Reviews for Anima Mea
I had wondered what had happened to good ol' desperate Fiducius -- gah!... What a leechy, lech, clinging, ominous slippery threat--but then in the midst, Severus winks--a throb of life and hope--but then the volcano, the roof crumbling... I'm all in a tizzy, chest hurting, at the vision and feeling of Severus being buried alived at the last dire second after everything... another gah! clutching the portkey pillow with Hermione... and we readers are awaiting the next chapter like nobody's business: Fantastic chapter, mistress o' fantastic storytelling! More, more, more! *pretty, please?*

you're so cruel! stop trying to kill Severus!!but I really love the story anyway ^^
Response from Proulxes (Author of Anima Mea)
"But trying to kill Severus is a) exciting b) almost impossible c) a bloody good reason for Hermione to want to help/save/shag him..." whined the author..... I'm glad that your loving the story, despite the cruelty of Severus' treatment. Although... keep reading... it might not really be a cruel as you think....! Pxx

And Marcus Fiducius stepped out of the shadows, twirling Snape’s wand in his long fingers. Dammit. I wondered where that sorry bastard had gone. She knew that Snape, exhausted and depleted and without his wand to focus his magic, would be buried alive. This evil cliffie may just be the worst one you've written so far!See what a fine mess you've gotten them into? I know Severus must have a plan, but for the life of me I can't see how he plans to get all of them (except the Aedile, of course) out of harm's way. Could a section of the ceiling take him out? I'm trying to figure out how Hermione can get her hands on her wand...Thanks for another rip-roaring chapter!!! (I'll be all right as soon has my heart slows down...) Great story, my friend.Beth

Hi Beth! Great to hear from you again! I'm glad you liked the chapter - they are in a miserable situation indeed. I hope that the next chapter will pack an emotional punch - its with my beta at the moment so hopefully won't be long before it's up. Thanks again for reviewing my story :) Pxx

Gripping as usual. And the Indiana Jones line fit so well, it didn't even occur to me that that was the borrowed bit until I read another's review! Did you use any other sources to write about Pompeiian architecture and Roman culture in general, or do you have a background in this area?
Response from Proulxes (Author of Anima Mea)
Hi Belladonna - thanks for your review! You got me - I studied Classics at university and have a particular interest in the Roman world. The story came about for two reasons - the first one was from HP but I can't be too specific yet because that will give far too much away in terms of what is actualy going on, and the second was that I took a school trip to Pompeii. When I was there, the more I read and saw in the museums of that area just kept making me think of Potter. Sabazios and his snake familiars were real (well, he was a 'real' deity, worshipped in Pompeii at the time), the Vetii brothers (twins? --we are not sure!) were real. The tales of 'magical' disturbances and earthquakes were taken from the accounts of the time. The volcano really did erupt (according to Pliny!) on the day after Vulcanalia. It was as if the story wrote itself in front of me. So I researched more fully - the two books quoted are the best ones I could recommend if anyone wants to read more - but I've used others as well to cross reference. Severus' house is based on a real Pompeiian house (although I have invented the exact design of the mosaic floor, although that too is based on the Roman habit of having cheerful skeletons around the place....) So it's accurate to a degree, but I've bent the rules a bit to surprise and (hopefully) entertain. Oh lord, I've written you an essay. Pxx

I had a feeling and thought 'I'll check' and ... yes! Updated! And a glorious update it was, very visceral, especially Snape channeling the dark magic; Hermione's moment of clarity, also. Overall, it's entrancing. I'm so relieved to see the next chapter in the queue, I can't wait! Also, well done with the volcano; it may seem strange to say, but I'm finding it enjoyable to have it in the story as a natural threat (Pompeii and it's history aside, though another fabulous aspect of this story), because volcanos are not often used in writing for such purposes, at least from my limited knowledge. It's a nice 'second antagonist,' while also being a kind of ally.

! FYI: I think you can fiddle with your settings, or profile, or something (!) to switch on an email alert that will tell you when a specific story is updated if you 'favourite' it. :) Glad you are still enjoying the story - the next few chapters, hopefully, will be coming pretty regularly as we head towards the end.... The volcano works, doesn't it? It's hard to keep it rumbling in the background while all the other action is happening... ;) Pxx

Yes! Yes! Yes! Another chapter! And another cliffhanger. Snakes? What is is with the snakes? There is so much rebirth symbolism in the story it gives a person hope that Snape somehow will join the present living folks in the future and live happily ever after. And he's given Hermione his soul back. Too bad she missed the Dark Magic fireworks. I hope she kicks Sabazio's scaly golden ass and rescues her man. I also hope that their friends Conviva and Marcella and even Restitutus can make a life for themselves somewhere on the mainland in the past, I'm not too interested in them coming forward in time, but I hope the five of them all get off the island still in the past and can reunite with the kids. Is that too much to ask for? I'm not sure how they'll do that and use the portrait to get back to the present, but I can hope, right? And does all of this mean that Hermione has her fill of archaeology in the end?

Hi
Response from Proulxes (Author of Anima Mea)
- thank you for your review! I'm delighted that you are picking up on the rebirth symbolism here (it's important, as you rightly suggest). The portraits are also significant, but I'm not going to say how! Not yet!! You can hope. That's all I'm prepared to say. (*grins*) Well, that, and the next chapter is in the queue. Pxx

Snakes. "Always – fucking – snakes,"Can you fault me for having a bit of an Indiana Jones moment there? :) But a more perfect line (or plot point) could not have been written. Can't wait to see how you get our heroes (but not Sabazios) out of this! Thanks for posting.hm88

Tension, tension everywhere! And well-executed, too. Along with the manticore scene, Conviva's edginess making me edgy, and Hermione's barely-held composure, the cut-backs to the relatively placid hospital scenes are a good way to keep us hooked!

Response from Proulxes (Author of Anima Mea)
! It's lovely to hear from you. I'm trying to balance the tension with more lighthearted scenes to relieve the pressure, and that has been one of the most challenging aspects of writing this fic. Getting a balance between different elements has always been one of my goals, and so it's great to hear back from readers about it. I hope you keep reading! The whole thing will be about 30 chapters' long. Best wishes, Pxx

Lovely Story - and so many clues/strings left for imagining. Strange device in Dumbledore's office, a horocrux that is different in creation and effect, time turner, portraits, a Snape that is physically present with correct scars contrasted with a Hermione that although physical also has a body in "present time." When you add in a volcano... And reptilian 'bad guy' you have created an awesome tale.Awaiting your next installment to see how you take care of the thee muggles and craft a solution to keep our two magical folk together somewhere (hopefully with neither in only a portrait form.). Thanks for writing.

I am completely wiped OUT by this chapter. Have been following AM over the months and had a forced hiatus after Hurricane Sandy took out my internet access for a while. Sort of a good thing, since I got to catch up on a batch of chapters rather than biting my nails incessantly :) I sincerely apologize that I haven't left more reviews, because this is one hell of a great story. The interweaving of history, mythology and Potterverse is completely addictive and I cannot wait to see how/if/whatever these guys escape the twin menaces of Vesuvius and Sabazios.

This chapter wore me out, so I know Severus and Hermione must be exhausted. The volcano is blowing its top, the battle with Sabazios is fierce, and the damned Inferi are getting closer. I hope Hermione was right about something seemingly insubstantial, like the remnant of Mercury's caduceus will be able to go through Sabazios' protective shield. I think the caduceus is the perfect weapon since Mercury was known to plot against other gods for the benefit of humankind. There is so much hanging in the balance. Severus and Hermione, Conviva and Marcella, and Restitutis have to be able to get back to Severus' house and the portrait/portal before the pyroclastic flows begin. I am encouraged that things seem to be moving in the right direction at Hogwarts. Would it be too much to hope that all of the refugees from Pompeii could land right in the middle of Filius' office?Thank you for another rousing chapter!!!Beth

Great! Glad you liked it!! I don't think that things will work out quite as Hermione hoped, but don't forget Mercury's wand.... Thanks again so much for taking the time to review!! Pxx

Zoiks, Scoob! Talk about keeping a delicate balance -- stay long enough to ensure Sabazios doesn't survive, but get the hell out of Dodge in time to live! The fight was well done. I could picture it all happening! Kudos!

Ooooh... Excellent meeting between Sabazios and Severus. VERY curious how *Hermione* doubled over in pain when Severus was cursed -- unless something else is happening to her concurrently (which is still curious!). As soon as you said the flies were more numerous than normal, I had a feeling some sort of coverup or cleanup was in play. :) BTW, the punishment ledger from the last chapter is very interesting. (Dashing off to read the next chapter...)

Aw... the image of a small Hermione, so very proud of what she can do for herself... and her daddy, sad that she doesn't need him... very bittersweet -- and foreshadowy. Excellent imagery. Now, the scenes in Pompeii are appropriately scary. :) Fiducius is SUCH a bastard, and I imagine Severus will help him in order to save Hermione, but she's (currently) safe already, with a means to get home, even. (But, "we" *do* still have to save Conviva and Marcella...) Off to read chapter 22...

I'm glad you liked the dream sequences -- the one with Robert and Hermione is adapted from a real story that I was told by a friend of mine. Although, erm, no actual magic was involved in that case.... ;) Pxx

What a battle they're having, none of them sure what powers the other is using, and all the time our two have this horrid deadline in mind. The poor Muggles must be paralised. Inferi?! ... and now you simply end a chapter, nasty!

Sorry for evil cliffie.... This chapter was huge when I wrote it, and I had to split it somewhere... They'll be a slight delay in getting the next one up because I have a naughty one-shot posting next week, but normal service resumes after that! The muggles are terrified, H not much better... But in the next chapter I am going to unleash Severus...! Pxx
