Reviews for Charming the Scottish Garden
Lydia needs to learn that when someone says that something is personal they mean they don't want to talk about it. She's done a wonderful job of getting Siofre and Johannes but needs to back off now and let nature take its course. I think Siofre could chase Johannes with the knife but he wouldn't run too far or too fast :) .
Response from MMADfan (Author of Charming the Scottish Garden)
LOL! You're right on both points! I love that image of Siofre chasing Johannes, and him not running too far or too fast! haha! Thanks for the review!
aaaawwwww!! this was great, wonderful, amazing! oh I LOVE it!!!! it was too much, oh she's sooooo in love, I'm one happy woman lol. Thank you so much for updating so soon, you are the best. I loved the rings, oh just hope for the future! she's a bit insecure in a way it seems, well maybe not insecure but more like cautious ( is that the right word? lol) I'm too happy to make sense right now! lol, sorry! thank you, thank you, thank you! Sam
Response from MMADfan (Author of Charming the Scottish Garden)
Siofre is probably one of the most secure witches in the RaMverse, so cautious is closer! LOL! She does love him, but she only wants him under certain conditions -- if she wanted just to catch him and keep him she could, but she wants him to really come to her first.Anyway, I'm really tired right now, half asleep, in fact, so I'm probably not making much sense, either.I'm glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for the review!
I sooooo HEART this chapter! I think it has to be one of my absolute favorites of this story. It was wonderful to be able to see inside Siofre's head where Johannes is concerned and to hear those same thoughts reflected in the words of Bridie, who has never met Honnie before. I think it was just the motivation and encouragement Siofre needed to follow through with allowing Johannes into her life in whatever capacity he chooses. Lydia, bless her heart, is good but she can be a bit annoying. The image of the rings tingling in her hand was very warming, too. I don't know why (well, I am an avid lover of ADMM for one) but that scene made me think of Albus and Minerva. Yep, I've got it bad ... but the story is anything but bad ... it's awesome!!!!!
Response from MMADfan (Author of Charming the Scottish Garden)
I'm glad you enjoyed the chapter so much! This chapter and the next are very "meaty," in a way (a vegetarian sort of way! haha! -- me being a veghead!), and I think you should like the next one a lot, as well, since you enjoyed this one. There are certain things that Lydia understands very well, and some things she doesn't always see. She's a really good friend, though, and her support of Johannes is important, too. Thanks for the review! Glad you liked it!
ooooh, you can't know how happy i am that you've updated!!! I've been waiting for an update for soooooo long lol. Thank you so much!! I did not like Siofre very much in this chapter I have to say, she was a bit too harsh with Lydia and didn't seem at all concerned with Johannes's feelings, that's so sad! I hope she was given sound advice from Bridie. I did love Lydia's attitude in this chapter, specially when Siofre told her about the personal matter advice thing, she seemed to charge to Tiree Island and have a good talking with Bridie lol. I'm excited about the wards! I can't wait. I do hope the next chapter is a bit more cheerful lol. Wonderful writing as always!Sam
Response from MMADfan (Author of Charming the Scottish Garden)
Remember that what Siofre says in this chapter is less about what she feels about Johannes and more about how she's responding to Lydia and Lydia's well-intentioned but unwanted attention to her relationship with Johannes. You'll find out more about Siofre's visit to Bridie in the next chapter. From Siofre's point-of-view, this was a cheerful chapter! LOL! She knows what's in her mind & heart even if she's not sharing with Lydia (although her plan to add Johannes to the clan should have spoken to Lydia louder than her words -- which is why Siofre changed the subject rather than let Lydia begin to discuss it & think about it more! haha!) -- so keep that in mind. :-)Thanks for the review!
Response from doralupin87 (Reviewer)
well yeah, all that makes sense, I was just a bit shocked I guess with Siofre's response, but it makes sense that she doesn't want Lydia to be guessing about her love life. And I was really glad that Siofre wanted to add Johannes to the clan that's wonderful! I hope he understand the significance of it. I can't wait to read the next chapter!Sam
I can't begin to tell you how excited I am that you're updating CSG. I have been waiting, rather impatiently, for the next update! I was a little caught off guard by Siofre's response to Lydia when they were talking about Johannes, but I can sort of understand her answers and her mood. It was a bit sad to hear her brush off the notion that Johannes was truly fretting over her and concerned about her. But, I know she's just trying to keep things in perspective and not wear her heart on her sleeves. That wouldn't be in character for her. I do, however, think it's great that she's adding him to the family wards. That's gotta be a good sign. haha. Thanks for the update and I can't wait to see what happens next!!!
Response from MMADfan (Author of Charming the Scottish Garden)
You also have to remember that she's speaking with Lydia, so her response is to her, not necessarily to her comments, and what she's feeling is clearly something she wants to keep to herself -- and her plans for Johannes, other than those bits she's choosing to share. Lydia's sharp, though, and she sees -- though she doesn't have a chance to say -- that Siofre's actions (in adding him to the clan, and not just to the wards) speak more than her words. :-)I hope that I can get back to writing. I haven't been able to write in a few weeks, just do polishing and such, so I'm going to take some time tomorrow and see if I can get back into it a bit. Thanks for the review! I hope the next update doesn't take quite as long to post! :-)
ooooohhhhh, I'm soooooo happy with this chapter! oh so happy! it was wonderful, simply wonderful! I loved that he read to them, it's so sweet that he worries about Siofre, he's a darling! I do love, love Lydia, she's so very clever!!! I do believe she'll be Johannes best partner in crime, or in love in this case lol. I truly, truly loved loved that end of the chapter, oh that kiss!! it was better than a peck on the cheek or even a peck on the lips! it was perfect for them at this stage of their relationship, I'm soooo happy!I also loved the mental image I got from Johannes walk, I could just picture myself in a place like that, hearing the ocean, feeling the breeze, oh it sounds wonderful!!Thank you so so much for updating so soon and for writing such a wonderful, lovely, romantic chapter! I can't say this enough you are brilliant!Sam
Response from MMADfan (Author of Charming the Scottish Garden)
Hi, Sam! I'm very glad you enjoyed the chapter so much. I'm glad that you found his kiss perfect. :-)I enjoyed envisioning the walk he took, and the feel, sounds, and smells.I'll be going out of town for about ten days, leaving on Friday the first, so I wanted to update before then. I may be able to update while I'm on vacation, but I may not, so don't be alarmed if you don't see anything from me for a while. Thanks very much for the review!
Response from doralupin87 (Reviewer)
you did a great job with the enviosioning and the writing it, because I actually could feel myself there walking with him, it was so nice!oh I hope you have lots and lots of fun on your vacation, don't worry about anything else just enjoy! vacations are fun!you are very welcome!
I'm so glad you updated today!I love the image of Minerva and Siofre feeding children. I don't know why but it just strikes a warm chord with me and makes me grin.I would love to have been in the sitting room with Johannes as he translated the poetry for Siofre and Lydia. I'm sure it was very pretty given his accent. Siofre's use of "Honnie' is very endearing, too. I can't wait until these two are finally together and we see sparks fly!!!
Response from MMADfan (Author of Charming the Scottish Garden)
Hi, Ang! I'm glad that you enjoyed the baby images. :-)They're making some progress, at least Johannes is!Thanks very much for reviewing! I'm glad you enjoyed the update!
I love Lydia. She is taking the bull by the horns. Good advice, patience and persistence. Its funny that Johannes asked Lydia not to tell Siofre they talked. It should be the other way around because Siofre would kill Lydia if she knew about the conversation-lol:)
Response from MMADfan (Author of Charming the Scottish Garden)
LOL! Yes, I'm sure Siofre would be absolutely appalled if she knew! Thanks for the review!
oh now I know why I like Lydia so much, she reminds me of my mother in law, she gave that same talk, pretty much!, before I started dating her son, my husband. I do love her alot!, what a wonderful chatper this was! it brought back so many good memories for me! THANKS!!!I really liked this chapter, Lydia dear heart! she's like cupid lol, and I love that she cares so much for Siofre and Johannes, she's wonderful! I can't wait to see what happens aftet this piece of advice. And you gotta love Johannes! he's so worried about Siofre that's just sweet!I loved the bit with Eileen, I always liked the character and I'm a bit biased towards Snape lol. It was so cool that you wrote a bit about her!. Thank you so much for updating!!Sam
Response from MMADfan (Author of Charming the Scottish Garden)
I'm glad you love Lydia so much -- it's funny that she reminds you of your mil!It was fun to put in some stuff about Eileen. I figured that it would be apt here, given that Johannes taught at Hogwarts during the time Eileen was in school and she's related to Lydia. It was fun to imagine their different reactions to her. You're welcome! I've sure been posting a lot this weekend, and I'm glad for the reviews! :-) I'll be out of town for a while at the end of September/beginning of October, so posting will slow for a while -- though I do have a bunch of chapters written for the three stories, so I may be able to update while I'm away, depending. Thanks again!
Woo hoo! It's about darn time Johannes admitted to someone that he has more than friendly feelings for Siofre. I'm so excited that Lydia finally had a chat with our wizard and now maybe he'll feel more inspired to persue her. wheee. Those should be fun chapters to write and even more to read. haha. I am super excited about their courtship and romance. I'm sure you'll do a wonderful job. I hope we'll get to see Albus and Minerva's reactions to the romance between Johannes and Siofre. wink wink
Response from MMADfan (Author of Charming the Scottish Garden)
Hi! I'm glad you like that Lydia decided to take a more direct approach here! I do hope that the coming chapters are fun for you all to read! Thanks very much -- I really appreciate the reviews! (And yes, you might just see a bit of that!)
Aww my heart is breaking for Siofre. She is finally admitting to herself how she feels about Johannes and thinks she has to give him to someone else. I love that she said her meal at Johannes' was the best date she has had. Just the fact she admits its a date is progress! I want to give her a hug and tell her not to fear - everything will be as right as a rainbow in the end. Loving the progression of this story. Thanks.
Response from MMADfan (Author of Charming the Scottish Garden)
Thanks, Esmelle! I'm glad you liked it. I think that Siofre is both happy and a bit sad at the same time, and she's quite used to being more in control of herself and her emotions -- not tomentino that she's also quite used to being in charge of things in general. So this is different for her, and very unexpected at this point in her life. Thanks for the review! :-) And I hope that all is right as a rainbow with you, too!
What a lovely welcoming home present to me. haha. I went on vacation to the HP theme park and I return to find a truly wonderful HP'ish related update to read. AWESOME!!!Siofre is such a wonderful and richly developed character. I truly enjoy the way you write her and how she's so concerned with everyone else, making little time for herself. However, since Johannes has taken an interest in her, her thoughts are beginning to turn more inward. I love that. I am truly anxiously awaiting the next chapter. It's a slow pace you're setting for their romance which I find plausible, even if it's killing me inside. haha.CFP,the GLM
Response from MMADfan (Author of Charming the Scottish Garden)
Hi! I'm glad you enjoyed this little bit of HP'ish-ness! :PI've liked Siofre's character since writing her in RaM, and always "knew" more about her than ever made it into that fic, so it's really fun for me to write this story and share it with you. I'm glad you enjoy her character, too. :-)Thanks very much for the review! I appreciate hearing from you!
YAY!! an update!! and soo soon! I'm happy! this chapter was great, I love Lydia she's so wonderful to Siofre, and she's cute when she's worried lol. I hope Siofre doesn't feel guilt or something about Johannes! that wouldn't be good! Thanks for updating! I hope you are right as a rainbow! lol Sam
Response from MMADfan (Author of Charming the Scottish Garden)
Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed the chapter. :-)(S isn't feeling guilty, and hasn't anything to feel guilty about -- she's meant to be contemplative here.)Thanks for the review! It's nice to know when people are enjoying a fic and look forward to updates. :-)
YAY!!!! oh this chapter was lovely!, my favorite so far!!! They are so cute together, I can't wait to read about their afternoon together, I've always found rain to be romantic so I'm loving it that it's raining hehehe!.I loved, loved the scene when he looks up at her across the chamomile, oh it was beautiful! and he cooked for her! that's sooooooooooo romantic! and she is falling for him YAY!!! *dances* I'm so happy!
Thanks for updating, you are brilliant!!
Sam
Response from MMADfan (Author of Charming the Scottish Garden)
Thanks so much -- your enthusiasm has me smiling!I'm glad you loved that little scene where Johannes looks at her over the bed of chamomile. :-)You're welcome -- Glad you are enjoying the romance!
I am doing a happy dance here. I love everything about this chapter. The imagery of Johannes looking up over the chamomile and seeing Siofre looking back ... truly breathtaking. I loved his idea of taking her on a lunch date. Very inspired and romantic, even if he wasn't thinking of it in those terms. And I'm glad she agreed to accompany him to lunch. That moment of hesitation nearly caused my heart to flutter. tee hee.Overall, a very romantic chapter and I can see them moving slowly together, wheee!!!
Response from MMADfan (Author of Charming the Scottish Garden)
I'm glad you enjoyed the chapter. Happy dances are good! :-)I'm sure that Johannes was trying to do something special and at least a little romantic for her, so I'm glad you liked it -- and that it gave you a little flutter. :DThanks very much for the review!
Lots to comment on. First, what a very moving chapter. I could feel Johannes' heartbreak as I was reading about it. I am enjoying how their relationship is "evolving". Some of the strongest bonds are developed by the kind of emotional sharing and openness these two are engaging in. I like the way you put a couple of funny moments in to balance the heaviness, in particular Malcolm's scolding Siofre for cramping Johannes' style and Lydia's disbelief at Siofre introducing him to Lachina. Good for Lydia for pointing out to Siofre that she is basically picking out a younger version of herself for Johannes. Interesting "ritual" they have on the island to help infertile couples. I read "Eat, Pray, Love" and something like that was mentioned in the "Love" section, although it involved the woman. And finally, I assumed Siofre was a brunette like Minerva. Finding out she is/was a redhead fits more with her personality. Thank you.
Response from MMADfan (Author of Charming the Scottish Garden)
I'm glad that you enjoyed the chapter. You're right that their emotional sharing is conducive to developing a closer relationship between them. I hoped that the light moments would balance out the sadder notes in the beginning of the chapter.Yes, Siofre had red hair, not the black hair of her granddaughter. It may have been mentioned in passing somewhere in RaM, all those eons ago when I wrote that, but I'm not sure. I thought it might be a good detail to throw in somewhere, and this seemed a natural place for it.Lydia did try, didn't she, to make certain points, but Siofre was obstinate -- at least in her words! Thanks for the review! The next chapter is in the works, but the past few days of RL have been roughish, so my time and energy for writing has been limited by that. I hope that I'll have another chapter up sometime this weekend, though. (And I'd love to get another chapter of LVS written, as well, but we'll see how that goes!)Thanks again!
That Malcolm. Chasing after Chasers, Seekers and whatever else was lurking about. There's a joke about chasing after peat and heather from the Corries, if you've ever heard of the Scottish folk singers who were big in the 1960s.Oh, and Katherine didnae have a chance really, did she? Johannes is smitten elsewhere, even if he hasn't figured it out all the way yet!
Response from MMADfan (Author of Charming the Scottish Garden)
Yep, I've heard the Corries. :-) And at one point, Malcolm might have equally chased after Pete and Heather! haha! Sorry for the bad puns -- I'm just a bit punchy after a couple of long, long days and a really nasty sinus headache that just won't go away. Nope, Katherine didn't have a chance, but at least it wasn't painfully disastrous!TTFN! Thanks! Glad you liked it!
Johannes is such a sweet character. It comes across that it still hurts to speak of the wife and daughter he lost, but it's nice that he trusts Siofre enough to share the good and the bad with her."young enough to be your son" had me absolutely laughing... oh, and Siofre was watching his butt wasn't she?CFP!
Response from MMADfan (Author of Charming the Scottish Garden)
Oh, yeah, she was appreciating that area of his anatomy! LOL!Glad that line had you laughing! :-) He does still feel their loss acutely, and it's something that he doesn't normally speak about, so he does show a lot of trust in her.CFR! -- I'm glad you enjoyed the chapter!
I don't know whether to have a sqeee moment or to wipe away the tears from my eyes. This was such a touching chapter, for so many reasons. I love that Johannes took the time to tell Siofre about his wife and child and to show her their pictures, especially the one of his little girl. That was so sad. I think it shows that he's trusting her with his most cherished memories and that's got to be a good thing. Also, it was very touching that Siofre admitted to him that she worries about him and feels guilty about coercing him to stay at the estate, though there's hardly much encouragement needed. lolAnd the squee moment ... yeah that's thanks to Lydia. It's about time someone told Siofre that Johannes fancies her and maybe now she'll start to see his actions in a new light. I'm anxiously awaiting that first kiss and canoodle!!!Sorry I'm just now reviewing. I've been out of town this past weekend and the first day back at work was a nightmare. UGH!CFP,the GLM
Response from MMADfan (Author of Charming the Scottish Garden)
So often that first day back after being away for a few days can be brutal! Glad you survived!I'm glad that you liked Johannes sharing his most personal memories and emotions with Siofre. I am sure she appreciated the trust and closeness that demonstrated, even if she is thinking about introducing him to Lachina! Lydia certainly tried to be persistent and persuasive. Siofre is very used to doing what's best for everyone else, to considering the big picture, and often putting her own needs and preferences aside, so we'll see how that all proceeds. Thanks very much for the review! :-)
I'm with Johannes when it comes to pronouncing Aoibheann, Siofre was hard enough:). This was an almost perfect first date. All it needs is to end with a kiss. I love the way Siofre really opened up to Johannes about her worries and her relationship with her husband. I also like how she got him to stay for dinner and show her his apartment. She gets what she wants-look out Johannes:). Another great chapter. Thank you.
Response from MMADfan (Author of Charming the Scottish Garden)
It's not the pronunciation that's hard, really -- they're very easy to repeat when you hear them -- it's the spelling that is completely unintuitive! Well, I suppose we're all pretty used to seeing "Sean" and "Sinead," so we can extrapolate from those, but still, the orthography can be confusing.Yep, and she gets him to open up to her a lot, too. Learning more about his family and letting him feel comfortable with his emotions was really positive for them. And now she knows that his flat isn't cold and barren and he knows that the house feels empty to her without him there. All in all, a good date!
LOL what a funny, funny chapter!! God! I LOVE Lydia! she's the best!. Adopt him indeed LOL, oh my! poor Siofre has no idea, does she? or maybe she does, denial is not just a river in Egypt right? oh anyway, I really liked this chapter, it's very funny and sad, it was sad the first part. Poor Johannes, it was so unfair what happened to his family, BUT he's got Siofre now, well not yet! lol. Is Siofre going to be one of those people who take a LONG time to come to terms with their feelings and leave poor Johannes waiting a LONG time?? I don't know if I can take it! lol Thanks for updating, you have no idea what great timing you had, so THANKS!! Can't wait for more!Sam
Response from MMADfan (Author of Charming the Scottish Garden)
Hi, Sam! Very glad you enjoyed it! It did start out a bit sad, but I'm glad you enjoyed the funny bits later in the chapter.I think you'll appreciate the progress of the story -- I hope so, anyway! Thanks very much for the review! I'm glad the timing was good for it. :-)
Response from doralupin87 (Reviewer)
of course I'll appeciate the progress, I just like to try and get stuff out of you, which never ever happens, but oh well! I try! LOL. Yes, it really funny, speacilly Lydia's part lol, she's wonderful! Even if the topic of their conversation was a bit sad, the having kids part only! specially for me after the news I got this week, but I did enjoy it and I laughed alot! I don't think Siofre stands a chance with Lydia in Johannes's side LOL. Thanks again, you've made my weekend!Sam
I had forgotten all about the quadruplets! What fun to work in the garden and make it your own secret hidey-place... well, okay later, when they are older.
Response from MMADfan (Author of Charming the Scottish Garden)
Ah, yes, the litter! They'll have lots of fun growing up there.TTFN!
I can't stand wearing gardening gloves either, unless I absolutely have to!OK, so I am determined to catch up my reading and reviewing... and this lovely story is shorter than LVS, which means I'm less behind-er. *sigh*Still love Johannes, and I always will.
Response from MMADfan (Author of Charming the Scottish Garden)
Shorter with shorter chappies, too -- and lighter reading -- so quite a sensible place to begin! :-)Glad you still love Johannes! I've been enjoying writing him. Thanks for the review!
I don't know whether to SQUEEEEEEEE or siiiigggghhhh! This was such a lovely and warm chapter. If these two don't get together soon I'll expire from anticipation. lolTheir conversations are so fluid and easy. It's like they've known each other for decades, which is very nice. I loved it when he called her Sheffy and she complimented him on the way his accent sounded saying it. Awwwww. And the story of Siofre's parents meeting and marrying was so romantic. I found the conversation about Siofre's last husband to be very interesting. The idea of Johannes not being so practical and Albus declaring it so ... tee hee.Overall, a lovely chapter and I'm anxiously awaiting a first kiss or some sort of romantic gesture. Hurry up woman!!!!!
Response from MMADfan (Author of Charming the Scottish Garden)
The pace of true love is its own! It can't be rushed! But it also shouldn't be obstructed or delayed! (Although that can provide some drama or lead to a lovely heartbreaking tragedy! Think Romeo & Juliet! But this isn't a tragedy!)I'm glad you enjoyed the chapter! Siofre really opened up to Johannes a lot about her family and her own feelings. Thanks very much! (I think I'm working on the next chapter of LVS next -- depending on the fickle mood of my Muse! But I hope it won't be too long before the next chapter of CSG.)
Response from MMADfan (Author of Charming the Scottish Garden)
Do you think I could have used another exclamation point or two in that reply?
awwww, I didn't want to the chapter to end! this was so sweet!!! I loved this date, it was perfect!. I can't believe all the history you are writing, it's quite amazing!. It's so very sweet of him to offer to be her confident, they are so perfect! I can't wait to read more! I can't even imagine them going to his place, that's gonna be funny!! maybe I can imagine Malcolm going there to take Johannes out and finding his grandmother! LOL Great work!Sam
Response from MMADfan (Author of Charming the Scottish Garden)
I'm very glad you thought their date was perfect! :-)Thanks!
