Yes! I have been anticipating the sequel for a while, it seems like it's been forever! Great so far, looking forward to seeing the next years in your terms. I enjoy them so much better than JKR's version. (Blasphemy, I know, but ah well.)
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Better than JKR's version??? SQUEEE! Thanks so much for the lovely review :D
Holy shiiiiiiit. I am so exciiiiiiiiteeeeeed. Can't wait for the next chapter!!! Wow. Breathe. Okay. 1. Brilliant start. 2. I loved that you covered the kiss from his perspective. 3. I'm glad Severus is still going to protect Draco. 4. I like his ambiguous final line, here: "My master told me to." Brilliant. Did I say I can't wait??? :) Thanks for sharing! -CC
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Hey there! Thanks for such a lovely review :) 1. Thank you. 2. I thought that kiss was worth reprising ;p 3. I can't see SS giving up on Draco, he's not that kind of person. 4. I imagine SS as a bit of a master at telling ambiguous truths. Thanks again for the totally excellent review. :)
What an excellent, intriguing, riveting start!!! Brava!
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
*dances around the room in utter delight*I can't possibly tell you how happy I am that you might think so!
Loved both of your Phoenix stories.Suggested title for the third part of the trilogy - Phoenix Reborn.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Thank you very much! It's such a pleasure to hear that people have enjoyed them. :)Thanks, too, for the title suggestion. I hope to have the time to work on the next story very soon!
Sweet! Knew it was going to be a three parter! Well, hoped! How about Phoenix flight?
Response from debjunk (Reviewer)
Oh, yeah, one other thing. Get writing!
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Yeah, it was always going to be a trilogy, right from day one, but I didn't want to say so in case I wasn't up to the challenge. :)"Flight" is definitely a good suggestion, though right now I'm leaning towards "Fire".I'll start writing just as soon as I have some free time!!
Response from debjunk (Reviewer)
I saw 'fire' in someone else's review. I love it too!
Wow! Not what I expected for the ending! But good in any case. I don't see what the big problem is--one good reducto curse and the problem of the elder wand is solved! *HA*Good wrap up of most of the issues, but you have left enough loose ends dangling to leave us eager for the third story. Excellent tale overall and a nice handling of the dynamic between Snape and Granger. Thanks for all your effort and creativity.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
I kind of think that an unbeatable wand might be capable of withstanding a reducto curse--even on its own! :)Thanks for the review.I wanted to offer some closure, but not so much that there wouldn't be room or reason to keep going. Thanks, again.
I hate you.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Umm. . . am I supposed to take that as encouragement? ;pLOL.
Response from Maraigh (Reviewer)
I'm sorry, I was very emotional the day I finished your fic. I love-hate you so much.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Much better! :)
Glad you're making it a trilogy, was sad to see that this one had ended.Am looking forward to seeing what happens with Jocelyn, and of course with Snape and Hermione.Liked Severus' observations about the article. Sad that he was the only one to notice the danger...Really enjoyed this. Looking forward to the next!
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Thank you very much! Jocelyn certainly has a role to play, and of course Severus was the one to spot the danger--in everyone else's defence, he did have the benefit of not having been caught up in the action when it happened, but only reading the summary. :)Thanks again for the review; hopefully it won't be too long before the next one starts up.
Trilogy sounds very nice indeed! I'm so glad this epic you're weaving isn't ending just yet - I like your Snape and Granger very much. Congratulations on your wins in the SS/HG Awards!
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Thank you very, very much--on all counts! I'll get to work on the sequel just as soon as I have some free time. :) Thanks, again.
What!!!!!You are soooo evil. A cliffhanger here? And here I had prepared myself for the end of a wonderful story. Any you give me the best gift ever, another story!!!! Yippie. This doesn't mean I'm not upset that you left us hanging here.Oh, the possibilities are endless with this new story. I cannot wait. You just understand these characters. You always find these inconsistencies in the real story and use them to your advantage. Brilliant!!! I love it, the Elder Wand, how did I not see that? I cannot wait for more. You are a great writer. Go write a book, for crying out loud! You would sell!
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Thank you very much! :) I'm both excited and nervous to write a story free of JKR's scaffolding--we'll have to both see how that pans out. :) I'm delighted that you enjoyed this one so much, thanks for all of your reviews along the way!
Ah, the most evil of all evils - the end of story cliffhanger. Thankfully, I know you have the will to actually write it, so I shall be keeping my eyes peeled for the third part! This has been an utter joy to read. I've loved seeing your world meet JKR's world, and have enjoyed how seamlessly they blend together. Here's to a completely new world with your next story, coming soon. Coming. Soon. *cough*
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Oh, I WILL write it--I can guarantee that! :) I'm completely delighted that you've enjoyed the story to such an extent. Thank you for a lovley review and I give you my word that I'll start the next one just as soon as I can snatch some time!
Yes Yes YES!!! (pumps both fists in the air in jubilation!)Hurrah for Phoenix Song and Phoenix Tears!!!Hurrah for the soon-to-be Phoenix Fire! (my vote for title)(remember that even though the fire consumes the phoenix, it also renews it, so that the Phoenix Fire means something that is ever-renewing and never-dying---as I hope to see Severus' and Hermione's love become?...and, of course, 'fire' is definitely associated with 'passion'--which I hope to see MUCH of in the third installment of the tirlogy!)I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE this story!(OK, I'll try to calm myself enough from my hysteria now to give an actual REVIEW)--I had not even THOUGHT of the particular glaring plot-hole you mentioned, but once you brought it up I saw it at once. Of COURSE, the wand had TWICE been won merely through expelliarmus--and it did not even 'have' to be a disarming of the actual Elder Wand itself, but only of the particular wand the wizard was using at the moment. So yes, ANY wizard who unexpectedly cast "Expellilarmus" on Harry -- anywhere, at any time, while he might be just innocently shopping in Hogsmeade , walking along a road, seeing off his children at King's Cross, anywhere, at any time -- might thus gain control of the Elder Wand! What a HUGE mess-up on JKR's part! And very insightful of you to find it!I'm very much looking forward to the third part of the trilogy, and how you're planning to wrap up the loose ends that are left. I did notice this is the first time Severus called him "Harry" (though he added and emphasized the "James"!)--so I look for how you will develop their relationship---mentor/student? eventual friends? I also expect some more James-Bondish derring-do from Severus as he helps protect Harry from any lingering Death Eaters or "wannabe Dark Lords" who may attempt to take the Wand. I'm intrigued by what the potions paternity test will revela about Jocelyn--and how that will play out. And, of course, then there is Severus and Hermione....and Minerva, who still needs a Transfiguration and Muggle-Studies teacher (sigh, and grin at the same time). Can't wait, can't wait, can't wait!!!THANK YOU so much for all the joy you've given us by this sharing of your rich imagination, and I am SO looking forward to the beginning of "Phoenix Fire" (hint hint--grin).Love,Countrymouse
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
THANK YOU for such an incredible, nuanced review. I'm just delighted that you're so happy about the promise of another installment. :)When I first read DH I was so astonished by the big plot hole of the Elder Wand that I assumed JKR must have been deliberately setting herself up to write another sequel, but hey, I guess not. I'll have to do it myself!!Phoenix Fire is definitely my favourite title suggestion at this point, though that could easily change again. We'll see. *grinsThere are lots of potential plot holes to fill--wanna be dark lords, romantic relationships, Jocelyn's parentage, arithmancy, NEWTs, etc, etc. Thanks for all of your support along the way; hopefully it won't be too long before the next installment arrives. :)
I've really enjoyed this story. Good cliffie, but even better - now we get a trilogy!
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Thank you very, very much! :)
Fantastic. Your characters are all so tenderly nuanced, it's impossible not to be drawn in and completely convicted that this, this! is the true characterization. :) Just lovely. Also, I think "Phoenix Ashes" has some serious metaphor potential.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Thank you very much! I'm so delighted that you find the characterisations convincing. :)Thanks for the review, and for the title suggestion!
I'm going to be interested to see how you deal with this... I'd think the elder wand problem could be solved easily enough, so I'm not sure how much of the plot... I really was expecting a sort of understanding between Ron, Hermione, and Severus, and then a rewritten epilogue. I'm a little wary of the trilogy idea... this had seemed like an alternate HBP and DH only, and a completely new sequel seems... I don't know. Very well written as usual, though like I said, I think the elder wand difficulty could be solved easily in a multitude of ways.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
I wouldn't be so sure that the Elder wand will be difficult to dispose of. Think about the unexpected defensive maneouver Harry's wand pulled off when Voldemort was chasing him on a broom. Apparently it learnt that skill on its own. Imagine how much a wand used for thousands of years by a long chain of Dark Wizards must know. There are a lot of other issues that need to be dealt with, too: Jocelyn, for one; the process of coping with the final battle; a dastardly plot to steal the wand; etc.I intended to write a trilogy from the very beginning of this long project, so I guess it seems weird to me that it would seem an odd idea to someone else. That all said, thanks for the review!
Woot! This is fantastic! What a fabulous chapter (even if it did end on a truly evil cliffhanger). The reunion between Severus and Minerva was so sweet and well played, especially Minerva's transformation to her Animagus form at the end. The close bond between Minerva, Severus, Poppy and Hooch was a nice touch as well. But the best part, the very best part, was when Severus laid into Harry about his interview expose on the Final Battle! “What imbecile,” he asked, ready to make his point, “declares his mastery of an unbeatable wand to the assembled hordes of a crowded room?” And he was just getting warmed up! “Your life might turn out to be short, Potter,” he sneered, “but at least it won’t be boring.” I'm so pleased that there will be a third installment to this story. I will wait for as long as it takes, never fear! I can certainly empathize with readers who say they won't read a story unless it's complete, but I would think that ongoing reviews help to keep a writer from burning out. If everyone waited until the story was over before reading and reviewing, most people would give up because they'd think nobody cared about what they were doing. Then there wouldn't be any finished stories! So thanks for plugging away for us, and we'll lurk in the shadows waiting for "Phoenix Reborn" or whatever it winds up getting called!
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Thank you very much for such a lovely review! I'm glad to hear that you're excited about another installment. :)I thought that having Severus return to his gloriously furious best was a good way to show how much he'd recovered and how he was still the grumpy Potions master that we know and love.As an author, I can attest that regular reviews are what makes posting worthwhile! I would enjoy writing the story just for myself, but it's the knowlege that people are following it and enjoying reading it that makes it worth the anxiety of putting it up in a public forum. Thanks for your support throughout, and I hope that it won't be too long before you're reading and reviewing the next book! :)
A trilogy! Thank God! You have no idea how relieved I am. I thought for sure you were about to leave Hermione and Snape on separate paths. I don't care how long it takes - I will definitely be waiting for more.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Thank you very, very much! I wanted to keep the narrative tension high right up to the very end, so I tried to keep the idea of the third story under wraps. :)Thanks again for the review.
I stopped reading around Ch 18, to wait until it was finished, because I couldn't bear to see your very well written and sympathetic Snape die. So once you were done, I peeked ahead to see he was still with us, and finished reading the story. Wonderful. Can't wait for the next installment.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
LOL! I had absolutely no intention of letting him die! He deserved much, much better than that! :) Though I didn't want everybody to know, because the narrative tension was better that way. I'm glad that you enjoyed the ending and I look forward to your company on the next installment! Thanks for the review.
oH MAN! Can't wait for the next bit. Excellent.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Thank you! I'm glad that you're so pleased. :)
Great! And a promised trilogy, what more can we ask for. How about Phoenix Rising, that is if it is only a trilogy?
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Thank you very much! I'm so glad that you're pleased. :) Thanks, again for the review.
Oh, now this is exciting! A whole new story! SQUEE!I can't wait to see what you will do with the next...
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Thank you very much! I'm glad to hear that you're excited! :)
Oohh, I got chills. Another adventure, whoohoo! I think another story is just the thing. I'm liking Phoenix Reprise. Besides, we still need to see a solid relationship between Severus and Hermione.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Thank you very much! An entire other story will allow them to spend crucial time together, don't you think?? :)Thanks, again!
As you can imagine, this ending is not even remotely what I (dare I say: we) envisioned. Thumbs up for leading everyone astray. Absolutely perfect surprise. And unfortunately, you are exactly right in assuming the fate of the Elder Wand. It is bound to backfire in canon too.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
I hoped that the ending would come as something of a surprise! :) I'm glad that it worked.I couldn't believe that Harry didn't bother to do something with the Elder Wand at the end of DH--it seemed like a huge problem waiting to happen. :) And now I plan to address it!Thanks for the review!
