OMGOMGOMGOMGOMG THIS WAS AWESOME!!! I cannot believe how WONDERFUL this was. I loved Severus's realization of who the various people in Pompeii actually referenced in his real life... and how he put everything together. And I ADORED how Hermione refused to allow him to push her away. I'm KVELLING!

Whew. I was a little nervous there for a few paragraphs.I enjoy reading a good story, but it's a bonus to also gain a window into another world. You have done a lovely job, blending the present day with the near and distant past, tying it all together with a beautiful big bow. One of my favorites, to be sure.Thank you (and your team) for sharing with us.hm88

I'm so glad she convinced him that their feelings for each other were real! Silly man! Trying to tell her what is in her mind and heart.Great chapter. Heart warming. Someone needs to put a body-bond on Ron, though.

Thanks again for taking the time to review this story, Claypotter. The chapter was a real challenge to write - for him to retain his bite and bitterness without losing his vulnerability and emotional insecurity. The original drafts weren't cutting it - so I'm pleased that you liked the final version! Pxx

I just want to throw a Bellatrix hex at Ron for attacking/kneeing poor Severus like that! So relieved that Severus was put in an isolated room, and then treated with the kindness and care and love that he deserves! Lovely, cheeky Aurors humour and bravo to Harry for stepping up and protecting Sev, as well he should; lovely Pomfrey scene, can truly feel the step by step process and interchange between the two with Severus' healing process. Severus was so exasperatingly sweet with him being so determined to keep up appearances and be properly dressed as if nothing had happened, everything was 'normal'-wonderful! Love Hermione's all-seeing, all knowing approach with dealing with Severus, and adore the final image of the two of them snuggled up, exhausted, but at peace, finally, at long last--lovely, brilliant work, P! As always and always and always¨xx

Thank you, nag! I am so pleased that you liked the final version of this chapter. I was trying to keep the emotions as realistic as I could and I wanted to focus on Severus' point of view now we are back in the 'real' world, while in 'Pompeii' the majority of the action was described by Hermione. More to come soon. Pxx

Well, hopefully that's the end of that bit of nonsense. Now, all they have to do is manage the rest of the world. At least Hermione has a firm existence outside the wizarding world. They both can make their way there if need be.Justin was quite the idiot there and I don't think her will have given up. Especially since Harry was his immediate roadblock.Looking forward to the last bit. It's been a great tale.

•“The Horcrux is inside you, Hermione,” Dumbledore added kindly.•He shook with the effort of remaining in contact with her body and poured his love and fear and grief and sorrow into her.•“Quite so. Or, of course, he could save you both.”•A sharp and demanding wave of nausea struck her as the pain gripped her chest once more. Oh gods, it hurt! "Fuck you, Dumbledore! What is happening?" she hissed.
"I think you know what is happening, Hermione," Dumbledore answered kindly. "Severus is doing what he needs to do. He's coming."=====
*head desk* How in blue blazes did I miss this crucial detail? The Horcrux is not in the Daum perfume bottle! It is in Hermione!!! I had to go back and read the first several chapters again before I found the marvelous clues that were right there from the beginning!
Right there at the start of Chapter 1 when Hermione was brushing off the mosaic portrait of Severus: Wait! Was…? That face emerging seems familiar? She bent again, heart thudding in her chest, holding her breath, the brush poised in her hand. There seemed to be a strange smell in the air. A metallic tang, like blood…
Then as Hermione was reading Ginny's letter she realized that what her friend had written about the portrait in the Headmaster's office was exactly what she was seeing before her in Pompeii. When she touched the glass tiles, they seemed to move under her fingers. She felt a familiar and disturbing tug in the pit of her navel again, and with a quick intake of breath, she found herself pitching forwards, twisting as she dipped and fell.
And that's when she landed on Severus- in Pompeii in 79 AD.
Then my dumbass self dashed back to Chapter 5 and realized that this scene in Severus' house described how he had called her to him in Pompeii:As he had stood leaning against her image with his forehead and hands placed against the cool of the plaster fresco, murmuring words of need, want and desire, he had felt the magic build in his body to a point where it had felt like his fingertips were conductors and his body was about to shatter. His eyes had closed in a kind of rapture as the power built and built, the tension thrumming in him like a sweet pain looking for release.
Abruptly, something had hit him hard in the chest and face, pushing him roughly backwards until he fell onto the stone paving.
As if a sack of fluid had burst, disgorging its contents over him, there suddenly had been a body in his arms, all flailing arms and legs and hair and awkward angles and corners. She had fallen across him, and her face had smacked hard into the concrete floor beside his ear. He could not breathe from the shock of it as well as the sudden weight of her body on his.
If any other readers are reading this review, I know they must be chortling behind their hands, "What a thick woman she must be." LOL! I really was gob smacked when I put these events together. How he had called her to him was the biggie that I had not understood until I read this update. And now he has gone back to Pompeii to save her.
What a fantastic plotter you are! There are a gazillion twists and turns in this story, and I'd be willing to bet good money that there are still more that I haven't put together. Jeezus, I love your writing!!!!! A Gazillion Points to Your House.
It's about time for Hermione's parents and the Aurors to join the group in the Infirmary. Will all hell break loose? I can't wait to find out. Are we really going to get an extra chapter or two. AWESOME!
Besides Severus saving Hermione, here are a few more points that I REALLY liked:•"Is he... gooey or something?" LOL! This is one of the best one-liners of all time. I'll bet it was all Harry could do not to have a heart attack when Snape grabbed hold of him.
•I loved that Hermione shut Dumbledore down a time or two just because she was furious with him. Not that it worked for very long, but at least she got her point across.
•Poppy is a resourceful mediwitch, and still Severus gave her (and Harry and Ron) a run for her money. I liked the Absorbere Incutis for transdermal administration of the potion. Very clever!
•Severus using the "I gotta pee" strategy to get everyone to go away so he could be alone with Hermione. It's a simple and very common act that no one would question, and that makes it the perfect excuse to run 'em off and still have privacy.

Hi Beth. This one definitely wins the prize for the longest review I have ever received! I am amazed at the effort you are putting into reading my story (thanks so much). I said at the start that this one was fully planned out and it is - but getting the final answers in place without resorting too much to the character-that-knows-it-all-expounding-his-wisdom was very hard to do (and I didn't quite get there - Dumbledore insisted on having at least one moment of smugness). I hope you like the next one - its more about the emotional cost of his survival (although I'm determind not to be too angsty about it!). Pxx

Sorry I wrote so much, and most of it is quoted from the chapter. LOL! I got carried away. And I tend to include my thoughts and such because I know I'll read it again, and I want to remember what I was thinking the first time around. (This is the curse of someone who follows processes and ties all the threads together.)

Those purple boots had to be Albus... or Gilderoy, but the latter wouldn't have been much use unless joined-up writing was required. Love the way hermione gave Albus a piece of her mind! :)

I don't know which I like more... "Is he...gooey..." or the purple boots. At first I thought the purple boots might be wealthy Pompeiian gladiator-esque boots until I read "diamante". Wonderful! This is a well crafted story and I have enjoyed following it. I love the fusion with the Pompeiian world and the flash forwards to present time. I realize I have not reviewed in nearly a year... I have been so remiss. I look forward to the conclusion and also to your future writing!

This has been SO satisfying. Not just that Hermione gets to tell Dumbledore off, but also that the encounter is terrifically nuanced -- it's just how an older/wiser/more bitter Hermione would handle herself. The resolution of the Horcrux mystery makes logistcal and emotional sense. And bless Ron for asking the question I too would have asked when Snape's tomb opened.

Well, it looks as if I might need to return to my original guess -- now that Fiducius has cut off Restitutus's ear, the similarities between the Vettii Brothers and the Weasley Twins is even greater than before!

Oh, you diabolically clever woman! I suggested in an earlier review that one (or both) of the Vettii Brothers might be an ancestor of the Weasleys and/or Prewetts since they have red hair and playful personalities as well as being successful despite their humble beginnings....but I no longer think that. Conviva has red hair, and his wife has green eyes...they're Lily Evans's ancestors, aren't they?

"A slow blade might penetrate the shield." Was that a deliberate "Dune" reference? This isn't the first time I've had the impression that you've very subtly injected elements from that universe into this one. (For that matter, now that I think about it, Sabazios's half-serpentine form is faintly reminiscent of Emperor Leto's part-sandworm body.)
Response from Proulxes (Author of Anima Mea)
You are absolutely right,
Response from Proulxes (Author of Anima Mea)
! It was my way of tipping my hat to Dune. "It is by will alone I set my mind in motion"... What a brilliant universe Herbert created! But there is a clearer tie to the HP world in this story. Thank you for reading and reviewing! Pxx

... when the castor feels true remorse, although the pain of such action may destroy him.” Just love the tension and welling up of emotions and pysche within Severus, as well as Hermione with the exasperating Dumbles, and pushing them both beyond their (or anyone else's for that matter) limits/experiences--both go beyond, into the realm of self-sacrifice (the willingness of) surpassing remorse, and the raw love for each other through the dimensions that each is existing in is so poignantly felt--lovely, lovely work!Of course, Ron's reactions are so priceless, and Harry's--at the beginning I felt caught up in a Stoker-ish nightmare--such wonderful detail and description--macabre yet with wee bit of cheek via Ron to break the otherwise stark reality of opening Snape's tomb and finding an un-deadish Severus barely tethered to either world--loved the dynamics of the interjected and switching back and forth from Hermione dealing with her own King's Cross to Severus' slowly becoming conscious and determined to risk all, again--Great chapter!!! Thank you, Px!!!

Hi nag! I am so glad you liked the chapter. I could not resist allowing Hermione to give Dumbledore a piece of her mind. I don't like him much either.... More soon! Pxx

Awesome chapter!! I'm glad she told the old coot to shut up! He really did ruin and almost ruin so many lives, and needlessly so. Greater Good indeed. The world is a better place with Severus Snape in it! Thanks for giving him back to us, and for letting him and Hermione be together again. I imagine he will have a lot of physical thearapy to go through before he is back to normal, though.

! Thank you for getting in touch! Glad you liked the chapter - I agree - Severus should get the chance to have another life. You can guess what happens next: a. Severus reacts in a mature and sensible fashion, talking through the issues between them. b. Severus freaks out and refuses to see her, assuming that she will never want to see him again. ... Pxx

Gee... since Severus never seems to go the easy route, I'm going to go with B. lol. besides, that means the story can last a bit longer, and I'm all for that. ;)

I'm still laughing at Ron. Even after all of these years and everything he knows - it still has to be the Greasy Git's fault. Even if it somewhat actually is... And there's Harry, faling back on his faith in the universe.Hermione was glorious. Thank you for allowing her that moment of incandecent fury. She most certainly didn't want to hear a word from Dumbledore, even if he eventually did say something of note.I've really enjoyed this tale and I'm a bit sad that we're down to the end of it. Thank you.

I know, bless him - I was trying to show, as the story progressed, how Ron was moving from the 'playboy quidditch star' cool and over his breakup, to someone who regrets the breakdown of his and H's relationship. Pleased you liked Hermione in this chapter. There had to be a reason why she stayed away too long, even though you'd think she'd be attracted to where Severus' 'body' was... ;) I promised two more chapters a chapter ago - think there might be another one... Oooops! Pxxaeron's response: I, for one am glad that she didn't go exactly when and where Severus ended up. Both Ron and Harry would have had quite the surprise when they opened up that tomb, LOL!I can easily read another chapter or two.

I managed to get this latest chapter on my Kindle so I could take it with me while away for Christmas. What a wonderful written gift to have over the holidays! I knew Severus had to be alive, yay! This was, yet again, an exciting and emotional ride of a chapter. I love your slow crescendo towards the end with a number of these minor climactic parts and the way you weave your knowledge, e.g. of history and vulcanology, into the tale: it continues to inspire :) As for what I think ... I'm not entirely sure. The one thing that stuck in my mind was Sabazios' choking of Severus: there was a moment, from Severus' perspective and voice, when Sabazios/etc. faded away and I got the impression that Severus was waking up (rather than dieing) ... waking up in his coffin in the present. Assuming their "souls/spirits/minds" are trapped in the past (in some form or another), then it seemed to me that any death in that past isn't, in fact, permanent, but allows them to wake from their stasis in the present (and that stasis must have involved the initial timeturner and horcrux event); when Hermione hits her head on the mosiac, I feel like that sent her into a near-death state, like Snape re. Nagini, and the horcrux activated similarly. However, the details involved with the mosiac cannot be ignored (love what other reviewers have said), and I'm not sure how to factor that into my random theory 8) Everything else aside, I absolutely cannot wait to read the next part!
