How sad...I knew you would not make it easy for him. Now he must solve the puzzle of Cassandra, or he will never be able to find his way home without her. :)Great work.

Hehe, you know me too well. I really am mean to Severus. I could just have let get the snakeskin boots and the girl, but nooo! Just had to mess things up. I need to see a professional about that ;-)Glad you're enjoying my little tale.Cheers. /M

Oh, my goodness! Severus needs to talk to Per. Cassandra's past holds something that has colored her decisions for decades, and if Severus is to truly understand what governs her fears, he will need to understand what she has been running from, as well.Great chapter! I hope we find out more of what happened to her to make her the woman/witch she is today. I am convinced that she loves Severus as much as he loves her.Beth
Response from morgaine_dulac (Author of The Way Home)
Maybe Severus should just talk to her? Dear Per has quite a lot of info, but he doesn't know everything.Glad you're still here.Cheers. /M

NOOOOOOOO!!! You can't end it there! Grrrrr. cliffhangers, why? Why? They are so well suited, I want them together, but the tension is exciting. I'm really hoping we'll hear from Per on her history next bit! Though after the story of her husband and child I'll not read it without tissues close by! LOL Loving this little tale!
Response from morgaine_dulac (Author of The Way Home)
Hehe, I like cliffhangers. Why? Because I am evil. Muahaha!Per is indeed sitting on quite a bit of information. Ha, he was just a sidekick at the Goth party when I started writing. Sneaky guy ... ;-)For the next chapter you will need: tissues, a glass of Scotch and maybe a bucket of ice cream.Glad you're enjoying this.Cheers. /M

She needs to think. It's more than just him. Going back, being who she is, carries a lot. She's a Black and that's high profile.I hope she finds the words to explain however she choses.Livvy

Being a Black is not a piece of cake. Cassandra has a lot of baggage. Hopefully she will not have to carry it alone. Thanks, as always, for reading and your review. /M

Oh, finally! As much as I know that an in-character Severus might not have been the most generous lover in the past, it's wonderful to see him finally getting it right. I love how he asked her permission. It seems certain now that they will be happy together. *content sigh*

Severus has come to love Cassandra more than he could ever have imagined, and though she loves him just as much... will she return to Hogwarts and the Wizarding world with him?Through her love, he has found the strength and fearlessness to confront his past and claim his future. Please let Cassy find her own strength and fearlessness, to be able to come with him, and to make a future for them together.I have so enjoyed this story from the very beginning. Well done!Beth

I really love this story but one thing is bugging me. It's pretty obvious that Cassandra is of the wizarding world and has always known he is Severus Snape. Given that, I just can't see a reason for her deception. It would have been so easy for her to have said, 'I know who you are Severus but don't worry - I've left our world for good too so your secret is safe with me'. I really hope she's not out to hurt him somehow.
Response from morgaine_dulac (Author of The Way Home)
Don't worry, Cassandra has no intentions of hurting Severus in any way. Quite the opposite. But she has her reasons for not confronting him. You'll see.Thank you for reading and leaving a note. /M

So, she's either a witch or her husband was related to the Black's somehow. I'm more intrigued than ever!

The silver ring... made of the symbols of Salazar Slytherin, serpents encircling a black stone. I can't wait to find out what the significance of the words "Toujours Pur – Always Pure" mean to Severus. In Chapter I, when he and Cassandra were having coffee in the hospital cafeteria, Cassandra had stated ‘I think there was a boy called Severus at my school,’ Cassandra went on, the look in her eyes suddenly much softer. ‘Not the nicest of blokes, but he turned out to be a good person in the end.’And once more, she smiled. Then in Chapter II, when Severus was eating his microwaved supper, he recalled her words: ...when she had mentioned having been at school with a boy called Severus, he had almost choked at his coffee. What had she said? Not the nicest of blokes, but he turned out to be a good person in the end?Yes, that had sounded like an accurate description of the man he had once been, and for a terrifying moment, he had thought that his cover had been blown, that she had been talking about him, that she had been talking about Severus Snape. But it couldn’t be. It was simply impossible. Cassandra was a Muggle, she knew nothing of his world. Then later in Chapter II, when Severus had asked her why she had not returned to England after the death of her husband, Cassandra had responded, ‘Let’s say that I had married way below family standards. They did not really welcome me back with open arms.’In Chapter III, Severus is thinking about his attraction to Cassandra: What was it about Cassandra that made him feel that way, he wondered.... It almost seemed to him as if he knew her, as if she had always been there, as if she was his oldest friend. My mind is wandering, trying to come up with an answer to the obvious question: of what significance is that ring? The words are French. Could Cassandra have been a classmate of Severus' at Hogwarts? He had just assumed that she was a Muggle, but could she really be a witch who had decided to leave the Wizarding world after her family had not approved of her marriage to a Muggle? Could the ring been one that Severus had gifted to... Lily? to another witch after the death of Lily? Does Lily figure into this story at all? I have so many questions!!! This is such a delicious puzzle! Good work!Beth

Congratulations, dear Watson. You certainly think faster than dear Severus.I am amazed how much work you put in this review. Makes me feel very honoured! Thank you.So, let me help you a little bit with the puzzle. Only a little, wouldn't want to spoil your fun.The ring: You interpreted the snakes correctly. How about the black stone? And the motto?A boy at school called Severus: how common is that name?Married below family standards: what kind of family does sound like?Lily: no, no Lily in this story. So, enough now! Ah, I am so delighted that you enjoy my little puzzle. It's driving Severus crazy anyway ;-)Next chapter is in the queue and contains some answers.Thank you so much for taking the time to read and review. /M

Hummmmmmm..... Toujours Pur is the motto of the Black family, and the black stone and encircling snakes must mean that the ring is a Black family heirloom.Soooooooo.... from which branch of the Black family is Cassandra descended? This puzzle gets better and better! Beth

I really have to slap my own fingers so I won't type any more clues. Maybe just one more ... *slaps* ... bad girl, bad! hehe

Oh, she was married to a Malfoy, then?
Response from morgaine_dulac (Author of The Way Home)
Where did you get that from? Thanks for the shiny stars :-)
Response from Muggline (Reviewer)
Sorry, mixed them up. I thought that "toujours pur" was the Malfoy coat of arms. And I forgot about the fact that she was married to a Muggle. That's the problem with reading only one chapter per week - one tends to forget about the details.
Response from morgaine_dulac (Author of The Way Home)
And gets confused because one reads a zillion other chapters as well. Gee, we lead a hard life ;-)

Oh, yeah. Break out the frock coat.
Author's Response: So you've missed it too, eh? Who hasn't ... sigh ;-)
Cheers. /M
‘It is you,’ he whispered. ‘All of it is you, Severus.’What had made him think that he could ever bury Severus Snape and let him rest in peace? What had made him think that he could outrun his past? He could run, yes, but he would never be able to hide. No matter how far away from England and the Wizarding world he was, Severus Snape would always be there. And maybe it was time to make peace with him. When I read the above scene, I had to wonder if ultimately he will decide to return to England and the Wizarding world he had left behind. He seemed to relish the feel of his frock coat and robes again. And he is clearly taken with Cassandra!!! And she with him!!! Their love making was very passionate and Cassandra knew just how to put him at ease when he was spent so soon: ‘I am sorry,’ he said, his eyes still focused on the pair of silken boxers he was holding in his hands. ‘It has been a while.’‘That’s quite alright, you know. We have all night,’ she whispered into his ear. Now, what is it about Severus that has gotten Nicodemus to decide to befriend him?Lovely, lovely chapter! Beth
Response from morgaine_dulac (Author of The Way Home)
I'm very glad you liked the chapter.Of course Severus likes his robes. They are part of him (or is that just a sick fan girl fantasy? hihi) Also glad that you like it that Severus and Cassandra have found each other. They are rather cute together, aren't they. And Nicodemus... hm, maybe Severus was hiding a nicefish in his pocket to bribe the cat? ;-) You'll find out.Thank you for reading and leaving such a lovely note.Cheers. /M

Lovely chapter! I can so understand him that he longs to wear his old clothes again, a part of himself... I forgot about the beard, though, and am glad that he got rid of it. Somehow, I can't imagine Snape being a beard-type at all.
And HOW interesting that Nicodemus likes him all of a sudden... but who does not want to see, does not see at all, does he? ;o) But it's so nice that the party acts as a cataclyst and speeds up their relationship - and helps Snape to do what he really wants to inside. Men are just soooo complicated ;o)
Just out of curiosity: would it be likely that a similar party can be hold in a crypt for real?
Author's Response: Frock coat, clean shaven, the hair maybe a tad greasy ... oh yum! hehe
You mean, if the church would allow it? I guess it depends on how desperate they are for money. Would be nice to have a party in a chuch crypt though.
Cheers. /M
