I live in Virginia with my husband and 2 children. I make pottery, but, thanks to Harry Potter, I have rediscovered a passion for writing.

What a wonderful update! I loved it! Especially his snarky comments upon reading Skeeter's article-- I was laughing out loud. And I can't wait for next chapter. *sighs* This is such an enjoyable story. ~kizzy

I am really interested in where you are going with this. DH compliant and still SS/HG. Who woulda thunk it??
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
I think JKR made Snape's death a bit ambiguous on purpose. She didn't even give him a portrait, so that left everyone's imagination wide open for the possibilities. And I never understood the RW/HG pairing. They just don't fit together as far as I'm concerned. Thanks so much for reading and reviewing.

What a great story. Now you need to have Ron do something truly stupid so we can get him out of the story, preferably in a way that doesn't cause Hermione to lose Ginny and Harry's friendship.

. Ron will always be part of this story, but his role will be much more in the background as time goes on. And Harry and Ginny will always be friends with them both, although it will be hard on Harry to be stuck in the middle sometimes.I never understood how JKR could make Ron so brilliant at chess and so clueless about everything else.

Snape is cute all grumpy and romantic. His email address is a real hoot.
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
His crusty exterior is still the first thing people see, but I have always felt that he has a soft side. Thanks for reading and reviewing.

Though I normally don't like reading stories in which ron and hermione are married (because the idea squicks me beyond belief!), I am enjoying this. I love the sshg interactions so far. Love that he has email. Love that he bought that expensive perfume. And that he saved all her letters. You have done an excellent job of describing the complete and utter devotion Snape can feel for another person without being overly explicit or dramatic. Excellent job! Looking forward to more!

This story is progressing better and better. I am so glad to see even written communication from Hermione appears to be drawing Severus out of his shell
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
Snape didn't realise how much he missed Hermione's letters until she stopped sending them. That's why he kept them all and would pull them out on special occasions. And since there is no one else in his life to occupy his thoughts, of course he is bound to get excited about her renewed attention. My version of Snape may be a bit softer than others, but I like to think that he would mellow with age, not become even more bitter. I may be wrong, but that's just my opinion. Thanks so much,

Nice start and room to expand - he he! Just a point about the phrase 'on the nose'. I also have known it as a saying similar to 'on the dot' or at that precise time/moment place etc (which I think you intended) EXCEPT where food is concerned - then it usually means that the food has spoiled/'gone off''/ has a pungent odour.I am looking forward to more,Reets

. Wow! Thanks for the heads up about "on the nose." I have never heard of that phrase being used to describe food gone bad. I will have to change that. Are you in the UK or Europe somewhere? I am in the US, and I must admit that I don't have anyone Brit-picking this story, so any time you see me make a mistake like that, please feel free to correct me.Thanks so much for reading and taking the time to review.

No problem. I'm actually from Australia but raised on a steady diet of British TV shows and have a best friend who is English, but has been out here awhile. It is great to see American's understand sarcasm/black humour - we tend to think that they can't.The old Empire died a bit later over here than the US - no wait, We still have a Queen- Elizabeth the second -Queen of Australia is British, with German heritage and married to 'Phil the Greek' (!) Odd about being the second because Australia was not on Europe's map when the First Elizabeth was on the throne... I'm happy to let you know of any thing that I think is amiss.Cheers

Wow, that was really something. Snape is a romantic.
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
His reasons for purchasing the Secret Recipe are selfish, really. He enjoys the way it smells on the letters that she sends him. The perfume that Ron gave her takes away half the fun of receiving a letter from her. So he bought it for himself as much as he did for her.But he is Severus Snape, after all. And to pine and risk one's life for years over an unrequited love lost is romantic to the extreme. He has always been a romantic in my mind. But until now, he has not had anyone to share his feelings. Thanks so much for reading and reviewing, artemis. I really appreciate you taking the time.

A great chapter, there is so much happening, and so much info between the lines, too! Poor Winky was in no position to act in any way. She has give her own opinion at least once before: she told Harry that freeing Dobby was maybe not for the best. So I'm sure she's up to the task with Severus. Did Harry get Severus' motivation right? Hermione could organise a meeting of Muggle-borns who run an enterprise! Surely some "safe" shops, like WWW would allow ads in their window?I wonder what Ron is up to with an info that Harry should truly NOT have revealed. I don't trust him, although at the time when it started he was too young--and had much more relevant things to do. Who has had spare time then? Another Muggleborn? Percy and the like? > “when Winky was young and beautiful.”errr, hm...have we ever seen a beautiful house-elf? Have we possibly never seen a young one then? Will Hugo arrive with some computer game on his next visit?Well, whatever you have in mind, please keep writing; I love the story!!
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
"...when Winky was young and beautiful." I have never seen a beautiful house-elf, young or otherwise. But beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I'm sure she was beautiful to other house-elves. Jonathan Crouch only saw an easy target. Rape is about dominance and violence, not love and beauty. As for organizing Muggle-born shop-keepers, it's the ones being blackmailed that need the help. They would never attend such a meeting because it would blow their cover. Many of your other questions will be answered in the next couple of chapters. But the blackmailer will remain a mystery for a while longer. Sorry.Glad you are enjoying my story. Thanks for reading and reviewing. :)
Response from Bettina (Reviewer)
I only noticed that we have no idea of what the elves consider beautiful. Whatever it is, is NOT related to J Crouch's motives. Hermione could ask these shopkeepers to send her an e-mail. One can even open new accounts for the purpose. But there are undoubtedly other good approaches. Am curious to see them!
“Because he had perceived that she had hurt his feelings.” At last the light shines for Snape. I found his conversation with Winky to be heart breaking. That poor little elf.
I see forgiveness in the future for both Hermione and Snape. How long till the next chapter? I want to read the note with the flowers!
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
I just sent the next chapter to my beta. After she sends it back, I will put it in the queue, but it must also go throught a rigorous proofing process by the staff here at the Petulant Poetess. So I'm guessing it will be ready for your to read in about a week to ten days, if all goes well.Sorry it can't happen sooner. I know what it is like to be left hanging. Thanks for sticking with me, in spite of the agonizing cliff-hangers.

Oh dear, misunderstandings galore... great chapter!
Author's Response: The misunderstandings are only beginning.
Thanks for reading and leaving a note.

What an intense, dense and lovely chapter! I'm so glad that they came to understand each other, and the background story for Winky is quite fitting, too, even though it's gruesome to think about it. The blackmail story is well done, too.
Author's Response: Human history is filled with gruesome tales of abuse. I imagine that the wizarding world would be as well.
Thanks, Alcina, for your support.
Ah chocolate, the perfect way to say I was an idiot. Works great for both genders. I really am intrigued by who the blackmailer is, particularly if it isn't Rita Skeeter.
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
Chocolate always works with me :)The blackmailer will remain a mystery for a few more chapters. Hang in there. We have a long way to go.
Ah, the plot thickens... who is the blackmailer? Is Rita Skeeter just an amazingly good actress and fooling all those people she wrote the articles for? I certainly can't imagine her apologizing to anybody for writing a creepy article about them! She might be a victim as well, but if so I couldn't see her just taking it lying down; she'd write an inflammatory article about them as a preemptive stirke... hmm. Must mull this over further. And who are the flowers from? The first conclusion to jump to is Snape, but maybe not! He's been taking Winky's advice and keeping his distance, so why run the risk of ruining things and possibly looking pushy? My money's on Ron. Or possibly Viktor. Submit next chapter soon so I can find out!
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
The next chapter is on the way. The flower mystery will be solved at that time, but the blackmailer will not be revealed for quite a while. Sorry. Thanks again, indogo_rose, for reading and reviewing.
I lost track of this story for a while! Bad me... Anyway, I'm glad to see that Ron and Hermione have been able to work things out so amicably. I have always liked Ron as a character, but just didn't think that he and Hermione were the best match romantically. But hey, they're not my books, so what do I know...? ANYway... great chapter, glad Ron's come to his senses, looking forward to karmic retribution from Lavender, and can't wait to see where Viktor Krum is going to fit into all this. Am immediately going to the next chapter!
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)

i so much want the culprit to be rita, too. what a wonderful update. bless winky. i'm glad she's in a better place with a better person. thanks so much
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
Winky is the best kept secret in the wizarding world. :) I love Winky, as you can probably tell. and what better person to protect her than Severus.
I wonder if there is a connection between the blackmailer and the author of that book? It would be wonderful to turn the tables on him/her.
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
Now that's a plot bunnie that I haven't heard yet. Neat idea!
