I couldn't read this one fast enough. On pins and needles the whole time. Now I must wait for more. Hopefully you will not make me wait too long! From what I read of your comments below, it will get worse before it gets better. Great job at suspenseful writing. I love this story.

Hi there! Glad you enjoyed it - I was lucky with the chapter queue this time around and, thanks to the brilliant Admins (who work so hard to help us with our stray commas and hopeless apostrophies), this one posted very quickly. I'm really glad you enjoyed it - the next chapters are in the queue. It can take up to four weeks to post here, but it is so worth it! Thank you for takign the time to respond to my story!! Px

Eagerly awaiting the next installment. I'm glad to see Marcella and Conviva back in the story and glad that Severus has a new vengeance for life.

Ooooh, yes, to quote one of my favourite authors, Severus Snape is now "f*****g awake"...! Major action is on its way. Thank you very much for your review. Px

Hummmmm... you've given me a lot to think about in this chapter. •Thank goodness Marcella's and Conviva's sons are safely out of the city.•The butcher's imminent demise made me think of Charity Burbage. •Strabazios' form reminds me of Nagini.•Strabazios' dancers reminded me of little Naginis.•Is the reptilian form related to the meaning of the snake as a symbol of healing and rejuvenation?•Did the original owner of Severus' house at least partially achieve his desire for immortality?•Did Marcus Fiducius suck up to the original owner of the house in his efforts to regain his position in Roman society?•Does the papyrus Hermione found have anything in common with Septima Vector's scroll of the Book of Thoth?Excellent chapter! Thanks for all the delicious clues. I've really enjoyed trying to figure out what they mean, and even if I'm totally off the mark, it's fun to try!Beth

Oh my aching head! Did I read this right? If Sabazios recognized the grinning mosaic skeleton on the floor of Severus' bath... and wanted to know why he was living there... and wanted to know what had happened to the shrine in the basement... ...could Sabazios have been one of the charlatans or fakirs that the original owner of Severus' home had hosted in his bid to achieve immortality? This story has more twists and turns than a dog's hind leg! Very damned clever of you, missy. I never know when something is clue or a red herring, but I am totally loving this!Hermione did well in her bid to lead Sabazios away from things she didn't want him to see in her mind. Not well enough, but better than I had thought she would. She's still a powerful witch to have been able to end her spell that kept Severus from waking up.And now Severus is awake and loaded for bear. I know there will be plenty of action to come (I read the spoiler in your response to sunny33's review), and I'm truly looking forward to how you pull this off.Thank you again for a great chapter. It kept me on the edge of my seat.Beth

Hi Beth! Thanks for your review -- it's always such a pleasure to receive your thoughts because you give me interesting ideas to think about! You are very, very close about Sabazios!! Yes, there's lots of action to come, and the answers to the big mystery will also be revealed in a few chapters' time. The next chapter is close to publication already (I hope).... Our heros have a way to go before they find each other again! Best wishes, Px

This is brilliant. I love all the details about ancient Pompeii in this - you really brought the city to life for me. The Horcrux plot and how Severus managed to save them both was very intriguing as well. I'm glad you left some ambiguity about whether there was real time travel involved or whether it was just the coma. And the happy ending for our couple is wonderful too. I enjoyed this very much!
Response from Proulxes (Author of Anima Mea)
Oh thank you, Dreamy!! I am really pleased that you enjoyed reading this story. It was a real labour of love for me to put it together and I am particularly delighted that you liked the ambiguity at the end as well. I am working on another historical time travel fic - once Iago has finished I will have the time to get it bashed into shape and begin to post! In the meantime, thank you so much for taking the time to review! Best wishes, Pxx
Okay, so I can keep up with about a quarter of Vector's theory. But I really liked how she got as far as she did. Also it's very worrying how Hermione reacts physically to the stressors in her other life. It seems she's heading towards a catastrophic physical failure which may prevent her from getting Snape out of as much trouble as he's in.

Hi

- thank you for your review! Vector's explanation came about due to the combination of a lovely Maths teacher friend of mine, a glass of whiskey, a sofa and an episode of The Big Bang Theory...! Things are certainly getting very, very tense in the 'modern' world... and they're going to get worse.... :Px

This story becomes more and more interesting as time progresses, while losing none of it's interest and intrigue. Love the way Conviva picks up the narrative and allows us an entrance into the story from an outside perspective (like the reader's own after that intense memory experience). Also, I really enjoy the way Mrs. and Mr. Granger are attempting to communicate with the Healer; I can't say I'm very pleased with the Healer's plan, but we will have to see what transpires. Also, I'm very interested to see how body and soul are explained, if "soul" is even an apt description. More precisely, I look forward to understanding the way in which Severus and Hermione exist (or don't necessarily seem to exist) in seperate places and times, tied with the Horcrux and the runes/portraiture, etc.

So, looks like they're figuring out that Severushas a horcrux. Wonder what'll happen when they twig on to the truth. I also wonder what'll happen with Hermione. I'm guessing Severus will want to throttle her when he finds out she delivered the potion without him.
Response from Proulxes (Author of Anima Mea)
They are inching towards the answer... But you're right to focus on the blood. Good question...! Thank you for the review. Severus will certainly not take kindly to being Stunned and left behind! Next up... Hermione meets Sabazios and abandons reason. :Px

So when she cut herself, her blood activated the mosaic somehow? Or have I lost it completely? :P
Response from Proulxes (Author of Anima Mea)
Yes... It was very hot. She felt faint, wobbled, and then she fell and hit her head on the mosaic and the fall broke the skin on her forehead. I worried quite a bit about this section -- clear and straightforward Arithmancy explanations are very hard to come by, and I wanted Harry to be a bit confused to reflect that. You got it! Thanks for the review. Px

Ooooh! Making progress here! But how long before that volcano muddies up the works???Thanks for posting--hm88
Response from Proulxes (Author of Anima Mea)
It's coming... Pliny says that the volcano erupted during the day after the feast of Vulcanalia. IN this chapter, Hermione is watching the Pompeians prepare for the feast which is due to happen the following day.... The clock is ticking. Thanks for the review. This was a bit of a filler chapter - but important for the bigger plot. Best wishes, :Px

Nice trick fixing Sev's clav, now we just need them to get out of dodge before the pyroclastic flow, and they can maybe get their relationship sorted.

Hermione fought like the Lioness she is when it looked like the Manticore was going to devour Severus. He was very lucky to have her with him, and she even brewed the Metamorphmagus Potion. But what's this about taking the potion to Sabazios? There is no other way, is there? Severus is too banged up to take it himself, so she has to do it.When Hermione's dad began questioning Dr. Spleen about the effects of the Wrackspurts all I could think of is "poor Luna." I imagine Robert will have a few questions for his daughter's friend. Speaking of Hermione's friends... what's going on back at Hogwarts and that unusual portrait of Snape and Granger? Thanks for this GREAT update!Beth
Response from Proulxes (Author of Anima Mea)
I'm really glad you liked the chapter (I enjoyed writing it!). Yes, Hermione fought hard... But shortly she'll have much more to deal with than a vicious beast. More coming soon. Thank you for your review. :Px (p.s. Robert finds Luna maddening, but her interventions will buy them some time later on in the story....)

I cracked up when Severus lit the torches with those little blue flames. He didn't miss a thing, did he?I'm worried about how this confrontation with the Manticore is going to turn out. Even if Hermione can keep its attention long enough for Severus to collect the blood, they still have to get out in one piece. Getting into the pen won't be a piece of cake, but holding the creature's attention will put Hermione in a position to be hurt, and then they have to get out. You take good care of 'em, ya hear? Now I'm off to the next chapter!Beth
Response from Proulxes (Author of Anima Mea)
Hi Beth! I'm glad you picked up on those flames -- just a little 'in joke' on my part... ;) The Manticore will be tough... but not, perhaps, as difficult as the aftermath. I will take care of them, although they've got some hard times coming in the short term! Thank you for taking the time to review once again. :Px

MOST excellent! I loved the description of the manticore and the confrontation with it -- and how she compared it to what she'd learnt. Interesting how her physical body (in the present) was thrashing just like she was in Pompeii.

So intense, one event after another! The switches between past and present are handled nicely; I also liked the way that the doctor makes a (presumably) faulty diagnosis, juxtaposed with his mirth of wrackspurts. I also really liked the description of the manticore, from pitiable to ferocious and how is sort of highlights the ways in which we are moved but also presumptive about other beings. Always looking forward to your updates.

Oh, what an action-packed chapter. GREAT read! Their mission didn't go well at all! Severus managed better several times on his own. Now they were two but barely made it out alive, even cutting themselves off from the source of blood for the future. Its quite common for newly-formed teams, but hey, some better preparation might have helped, Mr Snape. Befriending the Manticore? I can already imagine Severus' face when she will suggests that. You described its pathetic state very well, but harmed animals are even less predictable than healthy ones. Poor Robert Granger. I love your side-story!
