I live in Virginia with my husband and 2 children. I make pottery, but, thanks to Harry Potter, I have rediscovered a passion for writing.

Could it be - since the books aren't sold charmed yet - that Lavender has got one and uses it on Ron? I'm afraid that's the only excuse (except the Imperius) that I could find acceptable for his behaviour.
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
Ron is acting like many hormonal beings, he wants some action and Lav is a willing participant. It has nothing to do with spells. But he will pay for his folley, don't worry.Happy Hollidays!
Hello, ClayPotter! You made my day - a new chapter of Secret Recipe I really enjoy this story and the insights of the pureblood way of marital life which you provide in this chapter were disgusting but nonetheless very interesting.I'm looking forward for the next update and hope, it'll come soon...

Hi
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
. So glad you are enjoying my little yarn... The purebloods aren't quite as bad as some patriarchal societies from history, but they are not the nicest either. Thanks for taking time to leave a message.Happy Holidays!
And help he will, hopefully in more ways than one!

What an intriguing way to bring to light one of the worst symptoms of a bad marriage. So frequently we speak of how an abusive marriage can harm the two who are married and we forget about the children involved. When I taught school it got to where I could tell with about a 90% accuracy which children came from a troubled background simply by their behavior and yes health.I look forward to seeing how you develop the characterization in the story and how you will offer up Ron's excuses, as I am sure he will have them.I hope Snape will rescue more than just Hugo.

Hello,
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
, and thanks so much for your comments. It means a lot to me when someone with such experience lets me know that I'm on the right track. The images we were allowed to see of Snape at home with his parents made it plain that he had lived through such nightmares as a child, so he would immediately spot Hugo's symptoms for what they were. He also can relate to Hugo's suffering, and so has a keen desire to help him.Your hopes willeventually be fulfilled, but it takes a while before anyone gets rescued.

Glad you are enjoying it. Thanks for the stars. :)
Hi there,I am really enjoying this story and really hope you continue it.I think you've done a really good job of bringing in the more complex issues, including that custody always goes to the pureblooded family because that seems very accurate and in-line with what we know about the wizarding community. I think you've really nailed Hermione as a character, and I think you're doing a great job of getting inside her head and exploring her.I think Snape still remains a bit of a challenge for you, but that's not surprising, him being the most complex and probably the most unexplored character in the books. I think you do his speech and his speech patterns very well, my problem lies mostly in his motivations and vulnerability, for me. I just have trouble accepting that Snape has mellowed so much and so quickly as to feel so much for Hermione and be so willing to accept it. But that's just my observation. Other than that, I think this is a really great story and I am really involved in it. Liz.
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
Hi Liz,Thanks so much for your lengthy and thoughtful review. I guess that I can relate better to Hermione, so I get inside her head much better than I do Snape's. Like her, I try to see the good in people and tend to be a bit naive and forgiving. But I am also a "romantic idiot" like your screen name (LOL). So the Snape in my story has had almost 20 years to mellow and come to terms with his bitterness. I like to think that his isolation from all but the kind and generous Winky would have played a hand in that. Plus his Muggle neighbors accepting him for who he is because they have no knowledge of his past might also have helped him to see the better side of human nature. But, like I said, I have always tried to see the good in people. If you don't like my interpretation of Snape, you might want to read "The Godfather." That Snape is, IMO, much more the Snape that JKR would have imagined if she had let him somehow survive the Nagini attack. I hope you continue to read my story as well, but I wouldn't blame you if you end up liking hers more than mine. There are so many really good writers on this site. The fact that anyone bothers to read my stories at all flatters me greatly.
That opens up a whole can of worms. What is Ron up to?
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
You will find out by the end of the next chapter! It is with my Beta right now. Hopefully soon.
Harry may not "get" Snape, but at least he respects him, despite the house prejudices. Cool --Hermione is putting that beautiful mind of hers to good use--punkin' that b!tch Rita. Good practice for the ugly confrontation with Ronniekins to come.
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
Well, ylang, this is your last entry. I hope you didn't stop reading. I didn't reply right away because I had other RL issues to deal with.Hope I didn't disappoint you after this chapter somehow. If I did something wrong, I would really like some constructive criticism. Or hopefully, you are simply like me, too busy to read right now.
If I were Hermione, I would've hexed the Boy Weasel (perhaps, permanently) into a diaper-wearing toddler cos that's his maturity level. Shameful! And behaving so crassly in Hermione's own house! Talk about Class vs. Crass! Comparing the two men is like comparing, say, Peter Jennings to Jerry Springer. My tolerance for Weasel is slight at best, and when he's not on his best behavior (which isn't much), he's totally useless in my eyes. Good thing Ginny (and Harry) are still close friends. Because the behavior of the senior Weasleys is quite telling--how they really see their daughter-in-law when the kid gloves are off.
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
Ron is being an arse as usual. I never had much use for Ron either, so I made him even more useless in this story.Glad you like it.
Nice to see Hermione plotting with Potter for revenge on the lovely Rita, but that's really nothing compared to the in-laws' "support" and the way they hound Hermione compared to Fleur. Who wouldn't feel used and hurt after knowing that one's husband was using a book! to ensure marital concord. the Ronniewobbles needs to be hung upside down by his tighty-whities, in my NOT so humble op. If I were Hermione I'd reuse that canary spell too.
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
Rita is so much fun! I had to work her in somehow. She will continue to pop up from time to time. Thanks for all of your wonderful comments.
the slow, unhurried, leisurely pace of this story is appealingly old-fashioned in an Austen way. I guess it's the emailing and the letter-writing that they do. But Snape's fascination with Hermione's scent gives it some needed spice and sensuality, keeping the story from being too stuffy. Plus the fact that they both are dissatisfied with their lives and were depressed until they made the conscious choice to reach out to the other.
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
I must shamefully admit that I have never read Jane Austin. But the adaptaion of her story "Sense and Sensibility" into a movie is one of my favorite. I must admit that it holds some influence over this story. They were almost all so noble (and uptight) in that movie. It was comical how uncomfortable they became in some situations.
surprised that Snape bought the perfume instead of creating something custom-made for Miss Granger. Well, since her (unread) correspondence seems to have been the only bright spot in an otherwise dreary life, the princely (pun intended) gift is more than appropriate. Yay! And Hermione has her parents' house for sanctuary. Things are def looking up.
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
I feel that if Snape could not have found the exact same perfume for sale, he would have attempted to produce his own. But time was of the essence, so he bought it instead.
Well laid backgrounding; I love the fact that Snape is happily computing while Hermione is still rather clueless in that regard (contrary to her know-it-all rep). Makes sense that Hermione would create counter-curses to that book of Ron's instead of throwing it into the fire. Hugo doesn't sound like his father at all. Wouldn't be such a shame if George was the real father, poor kid. She sure settled for less in her 'marriage' and her career. Great stuff!
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
The book takes much of the blame for her predicament. But now that she knows that, she will not remain trapped for much longer. Thanks for reading and reviewing.
Not out of sight or mind. He may not open Mrs. Weasley's correspondence, but he didn't destroy it either! This sounds like a very promising start for a HG/SS story that fits within post-DH canon. I am so glad that Snape has Winky to do his housekeeping. And it is despicable that the Ministry made an example of him when the likes of Fudge got off scot-free. As Rodney Dangerfield used to say, "No respect."
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
Hi ylang, and welcome to my version of the Post DH story.Glad you like it enough to keep on reading.
Loving this story! But really hating Ron! Looking forward to the next.
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
Glad you like the story. We will get to the bottom of Ron's inexcusable behavior soon, I promise. Thanks for leaving a note.
This is a lovely story, and I'm enjoying it very much. I like your Severus; he's mellowed, but he's still a snarky mess. I'm a little irked, if only at myself. I usually don;t read WIP's, because waiting for updates drives me mad. I completely missed that this is unfinished. Any chance of an update soon-ish?
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
Hi
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
. So glad you have been enjoying my little story. I have every intension of finishing it, but I can't predict when the next update will be. I have been so busy with real life that there has been not time to write for quite a while. But I WILL finish this story. I know what will happen, I just have to get it from my head into the computer. I know how you feel about WIPs. I have been a fan of many a wonderful story that I am still waiting to read the end of. Some for years. Please have patience with me. I'll get there.
In a lot of ways I agree with you about society in general. I'm a 46 year old native american. Even my parents have to go to federal court before they sell family land to someone of lesser blood. While it's a safeguard, I could see the wizzarding world doing something of the same sort. *Hmm, that sounded like the start of a story didn't it.* Anyway, at least our society has changed A LOT in forty years, hopefully the magical world will too. Great chapter, look forward to the next. Also, *exclaims incredulously*, RON moves in higher social circles? Whoda thunk it?
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
You'll find out next chapter just how funny your statement about Ron is!Wow! Federa Court to see their own property! Is it on a reservation? Or can those pieces of land only be passed to pure blood Native Americans?I have Native American blood in me, but it is very diluted. I think the tribe was located in Northern Mississippi over 100 years ago, but I am not sure of the name. My husband and I are both "mutts" as Barack Obama once described himself. My husband has blood from Europe, Africa, Central America and India running through his veins. Mine is European and Native American. Our children are pretty generic in blood, but very exotic looking. Thanks so much for the insightful review.
Response from FlittterKat (Reviewer)
You're welcome. About my parent's land, most of Oklahoma was reservation land at one time or another, their family land is in trust. They can sell it, (or live on it, lease it out, etc) but to sell it to someone who holds less blood quantum than she/he does has to be approved through fed court. If it's everyday property (not in trust), they can handle it like everyone does.
wow! that makes sense. ron is a total prat but he was never a cruel prat. i can't wait to find out what's what. great update. thanks so much

Hi
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
. Thanks for chiming in.Much will be revealed in the next chapter. I tried to make it humorous. These last few have been downright depressing. I didn't start out to write such a serious story, but it just developed with a mind of its own.
Terrible! (But in a really good way!!) I can't believe the screws keep tightening on Hermione. And Ron is being unbelieveable. While part of me wants there to be a logical explaination for Ron's "Asshole-itis", don't let him off the hook too easy. For making Hermione suffer so, he deserves more than just to have a spell lifted off him, and apologize. He needs to suffer some, too! (Yes, I probably took part in the Spanish Inquisition in a past life.) =] He's sooo mean. Great job of writing someone who's usually so well liked as a complete and total bastard. Also, I love Severus. *sigh* He's amazing...
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
Sev is amazing, isn't he? ;)Ron will get his, but perhaps not in the way that you think. I am not a vengeful person. I believe that what goes around comes around, and I have written Hermione to be a bit like me. She won't need to exact revenge on him because someone else will do that for her, and she won't even know what has happened. Thanks for taking the time to comment.
I do agree with the others. Ron is too angry, so out of character for himself. What does he want so badly that he is willing to make his children and mother so upset?
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
Peer pressure is hard to resist, even for a middle aged man... You will find out what's going on in the next chapter. Thanks for taking the time to comment.
Why is Severus always right? Hmm.. Look forward to more.x
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
He's not always right, but certainly most of the time. Thanks for reading and commenting.
Wow! You've built a cruel and unfair world here that rewards random blood status rather than intelligence and character. I'm sure Rowling would love it!!Good story but extremely frustrating.
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
Sorry you find it frustrating. I am a child of the sixties and in the USA at least, there is still quite a bit of prejudice with regards to skin color. Barack Obama has helped to bridge the gap, but we still have a ways to go. Every society still has some form of prejudice to overcome. So the wizarding world that I have created is not unlike our own. Thanks for reading and reviewing.
This is one of the instances where I would love to write: "no further comment needed". The chapter says it all - thank you!
Response from ClayPotter (Author of Secret Recipe)
Ah, yes. As I have said all along, Ron has a reason for acting this way... Now we finally get to find out. :)Thanks so much for reading and reviewing.
