The war and subsequent clean-up has ended, and the wizarding world is beginning to come out of its shell. Having had enough of Hermione and Severus's bookworm, introverted ways, Molly and Minerva give well-intentioned Christmas gifts aiming to push our heroes out of their comfort zones and into the arms of a well-read, like-minded witch or wizard. Will our heroes ally to survive with their wits intact? Will they overcome their personal demons? Will they find love within the pages of the detested novel?

This story has all the earmarks of being one of the more entertaining stories I have read. Rarely have I read a fanfic which has made me laugh out loud even once, this one had me giggling several times. I can't wait to read more!!

I'm so glad that I could make you laugh so much! I had a lot of fun writing it. I hope the rest of the story makes you giggle too! Thanks so much for reviewing!

I love the way you write, the way your words flow. It's just delightful, really. And your plot idea is great. I'll definitely be reading more so I can find out what happens at these meetings. Oh, and I loved how it started off with Severus, and then with Hermione, both sufficiently pissed-off about the book club. I liked how they joined together to be a bit rebellious, snickering and laughing at the meeting. Great.

Thank you so very much!!!!I'm glad you enjoyed it, and I hope you enjoy the rest. I'm diligently at work on chapter 10...
I just have to say that I'm inexplicably pleased to have found this delightful story. It's highly amusing, deliciously smutty, and definitely well-written.Can't wait to see more! :)

Thank you so much! I'm pleased that I could amuse and entertain you! Thanks for the review! :)
I believe I cannot speak at the moment besides an OMG!!!! Good thing this story isn't 'read aloud' or I'd have to explain some things to my husband. heehee
Response from pyjamapants (Author of The Witches of Gilford)
:DThank you very much for your review.
Love this chapter! More was accomplished here than some "stellar" shagging ... some real emotional breakthroughs happened as well. Lovely! This line had me snorting along with Hermione: "Yes, I can see historically you've excelled at accepting what happened and moving on."*snickers*
Response from pyjamapants (Author of The Witches of Gilford)
Thank you! I'm so glad you enjoyed it.I was quite fond of that line, too. So much easier to give advice than to follow it, isn't it?
If only they'd progressed to the point where a gag was a suitable suggestion. Poor Severus battling against his inner romantic to blurt out Grand Statements of Love. I am glad the final hurdle has been leaped. I think they will be very good together.
Response from pyjamapants (Author of The Witches of Gilford)
It's quite a battle to be waged, isn't it? I wonder if/when/how those Grand Statements of Love will escape. Thanks for reviewing. :)

Eating Fish and Chips together in Hermione's flat - that's sweet, and so well done! :o)
Severus opening up in general is deligthful to read, and that he's doing so in particular about the war experience part in front of Minerva, or rather getting angry about not having ad the opportunity so far - about time, I'd say, and superbly written!
Author's Response: Thank you so very much. I owe quite of bit of the fish and chips scene to the wonderful descriptions that Persevero, my Britpicker, sent my direction. She's a gem.
Thanks for reviewing. I'm tickled that you found it superbly written. :)

So Hermione is a consultant... ingriguing idea. That this gives Severus some ideas about escaping his unkliked job situation is all the better.
Author's Response: I've read many stories where Hermione pursues multiple fields of specialization, and it's always struck me as very fitting for her character. Consultant seems like an excellent career for someone so diverse.
Thanks for reviewing!

Your post-war Severus is drawn very nicely, and very fitting into the book persona, I think. Lovely to see how this club thing is going on and how much Hermione and Severus like it.
Author's Response: Thank you so much. I hope you continued to find him drawn nicely in following chapters. I've been fairly nervous over the course of the story that he'd strayed from his usual snarky self.

WHAT an idea! *falls literally form her chair with laugther* Just the great setting for these two.
I'm not familiar with the mentioned books, having another cultural background, but can easily imagine what you're talking about. After all, these kind of things (I won't give them the honour to call them "books") exist in every language, I supppose.
Author's Response: *chuckle*
I'm tickled that you find the premise so amusing.
Yes, I suppose these kinds of things are universal. *shudder*
Thanks so very much for your review.

That was a great chapter! I particularly like the way you let the music and the story parts interact. I'm mostly listening to music while reading or writing, and found it very fitting.
Author's Response: I'm glad you enjoyed the interaction between the story and the music. The pieces were too gorgeous and fitting not to share.

Great chapter! I'm happy they finally got around to fulfil their sensual wishes at last and are not keeping up the brainy approach, even though it's all too understandable...
The way Severus handled her "Ron problem" was really well done, I think.
Author's Response: You are an absolute gem for leaving me such lovely reviews after each chapter, even though you read them in one fell swoop. I always have a harder time leaving a review when I'm scurrying off to find out what happens next, and it means the world to me that you paused at the end of each chapter to review.
I'm glad you thought Severus's reaction to Hermione was well done. It's been a battle to have these two working through their issues and coping with such difficult emotions while keeping their behaviour angsty without being childish. Severus is learning to be more open, but he's still certainly prone to fits of jealousy and anger.
Thanks again for your lovely reviews.
That was bloody brilliant....*sigh*
Response from pyjamapants (Author of The Witches of Gilford)
Why, thank you. I'm glad you found it satisfying.:)Thanks so much for reviewing!
one of the five universal gestures that signalled for a change in positions! What the hell are those? Let me in on info becuase I am tired of getting tangled and yanked when my husband and I try to switch around!Livvy
Response from pyjamapants (Author of The Witches of Gilford)
Well, I'm afraid they're all rather mundane now that I'm writing them out. 1. Patting the appropriate spot on the bed2. Nudging the body parts that need relocating3. A little hand signal for 'flip over'4. The gentle shoving of the person on top5. Um, I'm certain this one involves a wand movement or two.:)
yea lemons and bloody good ones at that. I want a Sev of my own please!!Loving this story, its great fun, with some hearttorn emotion too. Can't wait for more.

Thank you! I'm tickled that you find the story both amusing and satisfyingly emotional. Thanks so much for reviewing!
THIS is what I'd like to have at lunchtime every other day (every other because one needs real food from time to time )I will repeat here something: this fic is so well done and polished that I just can't believe you are not a longstanding author. There's so much to like in this chapter! Firstly, you kindly skipped the two months wait - and related application of Crotchlumency (thank you - it might have been interesting and probably humourous to read, but I decidedly prefer it this way!)Then, of course, the balance you have achieved among lightness, humour, lemons and insightfulness.Hermione's realization of what her relationship with Severus involved is very believable, more so because I hadn't seen it coming, yet it is so right. The timing is also great: the angst lasts long enough to make us feel with both of them, but not so long as to change the pace of the story. And the little details add to the feel of reality.Severus' reactions throughout the chapter show the depth of his engagement, that we had already seen developing in previous chapters. His taking mild Veritaserum to overcome old habits and be more open with her, his ready acceptance of her scheming and promptly adding those delightful Notice Me Not charms (clever man, and clever author! All those people with noses in their appalling books, Hermione included when appropriate, were hilarious :D) and the way you conveyed his dismay and, again, his quick grasp of the situation, realization and acceptance of her as a woman, with a story and a complexity of feelings just like - as you hinted - she had accepted him. Lovely indeed, and very, very well balanced (uhm, maybe I should find a different word, what do you think?)Great work, brava!Lela

I have let this review linger and simmer in my 'unanswered reviews' bucket for far to long. But it makes me smile and glow with pride everytime I read it. (Not that I won't be able to find it later, but it certainly won't be so prominent).I'm tickled that you find the story so balanced. I'd be lying if I denied it being a battle along the way. When to let their issues surface? When to discuss their feelings? How to handle Severus's issues without him completely reverting to a 15-year-old boy - though in some respects he still may be? Thanks so much for including the highlights that you found enjoyable. I was quite pleased with how Hermione's reaction turned out, but I was really concerned that it would seem unlikely that she hadn't considered it earlier. I do think it rather Gryffindorish of her to charge full-steam ahead without quite considering the aftermath.Again, thanks so much for the lovely review. I blush every time I read the line about being a first time author. I only hope I can continue to deliver and improve.
Finally! What a wonderful chapter....and I have no idea what could be next
Response from pyjamapants (Author of The Witches of Gilford)
I'm glad you enjoyed it!Thanks so much for reviewing!
Finally! And it was perfect.... and wonderful. I loved Hermione's dilemma about Severus being better than Ron, lol... we could have told her that, right? I adore this... looking forward to the next installment!
Response from pyjamapants (Author of The Witches of Gilford)
Thank you so very much. I envisioned that seduction scene a long, long time ago, and it was awesome to have it finally see the light of day. Thanks so much for reviewing!
Wonderful! I just adored this chapter, not only because of the lemons (though I admit that I most certainly adored them...) but also because Hermione made it clear to Severus that he didn't come seccond to Ron, that there were no contest.Yup, absolutely adored it!
Response from pyjamapants (Author of The Witches of Gilford)
*blushes*I'm so very glad you enjoyed it. It was a pleasure to write and deliver. Thanks so much for reviewing!
That's quite a few steps forward they've taken in this chapter! Excellent work. My favourite part of this was Hermione's realisations about Ron and Severus; her emotions were so wonderfully realistic, as was the sense of guilt.
Response from pyjamapants (Author of The Witches of Gilford)
Thank you so very much. I'm so glad you enjoyed the realisations about Ron and Severus. It wasn't part of my original outline, but it really spoke to me while I was writing. It seemed natural that things be a little bittersweet for her. Thanks again. *hugs*
To tell the truth, I'm looking forward to their morning after (even if you don't plan to write it explicitly). The domesticity of the scene will be moving. I'm glad they are so content in their relationship.
Response from pyjamapants (Author of The Witches of Gilford)
You, my dear, should greatly enjoy the next chapter. You will get to see their morning after, and I daresay the book club meeting will be the most entertaining yet.
Oh, I loved this! I love this whole story, but this chapter just made my night a lot better.Thank you.
Response from pyjamapants (Author of The Witches of Gilford)
Thanks so very much. I'm glad my story can entertain. Thanks for reviewing.
that was great. i can't wait to read the next one!
Response from pyjamapants (Author of The Witches of Gilford)
I'm glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for reviewing!
Thanks for another chapter! I'm so glad it wasn't all serious, I loveyour sense of humor. And I'm glad that you put in how she went to pieces and feels guilty for loving SS. I have never been widowed but it seems very realistic to me, nonetheless.
Response from pyjamapants (Author of The Witches of Gilford)
Thank you so very much. I'm glad my sense of humor can entertain. I'm happy you liked the emotional aspects. They were a trick to write. Thanks, as always, for diligently reviewing!
I just love how during a most emotional moment, when Hermione is lamenting that she is glad that it is Severus with her and not Ron, you interupt with a funny moment "Oh, disgusting. Did she just snort against his robes?"
That was so funny. I hate too much melodrama and am lifted by this kind of wit!. Thanks for the story and the steamy romantic parts! I guess there's no more need for 'Crochlimency'.
Response from pyjamapants (Author of The Witches of Gilford)
Thank you so very much.I'm afraid it's impossible to keep some of my own personality (and relationship with my spouse) from bubbling through in this first story. I frequently find humor in the oddest of places. In my book, there's nothing more deeply satisfying than being able to laugh amidst stress or grief. No more Crotchlumency here. The libidos have been unleashed!
