Reviews for Charming the Scottish Garden
Thank goodness for Lydia or Siofre might have given Johannes away to another witch :). I find the conversations on which couples can and can't share rooms amusing. Its ok for Malcolm and Gertrude if they want, but poor Albus had to stay on the other side of the house. Is Siofre forgetting her daughter had a child out of wedlock? Best to have a lot of rooms available and let everyone sort themselves out. I so want to be a fly on the wall at the Primrose Tea Room. Thank you.
Response from MMADfan (Author of Charming the Scottish Garden)
Like Siofre says to Johannes early in the story, she has her opinions, and people hear them! Even when she doesn't necessarily express them verbally. LOL! (Besides, that was over a year before, and she'd only just learned about the relationship between AD & MM, aside from any reservations she may have had.) You notice that for this trip, Minerva's staying w/ Morgan & family, and Siofre presumes that Albus will stay down there w/ Minerva if he shows up.I'm glad you enjoyed the chapter. And the title of the next chapter is "The Primrose Room." So be prepared to buzz about! (And look out for fly swatters! LOL!)Thanks for reviewing!
Another wonderful chapter. I like that Lydia has planted the seed that Johannes is sweet on Soifre. That's a start.
Response from MMADfan (Author of Charming the Scottish Garden)
Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Great chapter! I'd say they're more than a little sweet on each other.
Response from MMADfan (Author of Charming the Scottish Garden)
Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed it! :-)
Hi!, oh this was wonderful! I've had a terrible day and I've been so sick, this is just what I needed, I feel better now!. They are so so sweet! All three of them! lol, I do like Lydia very much. It's so funny that Siofre is trying to fix him up with someone else LOL. I do believe she's in denial or just plain blind! I hope that after everybody arrives at the state Siofre and Johannes still have some time alone, because it seems that things are going to be very busy for Siofre and Lydia. I can't wait for their date, I hope something great comes of it! At least realisation on both of their parts lol. Thanks for updating, it really made my day. Thanks!!Sam
Response from MMADfan (Author of Charming the Scottish Garden)
I'm glad that the chapter helped to cheer up your day! I guess it was very good timing!I'm glad you like the dynamic among them all and that you like Lydia.Things certainly will be busy for a while! Thanks for reviewing -- I'm glad that the update helped make you feel better!
Response from doralupin87 (Reviewer)
it did, so thank you so much. There are little things theses days that make me smile or laugh, chemotherapy does that I suppose, so thanks for making me smile and laugh, specially at Siofre's "planning" for Johannes future, that cracked me up, she's so smart and mature yet so naive when it comes to Johannes LOLSam
Response from MMADfan (Author of Charming the Scottish Garden)
I really appreciate your taking the time and energy to let me know that the fic is cheering you up! It means a lot to me. :-)
I am sooooooo excited!!! It's about time Lydia finally told Siofre what she was seeing ... what is so obvious to the rest of us. lol It was fun to watch Siofre trying to plan Johannes love life but never considering herself as a candidate for his affections. I do believe, though, she's the only one who has caught his eye.I'm looking forward to reading about their tea date so don't make us wait too long for the next update!!!!
Response from MMADfan (Author of Charming the Scottish Garden)
I'm glad you liked that -- and Lydia's little hint, well, more than a hint, to Siofre!Next up: the Primrose Room. :-) I hope not to keep you waiting too long for it!Thanks for reviewing!
In the last chapter I somehow didn't really see what a tell it was that Soifre confided such personal information about Lydia to Johannes. It does say so much about this character you've created. The letter to Soifre was hysterical and tells so much about both Bertrand and Sally's personalities. Can't wait to see them more. Also, I learned what a coppice is. I am a little clueless on this line though. "They ne’er seem sair couthy at our ceilidhs." I so enjoy the Soifre's brogue that I can hear so clearly in my mind when I read, and usually I'm good at understanding it, but I missed this one.
Response from MMADfan (Author of Charming the Scottish Garden)
I don't usually even transliterate Siofre's accent, relying more on the reader's "mental ear" to hear the pronunciations (I personally find it rather distracting to read something when almost every word is written the way it's pronounced by whatever accent the character has, and I think I would find it tedious to write everything in "Scots English"! -- in fact, it would likely drive me totally batty to try! haha!), but sometimes I throw in the odd expression here and there. You may also notice that Siofre tries to speak with less vernacular and more "correctly" when she's speaking to Johannes (to whom English is a second language, and who speaks with a German accent) than when she speaks to Lydia. Anyway: "They ne’er seem sair couthy at our ceilidhs." = "They never seem very comfy at our ceilidhs.""Ceilidh" is commonly used in English (well, depending on your experience, I suppose! haha!), and is pronounced "kay-lee" -- it's a sort of party w/ lots of music, drinking, and such. Thanks for the review -- I'm glad you're enjoying it!
Response from OldFashionedGrl (Reviewer)
You do an excellent job with incorporating the accents enough to be totally understandable for the reader and still remind us of the background of the person speaking. I think I just am unfamiliar with this phrase. Another fun new word for me to learn "cailidh."Thank you.
Ahhh, so Johannesn is persuaded to stay to dinner and overnight rather than go to his flat as usual - and Soifre did the persuading. =) Love it. Also, so nice to get more background on Lydia and the Prince family.
Response from MMADfan (Author of Charming the Scottish Garden)
Siofre persuaded without persuading, and Johannes was persuaded without much resistance! lol!Glad you liked the background info. :-)
Sweet. Another update!!I was very moved by Siofre's response to seeing Johannes bending down to speak to the house-elf. I think it showed that he has a great respect for the little creatures and wasn't just trying to score brownie points with Siofre. Awwww.Lydia sure was excited to her about her son and daughter in law coming home. She practically jumped out of my computer screen with her enthusiasm. haha. It's so sweet to see Johannes and Siofre halway flirting with each other. I can't wait until they go to tea and then their relationshp progresses. Wheeeee!!!
Response from MMADfan (Author of Charming the Scottish Garden)
Yes, Johannes does have genuine care and concern for all creatures, and he doesn't feel as though he's superior to a house-elf just because he's a wizard/human. Siofre was touched by the rather uncommon sight.haha! Yes, Lydia is far less restrained in her enthusiasms than Siofre is! Halfway flirting is a good way to describe it. A little tentativeness there! Thanks for reviewing! Glad you enjoyed it!
where to begin? wow! what a wonderful chapter!. Lydia is so lovely and wonderful and charming, oh she's great! I'm so glad her son is coming back. I think Siofre might be in denial about her feelings for Johannes? or maybe they aren't quite that strong yet, I can't wait to find out. "Siofre felt herself uncharacteristically fighting a warmth rising in her cheeks, but she nodded." LOL! OMG! she can blush! lol. Thanks for updating so soon, you are THE best!Sam
Response from MMADfan (Author of Charming the Scottish Garden)
Yep, Siofre can, on a very rare occasion, blush -- or ALMOST blush! lol!I'm glad you're still enjoying Lydia. She is a fun character to have interacting with the others. Thanks for the review, Sam! I appreciate it!
Response from doralupin87 (Reviewer)
you are very good at not answering questions! lol. I'll have to wait I guess, to see how Siofre copes with her feelings. I wish you would write more Gertrude and Malcolm, I miss them!!! Sam
Johannes and Siofre are so cute together. SQUEEEE!!!!I am loving the way their relationship is developing, slowly but sweetly. It's so easy for the reader to see how much time they want to spend together and yet neither of them is ready to step out on that limb and say so. tee hee. It's adorable how Siofre told her house-elf to take care of Johannes when he's in Hogsmeade. awwwThanks for the update. The GLM is VERY HAPPY!!!
Response from MMADfan (Author of Charming the Scottish Garden)
Ooo, I'm glad Johannes and Siofre are squee-worthy! Thanks very much!Yeah, they do want to spend more time together, but neither wants to be obvious about it. I'm always happy to make the GLM happy! ;)Thanks for the review!
Oh my, Lydia has quite an interesting back story. What's up with her son? Interesting conversation about the English purebloods; love how Johannes defended Gertrude and her immediate family. Also love how Siofre got Johannes to stay the night at the estate and is taking care of him with the provisions. Thank you.
Response from MMADfan (Author of Charming the Scottish Garden)
Thanks,
Response from MMADfan (Author of Charming the Scottish Garden)
! I'm glad that you liked learning more about Lydia. Yes, Johannes is staunch in his support of Gertrude. Siofre and Johannes both got what they wanted at the end without making it obvious to the other that they did -- Johannes didn't take much arm-twisting to get him to stay, did he? Thanks for reviewing!
awwwww!! great, great chapter! loved knowing more about Lydia, I do like her a lot!. I wonder who got her pregnant?? I'm curious now! lol, pretty curious all that business with her son too.
Loved the Siofre/Johannes dynamic!, they are so cute and sweet! awww I get so happy and excited whenever he calls her Siofre, lol crazy! I can't wait for their date! and everything else that's coming. Thank you for updating!
Sam
Response from MMADfan (Author of Charming the Scottish Garden)
Hi, Sam! I'm glad you enjoyed hearing more of Lydia's story. You may learn more later! :-)I'm glad you like Siofre and Johannes and think they're cute together. You're welcome for the update -- hope I'll be able to update again soon. Thanks for the review!
It sounds like Johannes and Siofre have a date for Saturday:). I get the impression that Siofre either doesn't approve of Minerva's relationship with Albus or doesn't think it will last. Interesting.
Response from MMADfan (Author of Charming the Scottish Garden)
Yep, I'd say that they have a little date! :-)Siofre does have her opinions about things, that's for sure! ;PThanks for the review! Hope you're having a good weekend!
This was such a lovely chapter. I was grinning from the time I started reading until the close, and then I wanted MORE!!!!I like the idea of Siofre giving Minerva the cottage so she could have a place of her own. I'm sure she'll share it with Albus but I'm glad Siofre's giving it to Minerve for her birthday instead of Malcolm. It's nice that she's doing something lovely for her granddaughter.I am IN LOVE with the shell house. That was such a romantic story and I do hope Siofre and Johannes will be visiting there again ...SOON ... and under different circumstances, wink wink! The sparkle in Siofre's eyes and the exhilirating feeling by Johannes are both great signs of what's to come. Wheeeeeee!!!Thanks for starting my day off on a wonderful note!!! Now, get back to writing b/c I NEED MOREEEEE!!!
Response from MMADfan (Author of Charming the Scottish Garden)
I am sure that Minerva will appreciate having the cottage and a few acres of her own, especially when it's all fixed up. The island's nice, but not particularly practical -- even though it can be lovely to be entirely cut off from the rest of the world sometimes! LOL!I'm glad you liked the shell house. They were quite the rage (well, sort of! haha!) back in the 18th c., and it seemed it would be a nice addition to the Tyree lands and the Tyree family history. It is soooo bloody hot here, I don't know how much I'll feel like writing today -- not that yesterday was much better, actually -- and the next few days promise to be nearing 100 degrees, between 95 & 99 (Fahrenheit -- that's between 35 and 38 C), so if I'm not a complete limp rag, I'll try to write some more.
Another wonderful chapter. You are so good to describe the landescape, and with assistens of lovely pictures from Google it is very much alive in " my inner eye". Siofre and Johannes are so sweeet together
Response from MMADfan (Author of Charming the Scottish Garden)
Thank you,
Response from MMADfan (Author of Charming the Scottish Garden)
! I'm glad that you liked the landscape and that it came alive for you! :-)Thanks for the review!
Well they're on a first name basis now. That's a start. ;) Again, I love the details of the Tyree estate and the way you use that to reveal more about the characters and their backgrounds. I love Johannes' thoughts about Minerva and her possible reaction to Soifre's offer. I'll check out the Sorting of Susie Sefton later this week. I don't know why I keep forgetting about that one.
Response from MMADfan (Author of Charming the Scottish Garden)
Yes, moving on from "Madam Siofre" is a start! hee!I'm glad you like the details of the estate and such. Thanks very much for the review! (And I think you'll enjoy the Sorting of Suzie Sefton when you get to it.)
I was going to guess that Siofre was a lawyer but it sounds like she is a jack of all trades. Johannes worrying about Soifre's safety when out with Malcolm was very sweet. Thank you.
Response from MMADfan (Author of Charming the Scottish Garden)
She does do some soliciter work, you're right about that, but you're also right that she's something of a jack-of-all-trades. She's not very adept with leaping toadstools, though! haha!Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks!
Wonderful chapter! oh it's just what I needed after the day I've had, thank you so much!. I have to say I'm loving this story, I loved RaM and all the others, but this one is so fresh and sweet. Johannes is so cuutee! he blushes alot poor lad! I still can't figure out if Soifre is aware of Johannes feelings or not, but they are very sweet pair, I can't wait to see how this develops.
Sam
Response from MMADfan (Author of Charming the Scottish Garden)
I am very glad that it perked you up after your day! I'm glad I decided to post it tonight rather than waiting. It's great that you're enjoying the development of their relationship. Thanks very much for reviewing! I appreciate it!
Thanks for updating so quickly for us. There are more GLM's out there than you realize.Lydia and Siofre are a hoot together. I can see where Minerva gets some of her personality traits, tee hee. But I will admit that I look forward to reading about Johannes and Siofre the most. They're slowly coming together and it's very sweet to watch them interact with one another. I'm very happy they're spending some time together away from the house and she's showing him different parts of the estate. Looking forward to the next update!
Response from MMADfan (Author of Charming the Scottish Garden)
You're welcome! I'm glad you are enjoying it. Yes, Siofre and Minerva do share some things in common! Johannes and Siofre are getting closer. I think she's even becoming fond of "the gardener"!If we're lucky (and I don't become overcome by blue funk), we'll get another chapter in a a day or two. Thanks for reviewing! It's great to know that there are some GLMs out there for a bit of the RaMverse. :-)
Definitely a friend. I was lamenting to myself today that I was all caught up on all your writing. So glad for a new little tidbit to read so quickly. It's great to learn more about the Tyree family and I'm enjoying the budding relationship between Johannas and Soifre - though I'm very much looking forward to the point when things begin to heat up a bit. ;)
Response from MMADfan (Author of Charming the Scottish Garden)
It will be a long, slow burning fuse. With fireworks at the end of it! LOL! If we both have some luck and RL isn't too unpleasant this week, there may be another chapter up in a day or two. Glad you enjoyed the chapter and that it made up for being all caught up with everything! Speaking of which, I don't know if you have read "The Sorting of Suzie Sefton," the other LVS fic, or not. It's short, but it might stave off some withdrawal! haha!
it is a lovely story and it is wonderful to follow all those nice persons. I love that you give yourself time to slowly develop the romance to come and the lovely description of the garden. Not beeing english-speaking I also learn some new plants as i "google" when I meet one I don't know, so this is also a learning experience
Response from MMADfan (Author of Charming the Scottish Garden)
When I am reading a story about a new romance, myself, I always enjoy the development of the relationship, and ones that skip that bit and go straight to the bedroom always disappoint me somehow, if you know what I mean. So I'm glad you are enjoying seeing the characters get to know each other and fall in love! It's always great to learn new words in one's second language! I'm glad you're having fun with the new vocabulary! Thanks very much for the review!
YAY!! I get so very happy everytime you update, it's rather sad of me lol. Great chapter, I love the easy relationship they have and I can't wait to see it grow into something more. I like very much your descriptions, it seems like a wonderful place to live and the gardens are coming along quite nicely. As much as I love Soifre and Johannes, I'm enjoying Lydia very much! allergic to maths! that's hilarious!. Thanks for updating, can't wait for more!. Sam
Response from MMADfan (Author of Charming the Scottish Garden)
Thanks, Sam! I'm really glad you liked the chapter, and especially that you are enjoying Lydia! :-)Thank you for reviewing!
Awww... Soifree seems lonely. (somehow I think you might just fix that ;)Johannes is very taken with her indeed. So enjoyable watching it all unfold. Lydia is great fun. Wonder what's up with those pipes.
Response from MMADfan (Author of Charming the Scottish Garden)
Siofre misses having family in the house, and she worries that there won't be anyone there after she and Lydia die. She's very glad that Morgan and his family are moving to the estate.
Lovely evening. Great to see Gertrude with Malcolm. Love the story of Malcolm and Quin's desruption. All those characters from Gamp family gatherings come flying back. So fun to see them referenced again!
Response from MMADfan (Author of Charming the Scottish Garden)
I'm glad you like the glimpse of the extended Gamp family and their get-togethers. Yeah, Quin and Malcolm together just have too much fun! lol! Thanks for the reviews!
A lovely gentle unfolding of their friendship. Soifree wanting to spend time with him, him wanting to tie himself more to the gardens and by extention her. Beautifuly done.
Response from MMADfan (Author of Charming the Scottish Garden)
Thank you! So glad you like it!
