Book 7 -- The Way it Should Have Been. Harry, Ron, and Hermione don't return to Hogwarts for their seventh year. Instead, they join forces with the Order of the Phoenix to find Voldemort's Horcruxes and save the wizarding world. Members of the Order teach them how to fight. Along the way, Hermione realizes that her feelings for Ron have changed -- and so have her feelings for two other Order members.

I am in my late 50's and I didn't even start reading Harry Potter until after the third book came out. My granddaughter got me 'hooked on Potter,' and while surfing the net one day, I found a fanfiction site. That was it! My first story, "Renaissance," was published on Ashwinder a month later and I've been writing ever since. I am primarily a HG/SS shipper, but I also enjoy reading and writing RL/SS. I live in Tampa, Florida with my wonderfully adoring and supportive husband, and three completely spoiled cats. (Kallie, Mysha, and Smudge {who was the inspiration for the cat that Severus gives Hermione in my story "Renaissance."}) I'm always happy to correspond with my readers and I answer ALL reviews. I'm always looking for plot-bunnies, so feel free to throw some ideas out.
Reviews for Journey out of Darkness
Bad enough to not know the answer, worse to act like a prat when the girl you supposedly fancy does!
Response from StormySkize (Author of Journey out of Darkness)
Bad enough, yes, but hardly surprising. Thanks for reading.
Well there is no doubt that Ron is on the outs. Poor, Severus, everything he has to endure, only to come back and have to put up with Ron's sh_te! It's not right. I wish Ron would get his arse kicked and maybe then the prat will grow up!!
Response from StormySkize (Author of Journey out of Darkness)
Maybe he'll grow up, but then again, maybe he won't. Other than that EWE, I don't think Jo did much to mature his character. Thanks for reading.
Response from beaweasley2 (Reviewer)
Ron was one character that she didn't do anything with, and she built him up just enough to actually have potental! She built up Severus as this 'almost equal to Harry' character - then tosses him away like a used tissue! Not to mention Remus, Fred and Tonks! grrrrr. So I really look forward to following along with you. It's so well written and so far I'm enjoying this take on 'the way it should have been.'
I really hope she tells him that a relationship isn't possible soon. Because I would have reacted to being hurt like that. Ron really is an immature idiot.
Response from StormySkize (Author of Journey out of Darkness)
I'm afraid I have a penchant for Prat!Ron -- and this story is no exception. Thanks for reading.
This is a great story!!! I love it!
Response from StormySkize (Author of Journey out of Darkness)
Thank you so much.
So the ENTIRE Order knows of Severus involvement... Cool. He won't have to jump out of the window!
Response from StormySkize (Author of Journey out of Darkness)
To me, one of the most irritating things about DH was the fact that the rest of Order thought Snape was a traitor who really had murdered Dumbledore. I understand all about 'cells' and 'need to know' and stuff like that, but, come on -- NO ONE else knew whose side Snape was really on? That's just too implausible for me. I may have gone too far the other way in this story, but I just couldn't let Snape continue to be thought of as a traitor by everyone. And, I promise, no window jumpling for Snape in this story. Thanks for reading.
Response from beaweasley2 (Reviewer)
You know, I couldn't agree with you more! That was only ONE of the problems I had with DH. So, I'll be following along with you.
That was intense, looking forward to the next instalment
Response from StormySkize (Author of Journey out of Darkness)
I hope you'll like where this story goes. Thanks for reading.
Wonderful chapter, I love that Harry knows Severus is there to help him.
Response from StormySkize (Author of Journey out of Darkness)
Isn't it too bad that in DH Harry didn't come to that realisaztion until AFTER Snape was dead?? Thanks for reading.
Feel pretty bad for 'Dora cos Remus doesn't return her feelings.
Response from StormySkize (Author of Journey out of Darkness)
At least Remus doesn't lead her on or pretend. Thanks for reading.
Cool start!
Response from StormySkize (Author of Journey out of Darkness)
I hope you'll enjoy the rest of the story, as well. Thanks for reading.
That was so amazingly disturbing. I'm surprised old Voldie is able to get it up.
Response from StormySkize (Author of Journey out of Darkness)
I hope that 'amazingly disturbing' is a compliment. I wanted to express just how much Snape is willing to sacrifice for duty. Thanks for reading.
Response from blue artemis (Reviewer)
Oh, it was definitely a compliment. You really did manage to show exactly what Snape is willing to do for the side of the light.
Gah!!!! You can't leave us hanging there? The next scene has so much potential and I hope to see it soon. I love the use of the Unbreakable Vow and how Minerva admits it is needed reluctantly. I think it is a very good touch. So far you are giving a very good take on how DH could have played out; it fits quite nicely with the end of HBP
Response from StormySkize (Author of Journey out of Darkness)
Come on back and read Chapter 3! I'm happy to know you think I'm doing a good job. Thanks for reading.
Interesting start. I look forward to seeing where it goes. I like the subtle changes to what happened at the beginning of DH
Response from StormySkize (Author of Journey out of Darkness)
I actually started writing this story before DH came out. After the release of DH, I was in such shock that I didn't write anything for a long time. I hardly even read any stories. When I read about the Potter Place Challenge and realised that one of the prompts was to write your own version of book 7, I knew I had to do it. Since this story picked up where HBP left off, it seemed the perfect way to get back to writing. DH disappointed me on so many levels. Writing stories like this allows me to keep that world alive for me in a way that DH just didn't. I hope you will enjoy my story. Thanks for reading.
A fantastic update!! I think I am going to love this story very, very much:-))
Response from StormySkize (Author of Journey out of Darkness)
I certainly hope you will. Thanks for reading.
Here come the fireworks !!!
Response from StormySkize (Author of Journey out of Darkness)
Fireworks, indeed. I hope I evoke some 'oohs' and 'ahs'. Thanks for reading.
Oh, brilliant! I just knew the rest of the order could not have been so ignorant that Severus had to do what he did! Very good thing Harry took his Vow before Severus came in.
Response from StormySkize (Author of Journey out of Darkness)
Oh, definitely had to have Harry's Vow in place before revealing Snape's role. And yes, why didn't the rest of the Order know what was going on?? Dumbledore left far too much to chance, IMHO. Thanks for reading.
First of all, thank you for the update. Seccond, I think I can very easily become adicted to this story. So far I find your version a lot more interesting than DH, and I look forward to see if you can, and have all kind of hope that you will, keep my interest up until the wery end:-)
Response from StormySkize (Author of Journey out of Darkness)
I, too, hope my story will keep you interested. It is a far different version of book 7 than the one presented by Ms Rowling. Thanks for reading.
Yay!!! Severus shows up. Can't wait to read Harry's reaction!
Response from StormySkize (Author of Journey out of Darkness)
Harry's reaction will be ... predictable. What happens after won't be -- I hope! Thanks for reading.
Ohhh cool. So where are you taking us next in this tale? Eh?
Response from StormySkize (Author of Journey out of Darkness)
I hope to take you somewhere far, far away from DH. Thanks for reading.
Good thing Minerva got the vow before Severous showed up. Mean author, cruel cliffie *laughs.
Response from StormySkize (Author of Journey out of Darkness)
Oh, I didn't mean for it to be a cruel cliffie. That just seemed like the natural place to stop. Thanks for reading.
I like how you worked the unbreakable vow in, I was going "huh, they mentioned Pettigrew but not Snape..."
Response from StormySkize (Author of Journey out of Darkness)
As Minerva told Harry on his birthday, "The Order will deal with Severus Snape." And they did. Thanks for reading.
Nice start, will be interesting to see your take on their 7th year.
Response from StormySkize (Author of Journey out of Darkness)
It will certainly go in a far different direction than Ms Rowling's book 7. Thanks for reading.
A very promising start! I look forward to the story unfolding!
Response from StormySkize (Author of Journey out of Darkness)
I hope you will enjoy my version of book 7. Thanks for reading.
I like your beginning. I feel for Remus, too bad he just won't let love in. I wonder what you have in store for Harry's birthday? Waht is this information he's to get?
Response from StormySkize (Author of Journey out of Darkness)
Remus is one of my favourite characters. I was quite ticked when Jo killed him off. As to the information Harry will receive ... read chapters 2 (now up) and 3 (in queue). I hope you'll enjoy. Thanks for reading.
A very interesting start, I have high hopes that you will make this a very good read:-) Update again soon, I look forward to read more!!!
Response from StormySkize (Author of Journey out of Darkness)
I hope you'll find it a good read. Thank you.
This is already a better beginning. I wonder what is going on that they cant tell Harry until he has turned 17?
Response from StormySkize (Author of Journey out of Darkness)
I can only encourage you to come back and read Chapter 2 (now up) and subsequent chapters as they appear. Thank you!
