Once again, my heart is pounding wildly in my chest.Great Chatper!!!And I would never have known you were not a native English speaker if you hadn't told me.

! I don't know if i've inadvertently given you the wrong impression but I'm actually a Brit (although my English teacher spent ALL her time telling me that I didn't write like one when I was at school!!). More action up soon I hope - but next week there is a little naughty one-shot making an appearance in place of an AM chapter (if the queue behaves itself, that is!), and I'd love to hear what you think of it!! Best wishes, Px

Severus in a towering rage is surely something to behold! :)
Response from Proulxes (Author of Anima Mea)
Ohhhh, yes! But you'll have to wait until chapter 24 for him to fully let himself go. Sneak peak (warning - spoilers!): "Slowly, he allowed a wolfish smile to spread over his face. He shoved the broken metal caduceus spike into his belt and flexed his fingers, feeling the magic coursing through his veins. Then he stepped out from behind the plinth to face Sabazios, conscious also of the advancing Inferii. "Sabazios!" he taunted, allowing as much derision as possible to infuse his voice. "If you want me... come and get me!" .... mwahahahahaaa!

Oh my. If Marcella is *there,* where are the boys? What a way to start the day! LOL Interesting update -- looking forward to seeing the rescue attempt and seeing if Severus runs into Sabazios et al on his way to rescue Hermione. (Good job by her on trying to direct the Legilimency.)

! Lovely to hear from you again!! Glad you liked it - this section of the story was fun to write, setting up a far worse situation for Hermione and Severus in later chapters. The shared experience that H and S have undergone is important for the final answers in this story - and I'm really pleased that you thought the mental sparring that Hermione engages in with Sabazios went well. Thanks - as always - for taking the time to review! Best wishes, :Px

Love. Love. LoveLa la la.Thanks for another brilliant chapter! Love the deepening romance. (swoons.) Love the evil Sabazios. Love the mystery of the impending volcano and the big baddy and all the future storylines and what's UP WITH THE PORTRAITS?!Can't wait for more!
Response from Proulxes (Author of Anima Mea)
*Blushes furiously* Oh... Crikey... Thanks! I'm so delighted you liked it! I'm hoping that the next chapter will be approved soon, in which case you will get an intensification of action. The romance will get its full measure in time, though -- I promise. But there is a way to go yet before the end.... Best wishes, Px

Oh, what an absolute mess! Hermione's gone and got herself captured, Marcella's there with her in the cell - probably with the children; Conviva doesn't know about them, and now has lots of questions about how Severus healed so quickly; Sabazios has more power than Hermione EVER realized; and Hermione's now given him a potion to make him ten times more powerful than he was! The only hope is for Severus to get Hermione out of the cell and the two of them out of Pompeii before things get too hot (and before she gets abruptly pulled back to the future!)
Response from Proulxes (Author of Anima Mea)
An excellent summation! Yup, situation horrible... and the mountain has even begun to get started yet. More coming soon -- so glad you liked the chapter!! Thank you for taking the time to review! Px

I need a time turner for those days when I start a fic too late to finish before going to work. I kept trying to sneak peeks during my breaks... all day long... and still couldn't finish until just now. Thanks for posting! I've been looking for this update!hm88

Ohhh - that's great news! (I was worrying that the gaps between posting would put people off reading the story.) I'm glad you enjoyed this chapter, hm88! The next chapter gives Hermione the opportunity to stretch her action-heroine muscles - while Severus tries to find her.... :Px

Its getting more confusing rather than clearer. Great read anyhow. What a mess the two find themselves in! Poor Conviva is totally confused and has no clue as to where his wife truly is. I'm glad I missed the previous chapter and thus the cliffie, although this one isn't ending nicely either! Were there many really poor people in Pompeii? I thought most houses were summer residences of the rich Romans.
Response from Proulxes (Author of Anima Mea)
Oooh... I know... but please stick with it! It is still a bit confusing -- if you really want to know what is going on, then please email me and I'll tell you. Spoilers! I'm very glad you're still following the story, despite the gaps between posting. The next one is in the queue and hopefully will be up soon. That one is all bonkers action. The chapter after next starts to explain a bit more about what is really going on.... Px

Wow. He is quite creepy and clearly considers himself not human. I can't wait to see where this goes.
Response from Proulxes (Author of Anima Mea)
Very, very creepy! (Glad you liked him!) It's going to go into action and more action for a while, before Sabazios goes on a rampage, Severus gets captured and Hermione has to try to rescue him. Awww. As for Horcruxes... watch this space! Px

•That’s some sort of Concealment Charm. Whatever Sabazios really looks like, I don’t think it... he... really looks like this…. •...she heard a hiss of breath being taken and a sibilant whisper. •There was another sibilant whisper, the quiet pop of the cork being released, a pause, and then a low chuckle of laughter.•"Oh, Doctor Hermione Granger, if only that were the case," Sabazios said, and laughed once more.Boy, Howdy! Do I have a few observations and/or questions. I don't really expect you to answer some most of them, but here I go anyway:(1) Stars and Garters! How did he get here? He must have had a Horcrux nobody knew about.(2) Do the cages in the cistern hold bulls ready for the initiates to sacrifice?(3) Is the Metamorphagus Potion what enables Sabazios to appear to others as a beautiful golden figure with glorious curling locks of hair?(4) And if that's what the Potion does, what is it about the Manticore's blood that makes it a crucial ingredient?(5) Sabazios' close attendants remind me of the "Inner Circle," and the goings on in the cistern remind me of a Dark Revel.(6) "She shot a shocked, naked look at him and realised that all was lost." Hermione isn't ready for primetime yet, is she? Sabazios will surely plunder her mind to within an inch of her life.I hope Professor Spleen's cure for Hermione doesn't send her into a deeper coma. And I wonder what Conviva is thinking about the cool flames he found in the lab. What will happen to Severus when Sabazios enters Hermione's mind? Will that break the spell she cast on him to keep him from waking up? And where the hell is Marcus Fiducius? Gods, I love this story!Beth

Hi Beth, this has got to be one of the longest reviews I have received so far! You know I can't answer your questions, but you have absolutely nailed the key problems still not answered. I am so impressed by your analytical powers!! The next six chapters are already written, waiting to be corrected by my beta reader, and the story should be complete in 27 chapters, so we are more than halfway through the story. Thank you for your encouragement! *Bows low* :Px

Eh?? How does he know who she is??? And what kind of trouble is Conviva going to get into??
Response from Proulxes (Author of Anima Mea)
Aaaah. Remember how Severus told H that Sabazios had got into his memories, had flayed him open? I'm not sure that Hermione has! She had a plan (a pretty rubbish - if brave - one, admittedly), but it looks like it's all coming apart at the seams. Cue more tension, then insane action. :Px

Oooooops. I guess basic theatrics is not going to get her out of this. But how can it be that something this powerful is unaware of the coming destruction? And on a side note, if Severus still has his Horcrux, then he can still survive the coming eruption?
Response from Proulxes (Author of Anima Mea)
Good question! There is more (or less) to Sabazios than meets the eye,
Response from Proulxes (Author of Anima Mea)
. I'm hoping that he reminds you of someone...! Basic theatrics are not going to help... but she has always been a quick learner. This minisection of the story I am calling "Hermione gets her She-Ra: Princess of Power on". Oh, well, errrm... perhaps not!! Going for a quick lie down now. Px

Basic theatrics... nope, I think you're right. But she's been there before (confronting a Legilimens) and remember that she's got her wand.... You raise an interesting point about the Horcrux issue. Only one thing I'll say. There is 'survival', and 'surviving'.... Next chapter is on it's way soon. Thank you so much for taking the time to write to me ;) :Px

Ruh-roh, Raggy. This is bad: Severus is incapacitated, Sabazios is presumably Voldemort in disguise, Hermione has no easy way out, and Vesuvius is warming up for her big number. Please tell me that Conviva will stumble upon a way to release Severus so he can go to the rescue before all is lost. After all, what are friends for? Thanks for posting--you paced the tension in this chapter beautifully.
Response from Proulxes (Author of Anima Mea)
Thanks, Scoobs! Yup - that just about sums up the scenario (although I will neither confirm nor deny the rumours concerning the Dark Lord in this review ;) !!) Severus is fighting H's curse, but the only way to break a Stunner is for the spellcastor to release the victim, or for the castor to die, right..?!! Aaaargh! Sorry - having way too much fun with this answer - but actually it's your fault for evoking the soul of Mystery Inc.! Best wishes, :Px

Poor Conviva! I can only imagine what's going through his mind... and the images of the rite were quite vivd. Well done! Now, I wonder why she didn't realize that a god would see through her guise... Interesting that he knew even more than one would anticipate, as most Roman gods weren't omniscient... Curious... ;) Well done!

Hello,
Response from Proulxes (Author of Anima Mea)
! It's lovely to hear from you! Glad you've found AM and you've been moved to review :). Yup, he's in trouble, but he might not quite see it that way. He woke up and found her blundering about in his unconscious mind, against his express wishes, and before he could adress that issue, H knocked him flying with a curse. Now he's Stupified, and she's gone off to do something spectacularly dangerous. Can't see him being all that happy when he finds a way to break through... if he can break her curse, that is! Thank you for the review. Next chapter is in the queue for posting.... Best wishes, :Px

Your story is so intriguing! You add more threads into the fabric, each as captiating as the previous one. I obviously lost Vector when Harry did, but I assume he's now about to hunt "something somewhere"? What a quest! One tiny detail irritated me: does a Roman citizen know what figure eight is? They didn't use the Arabian numbers.

Hi
Response from Proulxes (Author of Anima Mea)
- great to hear from you again! Glad you are still enjoying the story. Good call on the figure of eight reference. :) I could offer weasel words like, 'oh, she shows him what she means as well as saying it, so he wouldn't have been confused', or 'he hears her say "figure of eight" but he wraps the palla around his friend's shoulders like a twisted omega - a reference that would have been understood in the Roman world'... But actually, you got me! I didn't make it clear enough.... Kudos for picking up on something I missed. *Bows low* Thank you for your review! Best wishes, :Px
