I am a classically trained singer with three children. I love Star Trek and have watched probably every episode of every series. Favorite HP charaters are Snape and McGonagall. (not as a couple.)

I really wonder who Umbridge's partner is. Judging from his reaction to her comment about punishing all DE with this spell, I'd suspect he is a DE himself. But which one?I wonder what Severus thought when he heard Hermione talking about her feelings.Hopefully Harry's plan with Veritaserum will work.
Response from debjunk (Author of Empty)
You're on the right track about the partner. Harry will definitely learn something from Umbridge. Hopefully, it will be enough, or we might never find out what Severus thought about Hermione's little admission.
Sneaky Harry. Umbridge wouldn't even suspect anything either.I wonder who this mysterious partner of Umbridge's is. I almost think it might be another Death Eater who escaped considering that he seemed less than enthusiastic about her idea of having all the Death Eaters undergo the spell. Guess I'll have to wait to find out.Looking forward to the next chapter. =)

Yup, Umbridge is so full of herself she wouldn't even suspect that someone would try to dupe her. Little does she realize she's being duped already, right? You're definitely on to something with your musings about the identity of Mr. Mystery Slime-ball.
Wow - Harry is better than the Ghostbusters! Can't wiat to see what she spills under Veritaserum - keep up the great work!
Response from debjunk (Author of Empty)
He's a great Auror, and knows his stuff. He was well trained, just like the Ghostbusters. Too bad he can't suck her up into that backpack thingy the Ghostbusters use. That would be a pretty good punishment for the evil witch, don't you think?
I think Harry's plan to dose Umbridge with Veritaserum is an excellent one! She deserves it after all she had done to harm the students at Hogwarts. I'm amazed she has avoided Azkaban for as long as she has. But I do worry what will happen if she remembers being questioned by Harry.Delores' meeting with her evil-wizard-partner in crime seemed to be a session in self-congratulation for the pair of them until she voiced her feelings for Voldemort's followers: "Hopefully, he’ll get his just rewards for being one of those despicable Death Eaters. I wish we could cast this spell on every one of them.” He was clearly unhappy with her pronouncement, but she did not notice. Perhaps she will find herself in similar straits when she is no longer of use to the evil wizard.I hope Hermione and Harry will have a break through in their search for a way to reverse the effects of the spell. I wonder how long it will take them to figure out that Severus can think and understand what is going on around him, he just can't move without being commanded to do so. What if Hermione were to ask Severus a question and command him to lift his right hand to answer "yes", or left to answer "no"? Perhaps they could communicate with him that way.And how will they find Dumbledore? He is under the same spell as Severus and secreted away in the evil wizard's own place. There is so much for Hermione and Harry to discover, and it can't happen fast enough to suit me. I hate seeing Severus like this. This is a great story with everything going for it: love, friendship, heartbreak, angst, intrigue, nefarious wizards and witches, a duped Minister of Magic and Wizengamot, and lots of interesting plot twists. Well done!Beth

Thank you, Beth. That was an awesome review!Harry's got a good plan, and it will hopefully account for everything. What an excellent idea, using questions to get answers from Snape. At this point, though, Hermione and Harry don't think he's in there at all, even though Hermione has a tendency to talk with him anyway.I hate seeing Severus like this too. Hermione and Harry will work diligently to figure out what to do and how to bring Severus back. Unfortunately, it might take a little time.
God, Umbridge totally deserves some torture. Poor Severus.
Response from debjunk (Author of Empty)
She definitely does. What a creep!
I do hope Harry finds something out. That toad grrrrr!!!
Response from debjunk (Author of Empty)
He'll definitely find out something. The toad is a sucker for tea.
Excellent story. I can't wait to see what Harry finds out from Umbridge.
Response from debjunk (Author of Empty)
Hopefully, he'll get the information he needs to shed some light on all of this.

Good that Hermione has Harry's help now. Her frustration is all to understandable, though; it must be horrible to be constantly confronted with such a sight which seems to drain all hope. If Severus will find a way show any kind of reaction?
Author's Response: No matter how he'd like to, Severus is doomed to his fate until Hermione and Harry can figure out what's wrong with him. He can't move of his own free will, nor will he even be able to hint that he's in there. The poor guy is stuck! How incredibly frustrating, for both Hermione and him.
Oh please please please finish this story!! It is excellent!
Response from debjunk (Author of Empty)
Thank you again! I just sent the next chapter off to my beta. It will be up soon.
OH MY GOD. This is one of the most terrifying things I think I've ever read! Poor Severus. Please don't abandon this story. I'm totally sucked into it now.
Response from debjunk (Author of Empty)
Thank you so much! I'm honored that you think so. Fear not, I will not abandon this story. It's actually complete on my hard drive and awaiting editing, betaing, and posting. And I must give credit to the prompt. I, too, think the premise of a hollowed-out Snape is utterly horrifying!
Now, don't leave us hanging for long!! Great chapter!!!
Response from debjunk (Author of Empty)
Thank you! I just sent the next chapter to my beta.
Snape's conviction was totally without merit, and the sentence imposed upon him was far worse than any punishment given to any of the true Death Eaters. The Dementor's Kiss would be more humane than this Inservio. However given that Inservio was his punishment, being awarded to Umbridge's custody would have been even worse. Thank goodness that Hermione came into the antechamber when she did and realized what Umbridge was up to.I would love to know the identity of the Poly Juiced wizard who devised this accursed spell, but we have never seen him described when he was not in disguise... I've thought of a few Death Eaters who may fit the character of ruthlessness of the wizard, but I just don't know. When you described the fear Severus felt when he was being carried into the antechamber to meet his fate, I could only imagine how utterly horrid it would have been. Please, please, please allow Hermione to find a way to reverse the spell. Someone needs to stop Umbridge and the brains behind this injustice.Great writing, BTW!Beth
Response from debjunk (Author of Empty)
Thanks, Beth. In some ways, this really is worse than the Dementor's Kiss. And being given to Umbridge would have been worse yet! Hermione won't stop until she figures out how to help Severus. Eventually, everything will come out.
Man, this is sooo evil. I don't think even an inquisitive know-it-all can prevail and bring him back. Angst overload.
Response from debjunk (Author of Empty)
*Gives pats on back.* I know! It's horrible, isn't it? Hermione is a determined young woman. She won't give up easily. Hopefully, she can figure out what's going on here.
I am getting really creepy thoughts about the unnamed man on the cot. ::shudders:: Yes, I agree with Hermione that Snape let himself get caught because he feels he needs to be punished. If Dumb & her mystery ally get to him, then all is lost since AD is already 'compromised.'
Response from debjunk (Author of Empty)
Without Severus' knowlege, no one would know about Dumbledore. Of course, no one knows that Snape has confided in Hermione.
Whatever that spell is (the one mentioned by DUmb's mystery contact), seems like death would be a more merciful fate. *ugh* I hope that Hermione and Harry can do something before Shackleboat decides. . . .
Response from debjunk (Author of Empty)
I think death might be a relief when faced with this possible fate. How horrifying it would be to have this done to you.
Promising start even though it looks like the initial ride will be rough. The $100K Question: Where is Dumbledore??
Response from debjunk (Author of Empty)
This story is definitely a rough ride. We will eventually figure out where Dumbledore is.
that was devestating. i despiritly hope you give umbitch her just rewards and i look forward to every delicious detail. thanks so much for this powerful update.
Response from debjunk (Author of Empty)
Thanks, kimjo! It was hard to see this happen, even for me. Umbridge really deserves the worst possible fate.
Putting someone in a form of vigil coma ... now that's truly evil.Poor Snape.I'm glad Hermione got custody of him and I hope that somehow they will find a way to communicate and reverse / end that spell (Finite Incantatem? - but Hermione wasn't there when the spell was cast so she wouldn't know by what means his state was induced).
Response from debjunk (Author of Empty)
It will take a little while to figure out what to do. But we can take comfort in the fact that she has Severus and not Umbridge. I'm sure that ugly wench had lots of horrible things planned for him.
I think Hermione will do everything in her power to change this spell. I mean there has to be a counter curse. Right?Oh please let them find Dumbledore to make right what went terribly wrong. And then let Umbridge get hers.
Response from debjunk (Author of Empty)
I believe there's a counter curse or spell for most things. This spell is no different. The hard part will be to figure out what said countercurse is.
So how long will the enchantment Delores put on Kingley and the others last?
Response from debjunk (Author of Empty)
The actual potion is short lasting, but the mind alterations are permanent and become the actual 'thoughts and desires' of the people who are the victims of the potion. In other words, they will think it was their idea to sentence Snape to his fate. Umbridge will have no further influence on their minds unless she administers more of the potion.
OHHH!! So glad H got him - who can she call in to help get him back?
Response from debjunk (Author of Empty)
Who can she call? Ghostbusters! Um... I mean Harry.
Response from mom7knox (Reviewer)
Just wanted you to know that was exactly what I was thinking after I read it back - but I thought - "Naw, no body remembers that anymore!" Thanks for the chuckle every time I think of your response!
It's a spell. Try Finite Incantatem? :)
Response from debjunk (Author of Empty)
That will be one of the first things tried, but it won't be Hermione's great mind that comes up with it.
The poor guy!!! I really hope Hermione finds him in there soon! Great chapter!!!
Response from debjunk (Author of Empty)
Right now, she doesn't even know he's in there. What a horrible thing to deal with!
ugh - this is so horrible. i am so glad hermione got "custody" of him. umbridge is an effing bitch! i am looking forward to the next chapter.
Response from debjunk (Author of Empty)
It is horrible. It all seems rather hopeless right now. At least, as you said, Hermione got him. I can't even imagine what Umbridge would have done! Well, I probably can, but I don't want to go there.
Hermione make him right! Then kill Umbridge!Look forward to the next chapter.
Response from debjunk (Author of Empty)
Sounds like a great plan!
