Reviews for Anima Mea
“Well, that’s done, then,” she said with a false casualness, the relief clearly evident on her features. “Now all I have to do is decant it in a few minutes and take it to Sabazios.”Well, if that is all, then I have been worried for nothing, lol. The manticore scene was intense. I actutally thought that Hermione was going to channel her inner Hagrid and find a way to reason with the beast. No such luck.Still nervous about the goings on at St. Mungo's ...

I deliberately didn't want to go the route of "oh, the poor beasty" -- in my head Hagrid is special because only he can seemingly do that. And I wanted a big surprise. Don't forget him though... Spoilers! Pxx

Oh dear! You can decide what part of the chapter I'm referring to. And no matter what, you'll be right.

Loved the kiss! It was so unexpected and so wonderful. Taking Hermione to visit historical people and places will be fabulous foreplay, lol. I hope Severus tucks away that little tidbit for later. Actually, at this point, I'm just hoping there is a later.

This was a nice, calm chapter following all of the bombshells dropped in recent chapters. Well, Harry might not agree with calm, but for Severus and Hermione, anyway. Until the end of the chapter. Gulp.

I love Hermione's optimism and enthusiasm, despite the hopeless situation. I have faith in her, and Snape as well. But that doesn't keep me from being nervous. Thiis story is too long for everything to go right from here on out, but also for them to perish in the eruption. I have no guess where this will go.

Oh, this whole situation feels so creepy and hopeless. I still don't know that I follow Snape's rationale. Hopefully Hermione has something of use for him. *is nervous*
Response from Proulxes (Author of Anima Mea)
She has never found a situation she can't get out of. He has been trapped in hopelessness and self sacrifice before. Can she save him and everyone? Tall order! Pxx

But ... but ... but ... Gah, the mystery of it all, along with the ticking time bomb is killing me. Lucky tomorrow is a holiday or the late night in front of me would have me very cranky at work.
Response from Proulxes (Author of Anima Mea)
This is one of my favourite chapters (hope that does not sound unbearably smug). Enter the villain (well, one of them!). This is why Snape cannot get away and doesn't feel he should. Does Fiducius remind you of someone? Pxx

All I can do is scream, "Yes, you can trust her!" It doesn't seem to be helping, lol. I am so clueless to exactly what his situation entails. I am glad that he did summon her to him. Otherwise, it would have been an astromonical coincidence. I hope he has a good plan. One that includes getting her back in his good graces.
Response from Proulxes (Author of Anima Mea)
Yes. Trouble. Things are definitely not what they seem. And he really needs her help. Pxx

Snape comforts Hermione when she is feeling hysterical and overwhelmed, but he won't let her help him when he is hurt. I wonder if he didn't want her pity, so to speak, or if he is just alarmed that she is in the room where he is naked and vulnerable, or is there something about his wounds that he doesn't wish for her to know about. So. Many. Questions!
Response from Proulxes (Author of Anima Mea)
Lots and lots of reasons. As you read on, I hope you'll see that he really isn't living in as perfect a world as he has tried to make out. Pxx

How amazing must it be for someone who works in history to be able to go back and see it firsthand? Too bad she can't enjoy it under better circumstances. I loved her walk through the city with her invisible protector. You could just feel her frustration with the inability to leave the city. What the heck is going on?

Hermione’s face twisted into a smirk, thinking that perhaps he was simply being a snarky bastard and pretending not to move to piss off the Ministry and, particularly, Harry? This cracked me up. It's so true to form.I really liked the end when she is reading the letter about the portrait, and she is realizing that something is up with the mosaic at her feet. It felt very intense. And the last part ... you are just lucky that this is finished, or I'd send you a glare that would make Snape proud.

On Ashwinder, you said the story was complete with 31 chapters--although it didn't feel that way--but here I found 32 chapters and you say the story is complete. Which archive has the real completed story? I wanted to add it to my favorites list. ^_^
Response from Proulxes (Author of Anima Mea)
At this moment, the story is complete here, rather than on Ash,
Response from Proulxes (Author of Anima Mea)
! I marked it as complete on Ashwinder when I posted the final chapter (and its epilogue) more than a week ago... but I checked today and it still has not been approved by the admin over there, and is therefore not visible to readers yet. Hopefully, all of the chapters will be visible on Ashwinder at the beginning of next week, but I've got no control over exactly when stories appear on that site, I'm afraid! As soon as it's up on Ashwinder, I'll email you through the system to let you know it's up. Yours in some frustration, Pxx

Dearest Proulxes, I can't find enough good things to say about this story... but I'll give it my best shot:
•The amount of research that you put into this story had to be immense. And I learned so much about life in Pompeii, and of the religious cults, and Ancient Egyptian religious beliefs that I didn't know.
•Thank you for the link to the interactive archaeology site. I have been a subscriber to the magazine for years!
•Thank you for the list of books. I will be checking some of them out.
The way your organized your telling of the things that happened–and the pacing– is among the best I've ever had the pleasure to read. Time after time you had me going back to check something in earlier chapters, and this time was no different. This time I went back to Chapter 26, and read through to the end. I made a copy of Hermione's and Dumbledore's talk in the bath in Pompeii and then edited out almost everything that wasn't dialogue. and reread it so I could have a clearer understanding of the "truths" Dumbledore revealed to her.
During Poppy's last visit to Severus' isolation room, I loved how she didn't let on that she'd seen Hermione behind him in the bed.
I was amazed with the twist when Severus realized that he had never been in Italia. His realization that the Vettii brothers were based on the Weasley twins. Marcella had been Lily. Marcus had been Lucius. And Sabazios had been Nagini. But Hermione had always been Hermione! Whether he had been drawn into her reality as she worked in Pompeii, or he had drawn her into his as he lay in his tomb, this was great story telling.
I was thrilled when they went to the new dig in Salerno and saw the gravestone of the tomb that Conviva had made for himself, Marcella and his brother, Restitutus.
When Severus saw something dangling from Restitutus' hand I nearly fell off my chair. The Vetti's were Severus' ancestors!!! Brilliant! This is totally brilliant writing!
Thank you for giving Hermione and Severus such a wonderful life together. I am a sucker for HEAs, and you delivered that in spades.
I find it hard to believe that this was your first story. You have created one of my most favorite stories!!! Thank you from the bottom of my heart for honoring us SSHG shippers with such a gift. I am looking forward to everything you will write in the future.
Lots of hugs to you, and five stars are not nearly enough. A Thousand Points to Your House!

Thank you for all of your reviews throughout this story - and, by writing them, for your support for a new writer who found herself writing 183,000 words, when she had only intended to write 30,000 maximum!!! Lovely. I wasn't expecting Severus to believe his Horcrux had created the whole experience, but it was perhaps the best way to create a resolution between Hermione and Severus. Looking forward to the next chapter!

. I wanted to play with the idea of perception and reality. The much quoteed line from DH when Dumbledore told Harry that 'just because it was happening in his head, didn't mean it wasn't real' (or something like that!) was the fundamental basis of the story. If they both felt the emotions and shared the experience, isn't that the same as 'really' having had it? I'm coming over all 'French philosopher' now.... Pxx

I've been giddy as a school girl waiting for this chapter, and it didn't disappoint! What a thrill ride this whole story has been. Adventure/romance stories happen to be my favorite fics to read and this fits the bill perfectly. I usually wait for the story to finish before commenting, but … I … just … can't wait! Lol. I know the ending will not disappoint me no matter how it ends.
This has been one of the best fics I've read since starting to read fanfic back in the days of The X Files fandom. Your story construction has been pretty much perfect as far as I'm concerned. The pacing has been taunt, void of padding that drags the story down, and the characters actions and reactions have been totally believable. You made me root for the good guys and boo the bad guys. You also made me bite my nails wondering what new twist you were going to pull out of your hat to get our dynamic duo out of trouble. I simply cannot find anything to complain about with your writing! And thus … you win the internetz! And also, because I'm keeping this puppy in my personal archive of great fanfic, you can have a copy of the book cover I made just for this story. Just let me know if you want it.
Again, kudos and brava for a great read.

Your scenario seems very logical now that I read it, but for the life of me I couldn't imagine it before. What did Ron do to Severus? I know his body is delicate but I couldn't tell what was constricting his breathing. A heart attack, maybe? You're a clever writer and I'm enjoying this story very much even if I don't pick up on all the clues.

Response from Proulxes (Author of Anima Mea)
! The way I picture it - Ron grabbed Severus and pulled and twisted him off Hermione, wrenching him backwards onto his bed, and Ron landed on top of him with his knee in Severus' ribs. Or something like that!! As far as his breathing constriction goes... I pictured it like extreme levels of exhaustion. I ran a charity mile once (non-stop and with, lets face it, NO training) and actually thought I was going to die at the end of it. Deeply pathetic, I know. I couldn't breathe, felt like I was going to be sick, spots and stars before eyes - yadda, yadda. So I thought I'd inflict that sort of feeling on Severus - like he's just run the most exhausting race of his life. The Horcrux prevented him from dying, giving his body time to be healed of he venom by the other potions she tiped down his throat in the Shack... but the Horcrux coma didn't keep him in great health - just barely alive. Once he removed the Horcrux, the fragile nature of his body was revealed and he went into shock. I'm glad you liked the chapter! Thank you for taing the time to ask me qustions...! Pxx

Very nice indeed. You could almost leave it there, although I'm a bit worried about Harry. And Severus has not yet quite realized why Poppy keeps calling him "young man." So I'll look forward to your conclusion, which I hope is coming soon. This has been a wild ride, what with Vesuvius and everything, but I've really enjoyed every turn. And I like the argument that Hermione made, against Severus's contention that her feelings are all Dark magic, that her feelings are based more firmly, on her memory and experience of him.
