I live in Virginia with my husband and 2 children. I make pottery, but, thanks to Harry Potter, I have rediscovered a passion for writing.

Sorry, but you don't actaully see it because she goes into hiding when it happens.

Ugh... I knew Ron was going to be that stupid.

Ron would never have made it into Ravenclaw.

Oh, no. I'm afraid that Ron is going to do something stupid at Monday's lunch hour. I wish Hermione would just move out for good.
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
She will eventually.

Oh, let Rita catch Ron with Lavender! It would be embarrassing for Hermione, but she would look like the innocent party in the drama.

You will find out soon enough that pure-blood extramarital affairs are commonplace, so I doubt it would make the paper.

Brilliant choice of email accounts for Snape! And at least Stan Shunpike got out of Azkaban and into a good job.
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
I don't think that Stan was on the top ten most wanted list. He had probably been Imperiod, or was such a low level pawn in the scheme of things that they didn't want to waste a cell on him for very long...Glad you like Snape's email address. Don't email him, please. It really does belong to somebody!

Poor Hermione. And stupid stupid Ron! What he did is no better than slipping a date rape drug!

Yes, I feel the same way. That's why it should be outlawed. Perhaps, since she's done all she can for house-elves and centaurs, she can take on a new crusade in the future.

You are writing a very absorbing story. The last chapter made me quite upset but I feel better now with Snape back in the story.

This is just appalling that Ron gets the kids b/c his blood is purer! I guess its my muggle background shining through!!! I hope to hell Hermione can prove incompetence quickly before Hugo has to suffer too much.

What is it with men that they become complete arseholes in a divorce? Not that I would ever wish a kid sick, but I almost hope that Hugo rises to the occasion.
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
Right now, Ron is getting some really bad advice from some other real "arseholes." You'll find out just who is advising him in the not too distant future. And Snape will not allow Hugo to suffer. He will do something about it, don't worry.

Wow, no such thing as alimony then?
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
Hermione may have been able to get alimony, but she makes plenty of money. She doesn't want his money. She only wants her children. This is why it is doubly tragic. She was acting selflessly and he was the opposite. Thanks for your comments,

Firstly thankyou for a well written chapter. It also was a truly horrible chapter as well. I could feel the contempt for Ron and the sorrow for Hermione come out and twist around my heart. When I read this story I reminded myself that we take the idea of 'no fault divorce' and the goal of joint custody for granted. While a vile concept I can see why you have written the Blood-custody clause in. It is in keeping with the ultra-conservative (smacks of Muggle Regency period)Wizarding society and would want to put the children with what it regards as the 'better' parent - It happened often enough in previous times within Western (Muggle) patriarchal societies. (Taken from the Free Dictionary) Women in 19th-century Britain faced numerous legal and social handicaps. Under English law, a married woman had no legal rights or existence separate from her husband. The jurist William Blackstone writing in his Commentaries on the Laws of England (1765-70) stated: ‘By marriage... the very being or legal existence of the woman is suspended.’ Married women could not own property, and all their income was the property of their husbands. Women did not even have any rights over their children.
The celebrated case of the writer Caroline Norton illustrates the problems faced by women in the 19th century. In 1836 Norton was falsely accused by her husband of having an adulterous affair with the prime minister Lord Melbourne. Under the existing law Norton's husband was able to take custody of their three children, as well as control of the substantial earnings from her writings. Norton used her political and legal connections, and campaigned with like-minded individuals to overturn the laws, resulting in the Infant Custody Act (1839) and the Matrimonial Causes Act (1857), which set up the Divorce Court and allowed limited grounds for divorce. The Married Women's Proerties Act of 1870 and 1882 gave married women basic legal rights over their property and earnings.
However, many social and economic inequalities remained. For instance, it was not a crime for a husband to beat his wife, or to rape her - as a wife was legally joined to the husband, she could not refuse any of his requests. Women were also barred from certain professions; for example, women were unable to qualify as doctors until 1865. Women were also disenfranchised throughout the period.
The 20th century saw the most fundamental advances in the cause of women's emancipation. One of the most important achievements was women's sufferage, which gave women a voice in Parliament. The campaigns of the suffragists and militant suffragettes, and the work of women behind the lines and on the home front during World War I, were rewarded by limited suffrage for women in 1919 and equal suffrage in 1928.1928 was only 80 years ago! Sorry if I have bored anyone whilst I channelled my inner Hermione - but I think the issue is an important one.On a personal note - I feel you have written the venom between the two so well, especially Ron - he is truly a first-class bastard, and blaming Hermione for his behaviour! Ironically proably the first-time he is first -class at anything...(Ouch!) And then you had 'Ickle Ronnikins' bringing in the Aurors to face Hermione (that was a great idea)... What a wimp! He knows she could out-hex him. Unfortunately I have been in a position where I foolishly stayed in a marriage long past it being functional (and putting up with infidelity) for my children. Why? there was the fear generated by my husband, who boasted he and his ex had the record for the most sitting days of the family court sue to the custody battle and said he 'knew the system and would make sure I got 'screwed over' and would never see my children again plus he had his family's financial resources at his disposal. This Ron is an eerie mirror of him.I am saddened to see that it looks like the effect of Ron's despicably selfish behaviour will be borne by the children. Unfortunately that can be too true in a divorce. While sad you have written it well. I fear for Snape in all of this. The way you have written Ron I think he will twist and sully anything he can to hurt Hermione.Thankyou for your bravery and penmanship.Cheers

WOW! I am from America, and although we had similar rights issues for women to get over, I don't think it was ever that bad for us. You gave me quite a history lesson here.I don't know if you are keeping up with our Presidential Race here, but there have been both gender and ethnic issues throughout this campaign. I wanted this story to show the unfairness of prejudice in any form. Barack Obama is half black and half white, and while most people look upon that as a good thing because he can see problems from many different persectives since he has lived his life both ways (as well as rich and poor, since his mother at one time was on food stamps after his father left them when he was only two), there are unfortunately still people out there who will not vote for him simply because of the color of his skin. So I looked at the wizarding world with the same disdain. Yes, the Voldemort Wars were supposed to bring an end to such prejudices, but just as in this country, the equal rights amendment was passed over 40 years ago, but there are still so many unspoken inequalities and prejucided attitudes that emerge in subtle ways. This election has brought them back out in the open, and people are talking about them again, and especially the need to rise above all of this backward thinking.Fictional situations, such as blood purity in the wizarding world, are a great way to illustrate the injustice of such attitudes. People must get up in arms about it and unite for change, or the status quo will continue. So my little story is about the social prejudices that plague society on so many levels, whether it is race, gender, religious or otherwise. Humans unfortunately find it all too easy to hate and alienate each other because of being different. I feel that the USA is a better place because of all the different kinds of people that live here. We have the most diverse society in the world. But sadly, some of us don't look at it that way. Thanks so much for your wonderful and educational review!

What an ugly twist, this pureblood stuff! Poor Hugo, though, he's the one that suffers most - and with the least hope of bettering so far.
I do hope, too, that her meeting with Snape is not going to act in her face.
Author's Response: This pureblood stuff is ugly, isn't it?
The meeting with Snape will add a bit of a twist. I can't say more without giving too much away.
Thanks for leaving a comment.
Time for Hermione to become a lawyer, too and "roll up the field from behind" as we say in Germany (i.e. convice his supporters one by one until he stands alone).

And I don't think the use of that spellbook will get him in trouble, considering the medieval opinion of the silent majority on the matter of gender equality and "all human beings are equal"...
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
Since the spells in the book are not illegal, Ron can't get into trouble for using them on her. Hermione leaves the courtroom stuff to Blaise, but she does become a champion of Muggle-born rights before the story is through. Thanks for your comments. I always enjoy reading them.

I am grateful for the update and the chapter was brilliantly written as usual. You also warned that the story will become darker before it got better, but I still have a problem. While I enjoy every hurt and pain thrown Ron's way, and I symphtize with Hermione, I have a problem with the way the plot goes due to the fact that the one getting hurt the most is Hugo. I know that in a divorce, the children quite often are the ones suffering from their parents idiotcy, but there is a difference between knowing that and enjoy reading about it. There is so much unjust in your story, with all the "pureblood" supority you portrait, it makes me question why there was a war against Voldemort at all, purebloods won anyway. All sacrifices made, all who died, just for naugth, it would have been better if one let Voldemort have his way and just banned all muggleborns from the wizardingworld as they in this story are deemed to be seccond class citizens anyway. This is not only the Weasleys beeing inbreed idiots, the magical world as a whole is portraited rather unattractive. I know I will want to read the end of this story, if for nothing else the hope that you will make things better for Hugo and Hermione, but it can only be a good ending if it was due because the rules about pureblood supiority are changed, not because lowclass-scumbag-idiot-Ron-Weasley found it in the "goodness of his heart" to not hurt his children. For now I think my blood preassure will be better off by not reading the next chapters, but I still have some faith in you making things better so I will come back towards the end of the story:-))

. I am sorry that you are so upset about my little story that you don't want to read it any more. I must admit that the story had drummed up more enthusiasm, and churned up more emotions than I ever dreamed it would. I guess that it doesn't upset me so much because I already know what is coming next, so I don't get upset about it as my readers do.I would like to assure you that Hugo will not have to suffer without his potion for too much longer. Snape will not allow it! He already loves the boy and he has never even met him!But may I suggest that instead of skipping chapters and ending up lost because you won't know what you missed, if you wait until I have posted through Chapter 11, you can read the two together. Chapter 10 is a cliffhanger and will leave your heart racing if you can't just keep on reading. I wouldn't want to be responsible for any medical mishaps! Chapter 11 ends on a much more settled and peaceful note that will be easier on your blood-pressure.But if you chose to stop until the entire Hugo issue is resolved that won't happen until Chapter 16, and there are many light hearted (even funny) things that happen in between.Whatever you decide, just remember that it is only a fictional story. No need to take it too personally.
Response from Sampdoria (Reviewer)
Oh I will read it, I won't be able not to. I should have waited a bit before reviewing, though I then probably would have forgotten to do so, and let the emotions settle a bit. No matter what, you have a great story here, your writing is excellent and you should most certainly take it as a compliment that you manage to stir the emotions of your readers!(Due to your warning, if I review chapter 10, please ignore me...:-)) That said, I still find your magical world somewhat unattractive, and certainly not a place for muggleborns. Arthur and his sons sounds like they belong among Voldemorts Death Eathers rather than the Order of Phoenix, Hermiones mudblood removes all her rigths and her children are lower class citizens due to her inferior blood. With Rons attitude, he must see his own children as of lesser value? I know it is fiction, but that don't remove my desire for justice.

Whow, what a great chapter . I can wait for next . I was in oppinion that the whole idea of pureblood predominance is decease whith Voldemort death . I see it has not , and whith Hermione role in the war , and if she will have help in Harry because he is half mugle and half pure , and I think he is affter all a honorable enough to see the right thing done.It seems to me like great betrayal of all sacrifice , war and all . I really think that Ron will soon learn what it means to try on separate child from his mother and vice versa. I would realy love to see him separated and in the opposite and lousing side in the entiare situation.

I equate the situation Hermione finds herself with the racial discrimination of non-whites in the United States. The Equal Rights Amendment was passed over 40 years ago. Many people fought hard, some lost their lives, and the laws were changed, but the underlying truth still remains that there is still some subtle discrimination in this country. It is sad, but it is true. The wizarding world has only had 20 years to change. The child custody battles only scratch the surface. As my story progresses, you will see other instances of discrimination against Muggle-borns. People's attitudes don't simply change over night. And since wizards live longer than humans, the generations take longer to die off, so the attitudes change even more slowly. Thanks for the review. Harry will be a big help to Hermione, as will Severus. Things will work out eventually.

For five galleons and a bottle of fire whiskey, she could get someone to hex him into oblivion or better yet, get someone to imperio lav-lav into dropping poison into his after work drink, then obliviate the bitch. ahem, guess you shouldn't come between a mother and her children. you plays, you pays.
