, Gertrude and Malcolm were made for each other, still I felt a little bit bad for Johannes in RaM when Gertrude started seeing Malcolm. I hope he has better luck with Siofre.
oh I can't wait to read more LVS, I want to know what's gonna happen between Severus and Poppy.
I absolutely love this chapter. I wish they had more time before lunch though. Both of them need that time alone. I understand why Siofre isn't taking direct action, but I wish they could just get together! You're writing and style is wonderful and I really can't wait for the next update!
Response from MMADfan (Author of Charming the Scottish Garden)
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it. :-) I've been away from fanfic for a while, but I hope to update all of my WIPs soon.
