Reviews for Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH)
And now he's a Daddy. This is a wonderful story. I do like the tatoo, by the way.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Well . . . maybe, maybe not. When disguised using the Plurijuice to be blond and blue-eyed, he pretended to be her daddy in public, and he does have a plan for her future, but it might not entail him adopting her.I'm glad you're enjoying the story :) Thanks for the review.
Lovely chapter, I loved how Severus saved that little girl.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Thank you very much! I'm glad you liked it :) I think she needed to be saved, and Severus needed to save someone in order to salve his conscience a little. Thanks for the review.
Oooh! Nice! Liking the addition of Jocelyn here. Liked her before, but I like her changing role. Keep it coming, lady, don't keep me waiting!
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Thank you very much! I'm glad you enjoyed Jocelyn's reappearance. :) There should be a new chapter sometime next week. Thanks again for the review.
Wonderful chapter. I love the idea of Snape adopting Jocelyn. She would bring out the best in him for sure. And he would fight to the death for her, even though she wasn't his blood. The love and devotion would still be just as strong.Great story. I hope he gets to see Hermione once in a while, but I must admit if you follow the book closely, there will be few if any opportunities.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Thank you very much! He hasn't adopted her yet--though her mother did relinquish all claims. And he does have a cunning plan. ;) I do think he'd fight to the death for her.Severus and Hermione certainly won't have the opportunities for interaction that they had the previous year, but there will be moments . . . I promise! Thanks again for the review.
Ooh this is so exciting! The entire Jocelyn angle completely threw me - it's great how you're managing to still introduce surprises like that into this story. So many twists and turns - right down to the entire bit of making Runcorn think Jocelyn could be Lucius' - that was so sneaky Slytherin! Aha Severus is so badass - ratty jeans and black leather jacket AND tattooing Jake??! Hell yeah!
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
I'm glad you liked it! :) Severus has to walk so carefully at this point in his life--trying to keep the kids at school safe without the "goodies" noticing what he's up to, not letting the Death Eaters realise that he's not what they think, etc--that I can't help but think that he'd let his anger fly a little bit further than he might have expected in other situations.Yeah, I totally had a mental image of him as a total rebel. :) Thanks for the review.
Response from ilsa (Reviewer)
That's so interesting that you said Snape might have let his 'anger fly a bit further' with regards to Jocelyn. I did think that his reaction was more extreme than usual but it was still within limits for his character so I didn't comment. Plus we got to see another side of his as well. =)
I'm so glad he took care of Jocelyn personally. What a horrible life for her. I can't help thinking that she and Draco will become great friends and I hope she's the woman he marries that we see in the Epilogue. Just a thought. Anyway, as always, a pleasure reading your work. When I write I envy you. It is just wonderful. Are you sure you're not an author? I think you've got it. Not that my opinion means anything, but I would love to write like you do. Your story parallels the JKR story so well, I'm just so impressed you've come up with it. I can't wait for another update!(Ha! Is my nose brown enough...)
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Thank you for the lovley, lovely review. :)This is the first piece of fiction I've written, well, that is, Phoenix Song was, Phoenix Tears is obviously the second. In my real life I'm an academic, so all of the writing I do there is non-fiction. Funnily enough, at a conference several years ago where I gave a paper, someone asked during the questions session: "Do you write fiction?" When I answered, "No," she replied, "Well, you should.":)Thanks again for the very encouraging words.
Bless Severus. With all the orders he is being given by Dumbledore and Voldy, he has his own missions too. I've been wanting to ask? SSHG eventually? or ssshhh lol. Look forward to more.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Thank you very much! I'm glad you're still enjoying it. As to your question, this is very much a story that has the relationship between Snape and Hermione at its centre; however, the type of relationship they have--student/teacher, friends, something more--may well shift and change as the story goes on. I guess, in the long term, it depends on whether SS lives or dies in the Shrieking Shack. He's taking Antivenom, to be sure, but that won't solve the blood loss or gaping-wound-in-his-neck problems . . . so I guess that's a wait and see! :) Thanks again for the review.
Response from Nessa (Reviewer)
ooohhhhh I can't wait!
you tied the actual story in with yours quite brilliantly. loved the scene between hermione and ginny. wonderful update. thanks so much
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Thank you very much for the lovely review. I'm glad to hear that you thought the point of connection worked. :) And I think Ginny needs more face time, though, once the trio hit the tent, she's not going to get it :( Thanks again for the review.
'My master told me to' meaning dumbledore? Love how you worded that. (Sorry been on holiday trying to catch up)
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Welcome back! I hope you had a wonderful holiday :)I did indeed mean Dumbledore; he's a sneaky man, that Severus Snape ;) I'm glad you liked it! Thanks for the review.
SQUEEjust finished reading last three chapters in a row - what a treatyou're keeping the fine form from the previous installment:memory modification chapter was intense, and Snape's POV - what a treat!seafood stew?oh, love me a man that cooks well :)but why are these chapters so short!?!more, dammit!thank youM
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Thank you very much! I'm glad you enjoyed it. The chapters are no shorter than those from the previous story; but they do say, time flies . . . :) Lots more Snape in the next chapter . . .Thanks again for the lovely review.
Very enjoyable... and just how did the twins get experience transfiguring ghouls? LOL
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Hmm . . . no idea! ;p But I'm sure they had some prank at some time . . . that's there style. I'm glad you liked it. Thanks for the review.
I know Lucius is in a depressing place, but hallucinations already? Is his mind damaged?
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Well, he's been there for a bit over a year, in a place swarming with Dementors, and I can't help but think Lucius must have some pretty dreadful memories hidden under that ordinarily suave exterior. Thanks for the review. :)
I like the way you got Severus's help to modify their memories. I hope the spell will be reversed at the end of your story.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Thank you! I hope so, too! ;) I guess we'll both have to wait and see . . . ;p Thanks for the reveiw.
Another brilliant chapter. As I've mentioned before, I love the backstory and rounding out of events of DH you give here, especially the amusing bits with the spattergroit. And then, in between advancing the plot, you manage to work in emotional layers like Hermione and Ginny's friendship and the tension between Ron and Hermione! Love the turns of humour with which you end each little scene too - Arthur's promising to help them with the ghoul (sans Molly) and Kingsley's winks at Hermione. Everyone is so in character here - I really loved the interrogation of Hermione by the four Order leaders - you subtly showed the personalities of all four of them just by small things like winking (Kingsley), Mad-Eye (disapproving), McGonagall's hard chair etc. I suppose I'm rambling on but I just adore you work - it feels so true to life with all the detail you put in. And it doesn't hurt that you regularly update, too!
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Thank you very much! Particularly for singling out all those little details of characterisation. When a character only gets the occasional line, I have to try harder to make sure everything they say seems right for them. :)I know that when I'm following a story it is much easier when the author updates regularly (otherwise I forget too many details of the story), and so I try to update weekly. :)Thanks again for the review.
Ouuu there was lots of good stuff in this chapter but my fav was Hermione's conversation with Ginny. It felt real. I cant think of a higher compliment than that. Woot
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Thank you very much! "Real" is about as good as it gets, compliment wise. :) Thanks! I have a lot of sympathy for Ginny, she pretty much embodies many of the gendered problems that the magical world seems to play out: girls can do cool things, too, but they only happen offscreen. :)Thanks again for the lovely review.
Response from MollysSister (Reviewer)
((nods)) I agree. I often think Ginny is more symbol than actual character. I have always assumed that she did a whole lot of hell raising at Hogwarts whilst the trio was camping. I wonder if there is a Ginny centered fic that really builds that up? Must go look.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
If you find a well-written version of that fic, let me know . . . (ps. you're spot on about the "symbol" vs. "character")
This is where I drool over your writting talent and praise you for you're clever weaving. Thankyou so much ;_; it's just so good.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Why, thank you! I'm glad that you liked it. :) I had a lot of fun writing it, and I'm just thrilled that you're enjoying reading it. Thanks for leaving such a lovely review.
Well, now I am all caught up. What an intriguing tale. And I can hardly wait to see if she can meet up with Snape at all in the coming months, or if she will have to wait until that fateful night in the Shrieking Shack.I had so hoped she would hug him before they parted ways at her parents' house, but his body language and demenor probably made her think better of it.Extreme circumstances cause people to act in uncharacteristic ways, however. I still harbor hope of an encounter or two before the disterous night of the final battle. But your writing has been exquisit so far, so whatever you intend, I trust your judgement that it will be a heart-pounding tale that I will look forward to.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Thank you for another lovely review. My plan is to update weekly so the next update is not too far away. :)I had hoped they might hug, too, but Snape and Hermione refused to comply. *sigh*There will be some kind of interaction between now and the final battle--but it won't be anywhere near as frequent as during the last year when they were both at Hogwarts and running into each other was a simple and scheduled matter. Thanks again for the review, I hope you enjoy the rest of the story.
I rather adore Arthur.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
I have an inkling that you're not alone on that front! :) Thanks for the review.
yay for Arthur and Kingsley!! when Hogwarts falls, Molly and Minerva and Moody will be very glad that Harry is gone with two close trusted friends. I like your Hermione; she isn't gaga over Won-Won. thanks for the new chapter!!
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Thanks for the review :) I feel so sorry for the Order at this point in the story--Dumbledore didn't exactly like giving anyone clear instructions, did he? And with Snape mistaken for a traitor, they feel exposed and betrayed. I bet they had lots of horrible, stressful conversations about What To Do Now. Thanks again for the review.
I'm torn. On one side, this is most enjoyable. Hermione is clever, although still a far stretch from a Mary-Sueish perfection, people around respect her and the behind-the-scenes footage of DH is enlightening. On the other hand, I miss HG/SS interaction, and knowing DH, it will be scarce at best in the foreseeable future. Or will it? Will Severus take more walks out in the woods this upcoming winter?
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
I'm glad that you're enjoying the story so far. :) The opportunities for SS/HG interaction are going to be substantially fewer than they were in the previous installment of the story, when they were both at Hogwarts. But there will be things happening in this story that weren't mentioned in JKR's version of the same tale. That is, it won't just be things that we already know happened, but told from another perspective, but there will be other events, too--and I guess that's as much as I want to say without playing spoiler to my own story. Thanks for the review.
Response from nata (Reviewer)
Thank you. That is exactly reassurance I needed. I look forward to more then.
Great chapter! And after reading the last review I can't believe I never picked-up on the "who will be headmaster" statement from Hermione ... I was like ... who will be headmaster? LOL I've been reading too many AUs I think. With recollections and reveletions aside, I anticipate exciting times for this story. Loved the last bit with Arthur too; I've always seen him as a sort of adorable character, tip-toeing around Molly to preserve both her sanity and his hide - you maintained that aspect very well.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Thank you for the lovely review! I'm glad the story is managing to maintain your interest :) Molly and Arthur make such a lovely couple, don't they? :) Thanks again for the review.
Another great chapter, with a look at Ginny and Hermione's relationship as well as the burgeoning awareness between Hermione and Ron. Although I gotta admit, when Hermione breathily asks Ron how big his ghoul is, that could be taken in a totally inappropriate way! On the other hand, I've only had about four hours of sleep so my brain's working in a weird way today...The interrogation by the senior members of the Order was a good read, too. Dumbledore's slippery little oath, specifiying her allegiance to the Order under his authority really saved her bacon (and no doubt pissed Minerva off mightily when she realized it--I'll bet a certain portrait's going to have some harsh words spoken to it when she gets back to Hogwarts)!Speaking of Hogwarts, I hope we'll be able to see more of Professor Vector when we get to the chapters dealing with Severus trying to hold the fort there. Surely she'll be able to tell that something's off--maybe Sev won't be entirely on his own there after all. Probably couldn't actually do much, but just knowing that not everyone on the staff hates him might be a small comfort.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Thank you for the review; I'm glad you liked the chapter. I think Ginny gets nowhere near enough attention in the original books--almost every interesting thing that she does happens "off screen". Not that this story going to do much of a better job as regards her character, but, hey, when she's there I want her to have a real personality!! :)Dumbledore's a very sneaky manipulator! Don't you forget it.Professor Vector is going to turn up again in the story, but as you may remember from the end of Phoenix Song, she's a Muggle-born living in England under a false name, and she might have to make a run for it . . . THE PLOT THICKENS! :)Thanks again for the review.
I'm enjoying this story very much. It's so well written. Keep up the great work.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Thank you very much! Your review is much appreciated. :)
Nice wording on the oath, Albus! :)
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
*grins* Way back when I was posting the original story, one of my readers left a review pointing out that the oath was a little slippery and that Albus should have worded it better. I had to reply that I thought Albus knew exactly what he was up to!! :)Thanks for the review.
Really great chapter!!!!!! You manage to have me anticipate the next chapter, depite knowing exactly what happened in DH. You're plot twist are amazing. Good work!
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Thank you very much! I'm absolutely delighted to hear that the chapter managed to be engaging despite covering information/scenes that we already know must have happened somehow. I'm really glad you're enjoying it; thanks for leaving a review.
