Sequel to Phoenix Song or, Hermione Granger and the H-BP. By the time of Dumbledore's death, Hermione and Snape had worked together for a whole year. Now, however, they both have very different and very difficult tasks ahead of them. **DH SPOILERS**

Reviews for Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH)
So much in one chapter. Quite satisfying. I enjoy seeing his duties as headmaster from his point of view. I've always wondered how things went when he was alone with all his old friends. Sad that he has no one but some portraits as allies.I look forward to more. Thanks for the long chapter. It was wonderful to read.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Thank you very much. I have always thought that year must be quite dreadful for him, and also for those who called him a friend before the "incident" with Dumbledore. I'm really glad you enjoyed the chapter; thanks for the review.
Brilliant. Very believable and very satisfying.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Thank you very much! I'm so glad you liked it. *grins* Thanks again!!
Wow, this is great. I can't wait for the next chapter!
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Hey, thanks! I'm glad you liked it *grins* Thanks for the review.
I just really hooked to this story!!! All the little details make it so readable! Great chapter!
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Thank you very much! I'm really pleased to hear that. :) Thanks for the encouraging review.
This was a great chapter. Loved how you put that Severus took Hermione's photo. I wonder if she noticed? look forward to more.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Thank you very much! I'm really glad you liked it. :) There is no reason given in canon for why Severus went back to Grimmauld Place, and I wanted to contextaulise it. You'll hear about what Hermione's up to in the next chapter. Thanks again for the review.
Nice to see Dumbledore put in his place. :)
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Thank you! Severus deserves to get the last word every now and again ;)
Dumbledore should be set on fire. Good chapter.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
In a young-Hermione-Granger-sets-fire-to-his-robes kind of way? Or just his portrait, up in flames ;p Either way would work quite well! I'm glad you liked the chapter; thanks for the review.
Response from blue artemis (Reviewer)
Since he's dead, I'm guessing the portrait, in an eternal damnation sort of flame.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
*grins appreciatively*
It would have been wonderful if Hermione made it to Grimmauld Place when Severus could not talk. As it is, this story follows cannon so closely I’m afraid. For his life and for their lack of communication.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
I am trying hard not to contradict canon. The communications issue is one that they could resolve quite quickly if they put their impressive minds to the task. I agree that it would have been wonderful it they could have met up for a moment--for both of them. The next chapter is in the queue and should be up soon.Thank you for the lovely review. :)
Glad he's getting digs in at Albus. I loved his concern about Hermione, and how you worked canon into the 'real' story.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Haha, I love your distinction between the "real" story and canon *grins* Thanks for the lovely review! Severus deserves to get the last word with Albus every now and then! :) Thanks again.
Oh goodie, a new chapter! Exactly what I was looking for right before the start of a new week. I am enjoying this story immensely, as I enjoyed the previous one. I've always loved this sort of story, and you've done an excellent job of walking the line in terms of romance--tug of feeling, but no action, just as makes the most sense. Having this kind of story fit is part of what it makes it so satisfying.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Thank you very much for the lovely review. :) I'm really glad you're enjoying the story. It can be hard to get the balance of which you speak right, and I really appreciate your comments. Thanks again for the review.
As always, well written and entertaining.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Thank you! Who could ask for more than that? *grins happily*
yes! that has to be it! bravo! wonderful update and thanks so much
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Thank you very much! I'm so glad that you liked the chapter :) Thanks again for the review.
Loved it. I never noticed that inconsistency before.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Thank you very much! It stuck out to me the first time that I read the book and niggled away at the corner of my brian ever since: this story is the result. :)
Lovely chapter. It's odd looking at canon from a different P.O.V., but it's interesting too. I just hope in your world Severus survives.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Thank you very much! I only hope that it stays interesting ;pIt's nice, though, that we know so little of what Severus was up to during this time, so the chapters can sort of alternate between lots of new stuff and lots of switched POV stuff. Thanks again for the review.
I really enjoyed reading this chapter, and I'm so happy you pointed out the ** point. No wonder it sparked your interest! ^_^
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Thank you very much! I'm glad you liked it. The ** point is a pretty big oversight on the part of JKR's editors, I think.
LOL I thought that about the Obliviate as well! :)
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Yeah, I think it was a pretty serious oversight on the part of JKR's editors.
You are brilliant. I never noticed that inconsistency before. Very clever. I love this story as I've said before. I loved the fight on the Thestral when she couldn't see it and then she could. I always felt the appearance of Krum felt off at the wedding but it worked so much in your story. He was recruiting Muggle-borns. Loved it!Looking forward to more.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Thank you very much! *dances happily* I'm glad that you're still enjoying the story. :) I was always disappointed that Krum didn't play a bigger role in the later story--JKR had hinted that he would return and I found his cameo a little disappointing. And I think it was always a matter of time before Hermione could see Thestrals; I wondered what it would be like to be caught in that battle on an invisible horse. The whole thing must have been terrifying! Thanks again for the lovely review. :)
Loved this (as usual). You really write a good action scene in the broomstick scene as well. I was so amused by Kingsley's random Harry-Hermione moment. And I loved Hermione's doubts about Snape. And I love that your chapters are nice and long and you include so many characters/scenes in each chapter so that the pace of the story is always fresh and never lags.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Thank you very much! I'm particularly thrilled that you liked the action scene: I have to really work myself up in the process of writing them, it's not like writing other kind of description. Hermione knew that Snape was going to kill Dumbledore, so I think she would have dealt with that pretty well, but George's ear was something else entirely. Thanks again for the review; the next chapter should be up soon! :)
Oh wow, this is a great sequel. You raise an interesting question about Hermione and obliviate. :)You manage to incorporate canon and your own story so well and keep all the characters in character, it makes the story a joy to read.I look forward to your next update! I don't generally read WIPs but I made an exception for you.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Hey, weren't you just on Ashwinder? You're confusing me! ;)I'm glad you're enjoying the sequel, too. I'm posting updates weekly over the summer, and I'll hopefully be able to continue that schedule one the semester starts again, too.I really wanted to write a story that seemed as if it actually could have happened without contradicting canon; I'm glad that you like it! Thanks.
Response from cabooklover (Reviewer)
LOL, yeah, I originally found the story on Ashwinder but I prefer PP so I did a search to see if you were here. So glad to have found you on here.I look forward to the next update! :)
Another great chapter. I feel so sorry for Hermione with those feelings for Snape and not knowing what side he is on. I hope Snape is feeling just the same.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Thank you very much! There will be lots about Snape and how he's feeling in the next chapter. :) Poor Hermione, though. I see that battle above the Dursley's house as the moment where everybody has to realise that they don't have control over the situation, no matter how many plans they have made. Thanks again for the review.
Great!! You always have me sitting on the edge of the chair, reading in anticipation of what is to come. And you always succeed in making me laugh! Lovely chapter, as always...
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Thank you very much! That is high praise indeed that the drama keeps you engaged and the humour keeps you entertained; thanks!
Good point about Hermione and the Memory Charm; I hadn't noticed that before! Honestly, there were so many things about DH that had me gnashing my teeth in frustration...
Loved Kingsley's line, “Sweet Ganymede’s butt crack”! I nearly died laughing when I read that! One of the things I enjoy the most about this fic is how much extra characterization everyone is getting, especially the "walk-on" characters like Ginny who never made it past being two-dimensional in the series.Looking forward to more development with Jocelyn and her possible connection with the Malfoy family! I'm sure Draco can be persuaded to take her under his wing when the next term starts to keep her from being kicked around...
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Thank you very much! I'm so glad that you're enjoying the presence of the minor characters :) I really wanted to create a story where the sense of Hermione and Snape being part of a much larger community was apparent. Plus I wanted to provide an explanation for the weird errors such as that with Hermione and the memory charm. There'll be lots more Snape in the next chapter, so stay tuned! Thanks again for the lovely review.
How very true. I did enjoy the chapter quite a bit.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Thank you very much! I'm glad you enjoyed it. :)
This story is wonderful, please please please continue. :)
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Thank you very much! I'm delighted that you're enjoying it. :) The next chapter is already in the queue, so the continuation is not far off! Thanks again for leaving a review.
How could I not review, since you put it that way? As I believe I've said before, this story and its predecessor are wonderful: so close to canon and yet giving us more in-depth insights into the what, how, and whys of Snape's character. Looking forward anxiously to more.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Well, thank you for leaving such a lovely review--I can promise good returns on your investment ;)Seriously, thank you. I'm really glad to hear that you continue to enjoy the story.
