Seventh-year student Hermione Granger decides to marry the one eligible wizard who did not ask for her--the horrid but powerful Severus Snape. All is not sweetness and light. Be careful what you ask for. Or, as has been said by many a wise witch, "Marry in haste; repent in leisure." MLC

Care of Magical Creatures recently received two awards on "Secrets of the Dark Vaults," a Russian fanfic site. Best NC-17 and Best Maxi Translation. The Nine-Year Plan was awarded Best Mini-Fic! I'm delighted to be in translation and to please the readers in Russia!

With the completion of Care of Magical Creatures my fanfic output is going to slow way down, but if you want to be sure to know when new fics post, please follow me on twitter. I don't tweet much, but I'll surely tweet that kind of thing.
About Mia
I came to the world of Harry Potter relatively early, after first resisting it because it just seemed too trendy. But when the first book came out in paperback in the US I picked it up at the airport when I was about to catch a flight, and two chapters in knew I would be ordering the original from amazon.co.uk in hardcover as soon as I landed.
I came to fanfic late, waiting until after I'd read DH. That means I've been totally obsessed with the fanfic world of Harry Potter, and most specifically the SS/HG ship, since August of '07.
I'm helplessly and hopelessly hooked.

This is my third reading of your lovely story. It's been at least a year or so since the last time. perhaps I should get a life but your Severus is so addicting. I'm sure Hermione has no idea how insulting she was being, but she has a quick mind and has hopefully seen the error in her reasoning. But then, with her lack of life experience, maybe not quite yet. I'm sure Professor Snape will set her straight, but then again, now that I think about it, wouldn't it be more fun to let her keep her ridiculous assumptions and prove her wrong after it's too late to back out? Rut, indeed!
Crazy scary thought, that, "The Dark Lord loved him." Damn! Does that creep him out or make him happy?
I've just re-read this glorious piece of fiction. I was thinking about plot and pacing. I began wondering "how did Mia get from the brilliant begining into her middle" and used that as an excuse to start reading again. Oh my. Structurally you surprised me. I'd forgotten the amazing first chapter that sucks you in and the clever way you add the backstory to heighten the emotional resonance but also the danger and the stakes. And your characters, you dear, dear generous writer. This is a wonderful story about a marriage. Everyone time I've read this I'm amazed at how you've created these characters who need each other in order to be something more than they are on their own. Transcendent. Absolutely beautiful.

I have no answers for how things worked out the way they did. I started writing this within a few weeks of reading my first fanfic, thinking it would be short, hot and funny. By chapter five, Snape had taken it away from me and all I could do was hang on for the ride. It was like... magic. Thank you so much for your remarks.
awwww u cudda wrote to milk more of its worth, so tis chapter is longer.
Put your had down you silly girl. You have it all figured out but you lacked important information and made some assumptions based on said lack of information that aren't completely true and without taking into consideration that some of those men, like George might actually be hurt because they really did like the thought of marrying you. I know you are unaware of how men's minds work and wouldn't think that anyone at all would really be hoping to marry you unless it was out of spite, and thus, it didn't occure that anyone would be hurt. You may have bitten off more than you can comfortably chew now. I do believe Severus Snape is the one for you. But he is going to need subtle but long term husband training. You are also going to need to try to see things from his persective. This sounds like a real wild ride. It should be quite the little roller coaster of love!
.
I remember starting to read this story years ago, but then fell out of reading fanfic for a few years. I was thrilled to find it finished, and just as amazing as I remembered. Thanks for writing. I'd love to see a brief sequel with their kids...especially if Gussie meets George W and that makes Severus crazy. :D
Aww, and we finally see where the title fits in. Lively ending. I'd started to read this ages ago on another forum (can't remember which), but never had finished it.. Maybe it wasn't finished at the time.. Anyways, glad I found it again, great story and I love happy endings lol. Thank you for sharing your work, and giving my dear professor a happy ending in this story! That always means the world to me.
What a marvolous story! Wonderfully written.
*does ridiculously lame happy dance* Brewing time!!
I'm glad the the twins aren't holding a grudge. They're good guys. Severus doesn't realize that the Weasley twins were just escorts.. and that they were there to keep her from hexing Malfoy, not the other way around.
I'm so PROUD of Hermione. She handled it much better than I would have.
This is one of my favorite chapters. I really, REALLY adore your Hooch.
Neither wants to take the fall for the night snuggles. That's so cute. At least they're both able to write it off. ;)
I'm glad he told those puppy kickers off!... Oh, and I'm also glad that I was never married to a teenaged boy in a magical boarding school. Yep.
Heeeee! They're gonna "brew".
This story may win the prize for the most angst... ever. (Have I told you that I love angst more than anything?)
(I'm ba-ack)
I think it's awesome how Severus still runs to protect Harry (even if it's also to protect Hermione). Poor Ron...at least the truth is out.
I hope to finish this re-re-re-re.... re-read before the weekend. ;)
Short, but so tender. :)
Oh, Albus is a real shit. I'm glad she fought like fucking hell.. and I love how she calls him Professor and he calls her Miss Granger (while insisting to everyone else that she's Madam Snape). It is an endearing formality.
Oh, I miss the days when I could simply... simply.
Oh, how humiliating... and I'm glad he was able to laugh about it.
I love the part about needing a wife or a whore. There are so many things that ring so true, even when your life contains no death eaters or dark lords.
I, too, find that I remain perfectly reasonable, but the men in my life turn into idiots once a month.

Ha ha ha! I stole that from a friend with four sons and a husband, who claimed she wouldn't believe in pms, not getting it herself, if she didn't witness the men in her family all getting it each and every month right before her period!

I love how he's petulant, even when he's good to her.

I don't think I can ever enjoy writing anything as much as I enjoyed writing this. The Snape that developed in my head from all the wonderful Snapes that came before him was just incredible to write.

Oh, my... what a way to dampen the mood. He needed to know that she might be doing a BIT of suffering.

I'm nt sure whether to blame this one on him being Snape or being male.

Damn, Professor, must you take everything so personally?
Oh, of course he must.
