"A Murder of Crows" was my first foray into fan-fiction, and I treasure the lessons I've learned while posting it.
Reviews for A Murder of Crows
Oh my goodness. I have seen this story up for a while but RL and doing my own writing never left me the time to get stuck in. However, I have just read up to this chapter in one go and I am so in love with it!!Although I am a little scared about Lucius turning up NOW, just when things are going... well, the way they are going... with Severus... feeling uneasy!! I must also tell you that chapter 12 made my stomach flip and my heart wrench... perfect writing!

Oh, I'm so glad you decided to take the plunge and read this story! I know it can be daunting to commit to a WIP, but I have actually completed it ... It's just a matter of whipping each chapter into shape before I'm willing to post them. :-)Thank you so, so much for this lovely review!! Lucius does indeed have less-than-desirable timing, and I'm not sure if the next chapter will allay your uneasy feelings any. Thanks again for the review and stars - I truly appreciate it! I just uploaded the next chapter - hope you enjoy!!
Shits and Drools????

And that summarizes my experience with infants ... :-)Thanks for the review and stars!
Oh oh.... this cannot be good... arg, you've got me on tenterhooks!
Response from HogwartsClassof91 (Author of A Murder of Crows)
Oh, but that's a compliment to someone trying to write suspense. But never fear - I just uploaded the next chapter! Thanks so much for the review!!
oh - I'm worried about Lucius and laughing about Luna - and you need to have a job in RL that entails naming stores - love your baby emporium name! Thanks for your hard work and for sharing your fun!
Response from HogwartsClassof91 (Author of A Murder of Crows)
LOL - so glad you enjoyed the Schitz & Drewls joke ... It gave me many a chuckle whilst writing it! Thank you so very much for this lovely review - I truly appreciate it! The next chapter has been posted, so you won't have to worry about Lucius for too much longer ...
Oh dear, a cliffe!!!!! So good, can't wait for more!
Response from HogwartsClassof91 (Author of A Murder of Crows)
Aww ... Thank you SO much! I'm so glad you're enjoying it. The next chapter was just posted!
I love your writing! This story is complex and fun at the same time. 'Dad' as Lucious is priceless!
Response from HogwartsClassof91 (Author of A Murder of Crows)

Response from HogwartsClassof91 (Author of A Murder of Crows)
Tee hee ... Would you have preferred Neville?!
Ha, ha, ha!!!! Shitz & Drewlz!!!!!! OMG, I haven't laughed that hard in a long time. Great chapter--I'd say more but it's hard to type while still giggling!
Response from HogwartsClassof91 (Author of A Murder of Crows)
Tee hee ... It's such a silly little thing, but I'm rather proud of that name! Thanks so much for the review and stars, love!!
I really wish there was FAR more of Severus in this story and A LOT less Lucius.
Response from HogwartsClassof91 (Author of A Murder of Crows)
I really wish Richard Armitage would realize I'm the perfect woman for him. I'm guessing neither of us will have our wish granted—alas, Richard never calls, and Lucius is rather key to the plot, being the antagonist of the story.
Response from ladyljd (Reviewer)
Got it. Moving on.
I had to stop for a laugh-relief session when I came to the name of the Baby store. Brilliant!! As to Hermione and Lucius--as Filch said in the movie, "Oh, my, we _are_ in trouble now!" As to your hints of why Hermione would go off alone with Lucius---well, I would imagine she _wouldn't_--unless----unless she believed someone she cared about, very, _very_, much, was in danger.....hmmmmm???And how long will be the delay before she is missed, and someone re-traces her steps, with Luna, with Ron, and then with Lucius? And if Lucius _does_ mean her harm--ah, well, I recall the ominous comment Severus made two chapters ago about his feelings toward those who "mess with" what is _his_--!!
Response from HogwartsClassof91 (Author of A Murder of Crows)
So glad you liked Schitz & Drewls! It makes me want to open a baby boutique just to use that name! :-)Very good theory on why Hermione would go off with Lucius - I could easily see her courage increase tenfold if she felt someone needed her help. I'm not saying whether or not that will happen ... But it is an excellent theory! Thanks so much for the review and the stars! I will endeavor to post the next chapter quickly and satisfy your curiosity.
quick hermione! there's a jinx i know that you'd like! It's called the clothesofficus jinx and all you say is CLOTHES OFFICUS! and BAM the jinx turns the poor sap the thing was aimed at to being TOTALLY bare nekkid.mmmhm, s'a good one ^^
Response from HogwartsClassof91 (Author of A Murder of Crows)
Somehow, I doubt you learned that one at Hogwarts! LOL. Thanks for the review and stars!
Response from keske (Reviewer)
too right i didn't. learned in knockturn alley, i did. from what may or may not have been a flat, bearded woman in a neon pink dress and high heels.they don't teach the fun things at school ya know.=? lolgood for dealing with enemies in publick places, revealing the dark mark, etc etc and so forth.also useful in seein if the other person was telling the truth ~winks lasciviously then gets AK'd~
Just why does she have such an unreasonable fear about Lucius? They are in a public place where he cannot accost her, as he did at the party. And if she is so uncomfortable then just what is stopping her from firmly saying 'no thank you, I have to leave!" and flooing out of there. He cannot physically restrain her in front of the whole resturant! She has to stop letting him intimidate her--her 'guilt' over the Arglist incident is not a secret from Severus and Lucius can't very well expose her to the general public without incriminating himself... I hope she grows a spine where the elder Malfoy is concerned.
Response from HogwartsClassof91 (Author of A Murder of Crows)
Give her a chance! :-) I think this is just her natural, knee-jerk reaction to seeing the man she thinks killed her mentor (and who wants nothing more than to see her kind wiped off the Earth). I see I need to hurry up and post the next chapter ... I seem to have everyone questioning her spine and backbone. But I think you'll be pleased by what happens next. *hurries away to work on next chapter*
Response from orm irian (Reviewer)
Thank goodness she's not going to implode again! I look forward to the next chapter.
Now all we need is for Severus to arrive and this could get really really nasty! Thanks for the update.
Response from HogwartsClassof91 (Author of A Murder of Crows)
No doubt! But seeing how she was shopping for baby items, I strongly suspect Severus will be keeping his distance from her this afternoon. :-) Thanks for the review!
I think at this point, it's time for Severus to turn up... Save the day N all that.
Look forward to more.
Response from HogwartsClassof91 (Author of A Murder of Crows)
I think we should see how she manages on her own first. :-)Thanks so much for the review!
I agree with Hermione, what does Lucius want? Nicely done chapter.
Response from HogwartsClassof91 (Author of A Murder of Crows)
Thank you! And good question ... I suppose the reprieve she had while he hired that team of wizard-scientists has come to an end. Thanks very much for the review and stars!
I guess I just don't understand. If Hermione feels so menaced by Lucius, why doesn't she just leave? Why does she act so helpless? Seems odd that she seems to prefer to act powerless and need to be rescued rather than to simply leave threatening situations. I always figured Hermione to have more backbone.
Response from HogwartsClassof91 (Author of A Murder of Crows)
See, I think it takes more courage to face your fears than to 'just leave.' I guess I just don't understand how calmly facing Lucius is in any way acting helpless, powerless, or requiring of rescue. Mere seconds have passed since Luna's departure ... I would propose it's impossible to guess at this point precisely what her reactions will be. The next chapter will delve into her mindset and answer that, if you're still reading. And if not, that's okay, too - it's impossible to please everyone's tastes, and diverse opinions is what makes our fandom fun! Thank you for providing your honest feedback.
what discriptive prose! "the doloros lament of a heart broken wolf" phenominal! you write brilliently. i am so with hermione on that "mine" thing...with him it is different. i am so into you! thanks so much
Response from HogwartsClassof91 (Author of A Murder of Crows)
Thanks very much for the lovely review! The dreary weather we've seen this winter must have inspired me to wax poetic for a bit. :-)Agree with you on Severus ... He can sell possessive in a way most men simply cannot. Thanks again, my dear!
'bout time too, Puffbuddy! :P But it was worth the wait. :)
Response from HogwartsClassof91 (Author of A Murder of Crows)
Thank you, my love! Feel free to crack that Hufflepuffian whip anytime you feel the need ...
I wish I was, quite simply, his...... sigh....
Response from HogwartsClassof91 (Author of A Murder of Crows)
LOL! Me, too. He can sell possessive in ways other men could only dream of. :-)Thanks so much for the shiny stars!
Still here! Draco is great. At least Severus did help Hermione understand how Slytherin's work and how he felt about it! I look forward to more.
Response from HogwartsClassof91 (Author of A Murder of Crows)
Yay - you haven't given up! :-)Thanks very much. I think it was important for her to see a different perspective. Not sure how easy it will be to take his advice, but at least she understands it better. Thanks again for the review!
Response from timestep (Reviewer)
Of course I haven't given up. Your story is way to intriguing (and very well written).
It is very hard to read your characters. I'm with Hemrione in that I have no idea what Severus thinks of her - even if she is "his". They are both very aloof and seem to tread lightly around each other, never revealing too much emotion, too much of themselves to the other. It's a very interesting take on SS/HG and one I haven't really seen before. Hermione is usually so open and once Severus stakes his claim you can usually read him like a book as well, but certianly not in this fic. Throughout I keep wondering 'What is he thinking/feeling? What is she thinking/feeling?' We definitely see more answers from Hermione's end, but that doesn't make this riddle of a relationship easy to decipher.
Response from HogwartsClassof91 (Author of A Murder of Crows)
Thanks so much for your review. Trust has been a major theme running through the story ... offering, breaking, repairing. I believe this is one reason they tread lightly around each other - neither is ready to trust the other with too much as yet. There is a great deal of hesitation on both their parts. For Snape, it might just be because he's the kind of man who is reluctant to reveal too much. Or there might be something else going on in his mind - hard to tell without being given his POV. For Hermione, it's a combination of Snape being that kind of man and her own experiences having jaded her. She's not a young woman who gives her heart easily anymore ... She's in her mid-thirties and trying to be cautious, especially since she's already been hurt by this particular man. Unfortunately, there are some things that remain vulnerable despite our best efforts to guard them. Thanks again for the review and stars. I hope the riddle will be easier to decipher as the story progresses. :-)
Yay, An Update! Thank You for coming back to this story I have truly missed it! Damn do I hate Lucius, seriously what an arse... and I can't believe I'm actually starting to wonder if Draco is actually in on the Arglist thing. Since Severus suggested it I've been thinking "What If". And how about that "Mine" statement, always awesome when done correctly and this was just perfect. Thanks again for bringing this story back to us. Much Love ~ Brena
Response from HogwartsClassof91 (Author of A Murder of Crows)
Aww ... Thank you so much for the lovely review. I never intended to go so long between updates and hope to never repeat that! :-)So glad you liked possessive!Snape ... He has a way of making it work.I'm halfway through editing the next chapter and hope to submit it soon. Thanks again for your patience ... and the shiny stars!!
Quit now? You must be joking! I've missed it terribly. It is rather sweet that Severus thinks of Hermione as belonging to him, though I more than understand her frustration with wondering where they are headed! =] Lovely as always. So thrilled to have you back, my dear.
Response from HogwartsClassof91 (Author of A Murder of Crows)
Aww ... Thank you so much! I hope to never again have such a gap between updates ... I really missed working on this story! Thanks again for your lovely review. I'm halfway through editing the next chapter and hope to submit it soon. :-)
*happy sigh* I was very, very happy to see that this had been updated this morning! This was a wonderful chapter. Like everyone else, I love the last line. But I also loved the verbal sparring between Draco and Severus! Who else would use Shakespearean insults?! Oh, and the 'I despise all students equally.' Wonderful chapter, can't wait for more!!
Response from HogwartsClassof91 (Author of A Murder of Crows)
LOL - I had great fun imagining Severus and Draco trying to out-quote each other. And it's always nice to see Severus honest about his loathing. :-)Thank you so very much for the lovely review and stars. I'm halfway through editing the next chapter and hope to have it posted soon.
I loved that last line. And you're not alone in hating this time of year. I don't know when the sun has been out for more than a moment the past few days. It's not that cold, but it is so damp and gray.
Response from HogwartsClassof91 (Author of A Murder of Crows)
Yes, exactly! Not cold here, either, but I'm so sick of it getting dark so early. I feel like I never have enough daylight to accomplish anything! Thanks so much for the lovely review and stars! So glad you liked that line ... I struggled with whether or not to keep it, honestly.
