Reviews for Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH)
Well, yes, there is a cliffhanger. But what is a tiny cliffhanger (anvil-sized?) compared to my absolute certainty that this story will continue soon and that he is fine.Dreamless Sleep, I suspect. But he just must be alive. Must.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Well, your confidence was well-placed! Though he was touch-and-go for a moment there! :) Thanks for the review.
I'm curious as to why you felt the need to add in the peculiar resuscitation thing... other than that, another excellent chapter! I'm a little sad though, I don't want it to end!
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
It seems to me that magical bodies bleed and suffer pretty much the same as Muggle bodies--thus for the circuits of his brain to survive, he needed to keep breathing, even if his consciousness was elsewhere! :) Or, so I think. Thanks for the review.
What a rollercoaster, but seeing the events from another perspective was really enjoyable. You once again managed to keep the integrity of canon and yet weave a second story though it. Good job. But that evil cliffie!
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Thank you very much! It was an evil cliffie, but at least I posted the next chapter very quickly! :)Thanks for the review!
That is a truly evil cliffhanger. Evil, I say! I hope you update soon. It would be truly evil to let him die now.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
It would be heartless in the extreme to let him die at that later point! :) At least I had the good grace to post the next chapter quickly! Thanks for leaving a review.
I'm dying here... need more chapters.... ~pLeaSE~...I love this series... it is a series... right? or maybe a duo..? Dosn't matter as I love this no matter what... Well I wont like it if you stop of cause. =DAny way, just wanted to say that you are doing a wonderful job with this!
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Thank you very much for such an enthusiastic response! :)It is certainly a duo, I guess that counts as a series . . . where it goes from here is still kind of up in the air ;)Thanks again for the lovely words, the next chapter is in the queue and shouldn't take too long.
Things do seem to be getting more difficult for Severus. Hopefully, something happens soon that will help take the burden off of him. I don't think he'll last much longer the way things are going.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
With the benefit of knowing the original story, we can at least know that he doesn't have that much longer to hold out--but he doesn't know that. Thanks for the review; the next chapter should be up soon. :)
I just love reading your take on the tightrope Severus walks every day at the school, trying to help without being seen as actually trying to help. These are the bits I was so looking forward to this sequel for, and you're dishing them out in spades! It's also good to see Draco finally coming of age in an emotional sense, and thinking of Jocelyn's welfare (and his parents') before his own.I also loved how Severus sent the two dumbest Slytherins he had to "keep an eye on" Terry Boot, knowing that the DA students would easily get the drop on them. There's probably Slytherin first-years that could outperform Crabbe and Goyle! Glad the next chapter is already in queue--I am bouncing in restless anticipation...

Thank you very much! I got a lot of pleasure from thinking about and writing these scenes. Severus had a nearly impossible task to complete; I still can't believe that Dumbledore asked it of him.I think having Jocelyn around makes it a little easier to show some changes in Draco. It must have been nice for him to have a real friend (even if she is much younger than him)l Crabbe and Goyle can't have been the best company all those years!I hope you enjoy the next chapter, too.
How much is going on! It's brilliant, poor Severus doing all this on his own, but i think he is playing the part well and this will help him survive.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Thank you for the lovely review! Things are starting to careen out of control at this point in the story: the end is in sight.
So much! Draco, Neville, Jocelyn, Hermione. Oh my goodness. Wow, this chapter had a lot of movement, great. First off, I love Draco! At least how you have portrayed him. It's perfect. He's finally growing up. And I know Severus can count on him when the time is right. I am amazed at how friendless Severus felt at the beginning of this story and now he has all these allies. Beautiful relationships between your characters.I think Neville is on Snape's side too, he just doesn't realize it. But he knows that Snape is playing easy with him.Jocelyn is so sweet. I am intrigued to see what role she plays later in this story. I still haven't figured that out. Except maybe another reason for him to fight to live. He loves her and she relies on him. And now I do wonder if she really is a Malfoy.I am so mad at Dumbledore! Why does he keep admonishing Snape because Hooch figured it out? He was just as much at fault. She knew Dumbledore and Snape's relationship, and she put the pieces together. The Carrows are the two dumbest people I've ever seen. I cannot believe that they have enough brains to even follow Voldemort. What utter wastes of human beings. Not just because of their values and standards, but because they are inept. If I were Snape I would have petitioned to the Dark Lord asking him the pleasure of disposing of those two. They cannot be good enough to fight in a battle, and they whine and moan and complain. They are thicker than Crabbe and Goyle.Anyway, another zinger! I'm looking forward to more. I'm glad you have lots planned for this story. It's my fix.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
I'm so glad that you enjoyed the chapter so much! Thank you for leaving such a lovely and detailed review. :)Dumbledore gets concerned anytime that things he hadn't planned for happened. I'm really glad that you like my Draco! Having him play at being big brother for a while made it easier for me to portray his switch of sides, actually. I can't help thinking that it would be good for him. He must have been lonely with no siblings and only Crabbe and Goyle for close friends. Thanks again for the lovely review! The next chapter is in the queue so it shouldn't be too long.
Oh very nice, quick update, I like. Loved this chapter even more because of the Severus/Hogwarts setting - the glimpses into life at Hogwarts and how Severus deals with it is one of my favourite things in this story. It's so interesting to see flashes in Severus' mind on how best to strategise on keeping order at Hogwarts and the wry humour that goes with it (eg. when Severus decided that Malfoy didn't deserve the beating he would get if he was sent to tail Neville). Loved Neville's bellowing to the hall about Harry and the dragon, and loved Severus' sarcastic thought that the story was 'Gryffindor enough to actually be true! I see Hooch made herself a bit useful here in restraining Minerva from hexing Severus! And Severus' worry that he was showing too much - it's a very real thought that the reader can see Severus having in his situation - he is both trying to keep order and holding back just enough to fool everyone, which is quite an amazing feat if you think about it. (Surely more people should have realised which side he was on!) And that is precisely what's so wonderful about your writing - the emotion feels so true to reality.
I reckon you paint scenes very well too - when you wrote about how Severus chased after Neville, I could just see the scene happening like a picture in slow motion.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Thank you very much! I'm glad that you enjoyed it. :) I actually found this chapter tricky to work out the timeline for--even though we know from Neville that all these things happened, trying to fit them back into a coherent order was a lot trickier than I had anticipated. I think one of the biggest problems was that JKR never actually had them in a time line, she just had Neville mention them. Anyway, as I said, I'm glad that you enjoyed it! Thanks again for the review.
Dangerous ground indeed.Great chapter. I really enjoy your version of events from Severus' POV.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Thank you very much! Rather an understatement on Dumbledore's part, wasn't it? :)
You are filling in the gaps beautifully! :)
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Thank you! :)
Wow, now we're getting somewhere! I love how the story picks up in speed and angst at this point. Severus is treading a fine line, he's a master at it - but it is such a tough job! I really feel for him. Jocelyn, next to Hermione, somehow reflects best all that is good, important and sacred to him. I DO hope there will be a reunion, even though it seems unlikely at this point...SOOOO anxious for the next chapter!!!
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
The story is definitely snowballing towards the ending at this point! And Severus still has his impossibly difficult task to carry out. Poor man.Next chapter is already in the queue . . . :)
Wow, so much going on! Poor Severus is running willy nilly to keep order. Too bad he has to do it alone. At least Hooch knows what's up. I have confidence in you that all will be well with Severus once the war is over.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Severus has an almost inconceivably difficult taks; I do not envy him. Thanks for the review!
I'm so glad that Severus got Jocelyn out of there. I really like your Draco. He would make a good big brother. I do fear that too many people are seeing the sofer side of Severus. Luckily, the Carrows don't seem terribly intelligent, so they may be the last to notice. And poor, poor Severus. How difficult it must be to keep up appearances. To be such a strong supporter on both sides, and keep everyone fooled. You are following cannon quite nicely, but I hope he gets a reprieve at the end of this tale. *dreaming of happy ending*
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
I think being a big brother might have saved Draco; or even having a few friends who were smarter than Crabbe and Goyle. Poor boy.I just don't believe that no-one would have noticed; he must have had moments where he slipped a bit.The ending is approaching one chapter at a time! :)
Now we're getting close to the part I've been dreading---Voldemort's summoning of Severus to the Shrieking Shack, and their "discussion" over the Elder Wand.I do SO hope you believe in Happy Endings as much as I do!Still reading faithfully...
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
That part is, indeed, fast approaching! I cannot say anything more . . . my lips are sealed.
Wonderful as usual!
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Thank you very much!
Love the update. I do hope Hermione comes to realise that Severus does actually desire her soon because poor Ron will be heartbroken.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Thank you very much! Hermione and Ron are going to have to sort things out, aren't they? They've been dancing around each other for years, but what that actually will mean in the long term is still up in the air. Thanks for the lovely review. :)
I still love the dragon ride the best. Wonderful chapter.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Thank you very much! I'm glad that you enjoyed it. :)
Another lovely chapter, though this one felt very transitional. We're getting close to the Final Battle! I really liked the Ron-Hermione moment with the chess - probably helps keep spirits up knowing you've got a spy on your side. And Hermione seems to be getting very close to Ron suddenly - she seems to have managed to convince herself that Snape doesn't see her that way and I'm wondering whether the newfound thing with Ron is genuine or Hermione subconsciously trying to not think about Snape? I can see this one being some huge dilemma at the end especially with the memories of Lily and the kiss with Ron still to come, assuming you're putting all that in of course.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Thank you very much, I'm glad that you enjoyed the chapter. Things are snowballing towards the end of the story, now, without a doubt.I will be puting it all in, don't doubt that! All should become clear, eventually. It is undeniably true, though, that Hermione is drawn to hug or kiss Ron every time he says something nice about Snape, or about a house-elf, of course . . . ;pThanks again for the review!
Very good!! I love this so much!!
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Thank you very, very much! :)
I'm feeling just like Hermione, things are drawing to a close way too fast. I want you to drag out this story as long as possible because I love it so.But the anxiety is killing me too! This is Snape's last night alive...unless you have him live. And they didn't get to spend very much time together while she went "running". But I'm wondering about Ron too. He's catching on and will he help when the time is right? And how does Hermione feel about him compared to Snape? Oh, so many questions and so little time! The story is at the climax! *screams in utter frustration (in a good way)*Seriously looking forward to more!
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
There are still a number of chapters to come--I'm aiming for 25, all going well! But things are starting to tumble towards the final confrontation, that is for sure :)I'm really glad that you're enjoying it so much; thank you for leaving such lovely and regular reviews.
Well, there was a lot to like here. First, regardless of the nature of the relationship between Severus and Hermione, he cares about her and she knows it. It is providing her strength and that is exactly what is needed at this point in time. I hope he gets the same from her.Second, I love Ron. And, I love Severus. I always hate to see either of them painted in a bad light, and your story does justice to both of them. The chess scene was nice.Third, I really like that you just glossed over the scene at Gringotts. I think it is a great part in canon, and I am not criticizing any author who decides to include detailed sections of canon in their stories. I do, however, think that anyone who is reading fanfic surely has read the books a time or ten. It wasn't necessary and I am glad you thought so.As always, looking forward to more!
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Thank you very much for such a lovely and thoughtful review. :) Firstly, I do think that they are each supporting the other through a time that could break the strongest spirit; secondly, I love them both too, and I'm really glad you appreciate my attempt to show them both in their truest and best colours; and thirdly, I have tried to structure the story so that I only repeat scenes that are crucial to my extra narratives, and for which I feel I can offer some new perspective--the bank break in scene didn't fit those criteria. Thanks again for the review, I hope you enjoy the rest of the story. :)
Ohh, this is getting exciting. Harry is figuring out how to use Legilimency on Voldemort. Hopefully, they won't have too many problems getting to Hogwarts. Especially with Hermione and Severus being as close as they are.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Thank you very much! The end is approaching a great speed. :)Hopefully Severus and Hermione will manage to communicate . . . somehow! :) Thanks again!
Getting closer... Too bad she didn't figure out what to do about Harry-crux. Maybe she'll come up with something, huh?
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
She hasn't got very long left, though--she's going to have to come up with it very quickly indeed! :)Thanks for the review!
