Seventh-year student Hermione Granger decides to marry the one eligible wizard who did not ask for her--the horrid but powerful Severus Snape. All is not sweetness and light. Be careful what you ask for. Or, as has been said by many a wise witch, "Marry in haste; repent in leisure." MLC

Care of Magical Creatures recently received two awards on "Secrets of the Dark Vaults," a Russian fanfic site. Best NC-17 and Best Maxi Translation. The Nine-Year Plan was awarded Best Mini-Fic! I'm delighted to be in translation and to please the readers in Russia!

With the completion of Care of Magical Creatures my fanfic output is going to slow way down, but if you want to be sure to know when new fics post, please follow me on twitter. I don't tweet much, but I'll surely tweet that kind of thing.
About Mia
I came to the world of Harry Potter relatively early, after first resisting it because it just seemed too trendy. But when the first book came out in paperback in the US I picked it up at the airport when I was about to catch a flight, and two chapters in knew I would be ordering the original from amazon.co.uk in hardcover as soon as I landed.
I came to fanfic late, waiting until after I'd read DH. That means I've been totally obsessed with the fanfic world of Harry Potter, and most specifically the SS/HG ship, since August of '07.
I'm helplessly and hopelessly hooked.
Reviews for Care of Magical Creatures
I loved the discription of the wedding, everything was so frantic that it was like being swept up in a whirlwind. What a special touch to have Hagrid as the witness, he did seem the perfect person.Could the Dark Lord have worse timing? I'm not sure who the consummation was worse for Hermione or Severus. I hope they have a chance to do things right in the near future. I mean seriously OUCH!
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
It was horrid for both of them, wasn't it? I just couldn't see things working out between them, but when that happened, it even caught me off guard.
I was thrilled by the way McGonagall let Hermione know how selfish she was being. It showed how much Mcgonagall cares for Severus. Hermione never thought about what this would cost Severus, she only thought about her self. Shame on her :)An angry Snape is a very sexy Snape, I hope we will see more of him in future chapters. He is so full of passion when he is angry like this.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
This Snape is very passionate, but he has to hold it in so much. So when it erupts, it erupts!Thank you!
I love this chapter. It was great to see Severus try to control the situation from the minute they went to Dumbledors office. He does seem to want this marriage to go forward, I wonder what his reasons are.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Once she brought him into it, he took over, eh?Thank you so much for the review!
The ending was beautiful. This was really really well done.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thank you so very much for letting me know. It was very difficult to let go of this story, and I love knowing that other people enjoy it.
I have been absolutely riveted by this story, tempted to print it out so I could carry it with me to read anywhere. This chapter was amazing!!!! A lot of SS/HG fiction overlooks Severus's inherently Dark side, but you express it in a way that takes away its stigma and is just revealed as a part of life. I can't wait to keep reading this, but am loathe to finish.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
To know that my story touched you is a balm to my soul! Thank you so much!
A beautiful ending to a wonderful story. Thank you.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thank you for your response to it. I'm so happy you liked it.
Ok. I'm going to stop reading now. Not because I want to stop, because I've been reading all morning (and last night too) and can't put it down and I'm not getting a damn bit of housework done because this fic has ensnared me so thoroughly that I'm now blowing off the things I should be doing and... Hell, I didn't even want to stop to leave a review up until now, because whenever I got to the end of a chapter, I just wanted to get on to the next chapter. *whew* Suffice it to say, I'm hooked (even if it is yet another MLC fic!), and I can't wait to get back to it and read the rest. Thank you for such an entertaining distraction!
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
I don't have enough words to express how much your review means to me! These characters lived with me 24/7 for over eighteen months as I was writing, and are still deep in my heart even though I've now been away from the actual writing for several months. To know that people still discover it and it brings them pleasure moves me more than I can say.Thank you.
I like most of the story although not all the swearing. I am not against swearing as such but I am against Snape using it all the time. I mean when you think in yur head do you say fuck all the time, i certainly dont. I think it sounds dumb and un-intelligent but that might just be me of course. Hmmm Snape seems a bit childish as well... I wonder if Lucius will plot some more revenge though.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
I apologize for the swearing. I know it bothered a lot of people, but a lot of others thought it very realistic to his character and background. However, I have to admit that I did not make a conscious decision to have him swear, and I found I couldn't write him w/o it. It was the vocabulary he leaped onto the page with, and I was just along for the ride!I hope you continue to enjoy the story despite it!
This was a wonderfully well written story. Thank you!
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thank you so very much!
I adore this chapter where Severus meets Lord and Lady Granger. I've read many senerios for the Grangers, but never anything like this. It really makes for some interesting thought on how Hermione is shaped by her background. Plus who doesn't love a look at the English aristocracy. I love the exchanges between Severus and Lady Granger, and then the embarrassing mother/daughter chat Hermione endures. I think by the end of the chapter Hermione and Severus were both feeling as if their universes had been shifted for them.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
When I wrote this I didn't realize how closely people usually stick to canon on things, and just was looking for something new to do since I'd seen dentists done a thousand times. I'm lucky I didn't catch hell for it, now that I understand the way people like canon, but fortunately people were amused by the aristo!Grangers.
Response from blackeyedlily (Reviewer)
Amused indeed! Plus since the wholre story was AU, I thought it rocked!
This chapter was quite an emotional ride, especially for Severus. I loved his inspiration on how to create a 'sated' expression on Ms. Granger's face. Then I could feel his pang of recognition for Ron Weasley's feelings and Hermione's seemingly ambivalence about it, as well as his astonishment that Hermione had cared for him by herself. The Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff gifts were a treat, as were the embarrassed reactions by the Slythrins and Gryffindors, and Luna's loony pronouncement. Your view of the Slytherin common room and Severus' first night interaction with the students from Hermione's view was touching. Then the final interaction between our couple, with Hermione's request that Severus pledge to never let their children feel that they were unwanted is heartwarming and heartwrenching.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
I think Severus would sympathise with Ron in this kind of situation. He was a teenaged boy who watch his love walk off with another, after all.
Mia, I don't know where to begin. Truth is, I'm kind of wrung out by the whole thing! :)This has been such a great story, and there are too many things I've loved and appreciated about it to list. You've had me up on the heights of bliss, in the depths of terror, half mad with anxiety, and a great many times I have wanted to do serious violence to Albus! Mostly, I just loved reading the relationship between Miss Granger and her Professor in the way that you created it - how the two really did become one, how they both changed by uniting, and how each couldn't exist without the other.I also love that you named the child Augusta (isn't that Neville's gran also?). A friend of mine has a dog much like their 'Albus' named Augusta! Thanks for writing this splendid, absolutely splendid story, and for sharing it with all of us.

It has taken me an entire month to respond to this, but please don't think that means I don't appreciate it. It made my heart sing when I first read it, and does so again.Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
That was so wonderful. What a fantastic and touching story. What a sweet and tender ending. I am so glad they didn't have a baby named Jehovah.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thank you so much for your reviews. I really loved going on the journey again with you. And no, Jehovah just wouldn't have worked!
Yuck! I don't want Hermione to do anything to help Lucius or Albus. I could live with the Lucius one, if she said in her testimony that she believes him to be a prejudiced hateful horrid man married to a woman of the same character and spawning a child of the same character, but who happened to save her life. Albus was willing to have Hermione die! He was very cruel to Severus. I don't believe for a second he cares for Severus! Not after the way he treated him and showed such a lack of concern. Yuck! I am really enjoying this, though.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
When I wrote this I wondered how upset people would be, but not only did Severus have a complicated life with complicated relationships, I also think he didn't have a lot of friends and perhaps was a bit too loyal? I dunno. It just felt very real to me, that he would do this.
WOW! That was so nerve wracking exciting! You totally fooled me. I was expecting Bellatrix, not Lucius. And then Hermione shot her! How thrilling. I was expecting a sword or dagger, but a gun is certainly better. Great chapter!
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thanks. I loved writing the gun!!!
OMG, it's just like Star Wars! When's the lightning going to come out of Voldemort's fingers?
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Oh dear. I hope I didn't do lightning. LOL!
OMG, Voldemort is Severus' father?! Well, isn't this a surprising little twist. Well done.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thanks. I'm glad that twist didn't send you screaming into traffic!
Minerva has no excuse for her abominable behavior towards Hermione! And now she's playing nice after guilting Hermine into quitting her classes. Hello! Supporting what's right sometimes has consequences like students transfering out. I am so tired of Hermione getting all this shit piled on her. Hermione was right. They should be outraged at the marriage law, not her personal life! I do like your story, though. I'm just mad at your characters.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
You know, so many marriage laws have been written and I'd seen it handled so many different ways, but almost always it seemed that Hermione was surrounded by strong support with people helping her. I didn't deliberately plan something different, but in an effort to approach this in a different way, I think I ended up going in a different direction just to find new ways to explore the story. But most importantly, I liked creating situations where Severus and Hermione were dependent upon one another and not off getting advice/support from others.
Okay, so Albus showed some kindness finally to Hermione, but I am still pissed at him for almost killing her. He owes her a HUGE apology for that. I am pissed at her friends for not showing her more support. Harry should be reaming Albus for almost killing her. And I am pissed at her teachers for being hugely unprofessional and treating her differently and badly. Grow up! Severus being a dick off and on is expected. I am surprised Hermione has been handling everything as well as she has.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Throughout this fic I saw Albus as a general who makes his decisions based on the big picture, and is ruthless about it, but also shows kindness when he doesn't think it jeopardizes his plans. Not a particularly happy portrayal, but I don't think I ever had him do anything that was worse than he did in canon. It was an interesting thing to work with.Thank you so much for your review!
This is turning out to be one of the sweetest and most realistic, (under the circumstances!) romances I have had the pleasure to read. I would like to say to the author that you have done an amazing and truly teriffic work in keeping the storyline believeable without making "much ado about, well, very little" in the 'marriage law. It is the most believeable MLC I've encountered, as HG would have, without a doubt, more offers than the cliched choice between a selection of Weasleys or big, bad DeathEating Malfoy's.I find this to be entirely credible and within the realm of believability, or, if you will, possibility. I can certainly understand and appreciate why it has been such a long time coming to completion. You have certainly put a vast amount (and your wonderful betas, we can't slight their efforts) into weaving such a wonderful piece of magic for all of us fan-fic readers. Thank you for giving this to us. I am enthralled. *Also, I would like to express my deep admiration that you have refrained from the overdone spells and potions that just aren't likely. (i.e. levitating sexual positions, 'The Amazing Potion's Assistant, etc.'!) I can only say this: BRAVISSIMO!
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Wow, thank you for your amazing reactions! I'm thrilled that you like what I've written and that it pleases you so very much!Thank you!
Wow. I am at a loss as to Anglican Rites, however I am quite familiar with Thomas Cranmer, courtesy of 'The Tudors' *snicker*, an excellent Show. And I never had any idea exactly when certain rites were converted from latin to The Queen's English. ( television skipped that part, as usual!) As a staunch metaphysicist, I find my late sister's draw toward the Roman Catholic Church a bit of a mystery to me. However I am adamant in my conviction to learn more on Anglican....everything. (I devour books, too.) That was an excellent author's note in the previous chapter. I look forward to seeing what will come of this. You have managed to put the humanity that would have scalded Rowling's ears into your characters while keeping them in character. That in itself is a remarkable feat!
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Both the Bible and the rites and rituals were published in English so that ordinary people could read and understand them. Prior to that point, you probably only understood the rites and rituals of the Catholic Church if you spoke Latin and/or were educated to understand them, and even then many weren't public (as I recall from my study--which has been a few years back). The Book of Common Prayer brought it all into English and put it into the hands of the people. And the glory of it all was that it was done during a time when the language was beautiful and (although the term is tad early) what we know as Shakespearean. So it has beautiful imagery and language, just as the King James Bible (which is post-Shakespeare) does. There's probably a better term for the language but Shakespearean is all I can think of!Since it wasn't until the 1960s that the Catholic Church followed suit, their liturgy (in many opinions) suffers from being too modern. Even as it has been updated, the Anglican/Episcopal works still reflect their beautiful origins. And that's my totally biased opinion, which does not reflect anything against the Roman Catholic Church as a whole, but shows a preference for Anglican liturgy!(Wow, I can't believe I'm sticking all this in a fanfic response!)Oh, and the draw toward the Roman Catholic, the Eastern Orthodox and the Anglican forms of Christianity often IS metaphysical. We still believe "something happens" and that it isn't all just "in remembrance of."
This is so good and I have to get some sleep! I wonder what the wandless magic is all about though. hmmm
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
I hope you got your sleep! Thank you for your continued reviews!
hmmmm interesting....
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Glad you think so!
well Im glad SOMEONE has enough sense to see that Voldy would most definately be fairly decent to his followers; otherwise he would have none. I mean who would stay if all you did was show up, get beaten and cursed half to death and then go home? NOBODY. Thanks, just had to put that out there.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
I'd read enough Voldy-torture stuff to want to go in a different direction, although I'm sure others have done so, as well. I'm glad you like it.
lol, indeed. niceI have to say that its very interesting Hermione is 'Pure-snob descent' and wonder if it is going to come into play later.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Well, yes, we can't let the Malfoys have all the fun!
