Apart from it being an artefact of considerable antiquity, no one at the Department Of Mysteries could determine what it was. It was taken from the body of a slain Death Eater at the first fall of Voldemort and was, undeniably, of magical origin. Unable to extract its secrets, and unwilling to risk further experiments, the Unspeakables consigned it to the vaults. Or so they thought. Only one wizard may provide the answer, but he has no idea of his connection to it.

Interesting start. I always enjoy the blending of Arthurian legend into HP stories. I look forward to reading on.

Oh, I hope that truly is Tobias! The dialogue alone between him and Severus would be incredibly fascinating, and through Hermione we'd be able to learn so much about Snape's past/childhood! Oh, please, please be Tobias (though I feel guilty for wanting this despite how painful it'd be for Severus)!

Hello

! Hermione has plans to find out - she was thinking up strategies to look for her parents anyway, so she's in the right frame of mind for a spot of Muggle tracking.Don't feel too guilty :o) Severus is remarkably resilient! Thanks for the review.

Hmmm, the plot thickens! I can't wait to see what this is all about. The idea of a Tobias/Severus confrontation is very intriguing.

Yes, the plot is starting to coat the spoon... The next chapter is in the queue and should give some more clues. Thanks for the review!

Uh-oh, so Tobias Snape is alive, and, it seems, is involved in something that sounds a bit dodgy. Considering he was supposedly long dead, no wonder Severus is so rattled. At any rate, Hermione's going to have to find her inner Slytherin sense of subtlety if she's going to dig up anything useful without attracting any unwanted attention.
Response from noodle (Author of A Place in the World)
LOL! 'Dodgy' indeed. I think Hermione has a project plan already outlined - and a shovel with a digging charm ;o)

OMG! To me this chapter is like catnip to a kitty. I can't tell you how many times I reread portions to wring every scintilla of information, every iota of lore out of this chapter. And then I googled topics to learn even more. Noodle, you are one helluva story teller, and I am so sorry that RL sometimes keeps me from reading right away each time a new chapter posts. This is one of those truly magical stories that captures my imagination and runs wild with me through the streets of my mind. This chapter is spectacular in every sense of the word, and I am very much looking forward to the next one.Well done! A Thousand Points to Your House! Beth

Wow... Thank you Beth ~blushes~ I read a column in one of the local papers last year where the author likened reading to gathering the bricks with which we could build a welcoming home, and that the things we read throughout our lives form the rail lines and streets of our thoughts. He put it much better than that of course, as I'm working off a fuzzy memory - but your mention of mind-streets brought some of it back. I hope there's a really nice cafe in your streetscape where you can drop in and have a rest after all the running around :o) Thanks for all the House points! Yay!!

I can't wait to se what is going to happen, when Severus and Toby meet. I've never read a story where Severus' father plays such a large role.
Response from noodle (Author of A Place in the World)
Hee! Read on, then ;o) Toby does have his uses - as you'll see. Thanks for reading and reviewing!

If Toby has what I think he has, it would explain why people with magical connections have gathered there.

I find Petrus intriguing, so much power locked away. I like the glimpse's of Severus and Lily's childhood quite sad, Toby Snape always seemed to me to be a ordinary working class man, thrown into bad times, that doesn't excuse him beating his wife and child, many men were thrown out of work, but didn't go down that road. Mr Evens seemed a kindly soul, taking an interest in his daughter and her friend. The imagery of the bush is great, I was a bit worried about Severus poking around old sheds, and ducking down behind fallen trees, but I guess after Nagini, a funnel web or a taipan would be child's play.
Response from noodle (Author of A Place in the World)
Thank you! I'm sure S will be just fine. He's chased down nastier beasts than taipans (which are a fair way north from his hiding place) for various ingredients. He has more common sense than most when it comes to dangerous creatures and their potential locations ;o)

I'm glad that Severus got to hear lily has forgiven him, Dumbledore is, as always, beneath contempt. As I live in Eastern Australia, I'm very pleased that Severus and Hermione are taking shelter here.
Response from noodle (Author of A Place in the World)
Well, he did need to hear it - to him it was hugely important. S & H didn't drop in on you unexpectedly, did they?
Response from mick42 (Reviewer)
I wish.

We are off to a flying start. Poor Eileen is completely alone now, she has to protect Severus, and the family secret.

Thank you for an excellent story! I am on tenterhooks. I do hope Severus did not mean it literally when he mentioned to Hermione that they would have to go to a Prince dwelling in Wales ...

OMG! The closer Severus gets to understanding the Llygad y Ddraig, the more insane and determined Arawn becomes. This Unspeakable is Evil Incarnate!I loved the scene where Severus found himself back in the cave and able to watch this early seventeenth century wizard who reminded Severus of his mother. So now he has seen Merlin and this ancestor here in this same cave... I'm dying to know the identiy of this Prince family antecedent... This must be a critical piece of information for the Llygad to repeatedly give Severus these visions, but what exactly do they mean? What is the story behind all the attempts to guard this inheritance from people whose only motive to control it is to be able to control others through it? Clearly Toby knows something crucial about the Llygad y Ddraig, and he has decided to tell Sevrerus what he knows. And that can't happen soon enough to suit me.Lucius, too, knows something inportant about the Llygad. I'd bet my wand on it!Thanks again for another crackling chapter!!!Beth

Hee! You'll see why S was shown that particular scene in a future chapter. Don't worry - Arawn does get worse :oPCan't happen soon enough, eh? ~whispers~ it's in the QueueThanks again for reading and enjoying :o)

And the plot thickens! I really love the complexity of this tale. Depite my natural impatience, you make each chapter worth the wait. I can't wait to see what Snape's heritage has to do with this. Well done!
Response from noodle (Author of A Place in the World)
And I is thanking you :o) Good to know the waiting time is compensated for. RL has a way of tripping up the most meticulous schedules! (Maybe S can't wait either, I'll have to ask him...)

What an intricate tale you weave. An excellent chapter. I'm very much enjoying this chapter. Particularlly (sp?) the humor with Severus and Hermione. Also the talk with Lucius. It's nice to know he would risk a lot ot have Severus' back.
Response from noodle (Author of A Place in the World)
Thankyou, glad you enjoyed it. Lucius owed Severus big time for looking out for Draco (plus he really does regard him as a friend). Yes, S & H were looking particularly sleepy and satisfied after that secen ;o)

I stayed up until 4 a.m. to finish this - what a great story, hitting so many of my buttons! I've just recced this on the One Bad Man LJ comm, so I hope more people will get to enjoy this fantastic epic. Melodyssister
Response from noodle (Author of A Place in the World)
Wow... red eye. I hope you get a chance to sleep in or you'll get a sleep debt like Severus had (he says he's paid most of it back now with some help from Crookshanks - who is an excellent sleep debt manager). Thanks for the recc and I'm delighted that you enjoyed the story ;o)
so severus, hermione and MOM learning new things.. Glad tobias was caught! onward to see what next...

Hi! Yeah, I've heard it said that when you stop learning, you stop living - even if you're in the Ministry. Thanks for reading and reviewing :o)
Loved the Wizard of Oz reference. I discovered the story yesterday and have been reading with great interest and enjoyment. You've done a marvellous job to this point -- I care about the characters and what will happen next. Must be off to finish the story. Thanks for the ride thus far.
Response from noodle (Author of A Place in the World)
I'm just glad that Filius got away with it! I wouldn't give Minerva any cheek, she's probably got a Glasgow Kiss hex tucked away in her repertoire. Hope you enjoy the rest of the story :o)
I was wondering, how do you pronounce the phrase Llygad y Ddraig? It seems like Gaelic, which I have never pronounced correctly haha, I read it as, Lie-Gad (like Glad without the L) E Drayg, basically. :-/
Response from noodle (Author of A Place in the World)
Hi! Well, I'm certainly not a native speaker - all my language-other-than-english info comes courtesy of on-line translation devices (and the occasional kind person who does know the language in question and pm's me with a useful correction), but I hear that the "dd" in Welsh has a hard "th" sound to it. Otherwise I'd say you have it ;o)
What a great story! I loved every word! I could tell it involved much research. The characters and situations are so well developed. I could imagine everything happening & hear the characters speaking. Thanks. I look forward to reading more from you.

! Glad you enjoyed it and yes, there was quite a bit of searching, reading and note-taking :o)
Oh, I am captured by the mystery and looking forward to an enthralling ride through your imagination! This first chapter is very well-written with just enough details--and just enough left unsaid (for now)--to leave me intrigued and wanting more. I'm so glad to know this fic is complete except for the epilogue. I hope it is posted soon so I can enjoy this promising work in all of its completed glory. Thank-you for this story!
Response from noodle (Author of A Place in the World)
Thank you! I hope you enjoy the ride - the epilogue is up now so I can truly say that the story is complete :o)
