"A Murder of Crows" was my first foray into fan-fiction, and I treasure the lessons I've learned while posting it.
Reviews for A Murder of Crows
Thanks for the fast chapter but damn he just can't be on the side of Malfoy! That would be disgusting. Is he trying to get the information from Hermione so he can destroy the formula once and for all, get money out of Malfoy and then destroy him???? What a good mystery and I'm sure it will all be reveiled in the last six chapters. Quick please like a bunny......
Oh I don't no what to believe! If Snape is really fooling Lucius I don't no how he can bring himself to say those things. Please hurry, put my mind at rest lol.
Very dramatic, and I'm looking forward to more! This is certainly a story where it's plausible to believe Severus is on his own side... and a real betrayer of Hermione after all. :(
*waits for next chapter*
I did not realize you had taken up torture as a hobby.
How can you leave it here?!?
I saw this update when I was about to head off to bed, and thought, "Oh, I HAVE to read this before I go to bed!"--and now, sleep will have a hard time finding me, I think.
My heart is still pounding.
I can't even catch one of my whirling thoughts long enough to speculate on what Hermione will do. Just--please--get the update to us SOON! Don't make us wait a week--SOON, ok???
Groan...More please!
So I hate myself for not reviewing sooner. I'm such a lurcker and will review stories that I think are well written. So this is like a review for all the past chapters. Haha. I love your story. And this chapter: wow! It blew me away. I have to admit, I usually don't like a mean Snape (I mostly like a happy ending) but I would love your story to end with Snape being a bit of a villain. I loved Hermione's anguish. My first reaction was "No! Snape how could you!?!" But as the chapter went on I was started to like the idea of his betrayal. I don't know why (maybe it's PMS, ha!) but it kind of would be a different ending to a Hermione/Snape story. Anyway, I look forward to those last 6 or so chapters you are promising us!
This is so amazing and intense. I both like and hate how Hermione is so quick to jump to conclusions and act on them wrecklessly. I think it's appropriate for her personality but it is exasperating. Then again, maybe at some point her quick thinking will be useful to her. At the moment I think maybe she's being irrational. I love the story.
OMG! What a revelation. The master spy is an excellent actor, fooling either Lucius or Hermione. I'm all angsty, thinking poor Hermione has been played, duped, her heart trod upon.
Oh, so excellent chapter.
Such a short chapter! No! I want more! Please hurry with the next chapter. I can't wait. I wonder what his explination will be. I want to believe he's good, but so many fingers point at him. Argggg!(love the story by the way.)

I know! I never write such short chapters! Never fear, the next is shaping up to be quite meaty. Thank you so much for your review and comments ... I'm delighted you like the story! I shall endeavor to have the next chapter posted soon, I promise.
That was so good.
Response from HogwartsClassof91 (Author of A Murder of Crows)
Aww ... Thank you! I feel as if I've wrung myself out writing this chapter and the next. I'm really not a fan of angst. :-)
You realise if you leave me hanging for too long, I may just die of curiosity. I really, really, really need to know what happens next! Excellent chapter, but then it's an excellent fic! *applauds*

I am 2/3 done with the next chapter! (Soooo ready to exit this roller coaster ... Remind me to leave the writing of angst to others in the future!)Thanks so much for the lovely stars. GLOMPS
I love how you are writing this story. I grow more excited with every chapter that I read.

Oh NOOOOO! and I have to wait for an UPDATE?!!! AGG. LOL. Excellent story. Of course patience is something that always vexes me, too. I'll have to make an update bookmark.
Response from HogwartsClassof91 (Author of A Murder of Crows)
Oooh ... I know how hard it is when you reach the end of a WIP! If it helps, I am extremely anxious to finish posting this story. In fact, I just posted the next chapter a few moments ago, and only six chapters (plus an epilogue) remain.Thank you so much for the review and lovely stars. I truly appreciate you taking the time to provide feedback!
i have to be honest, this story is very lovely, but painful to read. i feel so bad for hermione, being in love with someone who is unwilling or unable to love her in return (since he's stuck on a woman who died decades ago, how messed up is that?). my heart just breaks for her, she deserves so much better. i don't understand why severus is with her if he's not open to any significant feelings for hermione, but perhaps his heart will open a bit soon!
Response from HogwartsClassof91 (Author of A Murder of Crows)
Thank you for the review, and thank you for your willingness to read a story that can be rather painful at times. I wish I could comment more about the future, but I'd hate to spoil the ending by giving away too much. I will say, however, that it can be very difficult to judge what is going on in Snape's mind, since the story is told entirely from Hermione's point of view. In the previous chapter, when Snape said, "I cannot ...", Hermione assumes he means that he cannot love her, but without a glimpse inside his head, there could be other possibilities. Only time (and the next eight chapters) will provide the answers.I really think his heart is opening more each day, and their relationship has progressed a great deal in its short duration (at this point, he's been "awake" for 8 months, and they've been together for 5 months). Stay tuned ... And thanks again for the feedback!
Obviously a tribute to 9-11. Very tasteful and well executed.I'll have to read your op-ed piece.

Thank you for your kind words. I originally wrote this chapter last year, so it felt like synchroncity, having it ready to post on today of all days.
What a simply awesome chapter!!! Thanks.

Thank you very much for the praise - I appreciate it!

I love how each character keeps evolving, but you keep everyone in character.
What a thought provoking chapter. These lines I found very moving:“It’s amazing,” Sandy whispered. “Beautiful and horrible at the same moment.” Hermione nodded. She had felt the same way the first time she’d seen the monument. “I think it needs to be a bit horrible,” she said. “I think the day we’re unmoved by such a sight is the day they died in vain.”Loved the Kama Sutra line as well.:) Am I the only one who thinks that Sandy Creevey would be perfect for Neville, he's in to Herbology... she runs a florist busines? Hmmmmm......
Response from HogwartsClassof91 (Author of A Murder of Crows)
In retrospect, it sounds rather shocking to have the Kama Sutra and the war memorial mentioned in the same chapter, doesn't it? This is what happens when I attempt to condense my work! :-)I just adore Sandy Creevey, and I think you may be on to something there! In the original draft of this story (which I wrote over a year ago), I had about five chapters separating Hermione's conversation with Neville and the introduction of Sandy. It was a bit more subtle that way, but as the story is already waaaaaay over 100,000 words, I've been doing a lot of chopping as I post it. Only seven chapters left (after the one I just posted today)! Thanks so much for your lovely review and stars!
Ohh, the last part of that chapter was quite powerfully written.

Thank you very much ... I'm pleased you found it so.
You really caught me up in the the character of Colin's sister. I wonder if some great joy might bring the magic back into her life...maybe the birth of her first child.I think you wrote the passing years and the ability of a moment to transport us back to that awful day very well. In fourteen years, a class of first years started Hogwarts and graduated, and now another is about to do the same. Your seventh-years are concerned with passing their NEWTS, not with something that happened when they were three. The wars are history to them. Teddy Lupin will be starting school in a year or two. A year or two after that, the first years won't even have been born when Voldemort was finally defeated. The years of terror will be only something their elders talk about at family gatherings, if their families ever speak of those times at all. I applaud McGonagall's ability to be sure the sacrifices of the past are never forgotten, without allowing them to become all-consuming.I read your op-ed piece as well. I encourage other readers to do the same.
Response from HogwartsClassof91 (Author of A Murder of Crows)
I like your theory on Colin's sister. Since tragedy seems to have taken her magic, perhaps joy could bring it back ...The timing of this chapter was entirely coincidental, yet I couldn't help but draw similarities to RL, especially with how the children respond to the anniversary. it's only been eight years for us, but I think of the Twin Towers constantly, having visited them countless times in my life (I'm from NJ). Yet they will never exist for my 4-year-old daughter. Her eyes will never be drawn to their famiiiar silhouettes on the Manhattan skyline. It's a very bizarre realization to make. I suppose we just need to find the balance between dwelling on it and forgetting it entirely.Thank you so much for this lovely review. It means a great deal to me!
Incredible chapter. The memorial is an amazing idea.
Response from HogwartsClassof91 (Author of A Murder of Crows)
Thank you! I'm not sure how I'd react to such a memorial if it actually existed—whether I'd be unable to bear it for very long, or whether I'd want to spend far too long staring at it. Perhaps it's not always a bad thing, being a Muggle. :-)Next chapter has been posted ...
The humour was wonderfully done, as was the whole idea of the memorial.
Response from HogwartsClassof91 (Author of A Murder of Crows)
Thank you! I think the chapter could have easily become far too morose without a bit of humour in there. Ooh - thanks for the shiny stars, too!The next chapter has been posted ...
Great chapter! And I congratulate you on that wonderful piece of writing in your blog. I'm German, I know how impotant remembering is...
Response from HogwartsClassof91 (Author of A Murder of Crows)
Thank you so much! I never intended to go off on a political rant ... I'm rarely so opinionated! (Hufflepuff, here ... We smoothe feathers, we don't ruffle them!) Yet this chapter really seemed to spark some different emotions in me, coinciding as it did with 9/11 and the overall lack of respect we've seen lately. I'm sure I annoyed some readers, but as you so rightly said, it's important to remember. Thanks for the review and stars. The next chapter has been posted ...
This was an amazing chapter, not least because of it resulting in 'a day of absolutions', but also because of the humour you have, as always, still maaged to inject into the more sombre theme.Minerva keep catching them together (especially when she mistook them for students) was very amusing! "There isn't a single position in the entire Kama Sutra that could change Severus' mind once it's been set" is one of the best lines I've ever read! (My advice to Hermione on this would be that it would be fun working on the theory of that!) :-)
Response from HogwartsClassof91 (Author of A Murder of Crows)
LOL - I was commenting to another reviewer that it seems somehow disrespectful to have written about the Kama Sutra and the war memorial in the same chapter. But perhaps it's an appropriate reflection on how life goes on.Oh, and I absolutely agree with your advice to Hermione! Due diligence never sounded so appealing!Thank you so much for spoiling me with such lovely praise and stars! The next chapter has been posted ...
