Seventh-year student Hermione Granger decides to marry the one eligible wizard who did not ask for her--the horrid but powerful Severus Snape. All is not sweetness and light. Be careful what you ask for. Or, as has been said by many a wise witch, "Marry in haste; repent in leisure." MLC

Care of Magical Creatures recently received two awards on "Secrets of the Dark Vaults," a Russian fanfic site. Best NC-17 and Best Maxi Translation. The Nine-Year Plan was awarded Best Mini-Fic! I'm delighted to be in translation and to please the readers in Russia!

With the completion of Care of Magical Creatures my fanfic output is going to slow way down, but if you want to be sure to know when new fics post, please follow me on twitter. I don't tweet much, but I'll surely tweet that kind of thing.
About Mia
I came to the world of Harry Potter relatively early, after first resisting it because it just seemed too trendy. But when the first book came out in paperback in the US I picked it up at the airport when I was about to catch a flight, and two chapters in knew I would be ordering the original from amazon.co.uk in hardcover as soon as I landed.
I came to fanfic late, waiting until after I'd read DH. That means I've been totally obsessed with the fanfic world of Harry Potter, and most specifically the SS/HG ship, since August of '07.
I'm helplessly and hopelessly hooked.
Reviews for Care of Magical Creatures
"I hope you’ll forgive me if I find the sentiment overrated," he responded blandly. "And the only way George or Fred Weasley would have the attention span to keep adequate watch over Miss Granger’s safety is if she periodically emitted sparks, smoke and whistling wheezes from every orifice of her body!" OHO TOO FUNNY! *This is VERY good. Ive been waiting for it to be finished forever! You have done very well keeping the characters, um, in character!
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thank you so very much! And I LOVE your name!
I saw it in a book. You're serious, aren't you? ..."But you're so good at it," she said meekly. "And you've been doing it for such a very long time—" "Miss Granger!" That is so so funny......"In the book it said that you would like it."You ARE bloody serious... ...I think you need to elaborate, Miss Granger. Thanks Sev, me too. They have to lie there and know that you're not. You're not alone. " Overcome with the realisation of it, she breathed, "We're not alone."Aaaah... i see. Now isn't that the sweetest thing...? ...It was unacceptable for word to get back to Slytherin parents that he and his wife were even friendly, much less affectionate. But that is SUCH a pity. I'd love to see their open mouths... ... But the Dark Lord still prefers the children of Slytherin families to remain here.Mhm. The DARK LORD. That's rather interesting, but I suppose you were just tired of saying 'You-Know-Who' rather than Minerva being......Severus fought fiercely for your ability to stay in classes and continue your studies all the way through your N.E.W.T.s.He's so very protective... *sigh*... Severus will not be happy about this. No, I don't think so either... ...She looked out, but he could see by the sheen in her eyes that she most likely couldn't see.Oh oh oh, but I do!!! She can watch!!! She can watch out for him!!!...The carpets and brocade were a satisfying green and she was ready to leave. He couldn't wait to see Minerva's face. You really have a profound need to make me laugh out loud - and if it's the last three lines! Well, gotten quite long this review, hasn't it...?But it helped take my mind off difficult times... Thanks for that!See you at the next chappy,Severa

I'm so sorry it took me so long to get back to this, but I love-love-loved this review! And I love-love-loved writing Hermione when she turned Severus inside out with her explorations and investigations, and her reference material. LOL!Did I really have Minerva call him the Dark Lord?!? You are the first person to ever point that out to me, out of many many many reviewers! Gasp! I guess I should change that.(Erm, was I supposed to pretend I did it on purpose? I didn't!)Thank you for this amazing review!
So sad to see it end, but what an ending it was. I absolutely loved this fic and can only hope that they have an amazing future ahead of them. Wonderful storytelling, thank you.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thank you so very much. Writing this fic meant more to me than I'll ever be able to express, and your reviews meant a lot to me.
OMG! OMG! OMG! What a dramatic chapter. As I'm rereading this entire fic, I don't think it is a spoiler to say - Severus is certainly going to question the wisdom of pushing Hermione through the floo into the Room of Requirement first - I'm not familiar with Wincester Cathedral, or it's flooded crypt. I have had the pleasure of visiting Westminister Abbey a couple of times in my life. So when you mentioned the tomb of Jane Austin, I pictured something similar. I loved the descriptions of what everyone was wearing and how Hermione choose Hagrid as a witness. Your details of the duel ceremony and the magical silver ribbons give the reader such a strong visual picture.
I felt so bad for them both with the dreadful, painful consummation. What terrible circumstances they were in. Certainly not the best way to start that part of the relationship.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
I honestly had NO idea how many ways this chapter was going to influence the story. I made the choice for a relatively superficial reason--I just wanted something different, and having been to Winchester Cathedral, the idea of a wedding in the spooky undercroft caught my attention so I ran with it. As for Jane Austen, her grave and stone are in a side aisle and you do walk on it!http://www.jasa.net.au/images/grave.jpg
This is an emotionally charged chapter. It is a definite break from the tone of the first chapters, and shows Hermione learning that there are repercussions from her actions that she did not consider. It is a bit amusing to see Hermione learn that Prof. McGonagall's strong reaction might be more out of concern for adding to Prof. Snape's burden rather than for Hermione's safety. Then we experience the first really intense exchange between the Professor and Ms. Granger. Your visceral description of Severus' rage on return to his room is palpable. We also see a flicker of triumph beneath the rage, which presents a mystery at this time. Hermione's prim, self-assured retort that if she wanted to break into the Professor's office she would have is spot-on in character.Yet it is the next piece that drives this chapter for me. When Snape strikes, pinning Hermione with her hair and giving her those aggressive kisses, she gets her first taste of his passion. You really did a fabulous job describing Hermione's confusion and our first glimpse of the heavenly 'angel white skin' which mesmerizes her. I was glad that Snape did not press her any further and urged her to leave and let them resume to 'behave as adults' the next day. To bad Minerva had other ideas!
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
I thought this was going to be funny, light sexy romp until Severus returned to his rooms and I experienced his rage. At that moment he wrenched control of the story away from me and it changed forever. In retrospect, knowing the way the story developed, I wonder if his early aggression/passionate kiss here makes sense, but at the time it did so I haven't changed it. I guess in a way it was more an act of aggression and "look what you've done to yourself" than real passion, so in that case it works, I think.
67? Holy crap.... holy crap... evil test! And what is the sentient castle doing, hmm?
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
I didn't realize when I wrote it that I'd used "67," which is also how many chapters there are in this completed fic. :)
wow...just wow! that's our hermione! superlative update. thanks so much
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thank you so much. Yes, she really came through here, didn't she? Poor dear!
Eeeeek! I don't know whether to laugh or cringe at poor Hermione's exam flailings - as if she'd fail, indeed. The poor girl. The poor, silly, competitive, girl. :-DAnd just what is that castle up to?! Severus better have some decent child-delivering skills!
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Oh, poor Hermione! (And I'm really glad Molly taught her the right charms, because can you imagine how distraught she'd be if she'd had to stop early?)As for Sev--he's handled all sorts of things he never dreamed he'd have to handle since he married her. What's one more?
That's gotta suck. Poor Hermione worked herself into a state because she didn't know about the test. Then to go into labor, and Severus can't get out. I'm looking forward to the next chapter.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Yes, that castle has been involved in their marriage from the very beginning, but surely this is taking it to far!
Hermione working to finish her exams - all the questions - on an extendable test, because she'd thought she'd fail if seh didn't? I really hope that Harry's outbrust, side-trip and confession helps them both heal. Its time to heal. And WTF the castle locked them in? So she can die from complications and get no professonal help?
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Oh, that ever-extending test was cruel, wasn't it? (But somebody should really have prepared her better for that exam!)I am hoping that Harry can unexpectedly be the beginning of Severus's final healing, too.And oh yes, that castle. Ooops!
Whan I saw this would be set in June I immediatly thought that she was close to heve her baby. I'm so excited about it. I can't wait to see Severus delivering his own son. Surely that will help him realise the miracle of life that's going to happen. *grin*
Response from snitchette (Reviewer)
And if I'm correct, there is only one more chapter. I really thought this would end on CHristmas, but the birth of a child is fine with me.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Getting to this in reverse order... I didn't tell you that you were wrong about Christmas, so I'm glad you weren't disappointed!
They have to deliver the baby themselves!? I look forward to reading that.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
And by now, you have. ~hugs~
I must say its all go! And bless Draco. I loved how they showed affection for each other in front of everyone.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Yes, Draco started out this fic as a total jerk but I think he's coming around, to the best of his Draco-ability. Thank you!
LOL I swear Hermione is obsessive-compulsive! Great chapter!
Missy
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Obsessive-compulsive and hormonal. Thank you!
Poor Hermione, I think she is having difficulties with all the hormone related emotions in pregnancy. I am also wondering if she will be able to get medical help.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Oh, yes, she's definitely hormonal and pushing herself too hard, as well. Thank you!
Oh, excellent! I'm trusting Hermione's plan will indeed work - and the Wizengamot will see the truth of what the law really means for people's lives, even if I suppose it'll take some convincing. (And turning to the Americans seems to make a lot of sense - they're certainly completely neutral, while I'd imagine perhaps a bit more modern and less keen on arranged marriages and such traditions that people in some other areas would see as perfectly fine.)It's really good to see those glimpses of normality in Severus's and Hermione's lives, too, and to see just how much Severus worries and cares for her.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thank you. I'm glad you liked the glimpses of normality seeping in. They've never had it, and if anybody deserves it, it's these two after everything I put them through.
Wonderful, wonderful fic! I laughed and cried and smiled the whole time! Truly an excellent job!
Missy
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thank you! I hope you like the remaining chapters as well!
I really love the banners. It's so cute reading about Severus trying to help Hermione trough her pregnancy, and his little worry abou ther sleeoing patters, what she'd given up for having his child. LOL So like some dads I know.It was interesting that Hermione turned to American guys to confirm her results, but so understandable. I hope that the Marriage Law is beaten for good now. Totally love this story! It's a Hall of Fame one if ever!
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Yes, he's obsessing, isn't he? But she's his everything. :-)I'm glad you appreciate her turning to the Americans. I considered the Chinese, since they'd been so sympathetic and helpful re: their soul-bonding. But I wasn't sure the Chinese would care so much about the Marriage Law, and decided maybe the best place to turn was those rowdy, upstart Americans who would bristle at the thought of it and be inclined to help in any way they could!Thank you so much for your kind words!
Maybe if she used the words 'our son' she might have persuaded him to accept it? While Severus blames himself for nearly everything (silly man), I do wish Hermione would realise she is having a son too as well as Severus. Lovely update.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
They are both rather fragile right now, and both having their own issues to deal with. I'm thinking she'll get there, though, just give her a wee bit more time....Thank you so much!
i must say that i really love this story. can't wait to read more!
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thank you so very, very much. This story is so close to my heart and it warms me to know it touches you.
I love the scene where he' s trying to bring her to Poppy. It's absolutely fantastic. I'm also glad that she's going to make that stupid Law being revoked. I'm just surprised about the Vector thing. She was very hard on Hermione during the firsk weeks after her Marriage and now she's helping her? I suppose the end of the war calmed her down.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
It has been awhile since the chapter was posted, but in "Godric's Hollow" Vector showed her loyalty to Hermione and so I think they worked things out between them. Plus she must feel very proud of her protege. And poor Severus, he is such a worrier! LOL!
Your writing style is so much more about emotions than events. I get lost in the moment that is your story. I live it right along with the characters, not as if I am watching them, but I AM them, I feel their feelings. It is amazing how you do this with such a sparce economey of words.I did find a typo about half-way through the chapter. She had just talked him out of carrying her to Poppy. He lowered her gently back to the bed, and she felt the relief mixed with regret as the felt him pulling away. She clutched his arm and held him close.I'm guessing that the underlined word should be "she."Hope you don't mind me pointing this out. I dare say that even though several pair of eyes look at my stories before they get posted, errors still sneek through the scrutiny.I look forward to your next installment as always.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thank you so much. I fixed that typo and appreciate you telling me about it. But even more especially, I thank you so much for telling me about the emotional impact of my writing. I want you to feel what they feel, so to know you do is the highest praise.
Very well written. I can't wait to see what happens next.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thank you. I hope the next chapter posts soon so you can see!
that's our hermione! but when will poor severus stop blaming himself for everything. wonderful update. thanks so much
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Oh, poor Severus. He's going to take a bit of work.Thank you so much!
Silly Severus. Although I suppose I can't blame him too much for being so insecure about the baby. But still! Men. Severuses, in particular.George's idea of that being Fred is scary, though. ;-)Lovely chapter. Somehow it seems that this, more than anything before, really hints at there being a true possibility of a real, happy, contented future for those two (or three, rather). A new real chance at life and all that.~Kribu
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
I really appreciate knowing that. Even though I knew I had to take them farther before I could let them go, I hoped I wasn't like the party guest who doesn't know when to leave, only being the writer who didn't know when to write "the end."But there were things I felt I needed to write before I could let them go.
