Reviews for Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH)
I love how you have portrayed Hooch and how Severus learned to fly was amazing! Especially since he learned the hard way so to speak.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Thank you very much. :) I"m glad you liked the chapter. I think that eventually during the year, someone would have seen through the facade, and Hooch seemed a likely candidate. Thanks again.
so that's how he learned to fly! it seems to me albus was more of a hindrance than a help in all matters. what a superb update. thanks muchly
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Thank you very much for the lovely review. :) Albus must have been a tricky master to work for! Thanks again.
Who would have thought it? Hooch? Maybe now Snape can fly to Hermione hehe.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
*grins* Someone had to see through him; better it was Hooch than one of the Carrows ;)Thanks for the review!
Scary mental vision of Voldemort going 'wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee, look at meeeeeeeeeee, I can flyyyyyyyyyyyyy!' whilst all the Death Eaters look slightly embarrassed. Like watching your Dad dance at a party or something. This was a fab chapter!! Your Hooch is very interesting, so good to have these characters come to life. And your Aussie is showing mate - 'dob them in' indeed!! Sev is obviously a closet Neighbours fan!
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Hilarious mental image of Voldy in flight! LOL I'm really glad that you liked the chapter :) What do the Brits say, then? "Snitch?" or is that a US thing? Thanks for the review!
Response from maggiecate (Reviewer)
'Grass them up' is probably the most common phrase. A grass being a dobber. Or 'drop them in it'. Or 'clipe on them' (although that one might be exclusive to South East Scotland - I've never heard it further afield). Rat them out or snitch occasionally maybe. You get a lot of regional variation! 'Dobber' was one of those things that you had to ask an Aussie about when we first go all your soaps (ahh the glory days of Scott & Charlene!! And OMG how bizarre is it that Jim Robinson is in everything now. Totally killed season 2 of 24 for me!!) That and 'Dag'...
i wanna learn how to fly!!and YAY! for hooch being all insightful and stuff lol
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Thank you very much! I'm glad that you liked the chapter. Someone has to have seen through him ... not even Snape can keep everyone fooled for ever!! :)
What an amazingly gorgeous chapter. This story just gets better and better - I loved the description of Severus' time in the castle and that brief moment of empathy with that Slytherin girl - then Snape being all 'evil' Death Eater mode by disruption Minerva's class - then we get Hooch nochalantly walking into his office telling him that she knows which side he is on! I loved the way you write Hooch - all the details you wrote in from putting her feet on the table to the hand on knee when standing just brought across her character so well. Poor Severus - it must be a relief that someone else in the castle knew and yet the stress about his cover slipping - but it is so fun to torture Severus, no? And the paragraphs about the flight with Voldemort were so beautifully written and exhilarating! I love the fact that Severus is in the Dark Lord's favour - and then you brought it back down to earth again with the humourous thing about needing to brew more anti-venom. I just really, really love this story!
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Thank you very much for such a lovely and generous review! I'm really glad to hear how much you enjoyed the chapter. I do particularly like to write the chapters from Severus' perspective, particularly the ones that focus on Hogwarts. I was fascinated by the idea of what day-to-day life must have been like there from the very start. Thanks again for the review. :)
Yes, Severus, brew tons of antivenom, please! Surprised about Hooch, but nice to know someone knows. I wonder if he'll come to appreciate that eventually.Flying lessons Voldemort-style. Always a thrill!
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Thanks for the review; I'm glad that you liked the chapter. :) Someone must have seen through him eventually, it's not like the whole thing was over in a couple of days, this is most of a year that we're talking about.I always think Voldemort is at his scariest when he's trying to be nice. Thanks again!
I had completely forgotten about Tracey Davis. I am so glad that Hooch is on to Severus. He may think that it is a bad thing, but it must be at least a bit of a relief to know that someone sees him for what he really is. I can't imagine how hard it would be to continue to risk your neck every day for people who all hate you. Brew more antivenom indeed. He just nearly signed his own death certificate... but he knows that doesn't he? Now that he knows how to fly, he has something else to teach Granger... or he could just take her joyriding. Sorry, my review felt incomplete without a request for a meeting of the minds ;) Keep up the great work!
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Thanks for the review, I'm really glad that you liked the chapter. There is a meeting on the horizon, I promise!! :)Someone had to see through the facade eventually, Snape should just be glad that it's Hooch and not one of the Carrows! Thanks again for the review.
Sometimes being in the Dark Lord’s good books is as terrifying as his displeasure. Yes, that would be scary! :)
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
I find the Dark Lord scariest when he's trying to be nice! :) Thanks for the review.
How do I love thee? Let me count the ways... fantastic explanation of how Voldemort discovered Grindelwald's identity, and how Snape learned to fly. Fantastic dry comment about brewing more antivenom- startled my roommates when I snorted with laughter. Keep up the unbelievably good work!
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Thank you for such a lovely review :) I'm glad that you liked the chapter. I always thought it kind of weird that no-one knew who that photo was when GG was such a notorious bad guy. Anyway, thanks again!
Wow, I wonder if Voldemort would have saved him had Severus not figured it out...Yes, he should definately brew more antivenom.I'm curious to know the reasons why he gave the book to Voldemort. What are his motives for making that move? And Hooch knows! Wow. I wasn't expecting her to figure it out. But I like it.I had forgotten about Davis, so I was surprised to see her in this book. I wonder if you'll bring her back in later...time will tell, I guess.Anyway, another smashing chapter. I love this story, things just make so much sense from your perspective. Keep up the great writing. I look forward to more.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Thanks for the lovley review! His choice to show Voldy the book is motivated by the desire to seem invaluable. Once Voldy realises that it was Dumbledore who had the wand (an inevitable realisation since he has the picture already of Grindelwald), then Severus' life hangs in the balance. Best to be on Voldy's good side at that point.Davis will make at least one other appearance . . . :)Thanks again for the review!
Severus made a mental note to brew more antivenom.Oh yeah...Voldemort happy is scarier than Voldemort angry! And one wonders if he's giving Severus this little tidbit of power now because already in the back of his mind he's thinking that Sev will eventually Have To Go. Not necessarily because of the Elder Wand connection yet, but just because that Severus is just too good at what he does and therefore a possible rival in the future.Loved the confrontation between Hooch and Severus, as well. At this point, Minerva's going to be incredibly embarrassed when the truth comes out and she didn't figure it out! Still, would Dumbledore have chastised him? Maybe a little, but not too much I don't think. Sure, if Hooch could figure it out there's the possibility that someone else could as well, but really not very many people are going to take the time to look past the surface of Severus Snape. Glad he's got three ladies on his side now, though! (The three Fates? Ooo, who's going to be Crone? I don't think either Vector or Hooch would be too keen...)
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Thanks for the awesome review. I do agree that Minerva is going to be terribly ashamed of herself. I also think that Voldy's decision to kill Severus is as much about recognition that Severus could be a worthy rival as it is about the Elder Wand directly.I can't really see either Vector or Hooch as "Mother," either, right? But I love the image of them as the fates. :)Thanks again for the review!
So skillfully written! I love all the kind of slow-brewing tension and longing you are able to pack into the relationships, it makes me so excited for the next chapter. This is one of the best integrations of canon I have ever read, you should be proud. :) I read your Phoenix Song and this one up to this chapter essentially in one huge, long, wonderful sitting--with lots of tea, of course! Bravo. :D
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Thank you very much! I'm really thrilled that you've got so much out of the story--to read it in one sitting is a huge compliment. Thanks again!
You are a skilled writer. I love how you wove the SS/HG interactions mostly seamlessly into the original stories. My only complaint is that I wish there had been a bit more interaction between the two. :P Please make this a trilogy!
faboo!!! loved hermione's internal monologue. great stuff. thanks muchly
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Thank you very much! I like to think about the way she thinks ;pThanks again!
A/N : When you leave a review, all my hard work becomes worth it. :)
Oh boy, we are getting to the exciting stuff! Thank you for not boring us with the camping trip that should not of taken up most of the story.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Camping, schmamping. :) Enough, already!! I'm glad you're enjoying it; thanks for the review.
I love Hermione's internal tirade at the Lovegood's house regarding her "limited intelligence". Her take on why she was given the book makes so much sense She is wrong of course, but I'll give her credit for the thought. And now we are one chapter closer to some Snape/Granger interaction *crosses fingers* Don't you feel bad...the poor girl was in tears and you won't let her see him. I guess if you want to make it up to her, you should get the next chapter out quickly!
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Thanks for the lovely review. I think it's particularly important that we see Hermione being wrong--if terribly logical--every now and again. She's only got a limited amount of information to go on, and the poor girl's in an awful situation. The next chapter is now in the queue so you shouldn't have too long to wait. :) Thanks again!
Wow! Hermione's got a lot on her plate. She is sometimes too logical for her own good. She's right and she's wrong. She has to keep Harry focused on the Horcruxes but the Hollows are real. I'll bet she'll feel a little miffed when she finds out she was wrong. How did she know Snape was there? I don't remember him leaving anything there, he just took her hair. Did she assume he left the sword?I've never thought of it before, but you bring up a good point: Why was Voldemort sending the Muggleborns to Azkaban? Why not just kill them? That doesn't make sense...good catch!I love this story! (Have I mentioned that before?) We're getting closer to the end and I hope so much that they get to talk, or see each other before the end. Please don't let him die! Please! (Only if you must.) I look forward to more.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
I just meant for her to have figured that he was the one who left the sword, I didn't mean that she knew he'd actually gone so far as to enter the tent. She is right, and she's wrong--though she's being terribly logical. It's hard with the limited amount of info that she has to hand. Thanks so much for the lovely, lovely review; the next chapter is in the queue.
Good weaving in with canon! :)
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Thank you! :)
Another great chapter! I still love the way you make everything fit YOUR story. I'm already looking forward to the next chapter! Great work!!!
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Thank you very much! The next chapter is in the queue, so shouldn't be too long.
wonderful update! thanks muchly and good luck with your new job
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Thank you very much--on both counts. The job is wonderful, but stressful and time-consuming. :)
Ah, excellent bridge chapter! I wonder how long Draco will stay with Snape and if he'll start fiddling with the TV and phone. ^_^
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Thank you very much! I'm glad you liked it. I always wondered what happened to Draco and SS after they bolted from the Hogwarts grounds. :)
He was so close...oh why didn't he just wake her up. He needs a friend as much as she does. He must know that. But he got some of her hair, that should be interesting.I wonder now where the whole Malfoy saga will go with the paternity test...interesting twist.Who needs a job? Just work on the story while you're supposed to be working. Wink, wink. I would love if you could keep the story coming, even if it's delayed ever so slightly. But money is kind of important in RL so I guess you must make your choice and SS/HG will sacrifice a little (as will I).I love this version of the story so much better than the original HP story (don't tell J.K. Rowling) and I can't wait to see what you come up with next. Thanks for all the fun and I hope you continue even with your new job.P.S. Good luck with RL.
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
If I ever do run into JKR, I'll keep mum about your confession ;)Malfoy as good as confessed that he'd been up to something thirteen years ago . . . we'll have to wait and see where that goes, right?Poor Snape and Hermione, they're both so lonely right now.The next chapter is in the queue, I'm happy to report, and shouldn't be too long now. Thank you for the wonderful review!
what an exciting chapter! thanks sooo much for your faboo update. you rule and reign!
Response from grangerous (Author of Phoenix Tears (or, Hermione Granger and the DH))
Thank you for such a lovely, generous and enthusiastic review. I'm so pleased that you liked it :)
