Born: in the glorious year of 1979, when Dio joined Black Sabbath and Peter Pettigrew started passing on information to the Dark Lord
Colours: black, green, silver
Passions: writing, cooking, baking, witchcraft
Obsessions: quite a few, chocolate for one (hi Lupin!), but mainly a certain Potions master and a blond DE.

I like Cassy, she's a hoot. I think she's just the breath of fresh air Severus needs.

I wonder if Cassandra knows who Severus really is? Nice chapter to lead into the story.

The opening dream Severus had was truly horrific! And I'm glad it was a dream. It is going to remain just a dream, isn't it? Please say, "Yes."I look forward to Severus and Cassandra's return to Hogwarts. It will be an interesting "homecoming."Well done!Beth

You tricked me! I was going nuts and then you flipped the switch. Naughty girl :)I did the same thing to my husband. There we were after a lovely night of dinner and champagne on top of a park that looked over his city in Torino, Italy. Spring night, cherry blossoms around us and he gets on both knees and asks me to marry him.I said, "Why?"I was serious, too! I was a very hard-hearted young woman who had been horribly used, abused, and nearly left for dead and did not have faith in men. I didn't even love him when he proposed, although I told him I did. I knew we could be happy and that he loved very much. I respected him highly, he is a good man and remains eight years later. But I needed to know why he wanted me, what he expected of me, what kind of ideal had he placed me into. He was gobsmacked, but I was resolute. He told me he loved me and that he knew he would never regret marrying me, that I was a kind and loyal woman and I would be good to him and our children. I was the love of his life. At 38, and having been married before, that was quite the statement. I would think it normal for Cassandra to test and be wary of why Severus claims to love her. I know I would and I went through some circumstances not much differnent from hers. You're doing good, keep Cassandra still reserved a bit. It should be the actions Severus does over a period of time that will prove he's real.Livvy :)

Dear LivvyI am glad you can understand Cassandra's reaction. She has loved and lost before, and of course she is wary and does not want to suffer any more.Give my love to you husband.Cheers. /M

That opening was incredibly chilling. I was actually terrified there for a moment. If you manage to bring Voldiepants back I can see you're going to scare the bejebus out of us!Oh, you evil woman you!! I love it!!!

Phew – I had a very strong suspicion that it was a nightmare right from the start, but it was a horrible vision nonetheless... As for the rest: please tell me that there will be no more mummies jumping out of cupboards or bathtubs (I am referring to a certain tendency that can be found in Hollywood productions where the bad guy/girl thought dead comes back for one last showdown to shock the audience). I'd appreciate some peace of mind for a change ;-)

While I do love your story, I can't say I like the relationship between Severus and Cassandra. I can't imagine why she would allow Severus to suffer through the stress of choosing between losing her or the magical world while she knew she would go with him. And his terror at even discussing it with her was hardly healthy either. Can such a dysfunctional relationship survive the Hogwarts pressure cooker for long?
Response from morgaine_dulac (Author of The Way Home)
Because she is just as sadistic as I am?No, seriously now. Cassandra needed time. For ten years, she has been convinced that her relation to the Magical world was the reason her husband and child were killed. It was as if she had killed them. This went so far that she stopped using magic. Then Severus came along. He brought the magic back, and it terrified her. So it is not like she has been holding him on tenterhooks. Not deliberately anyway. But she had to find an answer to the same questions Severus had: who would be making the sacrifice, him or her? So she worked in silence and slowly rediscovered her magic. Not with Severus but for him.The time between Severus' birthday and the Saturday in the park was enough time for both of them to think. And they both came to the same conclusion: that they would do anything for each other. Severus would stay in Iceland for Cassandra, and Cassandra would return to the Wizarding world for Severus. And ultimately, Cassandra realised that facing her fears was the easiest choice. I just took her a while to get there. So, I hope I could clear up some things. And I hope that you will continue reading and sharing your thoughts about the story. They are very much appreciated.Cheers. /M

I knew it, you sadist you! In fairness, Severus is just as bad as Cassandra in leaving her stressing over whether he would just leave her for Hogwarts. I'm just naturally biased in his favor!I really appreciate you taking the time for such a detailed response. I can see we're dealing with two people who have communication "issues" but I'm sure they'll grow out of it.But no matter what, I will be sticking with your wonderful story and sharing my views. I can't seem to help myself!
Response from morgaine_dulac (Author of The Way Home)
If you think that I am a sadist now, wait until the stroy is finished Wha-? Severus Snape? Communication issues? Where did you get that idea from? He deals always so well with his emotions and shares them with everyone. LOL Well, he has communication issues! We know that. And Cassandra is just as bad, despite her Ravenclaw brains. But who can blame her? She's a Black. I promise, I'll be nice to Severus and Cassandra. For a while at least Oh, two devils in one response? Oi oi oi ... heheGlad you haven't given up on me or the story.Cheers. /M

Oh, that's lovely! And it is so in character that he wouldn't belive her at first--mostly because he believes he doesn't ever, ever get a break. The story of his mother's breakdown is heartbreaking. At least Severus has learned that you cannot make other people live the lives you choose for them--the choice has to be their own.Now if Cassandra can just convince him that this is indeed her choice.Nicely done!
Response from morgaine_dulac (Author of The Way Home)
Cassandra will do her best to convince him. She knows that he won't return to the Wizarding world unless she succeeds. And she knows that he belongs there.Glad you liked it. /M

I was so happy when Cassandra told Severus that she was coming back to Hogwarts with him... that she would be teaching, too. But I was beyond deliriously ecstatic when she cast her Patronus and showed him that ‘Magic has decided. I am irrevocably linked to you.’Woot! Fabulous, wonderful chapter! I know there will be ups and downs for them in the days to come, but the most difficult decisions have been made... now it is a matter of implementation. It will require courage, but the decision to begin has been made.Well done!Beth

Goodness! What a bombshell to drop on poor Severus!Hopefully, you'll have Cassandra explain her about face. It's quite a jump to go from terrified of magic to teaching it.Looking forward to more! Thanks for sharing this!

Oh, you're going to leave things there?!?!It is lovely that he has come to understand that her needs matter as much as his do, and that the only place he can be is with her, wherever that may be.This is a very sweet, moving story, and I am so glad TNL sent me here. Thank you so much for sharing this, and for wonderful lines like this one:She would ride him to heaven if he let her.~applauds~

Would never dare leaving the story here. There will be 22 chapters, all of them are written and waiting in queue to be validated. So keep your eyes open.I cannot believe you actually read through this in one go. Makes me feel very proud and happy. And I really hope you'll come back and read the rest.Cheers. /M

Oh, goody goody, it's not over!! Didn't see that it was a WIP (which in this case means Work In Posting, perhaps?).I'm so glad there's more to come--I do tend to swallow stuff whole when it's good, so thank you for not letting me! Will bookmark and attempt restraint.Probably won't succeed.

What did they do to her? And how can he help her? It's interesting to have him meet someone more damaged than he is, someone he needs to use his own experience to help.

I love the fact that he is so unaccustomed to good feelings of any kind that he has to analyze them and then try to label them. It is very sweet that he is learning to know what love and being loved feels like, and sad that it took him this long in his life to find out.
Response from morgaine_dulac (Author of The Way Home)

If anyone can understand what he fears revealing, this is the woman. Perhaps by seeing the mirror image in her, he can learn to accept himself. Minerva's right: They have the power to heal one another.

He damn well better come back! Silly man!If he thinks this through clearly, he will see that she never lied to him and never tried to deceive him.And I figured she was in touch with Minerva--who, if he ever told her Cassandra's name in one of his letter, was the one person who did know the truth about them both.Okay, Minerva and Nicodemus. Both cats knew.So I say again, silly man! You've found the perfect woman! Get your ass back here!

p.s. Had to take a break (so annoying when RL won't let you stop everything because you've found a ripping good read!), but had to come back to add that of course Cassandra is a Black--here I was thinking that she was named after the seer, when she must instead have been named after the constellation, and that should've given it away! But, Severus, remember what else you know: her family felt she'd married beneath her, she was going to visit her cousin in London (presumably the one family member still speaking to her, and it would've been while said cousin was still alive, before the Second War), and then of course there's that hair...a family trait which perhaps her cousin shared?Oh, and there's that owl--perhaps Severus isn't the only one in correspondence with a certain Scotswoman?I'll be back later, must do a few annoying things out in my own Muggle world first. My reward when I'm done will be getting to continue this wonderful tale you're telling!
