Reviews for Charming the Scottish Garden
Oh Malcolm... LOL Love him! So nice to see/read his feelings for Gertrude in the present. Even though I know what happens from ALVS, it's nice to see the good times.
Response from MMADfan (Author of Charming the Scottish Garden)
I'm glad you enjoy seeing Malcolm again. He is definitely attached to his Gertrude! Thanks!
I took your suggestion and am reading this before the latest chapter of ALVS. I can't tell you enough how much I admire your creativity and imagination! Your original characters are so dimensional, so well described, they have such unique and fascinating personalities. With the descriptions, the dialogue, their thoughts... I have the most amazing pictures in my mind of both Soifree and Johannes. I'm so looking forward to how things develop.
Response from MMADfan (Author of Charming the Scottish Garden)
Thanks,
Response from MMADfan (Author of Charming the Scottish Garden)
! I'm glad you're enjoying all the OCs and their various personalities. It's fun for me to revisit some of the early RaMverse characters, too. I hope you continue to enjoy the story! Thanks again!
So she likes the fit of his britches, hmm? I think Malcolm is wasting his time setting up dates for Johannes!
Response from MMADfan (Author of Charming the Scottish Garden)
Yep, you're probably right! haha! Thanks!
I sympathize with Johannes regarding hating to sacrifice an evening with friends because of a blind date, though they do work out sometimes (as my husband and I will attest to :)). Quin and Malcolm's antics at the Gamp Estate had me ROFL. Thanks for the update. Hope tomorrow is a better day for you.
Response from MMADfan (Author of Charming the Scottish Garden)
Fortunately, this blind date of Johannes's was pleasant, even if it didn't lead anywhere. (I had a dreadful blind date once -- and no friends along to cushion the painfully dull evening.)Glad you enjoyed the description of Malcolm and Quin's antics! LOL!I'm sorta hopeful the next couple days will be okay! Thanks for revieiwng. :-)
I have to admit that I'm glad the blind date didn't work out as Malcolm had hoped. I'm sure he would have been happy if Katherine and Johannes had hit it off rather well, but I'm happy since I'm happiest with Siofre and Johannes. I got a giggle out of Gertie and Katherine teasing Malcolm about Chasers and being chased. tee hee. That was fun!And Johannes has a busy Easter planned but I'm sure he's more excited about seeing Siofre again, awwww.Thanks for hte update!!! I am so loving this story.
Response from MMADfan (Author of Charming the Scottish Garden)
Yes, I imagine that Malcolm was disappointed that his two friends didn't hit it off better, but he'll offer to try again! He's persistent!Malcolm enjoyed being teased, too. He never minds the attention! haha! It was fun to write Gertrude and Malcolm again. I've wanted to since "Unexpected Shower." I'll have to find another little story of theirs to tell . . . I'm glad you're enjoying the story. Thanks for the review!
I'm so glad Lydia went away for an afternoon and left Siofre and Johannes to themseves this afternoon. The afteroon tea with the rain outside seemed so cozy and warm. I think they're both beginning to fall for the other and it's putting a silly smile on my face. What a lovely way to start my weekend ...
Response from MMADfan (Author of Charming the Scottish Garden)
Johannes is certainly growing increasingly entranced by Siofre, and I think that even Siofre is appreciating her "gardener." hee! Thanks for the review! Glad I could put a smile on your face. :-)
thank you for updating so soon, what a wonderful chapter this was! I loved it, specially because Gertrude was in it lol. Leave it to Malcolm to fix Johannes up with an ex of his, that's so like him and I love the fact the Gertrude feels so confident of their relationship and love, no jealousy or nothing very nice!. ...“And only one witch has managed to catch me, to really capture me and hold me.” He reached over and took Gertrude’s hand... this is my absolute favorite line in this chapter!
oh Johannes is so very sweet, always thinking of Siofre, I hope she realizes her own feelings soon, they are perfect for each other.
Response from MMADfan (Author of Charming the Scottish Garden)
You're welcome!I'm glad you liked the Gertrude/Malcolm moments. Yes, Malcolm figured that he ought to set Johannes up with someone he knew pretty well, so to speak -- at least it was an old school girlfriend, and not a former lover, particularly a recent one! LOL!Thanks for your review! :-)
Response from doralupin87 (Reviewer)
that's right, at least it was an old school girlfriend, but it does leave me curious about something, would Gertrude get jealous if it was someone more recent? someone young, smart and pretty? don't you think it's worth to explore? LOL, I'm nothing if not insistent! Again thank you so much for updating and for answering the review, you are really wonderful! Can't wait for the next chapter. Sam
Response from MMADfan (Author of Charming the Scottish Garden)
No, she wouldn't be jealous. She's not the jealous type. If the witch were unwise enough to behave interested in Malcolm, she would be amused, annoyed, irritated, or angered, depending on the witch and how egregious her behavior was. And Malcolm wouldn't respond to another witch, so there's really no story there. :-) Or not much of one, anyway. ;-)
Response from doralupin87 (Reviewer)
Agrr! come on!, give me something here! it would be at least funny to read, Malcolm trying to scape some witch's claws, you have to admit it's funny. Fine so you can make Malcolm jealous, that's possible, right? See it's not fair, you created the characters so you have all the advantage here! really not fair to me, and I'm such a faithful reader, I am! *pouts*Sam
Response from MMADfan (Author of Charming the Scottish Garden)
Yep, Malcolm would be more likely to be jealous. Gotta keep the characters in character, after all -- or you probably wouldn't enjoy it so much. ;P But it would have to be an odd circumstance for Malcolm to be jealous, just because Gertrude doesn't have any old flames other than Albus -- not unless you count Johannes, but they were never together, despite Johannes being sweet on her for years. But maybe some new wizard who doted on her might get under Malcolm's skin, even if there was nothing going on.I do LOVE that you're such a faithful reader and enjoy the characters so much! Thanks!
Response from doralupin87 (Reviewer)
it doesn't have to be an old flame, a new one works just as well, someone suddenly interested in Gertrude, that's a story AND my birthday is coming soon *hint-hint*, the first of July *grins* I'll be 23, that's an important age right? right? LOL You don't have to thank me, it's a delight to read your stories, everything is amazing the plots, the characters, the romance, the lemons lol. Wonderful!Sam
soooo sweet!! it's a great chapter! I love the interaction between them, they are so damn cute! and the jealousy! not that Lydia seems to have a chance with Johannes but it was so sweet of Siofre to be jealous lol. Wonderful work! Can't wait for more!Sam
Response from MMADfan (Author of Charming the Scottish Garden)
Thanks, Sam! I don't think that Siofre quite felt jealous exactly, as much as she felt embarassed by Lydia's behavior. lol! She's not a jealous sort, anyway, and she's not there yet, either . . . Fortunately, her criticism just rolls right off Lydia's back.I'm glad you like the sweetness & find them cute! RL has been kind of a bummer lately, and so it's fun to write something a bit light and fun. Thanks very much for the review! New updates for this story will likely be up next weekend.
Response from doralupin87 (Reviewer)
well it seemed like jealousy to me, but I might be getting ahead of myself and the story lol. I understand about RL being hard, I truly do. It's great you can have an escape from it by writing, it's good to focus on other things. I'll wait patiently, right!, for the next chapterSam
Bless Malcolm's wee little heart. He just can't figure out that Johannes is quite taken with his grandmother. I find that adorable and silly at the same time. I can't wait to see how the double date goes.I very much like the way this story is progressing and I hope we get to see Minerva thrown into the story as well. Even a good ADMM scene would be proceless and most welcomes. Albus, Minerva, Johannes, and Siofre ... think about it!!CFP,the GLM
Response from MMADfan (Author of Charming the Scottish Garden)
CFR, GLM! hahaAlbus and Minerva will be making a bit of an appearance, but it won't be a huge one, at least as it's planned at this point. I'm glad you are looking forward to the date. I think you'll find it fun. Thanks for the review! There's more on the way!
I think Malcolm is going to be very surprised by the identity of the witch Johannes would like to go on a date with. He probably doesn't consider his grandmother as "date material". Can't wait to see who Malcolm finds for Johannes. On another note- YEEAAAH! more Malcolm and Gertrude!! They sound as sweet as ever. Thanks for getting my day off to such a nice start with this chapter:)
Response from MMADfan (Author of Charming the Scottish Garden)
I am pretty certain that his grandmother wouldnt appear on any list of dates for Johannes, even at the bottom. LOL! It will be fun to write Gertrude and Malcolm again, so I'm glad you're looking forward to seeing them. Thanks for the review!
Oh Malcolm, Malcolm, Malcolm. I have my doubts about his Yenta-qualifications. But I suppose if he landed Gertrude, he could still surprise us. ;)
Response from MMADfan (Author of Charming the Scottish Garden)
LOL! Malcolm as a Yenta! Yeah, he might not be so good at the match-making. Thanks for the review! Glad you enjoyed it!
lol! oh I love Malcolm, he's so funny and charming, so perfect for Gertrude! oh please, please say you will write their time together in the next chapter, at least a bit. That double date sounds fun, I can't wait to read all about it, imagine Gertrude doing that lol. Great chapter, I'm loving this story, I'm very curious about where is going. Can't wait for the next chapter of LVS. Sam
Response from MMADfan (Author of Charming the Scottish Garden)
Thanks, Sam! I'm glad you enjoyed seeing Malcolm again! We'll have more of him and some of Gertrude, too. I appreciate your review! There will be a chapter of LVS up very soon.
Response from doralupin87 (Reviewer)
oh I can't wait!! you know I was wondering how would feel about writing Gertrude's story? it'd be so good!!, you could pick it where The Unsentimental Arithmancer left off, yes? I promise to review every single chapter! pleaseee!!! lol Sam
Response from MMADfan (Author of Charming the Scottish Garden)
I have a lot of background on Gertrude, and I will likely write more of her story, but I hadn't considered picking it up quite that early. It's certainly something that I will think about!
Response from doralupin87 (Reviewer)
YAY!!! please do, think about it! then write about it! lol, I sound like a crazy person, right? I'm not, I promise I just love Gertrude and you are such a wonderful brilliant writer! I was going to suggest starting at her sorting but that's a bit too early, right? lol Sam
Response from MMADfan (Author of Charming the Scottish Garden)
Perhaps I could do a series of GG one-shots, sort of like the Filius Flitwick "Cheering Charms" -- have them all loosely related and telling different parts of her story. I'll let it bubble away in the back of my brain and see what happens with the idea!
Response from doralupin87 (Reviewer)
oh thank you, thank you, thank you!!! you are the best!!! yaaaaaay!
this is so sweet, lovely to know more of the persons from the RAM universe
Response from MMADfan (Author of Charming the Scottish Garden)
Thanks! I'm glad you are enjoying it!
"Hen" Nice to see a wee bit of wet coast (sorry west coast) patter. Pure dead brilliant, so it is, doll.
Response from MMADfan (Author of Charming the Scottish Garden)
I'm glad you enjoyed it! I tried to give a little taste of it there. Thanks for the review! :-)
This promises to be interesting. I like Johannes's hopefulness; it's sweet the way he has planned everything from his wardrobe to his strategy for keeping himself around.
Response from MMADfan (Author of Charming the Scottish Garden)
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it!
"He's a bonny one"; "wild but respectable"...It sounds like Siofre and Johannes are already intrigued by each other. I am wondering if this will be a story of opposites attract. Looking forward to learning more about these RaM characters and visiting old favorites.
Response from MMADfan (Author of Charming the Scottish Garden)
It might be that! I'm having fun with this little visit back into the earlier RaM universe, so I'm glad that you're looking forward to the visit! Thanks for the review!
SWEEET!!! I'm so glad you decided to work on this story. I've been waiting FOREVER for it. tee hee.I especially liked the scene between Siofre and Lydia. For some reason, their banter reminded me of Maggie Smith and Judi Dench in Ladies in Lavender. Siofre is one of my favorite characters from RaM so this is perfect. Can't wait to read more!
Response from MMADfan (Author of Charming the Scottish Garden)
Hi! Glad you were happy to see it! I hope you enjoy it. I've always wanted to see "Ladies in Lavender." I love Judi Dench. I'm glad that you liked the conversation between Siofre and Lydia. They do have fun together. :DThanks for the review!
Yay, yay, and a million times yay! You already know how much I love Johannes and that I've been looking forward to this story for a long while.Thank you. Or, should I say, CFP!
Response from MMADfan (Author of Charming the Scottish Garden)
You are welcome! Or CFR! Hope you enjoy the fic!
Dear MMADfan, I enjoyed this story immensly so far. Johannes as one of your OC's was a favourite of mine form the minute I met him in RaM. I love his humble character, his ability to listen and to make others feel comfortable despite his very sad backstory. In fact, all of your OC's are very likeable and fit extremly well into the wizarding world. I was very happy for him when he met Siofre at Malcoms 'interview' and they seemed to take to each other. I was even happier when I discovered this little fanfic.I adore the way you enable Siofre and Johannes to become closer to each other in a very subtle way. They are both reserved peoble, so their approach feels very natural. Though the story is clearly not finished I feel sure that Johannes and Siofre will find each other in the end. I would love to read more thoguh. I was looking forward to the bonfire and birthday party in anticipation to have cameo apperances of Minerva, Albus and other beloved characters of RaM. I think that would be quite interesting.
You write brilliantly and have a gift to make each scene and situation feel relatable and rich in detail and emotion. Though your universe is quite different to the original story, I love to read names that have meaning in time we meet Harry (like Prince or Fletcher).
Before this gets too long - thank you for sharing this amazing story and expanding the RaM universe. I hope you will continue someday and in the meantime I hope that I will meet one or the other character in Deaths Domain. Cheers x
Thanks for giving us more insight into Lydia's backstory. That was very intriguing. And Lockhard, you say????? Could that be any relation to our very own fruitcake, Gilderoy Lockhart???? Surely there aren't two families with men who dress like popinjays. hahaMy heart melted with the last portion of this chapter. Johannes declaration of his love and devotion to Siofre was beautiful. The descriptions of him watching her cross the field were vivid and I could see him watching her as if I was sitting with them on the cloak.I am super excited about the upcoming chapters and the development of their relationship!!
Response from MMADfan (Author of Charming the Scottish Garden)
Lockharts have a genetic predisposition for cutting and running, too! It's his great-grandfather. :-)I'm very glad that you liked that last scene so well. Thanks so much for your review! I'm glad you enjoyed the chapter!
I'm so glad you posted this! I've been struggling with the hardest greek translation and this was just the break I needed so thank you!!!At first I was a bit upset because Siofre and Johannes didn't have any time alone together but that last part, OMG! that was wonderful! so I loved the chapter :D. I also love very much the way you are creating a whole universe around the Tyrees, I love every bit of history you write in each chapter and I can't wait to read more and more! I was so happy to read a bit more about Lydia, she's such a wonderful character, she's right up there on my list close to Gertrude! lol, I don't think anybody can take Gertrude's place as my favorite but Lydia comes quite close! lol. I hope the next chapter has bit more Siofre and Johannes together, yes??? pleeeasee lol. thanks for updating so quickly!
Sam
Response from MMADfan (Author of Charming the Scottish Garden)
I'm glad the update came at a good time.I'm glad you liked the way the chapter came to a close, and all the Prince and Tyree background. Lydia is a fun character, and she's been a good one to be interacting with both Siofre and Johannes.I've got plans for the next chapter, and I hope you like them! Thanks for the review!
This is quite a good story, and I really like the original characters you have created. They have nice depth, and I enjoy the plot. Would love to read more if you have the time to finish it! Thanks for the story!
Response from MMADfan (Author of Charming the Scottish Garden)
Thank you very much!
I've been on a bit of a hiatus from fanfiction -- well, almost two years -- but I do plan to come back and to finish the stories I have in progress.
I'm glad you like Charming the Scottish Garden. It has a completed outline, and some of the upcoming chapters are sketched out, so I hope to pick it back up soon.
Thanks for your comment!
I am so loving the development of the relationship between Johannes and Siofre. It's so sweet and very touching, even in the little gestures.Malcolm and Siofre do have a wonderful relationship, too. I love that he's able to tease her a little and she takes it good naturedly. She even teases him back a wee bit which gives us insight into her funnier side. The last bit had me cracking up. Malcolm, bless his heart, was trying hard to express his jumbled thoughts to Siofre and she kept putting him off, in a round about way. And then, when Johannes convinced her to go to lunch with them ... that was priceless!!! I am very much anticipating their first kiss!!!!!
Response from MMADfan (Author of Charming the Scottish Garden)
Aww, I'm glad you enjoyed it and found it touching. They do tease each other, and he can get her to lighten up some. She's got quite a sharp wit, and can also tease a lot, but she tends to be more gentle with Johannes, even in her teasing.I'm glad that bit at the end gave you a laugh!Believe me, I'm anticipating that, too! Thanks very much!
wonderful chapter!! I so wanted to be in that room with Malcolm! because of the view of course! lol. And that breakfast! I'm hungry now! lol. I thought it was pretty funny that Siofre didn't really answer Malcolm's question and for a moment it seemed like she wasn't going to let him ask her the question lol! she's wonderful, wonderful!LOVED the last part, the accent! ha! if he only knew lol. It's so wonderful that Johannes can get her to go out and do fun things, she works too much sometimes! I can't wait for the next chapter! I'm sure the picnic will be lovely. Thanks for updating so soon, you are the bestSam
Response from MMADfan (Author of Charming the Scottish Garden)
The view outside the room or the one inside the room? LOL! Yeah, Siofre had fun leading Malcolm on his dance around the topic of Johannes, then finally letting him ask his question but never really giving him an answer. haha! Malcolm may be bright, notice things (except stuff he might find totally inconceivable!), and talented, but his grandmother's got a lot more experience! He can never really beat her. LOL!I'm glad you enjoyed the chapter! Thanks for reviewing!
Response from doralupin87 (Reviewer)
I plead the fifth? lol, let's just say I might envy Gertrude just a bit lol. Yeah, Siofre does know how to dance around a question, much like her creator does! lol I hope you are having fun doing NaNo, and thank you so much for updating!
Response from MMADfan (Author of Charming the Scottish Garden)
I am having fun with NaNo. I have spent most of my writing time today working on notes for the characters, etc., rather than adding to the word count, so I have to do a bit more writing. It's coming together and it's fun -- weird, too, to write something that's taking place in the U.S. -- and not in the HP magical universe! LOL!
Response from doralupin87 (Reviewer)
sounds like fun! be sure to let me know when you get published so I can buy a copy of your work! weird can be good sometimes, some of the best books in literature are weird ones! so you are on the right track lol.
Response from MMADfan (Author of Charming the Scottish Garden)
Well, it's more like a weird experience not to be writing the same sort of thing that I usually do -- set in the UK and in the magical world of HP. It's probably a little weird, too, in the some sense of the word! :-)
So Malcolm thinks weddings and funerals are the same? He obviously changes his mind somewhere in the future thank goodness! Loved all of the family interaction in this chapter and that we finally heard from Morgan!
How old is Johannes? When reading RaM I assumed he was in his 70s or 80s, at least older than Gertrude.
Response from MMADfan (Author of Charming the Scottish Garden)
Johannes is between Malcolm & Gertrude's ages. He's younger than Gertrude by several years. RaM took place in 1957, and Johannes had been a young married wizard with a new baby when his family was killed by Grindelwald in 1941, or thereabouts. He's a couple years older than Malcolm.Malcolm was just being funny, he thought. He's already decided he's marrying Gertrude -- he just hasn't officially asked her yet. ;DYep, Morgan finally had an opportunity to speak! I didn't know if he ever would or not, but he got out his tipsy lines. LOL!
