Seventh-year student Hermione Granger decides to marry the one eligible wizard who did not ask for her--the horrid but powerful Severus Snape. All is not sweetness and light. Be careful what you ask for. Or, as has been said by many a wise witch, "Marry in haste; repent in leisure." MLC

Care of Magical Creatures recently received two awards on "Secrets of the Dark Vaults," a Russian fanfic site. Best NC-17 and Best Maxi Translation. The Nine-Year Plan was awarded Best Mini-Fic! I'm delighted to be in translation and to please the readers in Russia!

With the completion of Care of Magical Creatures my fanfic output is going to slow way down, but if you want to be sure to know when new fics post, please follow me on twitter. I don't tweet much, but I'll surely tweet that kind of thing.
About Mia
I came to the world of Harry Potter relatively early, after first resisting it because it just seemed too trendy. But when the first book came out in paperback in the US I picked it up at the airport when I was about to catch a flight, and two chapters in knew I would be ordering the original from amazon.co.uk in hardcover as soon as I landed.
I came to fanfic late, waiting until after I'd read DH. That means I've been totally obsessed with the fanfic world of Harry Potter, and most specifically the SS/HG ship, since August of '07.
I'm helplessly and hopelessly hooked.

I wanted to take a moment and let you know how much I am loving your story!!! It is my all-time favorite Marriage-Law fic and it was exactly these fics that brought me into the Hermione-Severus world. Thank you so much for this wonderful world that you allow all of us to linger in.

I read this chapter two days ago and didn't leave a review because I wanted to take my time to think about my response. However, I find that there are no more compliments or interjections that I can add in regards to the plot with all its twist, excellent dialogue and in-depth character development that the other reviewers haven't already given. Take a bow. What I would like to comment on is your intriguing use of Christian symbolism. While everyone has pointed out the similarities between this story and Star Wars, I have found myself wrapped up in the religious intricacies you have written into your story. As someone who is orthodox in her faith, let me say I do not find this sacrilegious at all. Hermione's description of the mysticism that surrounds the Eucharist and wedding vows was written very well and shows the fallibility of the magical world in its presumptions about muggles. That "Magic is might" is not true when muggles can do through technology almost anything the magical world can and have access to a spiritual power as well.I got my first inkling that Voldemort's tie to Severus was more than just master and servant in chapter 53 when Severus is offered the chalice:"Take" the Dark Lord said, as Severus knelt before him. "Drink."I can't describe the shiver that went down my spine.Add in tears of blood, the use of linen to wipe away those tears, memories offered up like a thithe, baptism, confirmation, Severus comes broken before his father, Voldemort treating his followers like children, the story of Abraham and Isaac, the scents that fill the room like incense, red wine, the fact there was a vicar at the wedding... need I go on? But the greatest part of this story is how you hae convinced the reader that these two unlikely lovers are willing to sacrifice themselves for each other all in the name of love, that is breathtaking. So much for Lily. For someone who is new to fanfiction you have done a superb job. Care of Magical Creatures will forever have a place on my list of favorite storyies as you will have a place on my list of favorite authors. I do have two questions, is there any significance to the number of elfin goblets (16 between Sev's and Volde's sets), and well never mind. Thanks again for an interesting twist on a truly great fic.

Thank you so much for your wonderful review. The fact is that Star Wars and many epics actually have religious undertones, though I'll admit you found some in my story that I hadn't even considered!
There is no significance to the number of goblets they have, other than I thought the stemware was in two boxes and Sev ended up with one and the DL the other, but if you see significance I missed feel free to clue me in!
Again, thank you! I truly loved reading your reactions.

Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
I'm glad you liked it. (I know, the Luuuuke! thing is inevitable, but to be a truly Star Wars moment wouldn't the DL have to be Harry's daddy?)
Thank you for the review!!!
Response from klschmidt (Reviewer)
True enough, but since Severus is the REAL hero of the HP universe..... (snerk!) ;-)

The first part was totally overwhelming but I was deadly struck by the last revelation. When GinnyW made your pimpage of this chapter she said it was one of your best. She was absolutely right and I ever wonder how you manage to make each new chapter better than the previous. I hope for many many many others to come.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thank you so much. GinnyW is amazing. I can't begin to express how much her support and beta talents mean to me and how much they have enhanced my story. And of course, as always, your review makes me so happy!Thank you!

Holy !*@#. That was unexpected. I won't even ask if Dumbledore knew because that old bastard knows all. To keep this from Severus was cruel, even for him. What happens now? Will she accept him when she finds out? I love this fic and every chaper makes me love it just a little bit more.

Hiya! I've been reading this story from the beginning. I know you're interested in the fan reaction to this story...and I must admit I'm more than a little confused.Let me start with what I liked. Your writing - is beautiful. I love any author's ability to keep me on the edge of my seat. You are very gifted in that regard. What i'm having the most difficulty with is content. The twist with Hermione was shocking. It drew me in. I couldn't believe that she would go to this extreme. I couldn't wait to see how things unfolded. That Severus went to the Dark Lord - that too caused me to shout at my screen. But now that it's revealed that ol' Tom is Sev's Father? I'm feeling a little disappointed. I've enough faith to continue reading to see how this story ends, but I feel like I've just witnessed a "Jump the Shark" moment. It felt too "Star Wars" and trivialized the situation. While I wondered about Dumbledore's comment several chapters earlier, I never though that it truly was forecasting "daddy dearest." Canon is that Voldemort just simply doesn't have it in him to love - now perhaps this is a twisted love. But I'm not seeing how this avenue is relevant. To me it would be far more impactful for Severus to "sell his soul" than to now embark on his trail of "daddy issues."Regardless - I know that you're looking for reaction. :) I'll most definitely continue reading - if only to see how it all ends (as i've said before) but I'm now very wary.

Thank you so much for your careful review. Yes, you're right, I do want your reactions, and I'm not surprised that this particular story twist struck someone--maybe a lot of people--this way. I did worry about it a lot, but I finally had to go with it because the story has been crafted in this direction for a long time.Would you believe that I really didn't think of it as a "Star Wars" moment until I'd gotten pretty vested in it? It is, of course, although I'd think the more classic Star Wars moment would have been Harry, not Sev.The story isn't finished yet. I hope I'm able to overcome your wariness, but I do appreciate your reaction and how graciously and diplomatically you shared it.

Holly crap!!!! O.OThe Dark Lord? Severus' father? Oh dear... Poor Severus. He didn't deserve that. Mia, you're a wicked evil woman to put Sev through this. And poor Hermione!?! The chapter was brilliant, but it's so much pain... Please write and fix this all. Please...

Oooh!!!! Bombshell! Still, it would be wise to remember that one cannot choose one's family, and any man can father a child, but it takes someone special to be a dad. I wonder what her reaction is going to be. Things just kkep getting more convoluted and interesting. Can't wait for more.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Wise words for Father's Day!It's something to consider, though--how Sev's life might have been different had he had a "dad" in his life.Thank you so much for your review!

I'll have you know that this is the first time that I've ever left a review for anyone on any site, but I just had to tell you how much I am enjoying this story. Your style is compelling, leaving me almost breathless in anticipation. When I see a notification that CoMC has been updated, I can't wait to read it. I drop everything to concentrate on the story, and when I reach the end, there is a feeling of letdown that I am at the end and that there is no more. Happily you don't keep us waiting for long stretches of time before the next installment. I really loved the twist in this last chapter. I didn't see that one coming. It had the same feeling to it, a swooping, missed-that-last-step feeling, as when Darth Vader was revealed as Luke's father. Very nice touch. As I said before, your style is, I think, unique and very compelling. The idea of using sentence fragments to convey thoughts sounds like it would be choppy and difficult to follow, but it works very well. And to me at least, gives an intensity to their thoughts and feelings that really makes the characters come alive. I look forward to reading your next installment.

Your review is so helpful--all the things you share, from how the story makes you feel to the fact that some of my stylistic choices (sentence fragments, for example) enhance the story rather than confuse you.I can't thank you enough for sharing your reactions with me. They help more than you can know.

You do realise you make it harder for yourself. Every chapter is better than the previous, which then sets the precedent for the next! Just when the reader thinks all the twists have been revealed and is relaxing in their chair, BANG! along comes another and knocks us for six.You are a wonderful storyteller Mia! :)

Oh yes, I do realize that. Certain elements of this story are killing me, not just because they hurt my heart but because they're so difficult to get right-- or at least, I try to make them work so that they feel "right."
