Excellent chapter! I was nervous about it -- not sure if Severus would survive -- at least he's made it this far... now Hermione just needs to figure it out... or will Severus swoop in at the last minute with a flash of brilliance -- or is he tooooooo resigned to his fate to even try? Hmmm...

...It will take Severus to a place when he needs to risk everything to try to get her back. Expect an emotional final chapter (before an Epilogue to round everything off!)... Thank you so much for your support and reviews,

- they are much appreciated! Best wishes, Pxx

We are nearly there! The nails have only got to survive two more chapters though, so pace yourself! All will be well... eventually! But it will take Severus being prepared to lose everything to gain what he wants.... Best wishes, Pxx

Dumbledore to the rescue? Please tell me he isn't there to further gum up the works. After all the master manipulator did in his own lifetime, perhaps there's a shred of hope that he's trying to make amends so his own soul can rest?Regardless, I'm very much enjoying the ride. (AND the amazing insights of so many of your reviewers!)Until next time--hm88

! Lovely to hear from you again. Just call him a deus ex machina (I think he'd love that!!). *Snort* Two more chapters to go. (I love the reviews too - they have really made me think hard about my ideas, and the feedback has also encouraged me to keep going and strive to improve. I have been blown away by the response to this story and you have been a big part of that, so thank you!). Best wishes, Pxx

What dynamics and intrigue and magic! From the heart-thumping surges hailing down on Hermione and Severus to the group effort spells being cast-- the thin blue misty magic seeping and caressing through the ashes and then--then to have Severus returned (his tomb/coffin--ufff!--yes, I'm claustrophobic and hope Harry & Ron get their a**** there quick!!!)--but Hermione is still there--and the pair of high heeled, purple, buckled boots--squeeee!Utterly in gaga-mode, flabbergasted and delightfully delirious & astonished with this tale and your divinely gifted talent, Proulxes--thank you for gifting fandom with this jewel--no, I can't gush enough! but can *squeee*xxx

Whew. I'd been worrying about the 'character death' from the beginning. Your use of language was perfectly fine for me. Of course, I don't speak the language you were attempting so my opinion may not matter.Such a rollicking, good, apocolyptic event that I just now was able to pause long enough to leave you a review.

Hi Phyllida! Thank you for your review! I'm glad you are still enjoying the ride - it's all insane action for a bit - then back to the volcano! Lovely to hear from you again. The next update is due this Friday - if you've caught up by then! Best wishes and Happy New Year! Pxx

So, Severus' "butler" said that it was summer. Are you going to go with the August date or the November date for volcanic eruption? (Historians say August, but some say it didn't erupt until November) If the August date, then they don't have much time to figure this out! Great story, I will be following to see how they get out of this.

! Thank you for your review and Happy New Year! I am really flattered that you are enjoying the story. In answer to your question I'm going with the August date for the eruption although I am aware that some people have suggested a later date, that appears to be largely from coin evidence found in later digs in Pompeii. These coins were dated to October / November 79 AD but they may well have been from Roman grave robbers and looters that descended on the city after the eruption had ended. Severus and Hermione don't have much time but that actually is very important for the plot! Thanks again! :Px
