Hermione Granger returns to Hogwarts for a year of postwar schooling. When, supposedly, all is well for the Know-It-All, events from the past emerge and drama ensues. And where is Severus Snape in all of this? Right smack in the middle, of course! Amidst the turmoil of early adulthood and unrequited feelings, will Severus and Hermione learn to "seize the day"?
AU after HBP, some facts from DH. Mild student-teacher romance. Rated M for later dream sequences, etc. Features some non-explicit HG/DM.
PLEASE read Author's Notes for disclaimers and necessary warnings throughout story.

Reviews for Carpe Diem, Part One
Thanks for the begining of what looks like a great fic. While the moment when they get together is always great to read, I tend to like the 'slow burn' of a gradual build up and how they reconcile a rather socially difficult situation with their emerging feelings. This is especially so in the scenarios when she is a student: Albeit that Hermione is a seventh-year war heroine. I also like your idea that even though she is a student she is older and has a bit of life experience (even though it is of a few weeks), it tends to balance the age/power differential. The start grabbed me too - Hermione throwing caution to the wind almost unbalanced me as much as it did Snape. I had to laugh at your description of Snape loosening up - undoing two buttons (He He!). He'll have to be positively unhinged to take of the frockcoat!Hermione late and disorganised and Snape undoing his buttons - great little start and looking forward to more.Cheers.

THANKS! :) I'm glad you liked it, and I hope you like the next two chapts, which are now pending... *crosses fingers that she wont have to edit them again* I've decided everyone's gonna go crazy in this fic. They both need to loosen up ;PLook out for chapter 9ish... Sevvie TAKESOFFHISFROCKCOAT!!!!Thanks again for the review, CC
Response from reets67 (Reviewer)
OMG! NOT THE FROCK COAT! *Fan myself and swoon* (He He!)
I liked it very much, please keep posting (at your own pace, of course). I'd offer you my services as a beta, but I honestly don't think that you need one! Out of pure curiosity, are you American or British?
Response from ConstantComment (Author of Carpe Diem, Part One)
Yeah, I'm American. If it's obvious, let me know!!! I'm not too up to date with the colloquialisms--which shouldn't be too much of a problem. The story takes place around oh, I dunno... TEN years ago! ;) Thanks for the review! -CC
i can deal with a long lead-in. i would love to see hermione comming into her own and snape watching the whole thing. this starts off good and i look forward to more updates. thanks so much
Well, this sounds like a great tale! Hermione, late for the Arrival FEast, half dressed in her robes...Not like her at all.Kudos to her for taking time to do somethiung for herself to forget the battle of Hogwarts. It sounds like she learned a bit more thatn at Hogwarts.I look forward to readingmore of this story, Thanks for writing a tale where Hermione is more than just a Miss Know it all.
Response from ConstantComment (Author of Carpe Diem, Part One)
You're welcome! I'm so glad you liked it. Look out for the next two chapters, [hopefully] being posted soon! Thanks for the review. :D -CC
I am a little confused. Did Snape pick up on what Hermione was thinking? Intriguing start!
Response from ConstantComment (Author of Carpe Diem, Part One)
Why yes, he did! *evil Snape chuckle* I feel like he'd do this a lot--cos, for the untrained Occlumens, his presence in their minds would go unnoticed. Yes, our Sev is a sneaky bastard. XD Thanks for the review! -CC
An interesting beginning, and I'm always curious about post-DH seventh year fics, the changes in the circumstances and the dynamics and all that. I'm looking forward to more!
Response from ConstantComment (Author of Carpe Diem, Part One)
Thank you!!! I'm glad you liked it. Unfortunately, I go to a school that blocks PP, so updates will be slow. I know, sad, right? :( Thanks for the review!! -CC (PS- i like your pen name)
very interesting beginning! Keep up the great internal dialoges - great job!
Response from ConstantComment (Author of Carpe Diem, Part One)
Thanks so much! I'm glad you like it. There's plenty of italics and descriptions in the coming chapters. ;) Happy December! -CC
A very good beginning! I have added it to my favorites list so I'll know when you update.Severus is making very tiny changes in his life as witnessed by his leaving the top two buttons of his shirt to remain unbuttoned. A more relaxed Snape? Good! He deserves it.And our Miss Granger has decided to make some changes in her life as well... she will not be returning to the previous relationship she had with Ronald Weasley. A sound decision on her part.Now... the only question I have at present is what will transpire during her detention with her Potions Master?Well done! Beth
Response from ConstantComment (Author of Carpe Diem, Part One)
Yay! I love when people leave longish reviews! I'm glad you like it. :) Yes, it's a gradual transformation for our Sev, but Hermione's changes might be a bit more drastic. Happy December! -CC
Good for Hermione, cutting Ron loose. I think Hermione could do with a little more acting on her own choices for a change. She spent too much time pre-end of the dark lord, rightly so, doing what she was expected to do. Enjoying it so far, eagerly awaiting the next chapter.
Response from ConstantComment (Author of Carpe Diem, Part One)
Indeed. Despite how much I love Ron, I feel like their decision to get married in the books was because it was convenient. LOL. I'm a lot like Hermione (well, I'd like to think) and if I dated a guy like Ron, I'd probably shoot myself. ;) Thanks for the review! -CC

Interesting beginning! I like the way you describe the characters and their actions very much and am eager for more.
Author's Response: Thanks! Yeah, I'm very much into descriptions... and sometimes I get a bit carried away with myself, but... I'm glad you like them! I always like to know what the author thinks the surrounding looks like, and I can imagine more vividly! Next chapter should be up within the week, I hope :/ Happy December! -CC
Excellent start. Looking forward what happens next.
Response from ConstantComment (Author of Carpe Diem, Part One)
Thank you! I'm glad you liked the first chapter, and next one should be coming soon! It's a little slow on my end, b.c my school currently blocks this site (oh, so sad), but I try to answer reviews and update as much as possible! Happy December! -CC
I really like how this has started. Not a conventional student/teacher romance? Bonus! I look forward to the next chapter.
Response from ConstantComment (Author of Carpe Diem, Part One)
Well, I'd like to think it won't be conventional, but that's up to you! :) I'm glad you liked the first chapter! -CC
I am already loving it! I am glad they don't act on their feelings right away, I always felt that the natural progression of their relationship would take much longer given their personalities in context.
Response from ConstantComment (Author of Carpe Diem, Part One)
Agreed. This will actually be a two part story, in which they only get together in the second, but there's plenty of verbal sparring to keep us happy, I should think... ;P Thanks for the review! -CC
Nice first chapter...I can't wait to read more! Live long and prosper,

Great start. Looking forward to what comes next. :)
Author's Response: Hey thanks! Glad you liked it! -CC
I loved your descriptions of each of them. Lol, she smiles at him, he gives her detention. Typical! Can't wait to see how that evening goes.
Response from ConstantComment (Author of Carpe Diem, Part One)
Thank you! :D I really get into my descriptions... it can be a problem. LoL. I'm glad you enjoyed them! Happy [Almost] Holidays! -CC
Okay - I'll give you what you want - I'll tell you that I love this story already. So now go on and update it, my dear!!If I could give it 10 stars I would but alas -*****
Response from ConstantComment (Author of Carpe Diem, Part One)
Aw, thank you!! That actually means a lot to me. I know, that's when you know you have a life -- when your happiness depends on a good review! ;) Thanks for the stars! -CC
good start! Looking forward to more!
Great Start....
As you say they will not be acting upon their feelings- where does the lemons and what not come from? I wished they would act upon those feelings. But i highly look forward to the detention anyway. x
Response from ConstantComment (Author of Carpe Diem, Part One)
Haha! There's a second part to the story which takes place at Sev's cottage in Provence, where they end up gettin' it on quite a lot ;D It's a bit more gradual for them in this first part (around 20 chaps, right now). Thanks for the review! -CC
Response from Nessa (Reviewer)
Sounds Great hehe Can't wait for the second part. But I think i'm going to enjoy the 20 chaps of them noticing each other. x
I find it highly ironic that the title is Carpe Diem (Seize the day) when you explicitly state in the A/N that they will not act on their feelings in this fic xDBe that as it may, I enjoy the start of what promises to be a lovely story :)
Response from ConstantComment (Author of Carpe Diem, Part One)
Heh. That was the point. ^.^ I'm glad you liked it otherwise! -CC
oh, wonderfull!
severus blubbering - priceless!
love your portrayal of ron
draco's possesivenes spells trouble - he is a very likeable character in your fic (while staying draco, yay) but boy, does he have issues
good luck in college - may your studies be sadisfying, and leave you lot's of time for writing ;)
poor severus. he's got some rough times ahead. superb update. thanks so much
Response from ConstantComment (Author of Carpe Diem, Part One)
even so, i think you'll enjoy next chapter! there's sure to be some ss/hg interaction! O.O Thanks for the review!
You know, CC, if I can't have my SS/HG, then a DM/HG is the next best thing. They seems perfect for eachother, and it has Severus nauseous/jealous/bitter. So much the better for the angst factor. Great chapter.
Response from ConstantComment (Author of Carpe Diem, Part One)
Why, thank you! That is a very nice way to look at it, considering the random DM/HG that wanted to pop up in this fic.... Hmm... :) THanks for the review! - CC
