Reviews for Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH)
More Please...:(
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
More soon! I promise!!Thanks for the review. :)
I love the way Severus manages to lessen people's punishment all over the place! Realistically I doubt it would be that easy, but its fun enough when somehow he gets away with it with the Death Eaters passing it off as him being the 'consummate Slytherin'!I really like Severus' snarky thoughts. You throw them into the middle of a very serious scene (eg. 'Briefs, who knew?' and make me laugh entirely at odds with the entire tone of the scene around it). It's also great seeing the pool scene from Ron and Severus' point of view - and I really liked that Severus grudgingly acknowledged that Ron was not as stupid as all that - I've always liked Ron and sometimes I reckon the Ron-bashing in the SS/HG ship particularly goes a bit overboard. Ooh, and nice conclusion, with Severus seeing Hermione (kind of). I'm not going to complain about Hermione not being awake for the meeting though! Them not really meeting just adds to the dramatic tension, which I'm sure will pay off much better in the end! Yes I am taking the long-term perspective HA!

Thanks for the lovely review! I'm a big fan of Ron myself, so I'm glad to hear that you like him, too. I don't think that he makes a great match for Hermione in the long term, but I don't think that means that I need to bash him into a parody of his less-admirable traits, either.I'm really glad that you liked the scene in the tent; I do think it will make things even more worthwhile in the end that she didn't wake up. :)Thanks again for the review.
What a great chapter, everything fits perfectly (and who cares for those two extra lines?) and I'm already anxiously waiting for the next chapter!
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Thank you very very much! I'm so glad that you liked it. Next chapter on its way!
Well, he already knows about the Horcruxes, right? Loved your take on this. His going to the tent, unable to help himself. Unable to NOT stroke her hair. Too bad she didn't wake up.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
It's true that in my version he does; I just can't imagine that anyone as gifted in the Dark Arts as he is wouldn't have rumbled what was going on.Thanks for the lovely review! I'm glad that you liked the scene in the tent. :)
Response from debjunk (Reviewer)
Went over to your lj and read your comments. I couldn't agree with you more. JKR really made a brilliant man look pretty stupid just so it would fit in with her story line.
I liked that he didn't wake her but what was he thinking? Doesn't he know that we are desperate for some SS/HG interaction? Still enjoying this very much! Let that guilt encourage you to keep the chapters coming.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Thank you for the lovely review. :) Had she woken though, I can't imagine that they would have managed a satisfying conversation in the brief time they had at their disposal. I shall do my very best to keep the chapter coming at their current speed! Thanks again.
I liked the fact that he didn't wake her, made it so much more poignant! :)
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Thank you! I think it was better in the long term for her not to wake. Thanks for the review.
that was a terrifying chapter. thank heaven hermione had trained with severus. love the way you integrate the two stories, or have i said that many times before? but, it's twoo! it's twoo, it's twoo! thanks muchly
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Thank you! I'm really glad you liked it. :) *dances happily!*
Thank goodness the necklace is in her bag. No need to bring trouble and wear the stupid thing. I am looking forward to Severus POV and hopefully a speedy update?
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
No, wearing it seems like the height of foolishness. Harry will disagree, no doubt. Are you saying that weekly updates aren't fast enough? :) Thanks for the review.
the Arithmantic probabilities of doing nothing sunk so low that going to Godric’s Hollow proved a safer option You know things are bad when you've hit that level! Especially after what happened to them when they did go... On the other hand, it gave Hermione some valuable insights about Harry and his nature as a hidden Horcrux. Probably also why the locket was attempting to fuse itself onto him; it recognized him as another part of the soul and the two parts were trying to reintegrate. One can only imagine what might have happened to Harry's mind if that had succeeded...Liked your mention of the "radiator hiss" to explain what never really made much sense to me in DH--if "Bathilda" was actually speaking in Parseltongue to Harry the whole time and he never realized it, surely Hermione would have noticed the old lady sounding like a leaky balloon?
As usual, I await the next chapter fidgeting impatiently... I'm looking forward to seeing how Severus manages to deliver Gryffindor's Sword and anonymously chivvy Ron back into the fold simultaneously!
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
I agree completely with your assessment of why the locket fused to Harry's skin: I think that the presence of Nagini, the approach of Voldemort, the locket itself and Harry's scar Horcrux was an unprecedented number of pieces of Voldy's soul all in the one place. It did make me wonder what would have happened if they were all brought together. Perhaps there would have been no need to destroy them, maybe they would have all fused and then Harry could have killed him. I dunno what would have happened to Harry's mind in that case, though . . . ?I'm particularly pleased that you noticed the radiator hiss! :) That was an odd moment in canon. Thanks for the review! I'm glad you liked the chapter and I hope that you enjoy next week's installment, too.
What a great chapter! Loved it and am looking forward to the next one!! That's going to be interesting!
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Thank you very much! I only hope that the next chapter doesn't disappoint :SThanks for the review.
So now she knows. That makes it far harder for her. Great chapter, as always! :)
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
I think it makes things a lot harder for her; but I also think it's something she would have been likely to figure out--she had all the information at her fingertips, after all. Thanks for the review! :)
I always wondered why Hermione didn't react in canon to what MUST have been the hiss of 'Bathilda's' "Come!" spoken to Harry (in Parseltongue of course). Translating this as her hearing "the hiss of the radiator in the next room" made that incident finally make sense for me.And I'm still chuckling over "Sweet Salazar's Hufflepuff lovechild!" from the last chapter. The Shell Cottage / Fidelius Charm is a minor gnatbite--don't let it bother you.And looking very much forward to the next chapter--and any and all "special deliveries" that Severus might bring to the various members of the trio!
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Oh, I'm so glad that you noticed the line about the hissing radiator!! *Yay* I also found that bit of the original story very strange and wanted to explain it away, but I didn't think anyone would notice unless they had just read that chapter in the original or had an incredible memory!! THANK YOU. :)Thanks, too, for your other kind comments; have a great week. :)
''Special delivery'' oohh I guess what it is. As for the minor mistake of Shell Cottage, I didn't notice and the only way I would have, would have been to read that particular part of the book again.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
:) Since everyone knows the story already it should be pretty obvious--the special delivery, that is. Thanks for the reassurance re the slip up! I think I was mostly cross with myself because I had had the same thought, and thought that I'd double checked and it was actually okay. Oh well!! :) Nevermind!!Thanks for the review.
Very exciting chapter. I suspect the sword will make an appearance in the next chapter, judging by the title.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Thank you very much! And: you just might be right ;)Thanks for the review.
Don't worry, I checked with my good mate JKR and she actually wrote a scene where there was a fidelius charm on Shell Cottage for a short period after Ron arrived in case he'd been followed. She also says Snape can't read maps, so he was probably in the wrong place anyway. So you're fine!I'm guessing the Weasley's have given the ministry some sort of assurance that they're on their best behaviour - at this point Ron's meant to be in bed with diplomatic spattergoit *ghoul waves hello*. And doesn't Fleur have a job? Thought she was working at Gingott's. Anyhoo, one quarter Veela, Triwizard champion and a pain in the arse - would you take her on?!?!?!?
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
*laughs* I certainly wouldn't take Fleur on, but Bellatrix might not hesitate. She works part time, right? For her "eenglish". I still wouldn't have risked the wizarding world equivalent of a wide-open door and a welcome mat, but I'm probably far more paranoid than any of JKR's characters with the exception of Mad-Eye Moody and possibly Snape. Thanks for the reassurances!! :) Have a great week!
Poor Hermione, she has so much to deal with. I would cry every day if i were in her position, not knowing what to do, and the numbers looking so bleak. I hope she has enough of the antivenom to use on Snape. Or he has some on his person and she can give it to him before he dies.Maybe I'm just stupid, but I cannot, for the life of me, figure out what you mean by "special delivery." So I look forward to being surprised. You do a great job, even if you make silly mistakes like Shell Cottage (which I didn't even notice.) Thanks for making a bright spot in my day with your update.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Dumbledore left them all with an enormous set of burdens to carry. :(I'm afraid that she used all of the antivenom, but, you never know, maybe she'll find some more, somewhere?? I'm really glad that this chapter brightened your day, thanks for leaving me such a lovely review and returning the favour!(and you can look forward to next week's surprise.)
Ron really is maturing now. :)
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
He has to grow up sometime! *grinsThanks for the review.
This is wonderful, and I anxiously await the rest!
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Thank you very much! I'm glad that you're enjoying the sequel as well. I post updates weekly, so you shouldn't have too long to wait for the next chapter. Thanks again.
that was so how i pictured severus' first days as headmaster! superbly written! brava! bravisima! mille gracie!
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Prego! Sono contenta che ti e' piaciuto. :)Thanks for the lovely review. :)
"The realisation that both of his masters were insane did, however, make it easier for Severus to act independently when given the chance"<-- Isn't that the truth...well said. Very clever, making it seem like Jocelyn is a Malfoy by blow. I hope it works, Severus needs someone with him through this time.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Thank you very much! I'm glad that you approve of his strategy. :)Thanks for the review.
Hermione having help to modify her parents memories makes more sense to me. I readily accept the fact that she is extremely intelligent and could do it herself, but messing around with minds of other people, especially her parents, would make anyone nervous so having someone else there makes more sense to me. I wonder what Hermione was going to say to Snape and what the piece of metal was. Guess I better keep reading to find out.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
I'm glad you find the memory thing convincing. I have a lot of faith in Hermione's abilities, but I do think that messing with your parents' memories is a big task for an as-yet-unqualified witch to handle on her own. Besides, later on in the canon story she claims never to have done a memory charm--what's that about unless it wasn't actually her who changed her parents' memories? You'll find out exactly what Hermione wanted to say in the next chapter. :)Thanks for the review.
I'm glad you included Snape's impression of the kiss with Hermione, it was nice to see there. Snape really is a man of his word, saving Draco from Voldemort even after being released from his Unbreakable Vow. Shows what type of man he really is."my master told me to; I got the impression that the Dark Lord was pleased.”<-- I love this line, refers to both his masters, even if Draco doesn't realize it.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Yeah, I thought that kiss was worth seeing twice!! :) I'm glad you liked it. He is a man of his word, and protecting students is one of his main priorities. Even though Draco ignored his help throughout the year, Severus is not the kind of man to give up. Plus, I think he has a very Slytherin way with words. :)Thanks for the review.
Ohhhhh Lucius adopted Miss Smith. I should have figured that out from the chapter. Duh. Talk about hiding her in plain sight! What a gutsy thing for Snape to have done. I hope Hermione will get a chance to work on her arthmancy calculations whilst on the run. Can you get them a house elf so they dont starve on their camping adventure please? Once again I am sickned by the lack of faith in Severus by his coworkers. Does Poppy suspect or is she just be neutral? I hope they figure it out.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
It was definitely hinted at, but not explicit. I'm glad you liked the solution. :) As a technical "half-blood" she should now be fine. I wish they were going to have a house-elf; that part of book 7 was the strangest by far.Poppy took the hippocratic oath, she'd probably attempt neutrality no matter what happened, but hey, you never know what will happen. :) It would be hard, though, not to feel betrayed by Severus at this point. Particularly for those who thought of him as a friend as well as a colleague. Thanks, as always, for the review. I'm glad you're enjoying the story still. :)
Kingsley and Harry? Now thats a rare pair I havent read ANY of! I liked the back story of Kingsley and his kitchen. I would mind Kingsley playing a helping hand to the trio in the future. He seems like a good egg.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Kingsley's definitely got his heart in the right place. :) I'm glad you liked it. I wonder if there is any Harry/Kingsley fanfic out there; I feel sure that there must be.Thanks for the review. :)
I had hoped that Charity Burbage would survive your retelling of DH. No happy ending for you Ms. Burbage! Okay so how is Viktor going to get all the muggleborns out of Britian or Scotland or wherever they are in the summer? Thats a lot of children to hide....The child beater tattoo is brilliant. Im thinking Jake will have it for life just because is that stupid. Thankfully Joycelyn is outta that hell hole of a home. I had hoped that Severus would some how adopt her. HEY do we know who Joycelynn's father is? I cant remember. Your Plurijuice is brilliant! 10 points to your house for thinking it up!!
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Yeah, I'm afraid that Dumbledore sacrificed Burbage to the "Greater Good". He watched Severus' attempt to save all the children and though Voldy might get suspicious of his master spy if everyone who was a target suddenly evaporated.I imagine that Viktor is goig to use the Portkeys he developed the previous year . . . but you'll have to wait and see what he does. ;)I'm glad you liked the "child beater" tattoo. No doubt Severus has a good idea how shameful that kind of mark can be. And yes, Jocelyn is out of there, and no, we don't know who her father was--he didn't stick around. Thanks for the fabulous review! Gryffindor welcomes the points ;)
