Dumbledore had thought that he had done it all for Lily. But Lily had turned from him many years ago. She would not have cared about what he had done. She would only have cared that someone had protected her son. That was so cool! I had never read anyone's story that had Snape's intentions written like that. So creepy, like he could manipulate or fool his mind into thinking Lily and he could have a connection again! Shesh!Good work!Livvy

I have still not decided what I think of the relationship between Severus and Lily (in canon that is): was it really love, puppy love or just a really unhealthy obsession?I am very glad that you liked the version I've chosen for this story.Cheers. /M

Mmmm. I have my definate opinion on that issue. It took a lot to think about. Theirs was a complex relationship.Livvy

I'm getting there ... I think.What's your opinion?
Response from livvy6 (Reviewer)
I think that Snape built Lily to be the perfect woman in his eyes and it grew to obsessive proportions after their relationship ended. Then when she died, his guilt was so great and the possibility of any sort of reconciliation gone, it made him imbalanced. His physical appearance, the wearing of perpetual black, a sign of deep mourning throughout his life, a disregard for his own personal safety willingness to be a spy where he could be killed at any moment, showed he already felt his life was over and was just waiting for death for without Lily, the object of his obsession alive, there was no reason for living.Another reason I think it was not love is the fact he did not care for Harry. He kept his promise to keep him alive, but much like Petunia, he did the barest of things to keep the promise. He was Lily's son who looked like his nemesis, James Potter. Each time he looked at him, I'm sure it was just another twist of the knife that his precious Lily had given to Potter what he wanted for himself. Snape, I think, could not handle that reality, that his perfect woman, the pure Lily had sex and had given birth to Potter's son. But he had her eyes, there was a part of her in him. The last connection. If he had truly loved her and had not viewed her as an object to covet, he would have loved Harry. I'm not saying he would have been a completely different person, but he would not have antagonized and made his life difficult. He would have tried to make a connection with him, instead of feuling the hate and animosity. He saw James as a person and Lily as a porcelin doll. YOu can't hate dolls, object or things. But you can hate people.Voldemort made an interesting point when he and Harry were dueling. He had, after Lily's death told him there were other women, purer, better woman for the taking". I'm sure Snape gave him lip service, agreeing to it, but if it had been love, eventually that love would have led him to another. He may have never married, but the disregard he had for Tonks/Lupin's relationship, being the teacher obsessed with finding students involved in illicit ativities and when confroted with the (fake) Moody about his potions stores, his thought went directly to students wanting ingredients to make illicit potions. THere was a definate creepy feeling about it. Snape, the unloved, the one who wanted Lily so badly he looked upon her with "greed." His idea of love is ownership of a simplistic toddler's view "this is MINE!", which I think leads a lot to feed the fanon with Snape's interactions with Hermione. His rigidity towards relationship is so underdeveloped that he is stunted emotionally. So, he may have "loved" in his own definition of the word, but that love was not full-grown nor was it open for discussion or interpretion. Albus was ordered for no one to know about what he was up to in regards to helping Harry because of Lily. She was his, he did not speak of her, or even elude to her. If it had been anyone else who had viewed the episode of he and Lily in the Pensieve, he probably would have killed them. It all goes back to Lily is HIS, his object, his obsession. So that is my view.

I really like that Severus is in a relationship with someone who is more damaged than he is. I think it's a refreshing change to see him in the role of nurturer.

Thank you for you kind words.I also like to see Severus as the strong one for a change. (Um, that's probably why I've written him that way, hehe)Thank you for reading and leaving a note of course. /M

Boy, she has been through a nightmare with her life! How sad and horrible for her. I'm so glad he finally decided to come back. I hope things work out for them. It will be interesting to see if they end up staying in Iceland or moving back to rejoin the wizarding world. I am supposing the latter, because of the title to the story.Good job.
Response from morgaine_dulac (Author of The Way Home)
You know, you are the first one to comment on the title of the story and what it could mean concerning the plot. Well done, dear Watson.Cassandra has been through a lot, and so has Severus, of course. It will take a lot of strength for them to help each other.Thank you very much for reading and taking the time to leave a note. /M

Finally, a step in the right direction. I hope Severus can get past his past, because I think Cassandra and he can build a future of hope and fulfill each other's dreams if they give themselves half a chance.Well done!Beth

Now that was a good choice. THey really needed to wipe the slate clean and get things sorted in the proper order. I'm glad Severus took that step. I was concerned he was really going to screw the pooch on that one, boy!Good job!LivvyP.S. Is this the end?

I am jealous, I can't write sex scenes like that. Too verbally inhibited, probably. Excellent chapter.

I think I'm beginning to know what death by short chapters feels like.I'm too slow of a writer to beg for more chapters, but these cliffhangers are deadly.

I just don't know how Sirius would turn his back on his sister. I would think he would have been proud to have a sister not in Slytherin. They could have been outcasts together, but again, Sirius was always so self-absorbed in what he was interested in. I always wondered if Sirius didn't have a thing for James.Livvy
