The war and subsequent clean-up has ended, and the wizarding world is beginning to come out of its shell. Having had enough of Hermione and Severus's bookworm, introverted ways, Molly and Minerva give well-intentioned Christmas gifts aiming to push our heroes out of their comfort zones and into the arms of a well-read, like-minded witch or wizard. Will our heroes ally to survive with their wits intact? Will they overcome their personal demons? Will they find love within the pages of the detested novel?

Ginny needs to be shot, that could have been a very nice morning. Of course, going straight to sex would have meant this lovely chapter wouldn't exist, so I guess she's forgiven.

I'm sure they'll have other lovely mornings...Thanks for reviewing!

Can't wait to what subversion they have planned!Though I do hope the "date" (which neither will admit to calling such) goes swimmingly first. It will give the next book club meeting loads more subtext!
Response from pyjamapants (Author of The Witches of Gilford)
Thanks! I'm glad you're looking forward to the date! Most have said they're looking forward to the book club meeting. My response in my head is "heeeelllloooooooo, DATE!!!!! You seriously need to rethink your priorities!":)

It's good to see them get along so well, even after the Ginny incident. I am so looking forward to their presentation!
Response from pyjamapants (Author of The Witches of Gilford)
Oh, but their symphony outing is next! Alas, you'll have to wait a bit for their presentation. Thanks so much for reviewing!

He doesn't like Bolero??? Oh dear! That is one of my favorite pieces!!! :o Though I would hate to be a percussionist for that piece!xDLove this fic, by the way!
Response from pyjamapants (Author of The Witches of Gilford)
Perhaps he'll learn to appreciate it. :)Thanks for leaving a review. I'm going you're enjoying the story!P.S. I suspect that if you like Bolero, you'll find the next chapter quite a treat.

LOL! I'm glad you cleared that "debagged" thing for me. A part of me didn't want to know what it was if it had to do with Bellatrix...but of course, morbid curiosity won over. And yes, she's was a crazy bitch:)Good job, I'm loving it, just wish Ginny had been a bit more harrassing towards Snape. A biting comment would have been a decent revenge.Livvy

Yes, debagged isn't easily guessable for those on this side of the pond.Glad you liked it. I suspect Ginny wouldn't have been able to delivered a biting comment without laughing in the middle. :) I know I wouldn't have. Heck, I would have started giggling once I thought of waking them up.Thanks for reviewing.
Response from livvy6 (Reviewer)
That's true! lol! Just the look of Snape disoreinted and caught off guard, embarrassed would have been priceless to see.
Response from pyjamapants (Author of The Witches of Gilford)
It may, perchance, have been a bit OOC for Bellatrix. Or perhaps she was hoping to cast a disfiguring hex once the debagging was complete and was interrupted.... Alas, we'll never know. She took the story to her grave, and Severus would never admit the details.

Awwww. It's good to see them feeling closer - and it was even better to see Hermione acknowledge it as well as not give in to the stray thoughts of kissing him right away. I'm really liking this Severus - prickly and snarky, yet capable of affection.
Response from pyjamapants (Author of The Witches of Gilford)
I'm so relieved to hear that you like this Severus. I've been panicing a bit that he's too fuzzy and affectionate and cute. Just hearing him described as prickly and snarky puts me at ease. :)Thanks for your review!

I'm so sorry it's taken me so long to review! I loved all the emotions in this chapter. From Severus being ticked off to them cuddling at the end it was an awesome rollercoaster! I can't wait to see how they handdle the cuddles when she wakes up! They're so cute together!!! ~Brena
Response from pyjamapants (Author of The Witches of Gilford)
Thanks so much for reviewing! The next chapter is in the queue, so you won't have to wait too long to see what becomes of their cuddling.

Well, you've managed to get them sleeping together--but not quite in the way we're hoping they'll end up! This is actually very sweet. I look forward to the continued gradual coming together. Very nicely done!

Oh No, Poor Severus. I can't believe he never addressed any of the war baggage. And Poor Hermione for being the one who brought it up! How crappy. I love how things are progressing. I especially loved skieving off the meeting for fish and chips! Good stuff! I hope Severus gets the counseling he needs and maybe some good lovin' too! Cheers! ~Brena

At least Hermione didn't face his wrath for mentioning it. I suspect he'll reward her later once he's begun to unwind. ;)Thanks for the review!

"Albus Dumbledore, you were a right fucker for leaving that man with no support."Damned straight, Minerva! The fact that Albus left his spy out in the cold is the reason I lost all respect for the man and his supposed twinkling genius. Thank goodness Severus has finally blown and can start cleansing himself of all that horror! Hopefully this will not affect the new chumminess of his relationship with Hermione. Wouldn't want any awkwardness just when things were going along so swimmingly!I absolutely adored Hermione's one time plan to jettison them from the book club meeting! Nothing like teamwork to make a relationship grow. And it does seem to be growing, what with Hermione worrying about whether it's a date and Severus reading up and preparing for his meetings with Hermione. How long do you think they will be dating before either one admits it?
Response from pyjamapants (Author of The Witches of Gilford)
Thank you!I believe Severus probably finds this newfound friendship with Hermione a bit too tenuous to begin unloading the angst of war upon her just yet.I suspect it will take a bit of physical involvement before they admit they're dating...

Great chapter, loved the puking pastille scene and I loved how Hermione offered to listen to him. It's sad that he had no one to talk to.
Response from pyjamapants (Author of The Witches of Gilford)
Thank you! I was quite pleased with the puking pastille, myself.

Wow. I loved Snape's rant at Minerva. I am eager to continue to process what the whole ordeal looked like from Snape's perspective.

I'm glad that Snape's rant was up to snuff. I had to work myself into a bit of a snit to write it. I'm glad it paid off. Thanks for the review!

Goodness, no wonder he finally exploded! And I can quite believe that everyone's been avoiding talking about the war with him - it's hard enough to talk about things with people who went through similar stuff themselves, but to try it with Snape might be far too scary (not to mention the guilt, and not really knowing what to say, and so on).I'm glad Hermione mentioned it - hopefully this will help him make a start at healing.
Response from pyjamapants (Author of The Witches of Gilford)
Thanks so much for your review. I had worried that it wouldn't be believable for Severus to have gone so long without discussing it. Your review gave me an image of all the professors in the staff room drawing straws to see who had to be the one to confront Severus... looks like Minerva got the short straw in my story. Thanks again!

It's so sad that until Hermione began talking about dealing with the aftermath of the war, no one had ever talked with Severus about what he must have gone through. I'm not at all surprised that he blew up at Minerva's mention of his behavior in classes lately. That was probably the first time he had actually spoken about how he had felt about the things he'd been required to do.Minerva's parting shot to Albus' empty portrait frame was spot on. Perhaps she will give him an earful when he returns to it.Putting a Calming Draught in Severus' tea was a stroke of brilliance. Everyone, especially Severus, needed a break. Maybe he will get some much needed sleep.Great chapter! I look forward to seeing how Severus, Hermione and Minerva deal with these feelings that have come to the surface. You've got a winner here!BethPS- Congrats on running your marathon... that is quite an accomplishment!!!

Thank you, both for the excellent review and congratulations! I will warn you that the story doesn't focus too much on the emotional aftermath. The story is primarily one of romance and humor. That said, Hermione still has some demons to wrestle, doesn't she?

I thought Minerva dismissed Severus rather quickly after he had his explosion. Or maybe she just wanted to hussle him back to his bed since she drugged him? Woo HOO Min got the Potions Master. She gets lots of bragging rights for that. Will Snape go to visit Granger on his free weekend and have a chat? Inquiring minds want to know.
Response from pyjamapants (Author of The Witches of Gilford)
I'm not sure how Minerva tolerated him as long as she did, especially after having fielded complaints from professors and students about his behaviour. I suspect Severus has other discussions to hash through before he starts opening up to Hermione about such a sensitive subject. Thanks for the review.

So many great parts to this chapter. Genius ploy in getting out of the meeting, and then them going to Hermione's flat shows how they're getting so comfortable with one another. I love how Severus brooding over the war returns his caustic behavior, but it's more because he's in emotional turmoil than wanting to erect all the walls and emotional barriers he had to during the war. He really needed to have that talk with Minerva. Even 5 years too late, it will do him good to have talked with someone. And yes. Albus was a right fucker for all that he did. I don't think I've quite forgiven him yet.

Thanks! The ploy to get out of the meeting was one of the first bits I wrote, and I've been itching for other people to read it for months!

They have developed an interesting language over the years...It seems that Severus's outburst was long overdue and I sincerely hope that he will manage to get it out of his system (with Hermione's help maybe?)
Response from pyjamapants (Author of The Witches of Gilford)
I suspect it will take Severus a while to work out his pent-up angst. For his student's sake, hopefully he'll manage to find some constructive ways to deconstruct. Thanks for the review.

The way this group gossips, I'll be receiving Howlers from Molly berating me for sullying Ron's memory with my inappropriate behaviour before I have the chance to Apparate back to my flat!” gosh! people really are like that!“Having wanted to vomit at these meetings for weeks, I must admit it was quite satisfying finally to display my displeasure so … visually. you are soooo funny!I really like Hermione's impromptu dispay of delight at her first skiving off. so sweet.I love her building! i always like to see the ideas writers have about details of magic LKR never mentioned.
I love their bantering and her understanding offer of a listening ear. So sweet to see him being drawn out, and her too, to a lesser extent after losing Ron. Oh i didn't mention that he underlined passages to make her laugh during meetings. that's adorable.and he had a heart-to-heart with Minerva! Good. This is such a wonderful story! Thank you f or sharing it with us.
