"A Murder of Crows" was my first foray into fan-fiction, and I treasure the lessons I've learned while posting it.
Reviews for A Murder of Crows
Hey there! I just wanted to drop a note to say I Love This Story! OMG, I have told my two girlfriends who also read fan fic to check this one out. I can't wait to find out what happened to Hermione at Arglist and how she got tricked into in the first place. If her Professor was Imperioed or just a Polyjuiced version of himself. I love all the thought and work you've put into the story and dialogue and can't wait till Chapter 7! Thanks for a very intriguing and enjoyable read! Cheers! ~Brena

“One more thing, Hermione..... If you ever again refer to me as ‘old man’, there will be consequences,” he purred against her skin. “You might force me to teach you just how… arousing… experience and maturity can be.” OMG! We should all be so fortunate. *Sigh*Girl friend, you know how to write sexy. Now, onto other interesting happenings in this chapter.Bertram Aubrey is, I think, going to be Trouble, with a capital T. I know he said that his father had attended Hogwarts and had not very flattering things to say about James Potter and Sirius Black. But he never said that he himself had gone to Hogwarts. Hummmm.... Let's think about this. Bertram is the DADA teacher at Hogwarts... and I'd bet a week's wages he attended Drumstrang and Jagiellonian University. See, he is a few years older than Hermione, but she obviously doesn't remember him from Hogwarts.... yesssssss... What you wanna bet Ole Berty's daddy was in Slytherin House? He is entirely too interested in "the fall of Voldemort." Or rather, he is entirely too interested in the part Hermione played in the fall of Voldemort. He even makes Hermione uncomfortable when he asks her about those things. But our ever trusting Hermione's brave, but impetuous, Gryffindor heart has led her to agree to discuss his new questions with him for four straight Saturdays. And I noticed that Severus seemed to be following their discussion during the walk to the Three Broomsticks. Then Severus was obviously intrigued by her having earned a doctorate in Potions from Jagiellonian University and then having worked for Arglist Industries. My money is on Severus' knowing more than he is letting on about all that goes on in the Potions Dept. at Jagiellonian and at Arglist. This can't be good for the Light. "Oh what a tangled web we weave when first we practice to deceive."This chapter was very nicely done! I'm not afraid to be proved wrong, but I just had to share with you where my thoughts took me as I read this chapter. 8^)Beth

The scene with a drunk Hermione was deliciously funny! One day she will learn not to let her mouth promise more than her arse can deliver. That girl cannot hold her "likker."
Response from HogwartsClassof91 (Author of A Murder of Crows)
Oh, Beth... I just love getting your reviews!!!So you don't trust Bertram, huh?! But he seems so kind and unassuming... *whistles innocently* *looks shifty*
I'm so glad you're telling me exactly what your take is when you read the chapter. It's an immense help. I don't want to spoil any surprises, but I will tell you you're right about something a couple of things.
Thank you very much for the compliment on writing sexy; I always struggle with it, so your words really lifted my spirits!!! And speaking of spirits, you're quite right about Hermione! Stubborn girl... probably wasn't the brightest decision she's made!Again, thank you so much for taking the time to leave me this insightful review. I can't wait to hear what you say after the next chapter, when a little more is revealed...

Response from HogwartsClassof91 (Author of A Murder of Crows)
Patience, my friend! :-) All will be revealed in time, I promise (man, doesn't that sound trite?!). Seriously, though, it's a major part of the story and it certainly doesn't get forgotten.Your first sentences made me laugh with delight!! I do believe you're right!!!! Thanks so much for the nice review!

Ooooo.... the plot thickens. After a less than stellar start to the day, I think it is safe to say that Hermione has surprised Severus with her "short cut" for the preparation of the Creativity Potion. And unless I miss my mark, she has also surprised him with her ability to "ensnare the senses" ..... specifically to ensnare HIS senses. This just keeps getting better and better!!! Well done!!!Beth

You are right on the mark, Beth! I'm glad you liked it... I thought it was important for Hermione to prove herself and her abilities as Potions mistress. And I'd say she's definitely piqued his curiosity regarding methods...Thanks so much for the very nice reviews and golden stars!!!

You took me back 15 years to my own days of closing down bars, my body actually hurts in sympathy for Hermione (or maybe remembrance of my own stupidity). Great chapter, wonderful story. It has gotten better with each chapter, and I'm anxious to read more.

Well, they always say "write what you know"... I'm glad sorry to have brought back those memories!! We've all done stupid crap like that, I think - isn't it refreshing to imagine someone as smart as Hermione can be just as much of a tit as the rest of us at times?!Thanks very much for the lovely review and your extremely kind compliments. (I love the sparkly stars, too!)

I think she's lucky she didn't get alcohol poisoning. That was a bit of fun, though.

You're right - I probably should have put a "don't try this at home" disclaimer on this chapter. Of course, it always seemed as if (in canon) witches/wizards bodies react much different than Muggles as far as medical conditions are concerned. So maybe it wasn't as risky as it sounds? Thanks so much for reading and leaving me stars!!!

When I first read that, I wondered what Snape's response would be to the 'old man' comment. His response was delicious.

Fun chapter. Do I see a seduction based on challenges coming soon? That could be fun. I must say that of all the careers I have seen Hermione have in the future, your version seems to be the most fitting with her astounding intelligence. Her independence seems to me to indicate that she would not want to work in a beauracracy and she would definitely like to make her own decisions. You are very talented at keeping canon characters true to their original personalities.
Response from HogwartsClassof91 (Author of A Murder of Crows)
What a lovely, insightful review - thanks ever so much! I agree with you about Hermione's career; I hate to contradict Jo, but I have a hard time picturing Hermione at the Ministry. Then again, I have a hard time picturing a lasting marriage to Ron, so I guess I'll just keep contradicting the author!! Oh, dear...I also wanted to thank you VERY much for your compliment about my portrayal of canon characters... I can't tell you how much that means to me! :-)

I was wondering how long it would take Severus to make a pass at Hermione. Funny chapter, I can see her being stubborn to the point of making herself sick.

How Alan Rickman/Snape was that “Is. That. So.” Even the piching of the bottom I can imagine hehe.
So glad this has been updated.
I'm so pleased to see this story back up again! I'm sure that I don't need to tell you again what an avid fan of your little fic I am!
I had to smile at your previous reviewer's comments when talking about the way AR delivers his lines - I fully concur with her! I recently did a review of HBP for another website and said that I think Alan Rickman plays the character of Snape as a parody of Snape now! You have certainly got him 'spot on' in my opinion!
I know you said before that RL gets in the way (doesn't it always!) but please, please don't allow me to get like this every time! I need more frequent updates!! :-)
Murder of Crows is back! So glad to see its return, and looking forward to the meeting between Severus and Hermione. Also, it was so Alan Rickman of you to include this: Snape cocked his head to the side and spoke so slowly—so deliberately—each word stood as its own sentence. “Is. That. So.” What would we ever do without his portrayal of Snape to keep us warm at night? lol
fabulous story so far and oh the response to what Harry had named his son! lol can't wait to read more!
Oh HURRAH! you're back! I've been checking and re-checking this story for an update!
Well, lots to be happy here, about, and lots to worry over. I loved the conversation between them--I can never get enough of fanfiction that reveals more of Severus' past than 'canon' gave us, and his reaction to it. I was also relieved that an exchange which could have VERY quickly "gone South", did not, and that they were not only embracing one another afterward, but sharing teasing and kisses.
But I don't trust your MOM at all---how can they be sure he isn't playing BOTH sides of the fence, and is working to 'help' Malfoy by handing Hermione (with Severus as a bonus) over to him? How convenient THAT would be---get rid of a political "benefactor's" thorn-in-the-side and also your own competition, in one neat package...
I'm looking forward to Hermione's parents' interactions with Severus, but worried about those so-called "aurors" the MOM is planning on assigning to protect them. Would I be correct in surmising that NO wards, however skillfully constructed, would be of any use if one's attacker is already inside them? (see? I'm a very suspicious person by nature---grin)
Oh hurry Hermione (and Severus), get to your parents house before something goes wrong. This is a "edge-of-your-seat" story. Hurry with the next update...please
Good story, I hope its not been abandoned.
