"A Murder of Crows" was my first foray into fan-fiction, and I treasure the lessons I've learned while posting it.
Reviews for A Murder of Crows
This Snape is so insecure and abusive, I think Hermione should run for the hills.
No matter about the breach of privacy on her part, he saw her with Lucius and without any question or reflection expected the worst of her. Then he assaulted her mind and found out about her seeing his memories - but in my view, his reaction to seeing her with Lucius was already unacceptable.
I guess you're right. Treating Severus like she didn't care what happened in the alcove would be more painful to him than an all out attack.
It's a good thing Hermione is so forgiving. I have a feeling that if I were Hermione, Snape would have killed me in an impromptu duel by now, citing self defence, before I could eventually see his behavior in the big picture and become resigned to the fact that you should expect such things from Severus Snape and that is just one price that much be paid if you want him in the long run.
Bertram is lucky for now, but I wonder what will happen if Snape has opportunity to have a go at him.
Hermione won't retaliate against him, but I don't think she'll forgive him either. Bertram is lucky Hermione isn't a Slytherin. Otherwise he might find his balls being cursed off sometime next year, when he least suspects it in a freak accident that couldn't be traced back to Hermione Granger. Unless she were a Slytherin who likes to gloat.
I absolutely love how Severus lashed out in anger by destroying the class room. As soon as she saw it, I knew who had done it. What an honor it is to be the woman that caused Severus Snape to snap! he-he. I'm sure it wasn't missed by Hermione.
Wonderful!! I love, love, love it!
Oh No. This is gonna be bad...very very bad. I'm so sad for Hermione right now. I'm kinda glad I waited to read this Chapter untill the next was posted too! I'm going to go see what happens next. Much Love ~ Brena

I fear it may get worse before it gets better. *bites nails*Thanks so much for the review and lovely stars, hon'!
I had to actually leave the room, and my laptop, when I read what Snape said to her about Lily. Well done. My nerves are frazzled.

Thank you so much for this review. I think this chapter was particularly difficult for many readers, many of whom bring their own interpretation of the character to the table. I see him as a scarred, flawed man who strikes out when wounded (often at his own detriment, at least on a personal level) ... but one who also has the capacity to love, to regret and, hopefully, to evolve.Thank you for reading and for sharing your thoughts. I greatly appreciate it!
Oh. My. god. She is so screwed (no pun intended). She better work on a self control potion before he exploits every single weakness she has, if he hasn't already done so!
At least she knows he wants her too, but it is extremely small compensation. The humiliation has to be enough to make her want to fling herself from the Astronomy tower with self loathing. It would take all my self control not to slide down that wall and dissolve in to a fit of angry weeping and cursing myself, him, the statue, the alcove, the gargoyles on the roof, the students, every stone in the castle, the sun, moon and the stars. For a moment I would wrestle with the impulse to blow up the whole damn school and everyone in it to wipe out any body who might ever know what a fool I'd been. I say she should sleep in her lab tonight and not even go back to their quarters when he's there. She must skip dinner too. ....No. Time for a long leave of absence! Pretend her mom is dying. Yeah, that's the ticket! Go tell Minerva before another minute passes! She'll see you've been crying and it will be more convincing. And cover your tracks. Make sure she can't hunt you down.
Will he obliviate the class full of children who will surely spread rumors of their inappropriate pissing contest? And what a shock to see him grab Professor Granger by the arm and physically remove her from the room!
If she isn't smart enough to flee, she is so getting called in to the Headmistress' office tonight for a dressing down. I know Minerva has to know Severus Snape could make a preacher cuss, but it's down to one's own self control. I know one must remember ownership of problems. However, I feel Minerva needs to take a little bit of responsibility for putting them in a situation where they can never get a break from each other. How mean was it to put Hermione Granger, Gryffindor Know It All Extraordinaire in the same living quarters as Severus Snape, The Biggest Slytherin Bastard In The Entire Wizarding World? She already knew they had a history of animosity. Even "grown ups" have their limits. Gryffindors are impulsive. Slytherin are passive aggressive for sport. What was the Headmistress thinking? She should have seen something like this coming. She may as well have put Severus Snape and Sirius Black permanently in the same quarters.
If I were Hermione, once I got somewhere safe I would be plotting his assassination as my biggest challenge ever! Using sex for punishment must have some retaliation due. If you're too unwisely moral to flee, definitely move into your lab permanently, Hermione. Ward it heavily. Order the house elves to guard your lab and not to let anyone but you inside, no matter what. There you can better plot your revenge. The logical consequence would seem to be make him lose control, but I wouldn't go up against him. He has years of training. Plan long and carefully. You seem to have forgotten that he is an extremely dangerous man, no matter how good he may be.
I'm intrigued beyond measure!
If it wasn't for the fact that I was once young myself, I would be saying, "How in the world could that stupid girl not see the sexual tension between herself and Severus Snape is getting to her"? She can't imagine Professor Snape would ever find her attractive. She has no idea she is attractive. But is she totally in denial that she finds him extremely so?
Snape on the other hand has no such excuse, unless he simply has never had a woman ripe for the picking before. Somehow, I doubt that. I'd guess the "old man" had been around the block more than once. Maybe the other women who showed interest in him were purposely seduced for professional spy purposes and he can't see it when he hasn't planned it
Should I be disappointed if he didn't pick her pocket when he grabbed her arm?
hum...
Oh my! She's in trouble. I can't imagine no one at all at that table wouldn't have noticed the way he'd been watching her mouth and caressing her face with his eyes. Especially with all the blushing Hermione was doing. I would imagine such a thing would not be lost on someone like Rolonda Hooch and I don't imagine you become a competent dark arts instructor by being naive. So I would also think Bertram would also notice. I have a feeling he would feel protective of Hermione. I also have a feeling that her friendship with Bertram will come up some where down the road between Hermione and Severus.
I'm not sure it would even occur to Minerva that this arrangement could brew a scandal. Although, what would one expect when you put two intelligent and passionate people in the same living quarters? We'll just have to see.
Still loving it!
All I can say is, "Splendid beginning"! I love how true to cannon your characters are. It also reminds me that it has been many years since I've read most of the series, back when I still liked the story and before everyone was killed off ruthlessly, including Severus Snape. Thank you for bringing him back to life so well and thank you for making sure Hermione didn't end up married to Ron. It would have been such a waste of intelligence.
Your style is beautiful and flowing. You've made looking at the world through Herman's eyes perfect. Though I must confess I do wonder what looking at the world through Snape's eyes would be like.
I've been a rabid fan of SS/HG since the first movie was released and I saw Severus Snape look consideringly from Harry to Quirrell and back to Harry again. Eight long years ago I discovered "When I Kissed the Teacher" web site. I've wasted many a long hour when I should have been doing other things hiding in the escape of fan fiction since then. Harry Potter fan fiction has come a very long way in the professionalism exhibited by authors such as yourself. You have the gift! I'm so glad to start reading your story. It feels like creamy chocolate truffles melting on my tongue. I'm sorry it took so long to get to it. It's just that I only read stories that are finished. I'm one of those horrible people who reads the end first to make sure it isn't tragic before I start a story. There is tragedy enough in the real world. I hate sad surprises. If I'm going to subject myself to tears during my leisure time, it better be for a damn good reason and I must prepare myself in advance.
Thank you for using your gift for people like me. If I don't like the end of a story, I can find someone like you who has the skill to change it for me. I love you for it!
I think she was a little naive to expect Malfoy to change his spots. But an impressive display of power. The hair loss jinx would have been the icing on the cake! :)
Argggh, ambushed by the blond menace! :)
Wonder if those students suspected what was going on under their noses? ;)
'She was, quite simply, his.'
That's beautiful, love! :)
At least they are communicating again. :)
“You will never know that,” he stated, “because you will never be Lily.” Doesn't actually mean he doesn't love her, just that he doesn't love her in the same way. Lily rejected him. :)
Lucius is chillingly evil. And Snape is an idiot. :)
The man's a machine. That's all I can say. Except... can I have him? Oops, did I say that out loud? :P
He's so unromantic it is almost sweet in itself.
The kiss was... awesome! :)
Someone should smack Bertram. He's an underhand, insensitive prat! :)
Hermione and Severus need their heads knocked together, and Draco is my hero. :)
I'm pickin' he wasn't exactly unmoved himself! :)
Someone has a touch of the green-eyed monster, and what does he know about Arglist? :)
Mmmm. That's a challenge a lot of people would like to take up. :)
I can feel an 'I told you so,' coming on, though I guess Hermione is probably better behaved than I would have been! :)
Well, I imagine the sight of Snape undressing would be kind of mesmerising! :)
Snape is definately up to something at Arglist.
