To all my devoted readers and reviewers just wanted to let you know that I haven't forgotten about my little tale that has been neglected over the past few years. As stated in my previous update, real life got in the way, but I feel ready to write again.
Reviews for Melancholy Whore
I'm really liking this story. Just found it. I'm glad you're picking it back up. I can't wait to see where you take us.
Response from CordyAngelSeer (Author of Melancholy Whore)
Thanks so much, chapter 13 is in the process of being written os stay tuned.
I'm glad you're back because you left at least me if not the rest of the readership hanging the mouth open with this chapter. I want to know what's going to happen. Pleaaaaaaaaaaaasssseeeee
Response from CordyAngelSeer (Author of Melancholy Whore)
Thanks Snitchette for the R&R, and as far as what is going to happen next, chapter 13 is being written and I am about 1/4 into it. Thanks again.
I am enjoying the verbal dance between Prof. Snape and Hermione. His comment whispered in her ear about his "abilities" reeks of innuendo. So much for him not being interested. lol.

Thank you so much for the review and rating

. Well since they cannot physically engage with one another, their, or rather his not so sutble innuendoes, and their 'debates' will have to suffice... for now. Chapter 13 is in the stages of being written so look for an update soon.
“I can assure you that my abilities are not lacking in any way, shape, or form,” TEASING! Snape is teasing Granger and you, dear author are teasing me! We are a long way from the naked parts arent we? I am hanging on for the ride. Bring it on
Response from CordyAngelSeer (Author of Melancholy Whore)
Thank you so much for the rating and review,
Response from CordyAngelSeer (Author of Melancholy Whore)
, yes Snape is being very cheeky he needs an outlet to relieve some of his frustration and tension, so what better way then with snarky innuedoes. As for the naked parts, they could be closer than you think ;)
"Hell of a ride," sounds wonderful. We're at your mercy!
Response from CordyAngelSeer (Author of Melancholy Whore)
Thank you so much for the rating and review, I'm writing Chapter 13 so hopefully you won't have to wait too long for the next update.
I lost track of this. I thought I had it bookmarked but evidently not. The mood and tension you weave is stellar. I'm just hanging by a thread....
Response from CordyAngelSeer (Author of Melancholy Whore)
Thank you so much for your review Mia. I'm writing Chapter 13 and have about 1/4 of it written. Hopefully, I'll find some time to write this weekend. Again, thank you for the review.
Anything Umbridge is involved in is something to be suspicious of. I hope Hermione agrees. Interesting chapter and a nice lead up to some action later.
Response from CordyAngelSeer (Author of Melancholy Whore)
Anything with Umbridge is bad news. On the plus side Chapter 11 is in queue. Thank you so much for taking the time to read and review Sindad. For a mid spoiler for chapter 11, action will be had.

I had started to read this story back when you published the first few chapters. Decided at that point not to continue reading as it didn't make much sense and the summary is a bit off-putting. Makes HG sound like some pathetic thing and she's not. Then, lo and behold, the Holiday Doldrums hit and in search of something to read, I came across your story again. Started it over and by the time I got to No. 4, Ch. 2, I was and am totally hooked on this story!! The more I read of it, the better it gets. I am definitely looking forward to 14/12.
Response from CordyAngelSeer (Author of Melancholy Whore)
Wow, I'm flattered that you decided to give my story another try and are enjoying it. Thanks so much, this is my first HP fiction, so I'm been very nervous that my writing style/storytelling would be off putting. Hermione is young. but don't expect her to kowtow to much. Well I'm working on chapter 12 twelve but with the holidays I probably won't have it off to my beta until sometime next week. Again thank for the R&R,

I only wish Severus stood up to Albus in canon. I loved how you gave him a chance to aggravate Albus a bit.
Response from CordyAngelSeer (Author of Melancholy Whore)
Severus is a man of principle, misguided though at sometimes. Thank you so much for the R & R

Scary things going on at Hogwarts. Snape seems freaked about the position Dumbledore has put him into with respect to Umbridge's visit.
Response from CordyAngelSeer (Author of Melancholy Whore)
Snape has reason to worry with Voldie, Umbridge and now Dumbledore, poor guy can't catch a break I tell you. Upn ext will be chapter 12 which I have already begun to write. Thanks so much for your rating and review

such an intriguing story. i must go along for the ride. thanks so much
Response from CordyAngelSeer (Author of Melancholy Whore)
Thank you, Kimjo2 for taking the time to review, I'm glad you like my little story. Chapter 12 is being written as I type.
DENIAL- Maybe it's best for Severus now, But not forever. Loved the exchange between Dumbledore and Snape, i feel that when he said “The irony of the fox guarding the chicken coop.” had a double meaning? As the fox (Severus) is obviously the enemy but yet he takes care of the coop (Hermione). I being to think Dumbledore know's about Severus's feelings. Look forward to more.

Dumbledore has really put the Potions master in a difficult spot. This could lead to Snape's death at the hands of Voldemort or one of his Death Eaters. I can understand why Severus is so upset. When Severus tried to reason with the Headmaster and get him to place Hermione under the protection of her own Head of House, Dumbledore chuckled. When Snape asked him what he had found so humorous, Dumbledore replied: “The irony of the fox guarding the chicken coop.” At first I thought the Headmaster might be hinting to Snape that he suspected his true feelings for Hermione, but when he was asked to explain his remark, Dumbledore told him, “After last year, I highly doubt Umbridge would dare to venture into the Forbidden Forest.” “Yes, yes, the incident with the Centaurs,” Snape huffed, urging the headmaster to enlighten him to whatever scheme his senile mind concocted. “Well, potions ingredients must be gathered, Severus. You should really have a care to keep your storeroom stocked.” Blue eyes twinkled. Well, after that exchange, I decided I must be wrong, that the Headmaster was referring to the Forbidden Forest. But then I asked myself if he could have been talking about both. Great Lord! you've written a whale of a good story!!!Later, when Severus confronted Hermione about her continuing to pursue him, I was very proud of Hermione for standing up to him and not allowing him to make her run away. But when he kissed her and held her even after the curse had begun to cause her pain, I knew this wasn't the kind of emotion that Hermione had hoped for. He was trying to make a point that events had taken a very dangerous turn and that she would do well to change her behavior.“I’m not scared of you, nor falling… I already have fallen.” “You would do well to fear me, Miss Granger.” He turned from her. “You won’t hurt me.” Her voice so full of assuredness, he closed his eyes, pained. “I already have.” He turned to face her. “It won’t be the fall that kills you, Miss Granger, but the sudden stop at the end.” This ending gave me shivers. What will happen to Severus and Hermione? They are both in such a precarious place... and they do love each other, which just makes me fear for them even more. This was one fabulous chapter! Sorry for the long review. Sometimes I just get carried away.Beth
Response from CordyAngelSeer (Author of Melancholy Whore)
Oh my gosh, thanks so much for the kind words, and Beth, when it comes to reviewing, please be as longwinded as you'd like. LOL. I have to say I think Dumbledore knows a bit more than he is letting on, and poor Severus stuck between a rock and a hard place. He and Hermione are working towards their issues. On a side note, I'm currently writing chapter 12, so be on the lookout. Again, thank you for taking the time to R&R.
I hate it when he is like that! He loves her, and he is being such a prick! Grrr. Please update soon. Nice confrontation between Snape and DD btw.Livvy
Response from CordyAngelSeer (Author of Melancholy Whore)
Thanks for the review and rating Livvy. Yeah, Sev can be a bit of a jerk, but his heart's in the right place. Dumbledore will have a lot to answer for, in Snape's veiw, but that's for another chapter. Thanks again for the R&R, and FYI, I'm working on chapter 12, but with the Holidays coming up, not sure how much time I'll be able to devote to writing this week.
Pride goeth before a fall... Severus really should have spoken up for himself. It's a pity that no one ever stood up for him. I suspect years of wrongful persectution made him so bitter that he took the mark.
Response from CordyAngelSeer (Author of Melancholy Whore)
Severus is a bitter and troubled man. The only person who ever really loved him, his grandmother, could only do so much as she was a Muggle. These past couple chapters are showing how and why Severus is the way he is. I'm working on Chapter Eight now which will deal with detention Seveus assigned Hermione, I hope to ship it off to my beta by the weekend. Thank you for taking the time to rate and review, Sinbad, and stay tuned for chapter eight :)

This is so unfair. I don't like particularly DD especially after DH but now I'm that close to hate him. A Snape on the verge of tears is not a common thing nor one i wish to experience once more.As for the last reference I guess Sonia has something to do with Crime and Punishment but I haven't read the book so...
Response from CordyAngelSeer (Author of Melancholy Whore)
Poor Severus, I know, but these past events hae made him the man he is today. As for the reference to Sonia she is from Dostoevsky's Crime & Punishment, she is a young girl and moral compass for Roskolnikov the main character who committs a murder and believes he will get away with it until his guilt overcomes him. Thank you so much for the review and stay tuned for chapter eight.

“Miss Granger, my Sonia.” Indeed, Hermione has become Sonia to Severus's Raskolnikov. The opening sequence to this chapter had me wondering what was happening to our Severus. His need to murder seemed to be all consuming. I was so relieved when I realized it was a nightmare. Our hero was treated so badly as a young child and as student that I'm not surprised that he developed such a dark and dour presence. The incident with the Marauders was upsetting, but the piece de resistance was when he was punished for only trying to eat the leftovers at The Three Broomsticks. Dumbledore wasn't so omniscient after all.“Miss Granger, my Sonia.” Our Miss Granger is becoming very special to our Severus. Yes, I think this might be a very good thing.Great chapter.Beth
Response from CordyAngelSeer (Author of Melancholy Whore)
Thank you so much Beth. The opening sequence is the reworked murder scene that I deleted from Chapter Six. Severus is a dark character but I couldn't make him that dark. But I liked the writing so decided to fit it into the story without destoying Severus' character. Enter the dream sequence LOL. Severus needs some light in his life and that is were his Miss Granger comes in. You know what they say about the love of a good woman. Chapter Eight is being kicked around so stay tuned. Again, thank you for taking the time to review,

The Marauders seemed like little bastards who got away with everything. I really feel for the Snape for the past. There is no excuse for bullying or allowing bullying. I do not understand the reference to Sonia at the end.
Response from CordyAngelSeer (Author of Melancholy Whore)
Yeah, there is no love lost between Severus and the Marauders, kids can be cruel, although they should know better as they are not children anymore. Sirius is bully of the highest order, but James and Remus are worse because they inable him by their actions and inaction. The reference to Sonia is from Dostoevsky's Crime & Punishment, she is a young girl and moral compass for Roskolnikov the main character who committs a murder and believes he will get away with it until his guilt overcomes him. It a great book I had to read years ago in my AP Lit course in high school.

Oh, man! Crime and Punishment. I just started reading that book, how strange! Great dream sequence!Livvy

Crime and Punishment is one of my favorite books, I just love the relationship between Raskolnikov and Sonia and it can be viewed as a parrallel of sorts to Severus and Hermione. I've dropped a few literary allusions in this story already, from The Scarlet Letter to Lolita. I'm sure there will be more as I continue. Thank you for your review and rating. :)

What a tortured soul Severus is! With one foot in each world, he has such a hard time finding peace anywhere. I see why the memory of Hermione's interchange with him in the Shrieking Shack continues to touch something in him — a need to connect with a part of his past before he made the disastrous choice to align himself with one, whom he saw at the time as a source of Power, who would exact the most heinous displays of loyalty imaginable. She gave voice to what she saw in him, a man capable of a great and enduring love, a man who still had promise..."It was in that moment that Snape vowed to himself that he would see no harm come to the slip of a girl who had touched him, had uncovered his soul not yet completely decimated by the whims of madmen." That Severus still seeks out his roots, his lifelong confessor, seeks to receive absolution and penance, gives promise for the future. He is not yet so lost that he cannot find a touchstone; he can still see the trail of crumbs that can lead him back home, to the man he once was and whom he would like to be again.Somehow I think that Hermione will help him find his way back. This is such an awesome story! Good for you!!!Beth

WOW, thank you so much for your kind words, Beth, this is my first time writting anything for HP. Yep, our man Snape has a long, hard road to hoe before the end, and Hermione will play a part in his journey. I'm working on chapter seven, so I hope to have that finished soon. Again thank you for taking the time to review and rate my little story, it means alot.

Interesting chapter. I always imagine Severus as a painfully conflicted man. Suffering with his self loathing as well as his hate for his 'masters'. One would need to believe in something to get through day by day.I look forward to reading more.

I was puzzled why Snape would be confessing to a murder when he did not appear to have killed anyone.

, in previous chapters it is mentioned and stated that Snape has murdered, two victims mentioned are Chaucer a pederast and Ameilia, a little girl he was forced to kill during a D.E. raid. Snape confesses to each murder he has had to committ 27 in total. Hoped that help, and thank you for your review/comment and rating.

I think you did an excellent job with this chapter. I never thought of Severus with a religious background, however I see your point quite clearly. Most people have a religious belief and with Severus being a halfblood it is easy to see that he is living in two worlds, with ideas and training from both. I think you are the first author who covered this idea in this manner. Great job for making people re-evaluate what we 'know' about Seveus.
Response from CordyAngelSeer (Author of Melancholy Whore)
Thank you, Sinbad, I was actually at an impasse writing, as far as how to humanize Snape, and I've always heard 'Write what you know' so I fudged with Severus' lineage by making him Irish-Catholic. That, and knowing that Severus has a foot in both worlds so to speak, I sometimes forget that he is more than just a wizard. Again, thank you for taking the time to review.

I really pity him and don't envy his curent position. I hope for a best future for him. He deserves redemption I think, despite everything sinful he had, has or will have to do.

Snitchette, thank you for your review and comment, I'm not quite sure what is in store for Snape yet, as I haven't had much time to write. But I will say Umbridge will be showing up soon.
