Reviews for Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH)
Love this story!!!Really liked the idiot boy/which one bit at the beginning.Have a feeling Hermione is going to have very mixed feeling if/when she finds out that Severus requested her as a boon...Looking forward to the next!
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Thank you very much! I'm glad that you liked it :)And she will find out eventually . . . mark my words. Thanks for the review.
Very cool moves! Though Albus is getting infuriating, isn't he? Great chapter!!!
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Thank you very much! I'm glad that you liked it. Albus has an eye to manipulation, most of the time. ;)Thanks for the review.
I just thought I would leave a quick note to say I very much enjoyed the prequel to this novel and am just as enamoured with this one as well.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Thank you very much! I'm really glad to hear that you enjoyed and continue to enjoy the story. :) Thanks again!
Fascinating to read it from Severus' point of view... its so fun when Severus helps Ron to escape! The portrait Deluminator is also interesting... the concept that objects in paintings can also be used, especially beyond the paintings! (Would that be possible? Well I'll buy it anyway.) Poor Severus he is so tired, maybe Hermione can comfort him? You seem to be setting up something with Severus mentioning Hermione to Voldemort.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Oh, yes, I think we can safely assume that I'm setting up something . . . but *what* exactly?? :) I'm glad you're enjoying the story. Having Severus chase after Ron and save him without Ron knowing seemed almost quintessentially true to his character! Thanks for the lovely review!
Loved how Severus followed dumb-dumb around and made sure he was safe.
Scary little pact he's made with Voldy. Hopefully it will work as he wishes.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
It seemed rather quintessentially Severus to run around after someone he didn't like much saving their life without them even noticing. :) The pact with Voldy is rather terrifying, isn't it??? Thanks for the lovely review.
I've read a few reviews and I too, hope that Severus will not die, he deserved to live in canon...I hated canon & the epilogue...Fanfic is sooooo much better & Hermione was destined to be Severus's...Keep going, I love this with a passion...
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Thank you very much! I'm really glad that you're enjoying the story. Thanks for leaving a review.(No spoilers on whether he's going to live, I'm afraid!!) :)
You are so clever in figuring out a way for him to discover who owns shell cottage! Its like a register of deeds office. Hee
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Why, thank you! I'm glad that you liked it. :) Thanks for the review.
I do hope they can find away to distroy the horcruxes. I hate how they affect their moods. Urg I cannot imagine having to put up the petulent boys and camping. Gag.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
To be honest, I really think that the Horcrux is the only explanation for how dense and thoughtless the entire trio was during this period. Really, they had no excuse for near starvation. Grr. Anyway . . . thanks for the review!
Ha, now Phineas has Severus calling Ron "the idiot boy"! Funny how he's "the idiot boy", Harry's "the insolent boy" but Hermione is simply "the girl". That's rather a backhanded compliment from Phineas right there, you know? The lack of a denigrating adjective from him is the equivalent of gushing praise from almost anyone else! Decoding "Slytherinese" is such fun!
I'm glad that Severus gave Albus a little what-for concerning his habitual close-mouthedness. I know he doesn't want to stoop to arguing with a portrait, but I really do think that taking it down from the wall and jumping up and down on it a few times would make him feel better! Good tension reliever, too.
"Sweet Salazar's Hufflepuff lovechild!" I think I might even like that line better than "Sweet Ganymede's butt crack" from a few chapters ago! It's hard to decide, though.
And finally, I hope that Sev's mention of Hermione to Voldemort doesn't explode in his face. It's a big risk, and it could go either way... still, it might just insure that nothing too terrible happens to her should she be captured; as a matter of fact, it probably is going to be what saves her from having to suffer Greyback's attentions later on at Malfoy Manor.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Well, if Severus would let him, Phineas would call her the "Mudblood"--but that in itself is merely descriptive of her heritage, not necessarily derogatory the way "idiot" and "insolent" are. :)Saying nothing might have been as dangerous as saying something; you never know with Voldemort. We'll just have to wait and see how that pans out . . . Thanks again for yet another fabulous review. :)
Ron's Patronus would be a Jack Russell terrier! All hyper and bouncing and tail wagging...meaning well, but managing to make a mess at the same time. I couldn't help but laugh when I read that! And then her internal monologue about Harry and the Horcruxes: Who does he think he is, Frodo Baggins? Tell me about it! It never made any real sense to me exactly why it was so necessary to wear the blasted thing. It just seemed to be a flimsy excuse to have the three of them get depressed and at odds with each other.Phineas Nigellus is just as wonderfully snarky as I had hoped he'd be, and I hope we'll see more of him as the tale goes on. As put out as he behaves regarding being a "message boy", I'd wager that this is one of the most exciting things to have happened to him since he became a portrait. I'll bet he secretly loves being in the middle of things.I swear, the next time I go on the run, I’m taking a boy who can cook... Too right!
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Actually, Ron's Patronus being a Jack Russell terrier is canon!! But oh-so-appropriate, right? I have a little theory about Hermione's otter, actually, but I'll save that for another chapter ;)I found it rather ridiculous that they wore the Horcrux--and, indeed, rather derivative.I'm glad that you like Phineas; he provides some much needed comic relief in this otherwise rather anxsty tale. Thanks again for the lovely review!!
It's sad to read how Severus has to deliberately "dig his own grave", so to speak, by inciting his co-workers and former friends to anger so that they won't look beyond the surface of him and his activities. Bad enough that they do feel that way, but to see him encourage it and endure their censure just twists the knife even further... Most people wouldn't have the strength to even attempt it. Add to that his work keeping Hermione safe, Jocelyn safe, Draco safe and Harry safe, I'm surprised the poor man hasn't suffered a nervous breakdown yet! And then Dumbledore has the nerve to be upset because Hermione knows about his double role and is still talking to him. Arrgh!I knew this story would be great, reading about things from Sev's perspective during his time as Headmaster, but this is exceeding even my outrageously inflated expectations! Way to go! Now I must read the next chapter (really gotta stop letting these things backpile on me)!
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Thank you very much for the lovely and very generous review. *smiles happily* I'm very glad that I'm surpassing expectations and not failing to meet them!!I wanted to really show how dreadful things must have been for Severus--but also how awful it must have been for his colleagues, particularly those who were his friends. Such a dreadful thing for Dumbles to have asked/ordered him to do.I'm really glad you liked it, and thanks again for the review!!
I think Severus has Hermione's best interests at heart (right??), when he asked the dark lord for her.Damn Albus for keeping things from Severus, his life is tough enough as it is. Hope he survives.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
He does, of course! Though, I'm pretty sure he had Lily's best interests at heart, too, once upon a time, and that didn't necessarily work out well.Albus went to great extents to slow down Harry's progress, and it wouldn't have surprised me to find out he had a way to find them pretty much the entire time. Thanks for the review!!
I love how you clear up little blanks and hole JKR left us.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Thank you! That's what they're there for, I'm convinced of it. Nobody could leave so many holes without intending for someone to come along and write the REAL story of what happend ;) Thanks again for the review.
So he admits he wants Granger to the Dark Lord! Wow, risky. Makes me wonder what Voldemort is thinking. I hope it comes out in Severus' favor. I keep hoping Severus won't die at the end. But then a part of me wants him to so that it stays in canon. (But I really don't).Damn that Albus and his personal motives. He needs to tell people stuff so that life doesn't get so complicated for poor Severus. He already has enough on his plate. Poor chap.I look forward to more! You do a great job retelling the story without retelling us unneeded info about Harry/his mission. It's a whole new side to an already exsisting story and I love it.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Thank you for the lovely review. Severus did take a big risk, but with Voldemort, saying nothing might have been a risk, too.Albus went to great lengths to delay Harry during that last year. I wouldn't have put it past him to hold the Deluminator trick up his sleeve until it was too late. Thanks again for the review!
Neat trick from Albus. Pity he kept it secret so long! :)
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Thank you very much! He's the kind to keep his cards close to his chest, that man. Thanks again for the review.
again, at the risk of repeating myself, you are integrating your and jkr's story seamlessly. wonderful stuff! thanks so much
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
With compliments like that, feel free to repeat them ad nauseum ;)I'm glad that you liked the chapter; thanks for the review.
I really liked Hermione's musings in this one. I was quite amused at Hermione's observation that she was the problem solver, Harry the one who charges along and Ron who was left to find the escape route. It sort of nicely categorises the job of each of the Trio. And also at the end of the chapter, where we get Hermione's thoughts on the locket and her telling herself to shut up. Ron-with-locket was funny too. You've got all their characterisations down pat - the dialogue and actions you write is so true to form and funny as well - really amused at the entire thing about Ron being snippy at Hermione's 'Good morning' and her resisting the urge to roll her eyes.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Thank you very much. :) I'm thrilled that you liked the more reflexive parts of this chapter: I wanted to put the events at the Ministry into a framework of Hermione's thoughts about the situation the trio was in.Thanks again for the review. :)
Looking forward to the next chapter. Dying for more Snape but that's how I felt when I was reading about the camping in DH as well. All that CAMPING. UGH.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
The next chapter will be all about Snape--that's the beauty of the structural alternation between the two main character's POVs: there won't be too much camping all in one go :)Thanks for the review!
Another great chapter!! So, is she going to get a birthday gift???
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Thank you very much! She's certainly not going to get one from the boys! :( Thanks again for the review.
An exciting chapter. I'm glad Hermione noticed the photo. Look forward to the next chapter.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Thank you very much! I'm glad you liked it. Hermione is quite attentive, most of the time ;) Next chapter should be up next week. Thanks for the review.
Well done, as always. :)
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Thank you very much! :)
Oh, pretty exciting at the Ministry. Now we're camping. It's smart of Hermione to run so she can clear her mind. Hopefully her Occlumency will help her not be so affected by the Horcrux.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Yep, now we're camping. *sigh* not the most fascinating part of the story, to be sure. The up side is that the next chapter will be all Snape, so the camping will be broken up somewhat. :)Thanks for the review.
Response from debjunk (Reviewer)
Yay! All Snape!
I'm so happy to read this sequel!I like very much your Snape, the right touch of canon and originality :)Jocelyn is a lovely character, it's good to see her back! She will become a Malfoy, mh? Good! I can see the potentiality of this choice...I know you have to follow DH and to slowly build the Hermione/Severus realtionship, but really, I'm dying to read more about them together!Just one thing: why Ron keeps on calling Hermione "'Mione"? That's a fanon bad habit that irks me to no end...*shrugs*Well, I can't wait for the next chapter: my summer will be brighter with your story to read =)
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Thank you very much! I'm really glad you're enjoying the sequel. :) Jocelyn will become a Malfoy, so we'll have to see where that goes . . . Eventually they will spend some time together, but it is tricky with the DH timeline.I think Hagrid calls her that at one point doesn't he? Or maybe Ron does so with a mouthful of food? It's useful to me to be able to mark a verbal difference of the way in which he's speaking to her: full name versus nickname. In the books, we never see the two of them alone together, so who knows what he might have called her in private? Thanks for the review; I hope you continue to enjoy the story.
I liked how they decided on the ghoul here.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Thank you! In DH, that decision has already been made once Harry gets on the scene, but I wanted to think about what the process actually entailed. :) Thanks for the review.
Brilliant, simply brilliant!
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Thank you! *takes a bow* I'm glad you approve. Thanks for the review.
