Book 7 -- The Way it Should Have Been. Harry, Ron, and Hermione don't return to Hogwarts for their seventh year. Instead, they join forces with the Order of the Phoenix to find Voldemort's Horcruxes and save the wizarding world. Members of the Order teach them how to fight. Along the way, Hermione realizes that her feelings for Ron have changed -- and so have her feelings for two other Order members.

I am in my late 50's and I didn't even start reading Harry Potter until after the third book came out. My granddaughter got me 'hooked on Potter,' and while surfing the net one day, I found a fanfiction site. That was it! My first story, "Renaissance," was published on Ashwinder a month later and I've been writing ever since. I am primarily a HG/SS shipper, but I also enjoy reading and writing RL/SS. I live in Tampa, Florida with my wonderfully adoring and supportive husband, and three completely spoiled cats. (Kallie, Mysha, and Smudge {who was the inspiration for the cat that Severus gives Hermione in my story "Renaissance."}) I'm always happy to correspond with my readers and I answer ALL reviews. I'm always looking for plot-bunnies, so feel free to throw some ideas out.
Reviews for Journey out of Darkness
You really don't like Ron - wow. Ron is certainly not my favorite character but oh boy - I don't want to like your Ron. But, what I do like is the story and how you are using Ron as a device to mature Harry (Hermione was always mature). I like Ron's effect on the others - it's binding them together. Another great chap!
Response from StormySkize (Author of Journey out of Darkness)
All I can say is that while Ron isn't my favourite character, I have my reasons for portraying him the way I have. Those reasons will become clear as the story unfolds, although things (Ron) will get worse before it (he) gets better. I'm glad you're enjoying the story. Thanks for reading.
Interesting twist on the story compared to DH. Ron is being very much an idiot and I must say I'm not particularly pleased with McGonagall at the moment either outing Severus like that. Very tactless.I hope we get to see more of Hereward the dragon, though. He was rather cute.
Response from StormySkize (Author of Journey out of Darkness)
I'm glad you liked Hereward. Remember that Hogwarts' motto is 'Never tickle a sleeping dragon.' I couldn't resist.I really never meant to make Minerva a 'bad guy'. I only wanted to show just how far Snape would go to fulfil his duty to the Order. I just thought that Harry would never truly believe in Snape's loyalty unless it were proven in a very dramatic way. In DH, Snape had to die before Harry believed it!As for Ron ... well, Ron is Ron, isn't he?Thanks for reading.
This is a fabulous chapter!!!
Response from StormySkize (Author of Journey out of Darkness)
Thank you so much.
Nice sneaking Golden Trio.. or is it quartet now?
Response from StormySkize (Author of Journey out of Darkness)
I doubt Snape would ever consider himself part of a Golden Quartet, but now that Harry and Hermione have grown up, he can certainly work with them. I'm not sure there's any hope for Ron, however. Thanks for reading.
I love that Ron is being the biggest idiot. That is kind of sweetly innocent.
Response from StormySkize (Author of Journey out of Darkness)
'swwetly innocent', huh? (Author whistles tunelessly, in a 'just you wait and see' sort of way.) Thanks for reading.
Thank you so much for the update. I have said so before, but I will say it again: I really love your version of book seven. So far it is way more interesting and intriguing than DH:-))Update again soon!
Response from StormySkize (Author of Journey out of Darkness)
What a great compliment. I hope you'll continue to enjoy. Thanks for reading.
Excellent chapter, I love how you have Hermione actually doing things to help.
Response from StormySkize (Author of Journey out of Darkness)
Thank you so much.
Ooh - I hope Snape is ok. Great chap! You are doing a good job of sowing seeds of discontent between Hermione and Ron and ultimately Harry and Ron too I think - I just hope that Ron doesn't turn into a complete jerk. I hope he eventually comes around.
Response from StormySkize (Author of Journey out of Darkness)
I'm not overly fond of Ron as a character. I think that Jo didn't treat him very well through most of DH, and I've merely accentuated that. I hope you will continue to enjoy the story. Thanks for reading.
Wow, Ron is such a complete and utter prat! If he's not careful, he is going to endanger all of them and ruin all their plans.Sometimes I think he shoud just go back to the Burrow.
Response from StormySkize (Author of Journey out of Darkness)
Ah, a reader after my own heart! Thanks for reading.
I just found this story - nice! I look forward to an update!
Response from StormySkize (Author of Journey out of Darkness)
Thank you so much.
So far, I have to say, I wish you had written book 7! It all makes a lote more sense already.I love the Severus-hermione interaction. You make it seem very real and plausable.
Response from StormySkize (Author of Journey out of Darkness)
'real and plausible' is a wonderful compliment. I'm glad you're enjoying. Thanks for reading.
I really like the fact that Harry is standing up for Severus. It shows how much he has matured, especially in contrast to what a prat Ron is!
Response from StormySkize (Author of Journey out of Darkness)
Yes, Harry has grown up quite a bit, hasn't he? Thanks for reading.
Love Hereward , can we have more of him?
Response from StormySkize (Author of Journey out of Darkness)
Isn't Hereward fun? I loved writing him and I'm happy that my readers like him, as well. Thanks for reading.
Good Lord! I Think Minerva could have been a little more tactful than that!! Espcially when dealing with such a private man as Severus. I am glad that Harry is finally coming around though.
Response from StormySkize (Author of Journey out of Darkness)
I never meant to make Minerva mean or even tactless. I just needed something really dramatic to prove to Harry where Snape's true loyalties lie. I think Snape understood her motivations, and while he wasn't happy with having that information made public, he accepted its necessity. Thanks for reading.
Well, that put Harry and Ron in their places. At least now Harry doesn't have any doubts as to which side Snape is on.
Response from StormySkize (Author of Journey out of Darkness)
Exactly the point I wanted to make, although Ron is still somewhat of a prat about it. Thanks for reading.
Yay! And Snape's back. I always felt we saw way too little of him in DH - well I thought we saw way too little of most of the cast actually, but especially Snape and Draco (considering their large roles in the previous book). Looking forward to seeing where this is going.
Response from StormySkize (Author of Journey out of Darkness)
I hope you will continue to enjoy the story. I promise lots of Snape and absolutely no camping! Thanks for reading.
I rather enjoyed that chapter. I liked the little details.
Response from StormySkize (Author of Journey out of Darkness)
I'm glad you enjoyed, however I will invite you to go back and re-read the chapter, especially near the end. Somehow during the posting a pretty important transistional scene was left out. It has now been added and makes the first scene of Chapter Six make a whole lot more sense! Thanks for reading.
I'm surprised that Severus hadn't thought of ibuprofen, he is after all a half blood. Then again, he is a spy and Voldermort is definately anti muggle.
Response from StormySkize (Author of Journey out of Darkness)
I'm not sure when ibuprofen hit the market, but perhaps it was after Snape pretty much withdrew from the Muggle world. (That's my story and I'm sticking to it.) Thanks for reading.
I,m enjoying this story and I must say that your title is especially apt regarding Severus
Response from StormySkize (Author of Journey out of Darkness)
I'm glad you're enjoying ... and I thought the title was appropriate, as well. Thanks for reading.
Thank you so much for the update! I really like your take on book 7. The interaction between Severus and Hermione is great and I love that he have someone in his corner who understands and accept him as he is. Update again soon!!!
Response from StormySkize (Author of Journey out of Darkness)
I'm glad you enjoyed the chapter, but I invite you to go back and re-read it, especially near the end. Somehow during the posting, a transitional scene was left out. (My fault, honest; SW does a great job!) Anyway, I think you'll find that the beginning of Chapter Six makes more sense now than it did before. There's also some HG/SS interaction that's pretty important to the story. Thanks for reading.
I'm not surprised Ron acted as a jerk. Sometimes he just doesn't think. Great chapter, maybe Hermione will look around and see Severus in a new light.
Response from StormySkize (Author of Journey out of Darkness)
I think that Hermione already sees Snape quite differently than Harry and Ron do. Thanks for reading.
Nice job showing the trio's POV of things. It's very well written and I love that Harry is actually learning from Snape and realizing that he does have something of value to teach them. Of course I love him coming into the kitchen for quiz time. LOL Very nicely done with Ron the git as well. :)
Response from StormySkize (Author of Journey out of Darkness)
Thanks so much, I'm glad you're enjoying.
You did not disappoint me with the scene. Yippee!!! I love Snape snarking on Harry. LOL But oh, how I feel for poor Severus having been abused by the DEs, but I can see them doing that sort of thing. I'm itnerested in seeing where Harry and Snape working together goes. :D
Response from StormySkize (Author of Journey out of Darkness)
I promise it will go better than it did during Harry's Occlumency lessons with Snape! Thanks for reading.
I think that the story-line is great, the idea a unique one. The characters seem quite in-character. What I don't care for is the concept of Snape being raped by Voldemort. I think that Voldemort was too far gone into the realms of dark magic to make sex of any kind necessary to him, and if not, there was always Bella. While Snape undoubtedly suffered at the hand of Voldemort, this strikes me as simply gratuitous sex. But, maybe it's just me. JMHO
Response from StormySkize (Author of Journey out of Darkness)
I'm sorry that you think I've written 'gratuitous sex.' That was never my intention, and the sex between Snape and Voldemort is NEVER described, only referred to. I can't say too much more about their relationship without giving away some plot (do I sound like Jo?), but I hope you'll continue to read the story. Thank you.
I love the slow build of the ship between Sev and Mia!!! Great Job!!!
Response from StormySkize (Author of Journey out of Darkness)
Thank you so much.
