Hermione Granger returns to Hogwarts for a year of postwar schooling. When, supposedly, all is well for the Know-It-All, events from the past emerge and drama ensues. And where is Severus Snape in all of this? Right smack in the middle, of course! Amidst the turmoil of early adulthood and unrequited feelings, will Severus and Hermione learn to "seize the day"?
AU after HBP, some facts from DH. Mild student-teacher romance. Rated M for later dream sequences, etc. Features some non-explicit HG/DM.

Reviews for Carpe Diem, Part One
this is grand! thanks for your hard work - enjoying the mutual abhorrence with revealed feelings - love that tension!! Can't wait to see when they do get this right!!
Response from ConstantComment (Author of Carpe Diem, Part One)
Yesh, Sev sure is piling on the self-hate. XD He'll get over it... eventually. Thanks for reading!-CC
I wonder if Severus will take his advice.
I look forward to the detention.
This is a very promising beginnig and I will gladly follow your story.

I'm so glad you like it! Hope it continues to satisfy. :)-CC
Another great chapter. Portrait!Albus seems to be rather kinder to Severus than real!Albus was at times. I hope Severus listens to the advice he got. Hermione can't go on like this much longer!
Response from ConstantComment (Author of Carpe Diem, Part One)
I think Portrait!Albus might be channelling some of his post-mortem self--I think now he has the time and inclination to help Sev out instead of using him. Although, Albus is still using him to make sure that his former student will be okay. Thanks for reading!-CC
Well, he values Albus' opinions, obviously, or he wouldn't have stormed the castle. Will he take the former Headmaster's advice? I certainly hope so.
Poor Sev. He is all at sixes and sevens! :)

Well, that took a bit of wiki-ing to confirm what you said was what i though you'd said. If that makes any sense. ;) Us Americans don't use the phrase "at sixes and sevens", but I like it! :) Thanks for reviewing! -CC

I did wonder that after I had submitted it! :)

Ohh! I looove review hugs!! *HUGS!!* XD Thanks for reading (and bothering to say you did)! ;P-CC
I can't wait to see how he reacts to his present. Maybe he will go and thank her personally?
Look forward to more.
A fun shopping trip! I'd love to go shopping and lunch with Severus Snape myself! The titles of the books that Hermine is buying for her friends are a hoot. I especially liked "The Audible Agenda, For Those with Migratory Mindfulness." And I'd bet my last Knut that Professor McGonagall's book will win the prize for most colorful. The gift she bought for Severus will be very much appreciated. In fact, I bet he will be blown away!Wonderful chapter, CC! Beth

I was imagining a book with orange satin and maroon lace around the edges... and maybe green polka dots. Yes, that sounds about right. For McGonagall, that is. -CC
That seemed like quite the enjoyable shopping trip, I kind of wish I could go shopping with Snape.
Absolutely wonderful, can't wait for part two!!!!
You really got the characters down pretty well, love your portrayal of Draco.
absolutely loved it, tho i was hoping to see sevie at harrods! am thoroughly enjoying this delightful story. thanks so much
The first part of this chapter reminds me of Marlowe's Doctor Faustus. You know you've read WAY too much in one day when you're comparing "And your wand?" to asking the devil why he wasn't in hell.
I like this story alot. A slow building romance, eh? With a happy ending, right?
Response from ConstantComment (Author of Carpe Diem, Part One)
But, of course!!! In case you haven't read my notes: Carpe Diem is definitely a slow building romance, but mostly on Sev's part. Hermione goes through a lot her final year, which points her in a different direction than into the arms of our hero. HOWEVER (BIG however), there is a second part to this story that occurs four years later, in which our two protagonists meet again and spend a year together... alone. In which lots of lemons will occur. XDCarpe Diem does not end blissfully, but Severus accepts his feelings. Hermione has some growing up to do, so she'll go off to do that and then come back a much stronger, healthier person. :) Glad you like my story!-CC
Just lovely. I'm glad she found something so suitable-looking for Severus - he most certainly deserves to get something nice, too! Especially with the way he's been putting up with her. ;-)
AHHH she got his a christmas present! Lovely!
Awww, that was cute! Severus can so oddly endearing without even trying. I especially loved Hermione's gift for McGonagall ... I can just imagine the transfigured terrors that will welcome the Minister and his staff the next time they dare to darken the Headmistress' door. Hee.
Love how this is going along, piece by piece. Can't wait to see how he likes his present.
The book for Minerva should be inspiring! :)
Yay! A shopping trip to London for Hermione and Severus!
I'm glad that he has noticed how wan she is becoming, and has asked her about it. Even though she denied it, she knows that he knows, and perhaps she will pay a little more attention to her health. But probably not.. It's so hard to make yourself look forward to the daily routine when your spirits are as low as Hermioine's are.
C'mon, Severus, “Cheer her up.” Looking forward to your next update!
Beth
thanks so much for the latest! love the interplay -
'stand with hands on hips and huffs mightily'Two years! Don't think for one minute, young lady, that your readers are going to stand for waiting that long! This is far too good a story to just leave it--'waggles finger, index finger, that is'--hanging, or for Severus to remain in such agony.Joking aside, I have adored this story. You've really got Severus' personality down well. Some of the post=DH stories portray him as suddenly sappy, but your take on what he'd be like then is superb. And, of course, you've got the other characters nailed, too. It's very interesting seeing Ron Wesley, of all people, approach him afterward to kind of, sort of offer consoling, and it's a great idea having the two brothers offering Snape a part of their successful company. Ron's insistent and somewhat insolent visit was very unexpected--a masterful stroke. So please don't leave us hanging for long. I'm very hopeful that maybe in a few months you'll be ready to tackle Carpe Diem, Part II. The waiting may drive me to drink!
Response from ConstantComment (Author of Carpe Diem, Part One)
Well, Part Two has begun! In case you were still wagging your finger at me. ^___^ Look for it on my author's page!
