The war and subsequent clean-up has ended, and the wizarding world is beginning to come out of its shell. Having had enough of Hermione and Severus's bookworm, introverted ways, Molly and Minerva give well-intentioned Christmas gifts aiming to push our heroes out of their comfort zones and into the arms of a well-read, like-minded witch or wizard. Will our heroes ally to survive with their wits intact? Will they overcome their personal demons? Will they find love within the pages of the detested novel?

*applauds* This is magnificent! I love the way you show the problems inherant in Ron and Hermione's marriage and that they worked together to overcome them. The way you are revealing the growing feelings between Severus and Hermione in light of Hermione's working through Ron's death is delightfully insightful and well-considered. The pacing is perfect, and the end of this chapter is exactly what it ought to be.

Why, thank you! When I was first envisioning this story, I decided to take particular care with Hermione and Ron's marriage. I do love a good Ron-bashing story myself (he really is a horrible match for her), but I like to think that we would have matured just a bit from the books.

Oh this is so sweet! I was sorry to read that Hermione's friendship with Harry has suffered. And the death-day gathering was dreadful, even though we did not see it first hand. But the gentle slide into friendship expereinced by Hermione and Severus is delightful. and, as always, your humor is delicious! Why did it feel like someone had scrubbed out her brain and replaced it with very loud, very pointy candy floss?wonderful!

This emotional chapter is so full of hope and reconciliation that I have great hope myself for Severus' and Hermione's growing friendship. They're even spending the night together... not in the sense of having sex together... but hey, they've got tomorrow morning to play with, euphemistically speaking. Yes, I think tomorrow morning could be a very interesting time.Regardless of what happens when they wake up together, cuddled up under the same blanket, it's still a very good beginning for something.Fabulous Chapter, PJP! I'm so hooked! Beth

Thanks so much! Relationship pacing can be such a tricky thing... especially when we all want them to hurry up and cross the finish line. ;) I'm glad you like the pace I've set.

That was sad and beautiful and hopeful. I hope Hermione can find a way back to her friendship with Harry.
Response from pyjamapants (Author of The Witches of Gilford)
Oh, they've maintained their friendship.... they've just turned it into an artificially long distance one. But hopefully, they'll manage to set it to rights.

Oh, goody! They are sleeping together! Okay, so they are only sleeping together in the literal sense. I'll take what I can get. After such an emotional turmoil of a week for both of them, this is quite probably for the best. They've managed a good bit of healing on their own. I wonder how much more they could manage together. Thank you for a lovely and touching chapter.

I really like how they've opened up to each other and that their shared experiences are strengthening their relationship. Funny what membership in a book club can do for a couple of people!

I just realized I hadn't left a review for this chapter, and that's terribly remiss of me. Despite the comedic overall nature of this story, I found the confrontation between Severus and Minerva to be extremely powerful and moving. I look forward to future installments.
Author's Response: Thank you so much for returning to leave a review. I'm glad you were moved by the confrontation. It was challenging to write.
I was loking for a nice uplifting read, with a bit of humour, some decent characterisation and a happy ending, and this filled the bill delightfully.I thought theat crotchlumency was an especially nice touch.
Response from pyjamapants (Author of The Witches of Gilford)
Thank you so very much! I'm still rather proud of crotchlumency myself. It comes up an awful lot in fan fic. Makes me wonder if erections are really so easily scared by thoughts of Filch in suspenders. Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for your reviews!
This story had me laughing til tears streamed down my face at times.Well done. I'm glad I found it.
Response from pyjamapants (Author of The Witches of Gilford)
Wow! If it made you laugh that hard, then I'm really glad you found it too! Thanks for the lovely review!
This is a HOOT! I cannot imagine a more distasteful scenario for Severus Snape than to find himself trapped via a Charm in a book club "in the midst of a sea of pink, lilac, and sweaters with kittens." And Hermione doesn't appear to be all that thrilled either. Just what were Molly and Minerva thinking? I THINK they are thinking to maneuver Severus and Hermione into standing shoulder-to-shoulder against the assault of the dowdy old housewitches! For mutual self-preservation, of course. What will happen to our hero and heroine since they just walked out of the meeting? After all, they've already been charmed...I'm hooked! Beth
Response from pyjamapants (Author of The Witches of Gilford)
Time will tell as to whether or not Minerva and Molly were plotting together. I'd hate to be on the receiving end of Severus's wand if he finds out they are. ;)Thanks for the review!

Ick! I'm almost feeling bad about Ron, here - talk about a senseless death! It quite makes sense that Hermione would turn her research into preventing more accidents like this happening.
Response from pyjamapants (Author of The Witches of Gilford)
Hopefully Ron's death didn't disgust you too much. Thanks for the review!

he would rather drink potions made from his own toenails than make small talk with anyone. Oh, that's the exact Severus that I love so much! That was a lovely little visit to the land of backstory. It is touching and certainly understandable that Hermione would devote her research to finding a way to prevent a recurrence of the horrible accident that took Ron from her. It was lovely to watch Severus avidly interested in what she had to say about consulting, in spite of his dislike for socializing. A couple pints never hurt anyone. Apparently a couple of drinks do these two a world of good! Anything to get them through the horrors of Book Club! PS Love what Tom's done to the place!

I'm new to the story, so this will cover all three chapters. This is so much fun. I love the pair meeting for drinks before the club meeting. They have far better control over themselves than I would have if I were in their situation. My sister belongs to a book club not much different than this. They keep inviting me and I keep saying no. Thanks for reminding me why I need to keep saying no.
Response from pyjamapants (Author of The Witches of Gilford)
I'm so glad I could reinforce your will against the peer pressure of the book club. And I'm very glad that you enjoyed all three chapters. Thanks for the review!

Hermione's story is compelling and realistically done. It seems very much in character for her to persue research that would have saved Ron's life. I love that Severus is interested despite himself.
Response from pyjamapants (Author of The Witches of Gilford)
Thanks so very much for your review. I'm trying to make Hermione and Ron's back story as realistic as possible. While I love a good shitty!Ron story, I wanted to challenge myself. Sadly, I wasn't up for the challenge of a semi-epilogue compliant Ron who lived.
